Solskjaer sick of Greenwood’s attitude with Man Utd starlet late for training TWICE before recent axe

MASON GREENWOOD has infuriated Ole Gunnar Solskjaer after twice turning up late for training.
The Manchester United manager had already warned him about his conduct following his expulsion from the England squad last month.

But the teenage star has now been axed from the last two United squads for the 4-1 win at Newcastle and midweek triumph over PSG.
Solskjaer has also grown sick of the striker’s general attitude so far this season.
His performance level has dropped significantly too not least in the 6-1 drubbing by Tottenham in United’s last home game at Old Trafford.

Solskjaer claimed ahead of the PSG game that it was not a disciplinary issue and that he was out the squad because he had a ‘niggle’.

The manager, however, refused to say what that ‘niggle’ was or when he got it.
Greenwood, 19, was also pictured swerving between posts during full training before the team flew out to Paris.
He now has some work to do to get back into Solskjaer’s good books.
It is unlikely he will start in the weekend’s home game against Chelsea given that United have produced two impressive performances without him.

It was the start of last month that Greenwood was expelled from the England camp after his debut against Iceland.
He and Phil Foden invited two girls back to the team hotel after the game in Reykjavik breaking strict team and Covid protocols.
Southgate was understood to be furious and left both players out of the Three Lions squads the three most recent internationals.
Solskjaer tried to defend Greenwood at the time claiming that the player had needed a physical and mental rest and should not have been called up for international duty.

Man Utd stars Fred and Tuanzebe awarded just 4/10 and 5/10 ratings against PSG by L’Equipe despite winning over fans

MANCHESTER UNITED duo Axel Tuanzebe and Fred starred in helping their team defeat PSG – but French newspaper L’Equipe was not impressed.
Tuanzebe was playing his first game for ten months and marshalled superstars Kylian Mbappe and Neymar brilliantly in a coming-of-age performance.

    4

Yet L’Equipe, who are notoriously stingy with their match ratings, only awarded him a five out of ten.
Fred, alongside Scott McTominay, easily won the midfield battle against fomer United star Ander Herrera and ex-Everton man Idrissa Gueye.
That was demonstrated when PSG boss Thomas Tuchel hooked off Gueye at half-time.

Yet L’Equipe only awarded the Brazilian a FOUR out of ten.

In fact, despite United earning a brilliant 2-1 victory in their opening Champions League game against last-season’s finallists, only three players even managed sevens.
They were David De Gea, Victor Lindelof and Alex Telles.
Elsewhere, matchwinner Marcus Rashford, fellow scorer Bruno Fernandes and Anthony Martial – who scored an own goal – were all given sixes.
But the French newspaper was similarly harsh to PSG, with them splashing the word ‘unrecognisable’ on their front page.

    4

L’Equipe described PSG’s performance as ‘unrecognisable’ on their front sport page

Neymar, Mbappe and former United man Herrera all scored four.
Gueye, who failed to come out for the first half, ranked even worse with a THREE.
Only goalkeeper Keylor Navas came out with any respectability, registering a seven.
The 2-1 victory for United was well deserved according to a delighted Solskajer speaking afterwards.

    4

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was delighted with his side’s showing in France
He told BT Sport: “When you go away to a team like this against Neymar and Mbappe you have to defend well and your keeper will have to make saves.
“Axel Tuanzebe is a top defender and his first game in 10 months was testament to the quality he has.
“Bruno missed two penalties in a row but he’s not going to stop taking them – he showed focus and character.
“We know we need ten points to get through so next week’s game is very important. There are so many games.”

BT Sport’s state-of-the-art new app lets fans virtually enter Man Utd’s stadium and dressing room

BT SPORT’S new Match Day Experience is taking football fans behind the scenes at Premier League clubs – and even Rio Ferdinand is impressed.
The broadcasters are harnessing the power of 5G to deliver augmented reality offerings that puts users right into the heart of areas normally out of bounds for the public.

