Man Utd outcast Sergio Romero back on Everton’s transfer wishlist but Ancelotti faces competition from Juventus

EVERTON are reportedly ready to reignite their interest in Sergio Romero. The goalkeeper, 34, is set to leave Manchester United as a free agent when his contract expires next month.
Sergio Romero is interesting Everton and JuventusCredit: The Sun
Interest has arrived from Goodison Park and Juventus, according to the Mail.
Both clubs see Romero as an ideal back-up to their first-choice shot-stoppers.
The Old Lady are about to bid farewell to Gianluigi Buffon and will need competition for Wojciech Szczesny.
Likewise, Everton reserve keeper Robin Olsen is set for a new challenge once his loan from Roma expires.
United are not due to offer Romero a new contract despite Lee Grant and potentially one of David De Gea or Dean Henderson leaving this summer.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is reportedly ready to choose between his goalkeeper options and cash in on whoever will be short of game time.

Aston Villa’s Tom Heaton has been named as the most likely candidate to step in as the new Old Trafford back-up.
Romero’s stay in Manchester has recently been marred by disputes over his lack of opportunities.
The Argentine and wife Eliana were left fuming by Solskjaer’s decision to drop him after the August Europa League win over Copenhagen.
United’s refusal to sanction a move to Everton earlier in the season is also said to have angered the player.

He told reporters: “Both of them have contracts until the summer and they’re not going to be extended.

Bild claim Coman, 24, earns £200k a week before tax but ‘would like to have it in net’.
United have apparently ‘indicated’ to the Frenchman they are willing to meet his demands – and make him their joint fifth top earner.
But there is no guarantee of a quick transfer as Bayern are in no rush to make a decision on his future.
And the Bundesliga champions will be able to demand a hefty fee with Transfermarkt valuing him at £58.5million.
United are in the market for a new winger with Jadon Sancho and Cristiano Ronaldo both top targets.
Coman has long been linked and could be an alternative.
The former Juventus star scored the winner in Bayern’s 1-0 Champions League final win over Paris Saint-Germain in 2020.
He also boasts an incredible record of winning a league title in EVERY season he has played since breaking into PSG’s 2013 team.

As well as a winger, a sensational move for wantaway Tottenham striker Harry Kane is on the cards.
Solskjaer said: “I hope we are going to strengthen with two or three players, we definitely need to challenge higher up in the table and we’re still too far behind to think it will just come by itself.
“We’re not where we aim to be, we’ve got ambitions to move one place further up.”

Harry Kane ‘could cost £120m but Man Utd may tempt Tottenham with Anthony Martial or Jesse Lingard swap transfer’

A PLAYER-PLUS-CASH deal could be Manchester United’s only way of signing Harry Kane, according to reports. The Tottenham star, 27, has told the club that he wants a summer move to finally bag some major silverware.

Manchester City and Chelsea have been linked with a bid, along with United.
The Athletic report on enquiries for the striker landing from both Manchester clubs as they gauge the likelihood of a deal.
SunSport revealed this week that the neighbours are willing to put an £80million, five-year contract on the table if a bid is accepted.
Tottenham are said to have not completely dismissed selling Kane with a fee of £120million thought to be enough to secure his services.
Such a figure is reportedly out of United’s reach, leading the club to consider a part-exchange deal involving their reserve forwards.
Jesse Lingard and Anthony Martial are named as two potential players who could be used to lower the fee.

West Ham loanee Lingard has excelled at London Stadium to relaunch his career.
A crucial summer for the 28-year-old could see him return to Manchester or sold on for a big profit.
Meanwhile, Martial has rounded off a disappointing season by missing the run-in due to injury.
And Tottenham are said to be big fans of the Frenchman, who as a direct replacement for Kane could cut a bigger slice into the deal than Lingard.

The Red Devils are faced with a tough decision over who to prioritise when the transfer market opens.
Cristiano Ronaldo could be available if Juventus fail to qualify for the Champions League with United reportedly monitoring the situation.

