Man Utd verdict: Luke Shaw’s two assists in brilliant first half show Solskjaer he is now undroppable for Red Devils

LUKE SHAW must be one of the first names on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team-sheet in the weeks ahead.
And the £30 million Manchester United full-back showed against his former club why he has a chance of gate-crashing England’s squad for the Euros.

Luke Shaw is in fine form and is giving England boss Gareth Southgate something to think aboutCredit: EPA

Shaw was ‘rested’ for the shock home defeat against Sheffield United last week with Alex Telles starting instead.
And the Red Devils turned in one of their flattest performances of the season without the in-form 25 year old.
On this evidence, Solskjaer will not be leaving him out again any time soon.
It is six-and-a-half years since he left St Mary’s to join Louis Van Gaal’s United in what was a world record deal for a teenager.

And here he tormented the Saints who were stretched after being reduced to 10-men within the first two minutes.
He teed up two of the four first half goals with superb crosses from the left – first for fellow full-back Aaron Wan Bissaka to slide home.

The one which he landed on Edinson Cavani’s head was arguably better still.

Shaw also had a big hand in the second goal as his pass opened up the visitors defence – allowing Mason Greenwood to cross for Marcus Rashford to score.
With his team four goals up at the break, Solskjaer chose to take him off and protect him ahead of a busy few weeks.
Goalkeeper David de Gea said at the weekend that Shaw has become a key ‘weapon’ for United and makes the team better.
And the left-back is arguably having his best period of his United career right now.
As well as the faith of the manager, he credits the £13.5 million of the experienced Telles in October as a big factor in his improvement.
Shaw knows he has genuine competition for his spot and said the new arrival is pushing him every step of the way in training.

    ENGLAND RECALL?
That is clearly benefiting United right now – and could be good news for Gareth Southgate too.
Shaw has played only once for England in more than five years – and that solitary recent appearance was back in 2018.
But he admitted in the autumn the door is not closed and right now he is surely playing better than first choice Ben Chilwell.
With United chasing glory on three fronts and the Euros on the horizon, it could be a huge few months ahead for Shaw.
This is his time to become the player Southampton always believed he could be.

Solskjaer wants Man Utd to stop being ‘nice lads’ and start putting more pressure on referees

OLE GUNNAR SOLSKJAER wants his players to get nasty and start putting refs under pressure.
The Manchester United boss revealed a delegate’s report confirmed officials blundered in their recent 2-1 home defeat to Sheffield United.

And Solskjaer wants to see his stars putting more heat on officials to get decisions overturned with the help of the VAR.
He said: “The momentum shifted for us with the Sheffield United game. I’ve got the delegate’s report from the referee and the two decisions were wrong.
“They’ve admitted their goal should have been disallowed and our goal should have stood. That’s a big, big momentum changer for us.
“We are a bunch of nice lads. Maybe we should have made more of a fuss about it.

“Maybe we should have hung on to that or made them look at it before the game started again.
“So those are things we have to learn from and use as motivation or energy.”
The Blades had opened the scoring through a Kean Bryan header on 23 minutes but goalkeeper David De Gea had been pushed by Billy Sharp as he went to punch clear.
Both ref Peter Bankes and VAR David Coote ruled in the visitors’ favour.

Shortly afterwards Anthony Martial looked to have equalised but Harry Maguire was penalised for his challenge on Blades keeper Aaron Ramsdale.
Now Solskjaer wants to use that sense of injustice as a motivation.
He said: “Whenever a team feels unfairly treated there will be a reaction.”

Solskjaer says the decisions belie the theory that United are favoured by officials.
He also cited their opening-day defeat to Crystal Palace when Victor Lindelof was harshly adjudged to have handled for a penalty.
Solskjaer, whose side host Southampton tonight, said: “There has been a narrative for too long about the decisions we have got for us.
“But that doesn’t change where we are now. We just move on.”

Man Utd break Treble heroes’ record by extending unbeaten run away from home in Premier League to 18 games vs Arsenal

MANCHESTER UNITED have broken a club-record to go 18 Premier League games unbeaten away from home.
Sunday’s 0-0 draw with Arsenal was hardly the spectacle many might have hoped, but it put the current crop ahead of some pretty illustious company.

Manchester United’s 1999 treble winners have lost their proud away recordCredit: PA:Empics Sport

The result meant United’s 18 away games breaks the record previously held by the 1998/99 treble winning side.
That squad included the likes of Peter Schmeichel, Roy Keane, David Beckham, Gary Neville and of course United’s current boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
In a trophy-laden season, United went on a run of 33 games unbeaten in all competitions from December 26 1998.