    6

Users will have a choice of where and how to access, then a portal will appear

    6

Soon you will be in the Man Utd dugout, ready for the big game

Simply lock in on a spot in your living room and suddenly a portal opens letting you walk into the dressing rooms at Elland Road or Old Trafford.
The user is suddenly right there in the inner sanctum of the biggest clubs in England, able to explore and get a genuine feel for what the Premier League stars experience.
Former Manchester United and England captain Ferdinand said: “The dressing room was the place where no-one was able to go so to see inside is amazing.

“Even now, I’m intrigued to look at what the changing rooms are like right now.

“I’ve been in there at Leeds, but I haven’t been in there for 15-18 years, wherever is. So it’s intriguing for me to get that opportunity to go in and have a look.
“I wanted to have it and I think fans will be the same because and even looking at things like the difference in size of the home and away changing rooms.
“There is a massive difference in like luxuriousness of a home changing compared to it away changing rooms.
“Then when you see Old Trafford, they’ve expanded the home dressing room so much and you can see the gadgets that are in there now. For a fan to be able to see in there I think is a great added value.”

    6

Fans can then get to see what the players do on match-days – under current restrictions anyway

The app feature, which will start to be available to EE subscribers this month, shows content filmed behind the scenes at all the top flight grounds, including the walk out of the tunnel onto the pitch.
There is also the option to ‘Watch Together’ in a live split-screen experience with friends and families through Augmented Reality.
Fans will also be able to watch the game from any angle – with an incredible new 360-degree camera feature.
But it also involves real time stats and even a split screen function which allows pals to connect during matches while they are sat in separate homes.

    6

The Man Utd trophy room might take a bit of time out of the day
And Ferdinand says the capability to deliver real time stats will allow him to do his job as a pundit for BT Sport more easily.
He added: “There are things that bring a bit of realism to the game, like the speed with which a player runs to get on to a ball.
“You can see someone has scored a goal and then ‘oh, he’s running 21km an hour’.
“All that data I can use as a pundit now as well. Normally we outsource all this data, and you’ll be waiting for it to arrive.
“Now this is live, I get it there and then, there isn’t any waiting about.
“I get it and can put it into what I’m looking to do at half time or full time. It really makes my job a little bit easier as well.”
Match Day Experience on the BT Sport app, the UK’s most immersive sports viewing service, will be inclusive for new customers taking the Full Works iPhone plan with the new 5G iPhone. Visit ee.co.uk for more from October 16.

Maguire should be delighted by Tuanzebe’s masterclass vs PSG – the youngster could save, not destroy, his Man Utd career

AXEL TUANZEBE might be the best thing to happen to Harry Maguire since the defender joined the club from Leicester for £85million last year.
It’s been well documented just what a tough time Maguire, 27, has had for club and country after his Greek antics.

    2

Man Utd skipper Harry Maguire has gone through a rough patch Credit: PA:Press Association

Apart from an impressive performance against Newcastle in the Premier League on Saturday, Maguire has struggled badly positionally but also with the timing of his challenges on multiple occasions.
Just watch the first half of United’s 6-1 home defeat to Spurs for a reminder!
But Tuanzebe’s return, takes the pressure off Maguire.

The England international can now focus on the things that attracted United to him in the first place.

He can get back to defending well in the air, reading the game properly, walking the ball out of defence, and taking control of the back four.
And he can do this safe in the knowledge he will have a mobile partner in Tuanzebe, 22, next to him waiting to sweep up the danger if required.
Tuanzebe’s return should be a long-term one after a great showing against PSG, which means that Maguire will now be in competition with Victor Lindelof for a spot next to the youngster.
For too long Maguire has tried to do the things he’s not comfortable with and made mistakes and lost confidence.

Tuanzebe hadn’t played a game of first-team football for United since December 2019, so admittedly it was a surprise on Tuesday evening to see him thrown into a three-man defence up against Kylian Mbappe and Neymar.
Tuanzebe is quick and an exceptional defender with superb technical ability.
And he showed in Paris during United’s 2-1 win, he’s also an intelligent footballer who can snuff out danger quickly without looking flustered.
His potential is something that’s never been questioned, but his biggest and only real issue has been the persistent battle to remain fit for a prolonged period of time.
United were linked with some of the best central defenders in Europe throughout the summer transfer window but the message from the club was clear – they weren’t pursuing one.
Former United centre-half Rio Ferdinand knows what it takes to succeed in the heart of defence and he was full of praise for the youngster after the famous win.

