Man Utd ramp up security at training ground after fans break in to protest against Glazers… and even Ole gets stopped

MANCHESTER UNITED have beefed up their security at Carrington after fans broke into the training complex yesterday – and even boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had to prove who he was.As the players arrived for drills today, two security guards greeted them at the entrance.

Even United gaffer Solskjaer was stopped by two burly high-vis-wearing men.
He appeared to be asked to remove his sunglasses to prove he really was the Red Devils leader.
Around 20 supporters stormed Carrington on Thursday to voice their anger at the club’s owners and their attempt to join the breakaway European Super League.
The group made it on to the first-team pitch and refused to leave until manager Solskjaer came and spoke to them.
Technical director Darren Fletcher gave the thumbs-up as he was allowed to drive on in a day after the disturbance, while club captain Harry Maguire looked in a pensive mood behind the wheel.
The supporters who breached the security to get into the AON training complex on Thursday were part of the Manchester Education Committee – the same group that confronted Wayne Rooney in 2010 and targeted Ed Woodward’s home in January last year.
Police were called but stood off when boss Solskjaer – supported by Michael Carrick, Darren Fletcher and Nemanja Matic – met with the fans.
Asked how he could trust United co-chairman Joel Glazer again after his leading role in the ESL plans, Solskjaer insisted ‘Joel loves this club’.
The claim was met with derision with a number of protestors firing back saying ‘he doesn’t love this club he loves the money’.

Pictures of the protest were posted on United fanzine Red Issue which wrote: “Utd fans protesting against the Glazers have blocked both entrances to Carrington.”
The men bypassed security and made their way to the first team training pitch where they unveiled two banners which read ‘Glazers out’ aimed at club owners the Glazer family.
A second read: “51 % MUFC 20” which refers to the German-style ownership of clubs which gives fans a stake in their club.
The protest came just 24 hours after United’s executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward announced he was leaving his position at the end of the season.

And on Wednesday, United co-chairman Joel Glazer apologised to fans for United’s part as a founding member of the attempted breakaway league, which was universally hated by fans from all clubs.
He wrote: You made very clear your opposition to the European Super League, and we have listened. We got it wrong, and we want to show that we can put things right.
“Although the wounds are raw and I understand that it will take time for the scars to heal, I am personally committed to rebuilding trust with our fans and learning from the message you delivered with such conviction.”
The Mirror is reporting that the anti-Glazer movement plot to make another stand a week on Sunday when United host fellow ESL rebels Liverpool at Old Trafford.
Thousands of fans will march from Manchester city centre to the stadium and make their voices heard beside the statues of Sir Matt Busby, Sir Bobby Charlton, Denis Law and George Best.
The report adds a joint-protest alongside Liverpool supporters – usually fierce rivals – has been canned now that both teams announced their withdrawal from the ESL.

Man Utd fans have let club down just like Glazers by storming training ground… there are better ways to force a change

THERE is a way to protest and make feelings known and this isn’t it.The Glazer family let Manchester United down in the week, but so have the fans who stormed the training ground and broke onto private property.

The real anger should be aimed at the Glazers, says Tom McDermottCredit: PA
What did they think was going to happen? Joel Glazer to appear and hand over the keys?
It wasn’t Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and the players’ decision to join the European Super League, it was the board led by Joel Glazer.
So, what can we do? Have a demonstration that doesn’t break the law outside of Old Trafford. What about starting a group to organise a takeover?
Anything but disrupt the place where players are preparing for an important game against Leeds United.
The European Super League has gone.
There was never a right time to do this but if there was, it would have been Sunday or Monday when the news broke.

Man Utd in Erling Haaland transfer blow as Dortmund chief Zorc claims he will STAY at club even without Champions League

MANCHESTER UNITED’S hopes of signing Erling Haaland this summer have been hit after Borussia Dortmund’s sporting director Michael Zorc insisted their star man will stay.Just hours after United’s humiliating European Super League about-turn, they have been handed another hammer blow.

Dortmund chief Michael Zorc says that the 20-year-old striker won’t be moving anywhere – even if the Germans miss out on Champions League qualification.
Speaking to Sky Germany, Zorc said: “We made a clear statement about the Haaland cause.
“The decision will not be made without Borussia Dortmund. No matter where we end up, Erling will continue to play for us.”
The Norwegian international has been in stunning form this season, scoring 35 goals in 37 games in all competitions for Dortmund.
His agent, the controversial Mino Raiola, even embarked on a world tour to meet prospective clubs interested in the free-scoring sensation.
Real Madrid and Barcelona were visited, with the likes of Manchester United and Liverpool also targeted.
But the latest statement from Zorc appears to confirm the striker is going nowhere.
And whether United would be able to pay in excess of £100million for Haaland is another thing.
The Red Devils, along with Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City, Arsenal and Tottenham, purchased around £8m in equity stakes in the European Super League before its sensational collapse.

The ‘Big Six’ are now unlikely to be able to reclaim the £8m up-front payment AND are set to face monster fines.
It’s believed the English clubs will be hit in the pocket rather than be punished via points deductions or exclusion.
On top of that, Man Utd were just one club to see their share price plummet amid the controversy.

BRANDON WILLIAMS bid a hasty retreat after accidentally revelling in the European Super League’s end with a post of Liverpool celebrations.Fans were quick to point out that the Manchester United defender had focused his thanks on his club’s bitter rivals.

An Instagram post of Liverpool’s 2005 Champions League bus parade went online to his one million followers on Tuesday night.
It was captioned: “To you all 👏🏼 Everyone is equal⚽️.”
It did not take long for 20-year-old Williams to swap out the picture for one of his own fans.
And an image of United fans cheering on the streets was put up with a similar caption, which now emphasised that ‘we are ALL equal’.
An Instagram follower of Williams’ wrote: “That’s the right pic👏❤️.”
One Reds fan added: “Brandon Williams sharing Liverpool’s parade will never not be funny.”

