Football themed beer by Away Days features Man Utd legend Cantona’s Collar IPA, and has been enjoyed by Alan Shearer

IF you’re looking for a tipple while watching Match of the Day, you couldn’t go far wrong with these football themed beers.Launched by lifelong Ipswich Town fan Josh Bartlett, Away Days are an independent brewery that specialises in combining the beautiful game with brilliant lager.
Lifelong Ipswich Town fan Josh Bartlett has launched football themed beers with Away Days
Man Utd legend Eric Cantona has his own specially themed IPA
Each is named after legends of the game and capped off with bottle designs based around the iconic kits they wore.
From Cantona’s Collar, a strong 6.1 per cent IPA to the Scandinavian Pale Schmeichale, Manchester United legends are well represented.
While, England fans can toast record goalscorer Wayne Rooney with his very own pale ale, Wayne Brewney.
And if you are fond of a German beer, why not try the 4.6 per cent Bundeslager that’s adorned in their famous 1994 World Cup kit, and worn by former greats including Jurgen Klinsmann.
Away Days even caused a bit of controversy earlier this year when they launched a drink requested by Ipswich Town fans – a Lambert Out mid-table ale.
At the time, owner Bartlett said: “I’ve been careful – I’m a lifelong Ipswich fan and there’s a fine line here, it’s a tough job without a doubt.
“He’s under a lot of pressure even though we’ve all heard how he can handle the pressure, but it just got to a point.
“I asked other fans if they would be interested in me making a beer and the market was there. It’s a bit of fun, but it’s really a way for fans to express their frustrations on about how things are right now.
“It’s a light in a really dark tunnel for Ipswich Town fans.”
The beers have even managed to draw celebrity fans, with Alan Shearer toasting his own Ale’n Shearer and TV presenter Chris Kamara enjoying his Fighting Like Beervers drink.
If Scandinavian pale ale is your fancy, why not try the Schmeichale
Alan Shearer is a fan and poses with his very own Ale’n Shearer beer
While Chris Kamara receives a welcome package of his Fighting Like Beervers tipple

You can buy six and 12-packs of the beers of your choice for a very reasonable £14.99 and £28.99 respectively.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer jokes Man Utd legend and TV pundit Gary Neville ‘always has lot to say, even in the dressing room’

IT DIDN’T take long for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Manchester United to become the target of the TV pundits once again. His old team-mate Gary Neville was at it on Sky once more claiming Solskjaer is under pressure now to deliver silverware this season or next after more backing in the transfer market.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has defended his Manchester United charges
He has also claimed in the wake of United’s 1-0 home defeat to Aston Villa on Saturday that the team under Solskjaer is lacking a clear style of play.
But having been used to Neville’s forthright views as a team-mate, Solskjaer was once again happy to handle the flack ahead of their Champions League game at home to Villarreal.
Solskjaer said: “He always has a lot to say, even when I was sat next to him in the dressing room.
“Yes I’ve been backed, the backing I have got says to me we are sticking to a plan – but we are in a results business. Expectations have improved with our signings.
“The pressure is a privilege. To work in this environment, you have to embrace that pressure.
“We are here to win, don’t think twice about that. Gary knows that.

“We have an obligation to win here in a certain style, sometimes that is risky and you lose one or two, but we’ll get there and hopefully we’ll get there in April or May.”
When it comes to the style of play Solskjaer has definitely made United a more attractive watch compared to the times under Louis van Gaal and Jose Mourinho.
He says that if they are guilty of anything it is in getting the ball forward too quickly.
He said: “The Aston Villa game we broke up play really well, and maybe we attacked too fast, we want to keep the tempo up.
“Maybe we finished the attacks too quickly. Then if you slow it too much it might be against a low block.
“We know Villarreal defend well and high. We need to play quick. Gary knows what the DNA is at the club and what we are trying to do.”
It’s not a must-win game but it is very important after the Young Boys game.Ole Gunnar Solskjaer
Solskjaer found himself having to defend some individuals in his team as well after three defeats in four games across three different competitions.
Fred and McTominay played as the defensive midfield duo in the defeat against Aston Villa and their combination has brought criticism from some sections of fans.
But Solskjaer is sticking by them.
He said: “The stats for those two have brought many good results with the energy they give us, the way they break up play.