Here’s who Manchester United have signed since Sir Alex Ferguson stepped down
He told BT Sport: “This is where Manchester United have struggled in the last six to 12 months, chasing players down the channels.
“They can’t stay with them and then that opens up the back four. They were smelling danger.
“Yes [has he played his way into the team]. Ole has just said he’s snuffed out two of the best strikers in the world. You have to reward performances.
“He’s had a hard time with injuries, his first game in ten months but to come in and play like that, you have to be rewarded.”
So all eyes turn to the weekend and the fixture against Chelsea.
A fit Tuanzebe has to be one of the first names on the team sheet.
And if Maguire can find his Leicester form, then United might have a partnership that can lead them to a trophy this campaign.

Mason Greenwood hauled in by Man Utd chiefs ‘over being late to training with club frustrated with England star’

MASON GREENWOOD was reportedly hauled in front of Manchester United chiefs and given a dressing down for rocking up late to training.
The 19-year-old forward is said to have frustrated the Red Devils with his ‘general tardiness’, according to The Mail.

Greenwood missed United’s 2-1 Champions League win over Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday night, with strong rumours his exclusion was related to off-field matters.
However, boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer firmly denied it was anything other than a fitness issue for the England star – who also didn’t make the squad for Saturday’s 4-1 win over Newcastle .
The Norwegian gave a flat ‘no’ when it was put to him that Greenwood’s absence could be related to a disciplinary issue.

On Saturday the official word was Greenwood was ‘unfit to play’ but pictures surfaced of the Three Lions youngster continuing to train before the rest of the squad flew to Paris.

Solskjaer refused to reveal any more information about the nature of Greenword’s injury.
He said: “I can’t declare medical stuff, can I?
“We hope it’s just a niggle and we don’t want to take any chances with him, and hopefully at the weekend it’ll be fine again.”
It’s unclear when Greenwood sustained the ‘niggle’ after he did not go away during the international break.

The striker was expelled from the England camp for disciplinary reasons after his Icelandic hotel shame alongside Manchester City’s Phil Foden.
After making their senior international debuts in Reykjavik, Greenwood and Foden met up with two girls at the team hotel, despite strict Covid-19 protocols, and were booted from Gareth Southgate’s side.
United’s new No11 has seen his form suffer since, finding the net only once in the Carabao Cup game away at Luton.
And after apologising for his role in the saga, the Bradford lad was again forced to say sorry after a video surfaced of him inhaling hippy crack.

Man Utd fans convinced club has dig at Angel Di Maria with ‘big player’ jibe in cheeky Instagram post after PSG win

MANCHESTER UNITED fans enjoyed the club’s Instagram post that appeared to be a cheeky jibe against Angel Di Maria.
The Paris Saint-Germain winger has put together a fantastic career in the game – bar a woeful season at Old Trafford.

    2

With Di Maria and the Red Devils certainly not on each other’s Christmas card list, Tuesday’s 2-1 win was extra sweet for the Premier League club.
And an Instagram post picturing David De Gea making a save from Di Maria was taken by many to be a dig against the ex-Red.
The club’s caption read: “Big players step up in the big moments.”

Di Maria, 32, has bagged goals and assists left, right and centre for PSG, after a £44million switch in 2015.

That came after a terrible season at United, who paid Real Madrid almost £60m for his signature.
After a promising start in Manchester, it could not be said that Di Maria turned up in the big moments and he scored just four times in 33 appearances.
Likewise, he failed to produce any magic as PSG were beaten at Parc des Princes on Tuesday night.
At seeing the club’s Instagram post, many were convinced it was a sly dig at the Argentine.

One fan wrote: “I see what you did there admin.”
    While Seb commented: “Beef.”
Joe replied: “UNITED WITH THE DISS INJECT IT.”
And another United supporter remarked: “Don’t mess with Manchester United.”