Luke Shaw defends Man Utd fan who threw green and gold scarf towards him during Fulham draw and vows to fight ban

LUKE SHAW has told a Manchester United fan who threw a green and gold scarf on the Old Trafford pitch that he will fight to quash any stadium ban.As the defender set up to take a corner in Manchester United’s draw with Fulham on Tuesday, the protest symbol landed in front of him.

Shaw was described by onlookers as chuckling at the gesture, which was aimed as a protest against the club’s Glazer family owners.
But the supporter who claims to have thrown the scarf, Shaun Logan, tweeted that he is facing a three-year stadium ban.
After the game, Shaw, 25, insisted that he ‘understood’ the protest ‘completely’ and will attempt to have any ban scrapped.
Logan wrote: “Was thrown to Luke in a good manner. Nothing aggressive.
“Was told by the Stewards I’m facing a 3 year ban. All paid up for Gdańsk next week and this looks like it could be the end of the road for me. Was a peaceful gesture that was taken out of context. Luke shaw laughed…”
In reply, United left-back Shaw commented: “I understand completely, first match back at Old Trafford , emotions are high.

“I know there was nothing aggressive towards what you did. I will try my best to speak with someone and sort it out.”
Logan thanked the England international for his solidarity, adding that it ‘means a lot’.
The Premier League match was the first to welcome fans back to Old Trafford with the anti-Glazer colours a common sight.
Many held up cards reading ‘GO Glazers out’ during the draw, in particular the 51st minute to demand fan ownership like Germany’s 50+1 model that sees supporters hold the majority share in clubs.
I understand completely, first match back at old Trafford , emotions are high. I know there was nothing aggressive towards what you did. I will try my best to speak with someone and sort it out 👍🏽— Luke Shaw (@LukeShaw23) May 18, 2021

And protests against the ownership, for the European Super League debacle and taking millions out of the club, were peaceful.
Supporters also met outside the stadium two hours before the match to make their voices heard.
In recent weeks, a group of United fans have also stormed the training ground and hundreds stormed the pitch to force the game with Liverpool to be postponed.

Man Utd 1 Fulham 1: Edinson Cavani stunner cancelled out by late Joe Bryan strike as fans return to Old Trafford

THESE are the special moments Ole Gunnar Solskjaer promised Edinson Cavani when he convinced him to stay on at Old Trafford.Scoring in front of an empty stadium is one thing, scoring in front of fans in The Stretford End is quite something else.

And when you score a goal that will go down in the pantheon of great strikes at Old Trafford it is something else still.
His incredible 15th minute chip on the run from 40 yards brought a roar from the 10,000 inside the stadium that sounded like five times that many.
In persuading Cavani to extend his stay to next season Solskjaer painted an emotional picture to the veteran striker of what it would be like to score in front of fans next season.
Solskjaer has promised those same fans they will see the very best of him in the next campaign – and still rates him as one of the world’s best even at the age of 34.
To think he could have come and gone without experiencing the appreciation of the United fans.
The veteran’s impact has been remarkable.
He was a free agent that no big club wanted on leaving PSG. He was snapped up by Solskjaer as the transfer deadline clock ticked down last October.
Having not played since the previous March and without a pre-season it was always going to take time for him to warm to his task.