“They are instrumental together with energy and desire and they are two that I can trust. Fans always have opinions when you have good players to pick from and it is hard to leave players out.”
United go into their second Champions League group game already under pressure to get a result after losing their opener away to Young Boys.
Solskjaer said: “If you end up with zero points after two games you need to win the last four probably. It’s not a must-win game but it is very important after the Young Boys game.
“If you win one away and your home games you should be through. We’ll get a good response from the weekend.”

Man Utd and Chelsea monitoring Franck Kessie transfer situation with AC Milan midfielder ‘wanting Prem switch’

MANCHESTER UNITED are one of several Premier League teams keeping an eye on AC Milan star Franck Kessie, according to reports.Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal, Tottenham and Everton are all said to be in the mix for the Ivorian following his strong form for the Italian club.
Franck Kessie is being tracked by multiple Premier League teamsCredit: AFP
Kessie, 24, is out of contract at the end of the season, his fifth at the San Siro.
English clubs will therefore be able to negotiate a pre-agreement for a summer free transfer as soon as January.
As reported by 90min, United and many Prem rivals have asked Kessie’s agent to be kept in the loop if the player decides to hear out offers.
Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich are also named in the report but the midfielder is said to prefer a move to England, which is seen as a better fit for his playing style.
But Milan still have a couple of months to persuade him to stay.
Talks over a new contract are said to be at a standstill following Kessie’s rejection of a new deal.

Reports in Italy detail Milan’s proposal to more than double his current £35,000 weekly wage to over £80,000-a-week.
That would then rise to £105,000-a-week in the final two years of the proposed five-year contract, according to Tuttosport.
However, Kessie is said to be seeking as much as £115,000-a-week as a starting salary, following his role in Milan’s resurgence over the past year.
A decision will reportedly be made by the former Atalanta star in January over whether he will stick with the Rossoneri or head for pastures new.
Should he choose to move on, Milan are described by Corriere dello Sport as increasingly confident that the emerging Sandro Tonali will step up as the key man in their midfield.

United are sweating on his fitness for Wednesday’s clash against Villarreal after the left-back was forced off injured in the defeat to Aston Villa.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer confirmed after Saturday’s loss that Shaw and fellow injured defender Harry Maguire are doubts but will first undergo scans.

“He is getting plenty of minutes on the pitch and the experience will only improve his game.
“Axel would relish the opportunity to stay beyond this season and help the club win trophies.”
Ahead of his loan move to Villa, Tuanzebe signed a new contract with the Red Devils until 2023 with the option of an extra year.
The centre-back made his debut for United in 2016 under Jose Mourinho in a pre-season friendly against Wigan Athletic.
After the game, the Special One quipped: “10 minutes is enough! The potential is there, you see it immediately.”
But since then, Tuanzebe has struggled to cement a place in the first team – with injuries hindering his progress.
Incredibly, he has captained United at all levels, including the first team in a EFL Cup victory against Rochdale in 2019.
That same season, Tuanzebe was lauded by the pundits after marking PSG forward Kylian Mbappe out of a Champions League tie at the Parc des Princes, as United recorded a famous 2-1 win.

Meet the man who could have bought Man Utd for just £10million in 1989, and missed out on a business now worth £3billion

TODAY, Manchester United is a business worth around £3billion.They are one of the world’s most valuable sports teams, thanks in part to a dominance of the British game in the 1990s, 2000s, and 2010s, as well as clever marketing that means their name is recognised around the globe.
Businessman Michael Knighton almost bought Man Utd for £10million in 1989Credit: PA

But in 1989, a then much-maligned club and starved of success, the Red Devils were on the verge of being taken over for just £10million.
Property developer Michael Knighton, now 69, had announced the takeover a day before their opening game of the season at Old Trafford against Arsenal.
Then, on the Saturday, he stood in front of the Stretford End and took in the cheers from some 48,000 fans before the game, appearing in an official team training kit and expertly juggling a football on the pitch.
His plans were to turn Manchester United into a £150million business. He saw that with TV money on the horizon from an expected Sky TV bid, it could be a lucrative money-spinner.
However, behind-the-scenes a secret plot schemed by the United hierarchy was desperate to dissuade Knighton from completing a deal.
Some were said to be miffed by his flamboyant appearance on the sacred Theatre of Dreams turf before the opening Division One game of the 1989-90 season.
While, private documents outlining a blueprint for his plans appeared at a well-known newspaper mogul’s home and ended up putting pressure on Knighton to withdraw his bid, thus ending his dream.
    BOARD RESENTMENT
A former school teacher, Knighton made his fortune building a property portfolio in the 1980s.
And in Manchester United he quite rightly saw their potential as an investment, and understood that ex-chief executive Martin Edwards would entertain an offer.