While a United supporter commented: “How’s Brandon Williams accidentally gone and posted the Liverpool bus for his IG post.”

Furious fans flock to Man Utd, Chelsea and Prem Big Six stadiums for second day of protests over European Super League

On Tuesday, a number of supporters turned up on their club’s doorstep to demand they backtrack from the controversial plot.
Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea, Tottenham, Arsenal and Liverpool have signed up to the ESL alongside three Spanish and three Italian teams.
The proposals will take clubs out of the Champions League and into a new closed-shop setup, where teams qualify regardless of their performance.
Uefa, Fifa, the UK Government and the Premier League are among the bodies to threaten the plotters with significant punishment, including throwing them out of this year’s competitions.
While European football’s governing body and 14 other top-flight English clubs met on Tuesday, protests continued.
Outside Liverpool’s home of Anfield, banners reading ‘FSG OUT’ and ‘SUPER GREED’ were hung up to condemn the club’s owners.

The Reds’ home will no longer feature fan banners across the empty seats after supporters’ groups demanded they be removed.
Blues fans are set to appear en masse outside their home to demonstrate before Tuesday’s clash with Brighton, echoing Monday’s display before Leeds’ draw with Liverpool.
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, supporters have been largely unable to make their feelings known in person with games played behind closed doors.

At Old Trafford, Manchester United fans put up a banner stating: “We adored you and you sold our souls. RIP MUFC 1878-2021.”
One placard attached to the gates at Manchester City’s Etihad Stadium simply read ‘Shame on you’ alongside two club scarves.
The protests were not limited to England with a message from Barcelona fans posted onto the Camp Nou.
Their statement read: “FCB is our life, not your toy. Super League, NO.”

Man Utd verdict: Quality of Pogba and Rashford to much for Burnley – but Red Devils too happy to sleepwalk through games

MANCHESTER UNITED can count themselves lucky at finally finding a way to put Burnley away at home.It took a massive deflection to prevent Sean Dyche’s team making it five matches in a row without losing at Old Trafford.

Mason Greenwood will be credited with United’s first two goals, but his second effort probably wouldn’t have troubled Bailey Peacock-Farrell if it hadn’t taken a wicked bounce off the inside of Jack Cork’s leg.
The third goal from Edinson Cavani put an undeserved gloss on the result, with Burnley hopelessly exposed after throwing everyone forward in search of an equaliser.
But if United are to put any pressure on City – who are now ‘only’ eight points ahead with six games to go – they will probably have to win ugly from time to time.
It would also help if they were not guilty of sleep-walking through the first-half so often.
They were guilty of it again here, with United offering precious little threat early on, despite the fact that Marcus Rashford and Paul Pogba both seemed to be capable of causing the Clarets plenty of problems.
Maybe Ole Gunnar Solskjaer should deliver the half-time rollickings that seem to pay dividends so often before kick off instead!

United were handed a reminder of the threat Burnley pose after just 15 seconds, with Chris Wood heading into the empty net with Dean Henderson stranded in no man’s land.
VAR’s decision that Wood was fractionally offside prompted a huge sigh of relief. If that ‘goal’ had stood, there could easily have been a different outcome.
But Greenwood’s coolness in front of goal, and his uncanny ability to buy room by cutting in from the right before shifting the ball onto that deadly left foot, are potent weapons.
Maybe, just maybe, there is a sting to come in the title battle after all.

Man Utd 3 Burnley 1: Greenwood brace rescues Red Devils and sends Solskjaer’s men eight points behind City in title race

MASON GREENWOOD struck twice in the second-half to keep Manchester United’s faint title hopes flickering. The Red Devils looked set to drop points at home against Burnley for a fifth straight season when James Tarkowski headed them level early in the second-half.

But just six minutes from time Greenwood collected a pass from Paul Pogba and his shot was deflected off Jack Cork before beating Bailey Peacock-Farrell.
This win cuts City’s lead at the top to eight points with six games apiece remaining – and while it remains possible United are clearly not for chucking in the towel.
As seems to be the case most weeks, the Red Devils began slowly.
After just ten seconds, Chris Wood beat Dean Henderson to a cross from the right by Matt Lowton and his header dropped into the unguarded net.
Fortunately for the England hopeful, his blushes were spared by the linesman’s flag and VAR showed the Kiwi was narrowly off.
United had their chances too with Paul Pogba heading wide and Bruno Fernandes just off target with a curling shot.
But as has been the case too often this season, United were lacklustre in the first-half.
And for a Burnley side who were unbeaten in their last four visits to Old trafford, there was little to worry about.

At the break Solskjaer threw on Edinson Cavani to replace an ineffective Fred and straight away things started to happen.
Rashford left Lowton floundering with a cheeky nutmeg on the left and then squared a ball into the box.
Fernandes cleverly dummied it and there was Greenwood arriving at the back-post to score his third goal in three league matches.
It was a brilliant goal from the home side but their lead lasted only two minutes – and the equaliser was as straightforward as they come.
Ashley Westwood swung over a corner from the left and James Tarkowski got ahead of Harry Maguire to nod home his first goal of the season.

That was the 1000th goal conceded by United since the start of the Premier League in 1992 – making them the 11th club to do so.
Both sides had chances to win it from there but Burnley – whose relegation fight had been boosted by Arsenal’s late equaliser against Fulham – were determined to hang on.
But United got the bit of luck they needed with Cork’s deflection – meaning City cannot start popping the champagne corks just yet.
There was even time for a third goal which slightly flattered United – Cavani tapping in a low cross from fellow sub Donny van de Beek.