The Fulham full-back ghosted in to plunder an equaliserCredit: Reuters
It has been in the last two months that we have seen the best of him.
He has scored nine of his 16 goals in the last ten games, none more memorable than this one which began with a pass out from the back by goalkeeper David De Gea.
He found Bruno Fernandes and his flick, or so we thought, meant that Cavani was just onside as he started his run from a couple of feet past the halfway line.
What came next was breathtaking as he spotted goalkeeper Alphonse Areola off his line and executed the most wonderful chipped shot that dipped just under the bar.
Of course there was a VAR check, as always, and had Fernandes flicked it Cavani was onside.
The question was whether he had though because if the ball came directly from De Gea he was definitely offside and replays suggested Fernandes had not made contact.
Still, unless you are a Fulham fan, you had to be thankful this moment was not taken away from the Uruguayan legend.
Spookily it was from a similar spot that the last goal was scored here in front of fans, the second in a 2-0 win against Manchester City by Scott McTominay in March of last year.
Fulham’s goal was reward as they never gave up at Old TraffordCredit: Times Newspapers Ltd
That came after a loose pass from Ederson offered him a gaping goal to aim at, this was something different.
It was a shame the votes had just been counted for the fans goal of the season which was given to Bruno Fernandes, also their player of the season, for his curler into the far top corner in the 3-3 draw against Everton in February.
After the protests, postponement of the Liverpool game and fixture congestion that Solskjaer felt lead to their two home defeats last week it was a much needed moment of joy.
A moment tempered by the fact United failed to beat this already relegated side and one who had lost seven and drawn one of their previous eight games.
Their 76th-minute equaliser came when Joe Bryan met Bobby De Cordova-Reid’s right wing cross with a close-range header.
The fans fell largely silent after that. They came in their green and gold, held up banners calling for the owning Glazer family, and chanted their disapproval of them at times.
But at least they were back inside Old Trafford for the first time in 14 months supporting their team and they wanted to enjoy it.

Mason Greenwood should really have sealed a victory for them in the 74th minute when he latched onto Cavani’s perfectly weighted through ball but fired his shot straight at Areola.
As so often happens a quick goal comes at the other end as it did two minutes later and the importance off the missed chance grows.
For United that now one win and a draw in five – they have lost momentum with just one game before the Europa League Final with Villarreal.
Perhaps it is because their eyes are already on that occasion, with Champions League football guaranteed for next season.
As Solskjaer addressed the crowd at full-time he got roar when he said they aimed to bring that silverware back to them from Gdansk.
A roar is something this place has missed.

Watch Edinson Cavani score goal of the season contender as Man Utd hitman lobs Alphonse Areola from 40 yards

MANCHESTER UNITED striker Edinson Cavani scored a goal of the season contender with a 40-yard lob.The 33-year-old was played through by Bruno Fernandes, and showing the confidence of the world class striker he is, Cavani chipped it straight over Fulham keeper Alphonse Areola.

With 10,000 fans inside Old Trafford tonight, the goal was cheered wildly by the United fans.
There was a VAR check to make sure the Uruguayan was onside, but thankfully he was and the stunning goal stood.
The goal came on the 15-minute mark as already-relegated Fulham were cut apart.
United fans were quick to compliment the striker after his stunning strike.
‘Special player’, ‘world class’ and ‘incredible striker’ were just some of the phrases used.
And there was a general consensus that it is indeed a ‘goal of the season’ contender.
But United might have to reconsider their own ‘Goal of the Season’ winner. Earlier today it was given to Bruno Fernandes for his 25-yard stunner in a 3-3 February draw against Everton
Former Liverpool and Aston Villa defender Stephen Warnock told BBC Radio 5Live: I loved the goal, the move, the noise, the atmosphere when it went it.

“Cavani said recently he wanted to sample the atmosphere and play in front of the Old Trafford faithful. Well they know what he’s capable of now. Wow.”
SunSport has exclusively revealed how Cavani will hit a six-figure jackpot if he is a chart-topper in his second season at Old Trafford.
The Manchester United striker agreed a deal to stay for another 12 months, as we revealed he had been offered a pay hike to £250,000-a-week.

And the Uruguay forward could earn close to the same again in bonuses if he is in the goals next season.
Cavani, 34, will pick up an extra £100,000 if he is United’s leading scorer – and a similar amount if he ends up as the Premier League’s Golden Boot winner.
It is also understood that United will promise the South American a rolling annual review, which could even see him staying in England for another season beyond the next one.
