Man Utd ‘add Sevilla boss Julen Lopetegui to five-man manager shortlist’ as they ramp up hunt for next coach

MANCHESTER UNITED have added Sevilla boss Julen Lopetegui to their shortlist of candidates for the Old Trafford dugout.According to The Guardian, Lopetegui has been included in a list of five managers that could replace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer after interim coach Ralf Rangnick moves up into a consultancy role in June.

The Spaniard has been enjoying a successful stint in Andalusia as he won the Europa League in 2020 and could be on course for another one this year if his team disposes of West Ham from the Last 16.
The former Real Madrid and Spain manager has also taken Sevilla to second place in the Spanish top flight this season.
However, the Red Devils are also keeping tabs on Paris Saint-Germain’s Mauricio Pochettino, Ajax’s Erik ten Hag, Chelsea’s Thomas Tuchel and Spain’s Luis Enrique.

RUDI GARCIA has revealed he held productive talks with Manchester United to become their interim manager.But despite his ‘interviews going well’, Garcia eventually missed out on the role to Ralf Rangnick.

The German was appointed by United in December following Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s exit the month before.
However, Rangnick’s time at the helm has not gone to plan, with United out of all cup competitions and struggling to finish fourth in the league.
Rangnick will now move behind the scenes into a consultancy role at Old Trafford this summer, with Chelsea’s Thomas Tuchel the reported top choice to replace him.
But things may have panned out differently had United opted for Garcia instead.

And Neville believes United could face many more barren years after assembling an average squad.
The former Red Devil tweeted: “No surprise last night. Any decent with organisation and fight are likely to beat this United team.
“It’s why I couldn’t get excited after Spurs last Saturday because that Spurs performance will get you beat vs a good team. A long road in to the end of May!”

And Man Utd chiefs are considering knocking down the beloved arena in order to build a new stadium on the same site.
Other options include the club remodelling their South Stand to build over close-running train tracks.

But club icon Neville believes demolishing Old Trafford and starting from scratch is the best way forward to usher in a new era.