“The raison d’etre was very simple,” Knighton revealed.
“There was a lot of resentment against the board. Edwards was incredibly unpopular and desperate to exit. The business was losing money and home gates had fallen to as low as 18-20,000.”
United’s vast fanbase was key to Knighton’s theory. It’s what encouraged him to walk onto the pitch and orchestrate the crowd like a master politician would his voters.
“I wanted to show the fans I was a football man first and a businessman second,” he said.
“I wanted to bridge the gap between the boardroom and the terraces. Yes, it was novel. It was unorthodox. I knew it would attract interest and criticism. But I didn’t care. I needed the fans on my side more than I needed Bobby Charlton or Alex Ferguson, whose job was on the line at that time.
“I knew there was a massive captive market. If you are going to exploit that market, not in a pejorative sense, to sell them everything in order to generate the profits to buy any player in the world, you need them on your side.
“Look at what is happening now with the current owners and how the sponsors are being lobbied and some fans are not buying memorabilia and shirts.
“Of course I loved it. Who wouldn’t? Despite how it all turned out, I don’t regret going on that pitch and if I had £5bn to buy Manchester United today, I would do exactly the same again. I was fulfilling every schoolboy dream in the world.
“If you look at the pictures of that day and the smiles on the faces of the fans in the stadium, it worked.”
    ‘NOT VERY UNITED’
Knighton’s entertaining turn at Old Trafford, that would’ve given Simply Red singer, United fan and 80s icon Mick Hucknall a run for his money even at that time, riled the stiff board.
Former United chief executive Martin Edwards was said to have regretted his decision to sell after Knighton’s extravagant appearanceCredit: News Group Newspapers Ltd

“Ridiculous”, one senior official called it – and it was at this point it was said that Edwards began to regret his decision to sell to the extravagant businessman.
Knighton’s way wasn’t the United way, despite Edwards revealing in his programme notes before a game against Norwich he wanted to sell the club and Knighton’s money would be put to use in developing the ground.
“It is not a secret that we have wished to develop the Stretford End for a number of years now,” Edwards wrote.
“The budget of £7.5m made me realise the commencement of the work is light years away.
“What Mr Knighton’s offer has brought us is the opportunity to develop the stadium as well as the playing staff and this offer was impossible to refuse.”
But privately Edwards was looking for a way out.
    SECRET DOSSIER
With every TV appearance Knighton made talking about buying United, he irked senior figures more.
Bizarrely, a document known as his ‘blueprint’ to help United become a £150million operation was mysteriously left at the house of newspaper owner Eddy Shah, who was a pal of the United hierarchy.
Shah immediately got in touch and senior board members rushed to his Macclesfield home.

Even United legend Bobby Charlton arrived at the scene, and was said to have had a calming influence on Shah’s aggressive dogs purely by his presence.
The dossier was supposed to be private. The fact it had got out put Knighton under pressure to withdraw his bid.
Knighton was offered a place on the board, if he opted out of a deal. He accepted.
For the next three years, he was a quiet influence in the boardroom, until 1992 when he bought Carlisle, before finally walking away from football 10 years later.
After that period, United went on to dominate the domestic game and adding European trophies to their trophy cabinet.
“It is extraordinary how Martin Edwards has claimed credit for what happened in the following decade after my involvement. Unbelievable,” Knighton said..
“I kept my mouth shut and my head down because my reputation had been hammered and it is virtually impossible to change a public image.
After three years on the board at Old Trafford, Knighton left to become Carlisle chairmanCredit: Rex
Now 69, Knighton isn’t involved in football anymoreCredit: The Sun

“But Martin and the other people on the board decided to hide behind the fiasco Michael Knighton caused and claim the credit themselves.
“If they could really see what was going to happen, why did they agree to sell the club for £10m?”
    Now, we’ll never know.