They lost only twice away all season – to Arsenal and Sheffield Wednesday.
Sunday’s 0-0 draw at the Emirates was a milestone game for keeper David De Gea too.
The Spaniard has come if for a fair bit of criticism in recent months for a number of high-profile blunders.
But he remains Solskjaer’s first choice between the sticks, despite the promising Dean Henderson breathing down his neck.

It was the 30-year-old’s 150th clean sheet in all competitions for United.

He’s the fourth goalkeeper to reach this milestone for the club after the aforementioned Schmeichel (178), Alex Stepney (174) and Gary Bailey (161).
United are still firmly in title contention after a stunning turnaround in recent months.
And undoubtedly key to that has been midfielder Bruno Ferrnandes.
Since his arrival, no Premier League player has scored more than his 28 goals in all competitions.
The 26-year-old has also provided 18 assists to fire the Red Devils into title contention.

Bruno Fernandes’ penalties ‘almost impossible’ to save due to controversial hopping technique, says Man Utd’s Lee Grant

MANCHESTER UNITED goalkeeper Lee Grant claims its ‘almost impossible’ to save Bruno Fernandes’ penalties due to his hopping technique.
The Portuguese star has been criticised for his stuttering run-up but has missed just once from the spot since joining United.

Fernandes, 26, has been United’s star player since his £47m move from Sporting Lisbon in 2020Credit: AFP

In an interview with the Athletic, United’s third-choice goalkeeper revealed his struggles against Fernandes in training.
Grant said: “Usually, I’m already forming an opinion about where the penalty-taker is going to put the ball after the first or second step of their run-up.
“I’m looking at their body shape, the angle they are coming in, and that’s when I make my decision. With Bruno, though, it’s almost impossible to read his body language.
“I think I saved one penalty out of 25 from Bruno!”

Fernandes has scored 15 penalties since he joined United from Sporting Lisbon a year ago.
The 26-year-old has previously said his success from the spot is down to the hours of practice he does in training.
Newcastle’s Karl Darlow is the only Premier League goalkeeper to save one of his penalties, coming in United’s 4-1 win at St James’ Park in October.
But Fernandes’ technique has been criticised by some, most notably after he scored a re-take against West Brom in November.

Solskjaer slams ‘disgusting’ racist abuse of Man Utd duo Axel Tuanzebe and Anthony Martial on social media

OLE GUNNAR SOLSKJAER has hit out at the ‘disgusting’ and ‘unacceptable’ racist abuse suffered by two of his players.

And Red Devils boss Solskjaer said: “It’s just incredible we have these scenes still, this abuse in 2021.
“We’ve been campaigning for a long time now with the Premier League and I think it’s working but there are still some people that haven’t got it.
“They hide behind social media, be anonymous and it’s unacceptable and it’s disgusting.
“They’re not Man United fans when this happens. You have to feel sorry for these individuals.”

Solskjaer has spoken to both players involved and highlighted how the rest of the squad have rallied round them.
He said: “The players and everyone, we’ve spoken to each other and they’re fine.

If you can create an anonymous account and abuse people, it’s not right, we’ll work together with everyone to stop this nonsense.
    Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

“We’re all standing behind every single one of our players.”
Solskjaer backed Thursday’s club statement in calling for social media platforms to do more to stop the abusers having a voice.

He said: “I think the social media platforms need to be looked at, yeah.
“If you can create an anonymous account and abuse people, it’s not right, we’ll work together with everyone to stop this nonsense.”

Ex-Man Utd keeper Mark Bosnich slams David de Gea for role in Sheffield Utd goal after Solskjaer claimed he was fouled

MARK BOSNICH has criticised David de Gea’s role in Manchester United’s shock defeat to Sheffield United.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer complained that the goalkeeper had been fouled in the melee that led to the Blades’ opener on Wednesday night.

Kean Bryan headed home as De Gea failed to get close to the pinpoint delivery from John Fleck.
Billy Sharp did made contact with the Spaniard, leading to Solskjaer’s anger following the 2-1 defeat, but Bosnich had little sympathy.
He told talkSPORT: “For me, I’m sorry, but that wasn’t a foul.
“De Gea was just out-jumped. It was a great delivery and I thought the boy got a run on De Gea and he was just completely out-jumped.

“He hesitated at the beginning and he didn’t get the run that you’d like as a goalkeeper.
“I thought it was a fair goal.”

Bosnich won the 1999-00 Premier League in his second spell with United.

And the Australian believes his old club will live to regret Wednesday’s defeat in a frantic title race.
Manchester City are a point above the Red Devils and hold a game in hand over their rivals.
Bosnich believes United’s players were surprised by the Blades’ strong showing, due to a sense of complacency.
The 49-year-old added: “I think it was the attitude, I thought they underestimated Sheffield United.
“There was that little bit of that attitude, where they thought it was just going to happen.