Bruno Fernandes looks a natural leader as he passes Man Utd captaincy test with flying colours in Maguire’s absence

BRUNO FERNANDES looked surprised when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer announced he would captain Manchester United in Paris.
Yet it would not be a shock to see the Portuguese take the Red Devils armband on a more permanent basis going forward.

    2

Bruno Fernandes, as he has done since he joined United, stepped up once again when it matteredCredit: Getty Images – Getty

Leadership is something that comes naturally to the £67million midfielder – even though he is only 26.
Back in February 2019, he took over as skipper of Sporting Lisbon from ex-United winger Nani and kept it for the final year of his stay.
And he showed in the French capital he could take on the responsibility – either for good or at least for the foreseeable future while Harry Maguire focuses on clearing his name.

The England defender – who was absent on Tuesday night due to a hamstring injury – has looked like a man with the weight of the world on his shoulders this season.

The £80 million man has a Greek jail sentence hanging over his head and knows if that is not overturned then the United captaincy is not all he would lose.
His horror show against Tottenham and then that red card for the Three Lions against Denmark were proof how hard he is finding it at the moment.
At least Solskjaer knows he has the ideal man to stand in if he does need to take Maguire out of the spotlight at any stage.
To think that not long ago Paul Pogba had hopes of taking over as skipper at United – the record signing is not even getting in the starting line-up right now.

Fernandes has been a talisman ever since he first set foot in Old Trafford at the end of January.
His influence has been clear right from the off and he has not been afraid to tell team-mates when they need a word in their ear.
He also has high standards and despite a quiet start to the season, he has started to look much more like his old self in the last two games.
And his unflappable temperament was evident here too.

    2

Bruno Fernandes has become irreplaceable for UnitedCredit: EPA
It would have been easy for him to pass on the responsibility after seeing Keylor Navas save his penalty – on the back of his miss at Newcastle on Saturday.
But he was ice cool when the ref ordered it to be retaken – scoring for the 11th time from 12 spot-kicks.
It is that sort of character that makes him an obvious choice as a future United captain. The only question is when.

Man Utd star Martial has first shot on target this season… but it’s an OWN GOAL after he heads in with eyes closed

MANCHESTER UNITED star Anthony Martial had his eyes CLOSED when he headed into his own goal.
That saw PSG equalise after the Frenchman had earlier won his side a penalty that Bruno Fernandes scored from – at the second attempt.

Martial’s only shot on target this season has gone in. Ice cold🥶🥶
    — Matt (@MattMUFC__) October 20, 2020

United went on to win 2-1 after another brilliant late goal by Marcus Rashford.
But the result looked in major doubt when, on 55 minutes, Neymar swung in a corner and Martial rose highest only to head past David De Gea into the back of the net.
Slow motion replays show the 24-year-old decided to close his eyes when trying to clear from danger – no wonder he got his angles all wrong.
Martial is yet to have a shot on target this season for Manchester United.

And United fans were left less-thank impressed on social media, with some joking he is now on minus-one for the season.
One fan was left wondering ‘what did he just do’, while others scoffed that he had scored more own goals than goals so far this season.
One even went so far as to describe the United player a ‘fraud’.
But Martial had contributed in a positive way at the Pace des Princes by earning an early penalty that led to United taking the lead.

It led to Fernandes MISSING his second-straight penalty – but was given a reprieve.
The Portuguese midfielder missed a penalty against Newcastle at the weekend, his first failure since October 2018.

Ah totally martial really poor. My point is corner could have been prevented just but martial to blame totally.
    — Man Utd Fan (@MUFC__87) October 20, 2020

Noticeably, he changed his usual hop-skip-jump routine.
And it seemed that bad luck was continuing as PSG keeper Keylor Navas dived low to left to save.
The hop-skip-jump was back, but it didn’t work.
However, the officials judged Navas to have come too far off his line and ordered the re-take.
And this time, with the same routine, Fernandes made no mistake as he rolled it into the same corner he had earlier been thwarted in.