“You have to give credit to Sheffield United as well, they played really well, they came to Old Trafford with a plan, they hurt Man United and they picked up only their second Premier League win of the season.
“It was a massive opportunity for United.
“At the end of the season you’ll look back at games like this and think we should have really got three points, especially at home where it shouldn’t really be a problem, it should have been swatted away.
“Man United do have a history of doing things the tough way, and they’ve given all their supporters hope with how well they’ve done thus far, it was just a very disappointing result.”

Man Utd outcast Marcos Rojo transfer to Boca Juniors leaked by personal trainer as he shows off incredible ripped body

MARCOS ROJO’S personal trainer has leaked the Manchester United outcast’s next destination.
The 30 year-old’s move to Boca Juniors was revealed alongside a photo of the defender showing off his impressive six-pack after a punishing gym session.

Marcos Rojo has been working out in an Argentine gym ahead of the move

Carlos Castro, in a message on the Facebook page of La Plata gym Castro Team Competicion, said: “Marcos Rojo is happy, improving day by day and about to begin training with Boca.
“As his trainer I’m impressed at the physical capacity he has, his recovery and that extra temperament typical of a great high-performance athlete.”
A revealing PS added: “Very good Boca signing, he looks like a Boca player.”
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had confirmed the imminent exits of Rojo and unwanted goalie Sergio Romero earlier this month.

The Red Devils asked both players to find moves away ahead of their contracts expiring in the summer.
Former United midfielder Juan Sebastian Veron had appeared to pile pressure on Rojo to tempt the player back to Estudiantes, where he started his career and enjoyed a loan spell in the second half of last season.
The retired footballer, now president of Estudiantes, subsequently insisted his messages were not directed at the defender.
The future of Romero, filmed by his wife cutting his daughter’s hair earlier this week, remains less clear.

Brighton and Crystal Palace have been named as possible destinations for the outcast, who has also been linked to Boca Juniors and a move to David Beckham’s Inter Miami.
He broke cover after being given permission to return to Argentina by taking a trimmer to eldest child Jazmin’s locks.
Wife Eliana Guercio, who took a long break from social media after a controversial rant at United for refusing to let him leave the club last year, posted the video on her Instagram.
She could be overheard saying ‘perfect’ as Romero, linked in the last week to a move to Brighton, focused on the job in hand and younger sister Chloe jumped around after having her hair trimmed.
The footage was shot in Argentina, with the 33-year-old bare-chested while he got to work because the South American nation is currently in the grip of a summer heatwave.
Despite his return to his homeland, Romero’s wife recently downplayed the possibility he would sign for an Argentine team such as former club Racing.

A fan asked her earlier this month if she was going to stay in Argentina with her husband, after Racing’s president Victor Blanco claimed he would love to have the footballer back between the sticks.
She replied: “I’m here because of the pandemic.
“When all this madness calms down I want to get back with Sergio.
“No clubs in Argentina have rung, so that if someone is saying they have, they’re lying.”

Man Utd transfer target Dayot Upamecano will be SOLD by RB Leipzig in summer as £38m release clause activates

MANCHESTER UNITED will compete with several rivals for Dayot Upamecano this summer, according to reports.
Chelsea, Bayern Munich and Liverpool have all been linked with the Frenchman following his rapid rise at RB Leipzig.

Upamecano was an integral part of the Bundesliga side’s run to last year’s Champions League semi-finals.
But it appears as though this season will be his last at Leipzig with a new contract agreed in 2020 containing a bargain release clause.
The centre-back will be available for £38million when the clause activates at the end of the campaign.
Therefore, clubs are expected to hold off on negotiating a deal until the summer.

According to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, United are among the teams waiting for the right moment to pounce.
A new centre-back was thought to be high on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s agenda last summer.

Competition for Upamecano will come from several quarters with Chelsea now thought to be keen.
New boss Thomas Tuchel reportedly wants the 22-year-old instead of predecessor Frank Lampard’s target, Declan Rice.

Liverpool are also said to be lurking with interest as they struggle to cope with a defensive injury crisis.
However, Joe Gomez and Virgil van Dijk are expected to return from long-term injuries before the start of next season.

Bundesliga giants Bayern may be in pole position for the transfer with Upamecano reportedly favouring a move to Bavaria.
According to German website Fussball Transfers, the defender has held numerous conversations with Munich bosses.
Yet Bayern may attempt to seal a deal for less than his £38m release clause, in the hope that Leipzig will accept a lower fee amid the coronavirus pandemic’s financial crash.

Premier League clubs are targeting RB Leipzig star Dayot Upamecano More
