Ex-Man Utd ace Daley Blind COLLAPSES in Ajax friendly as defender’s heart problems come back

FORMER Manchester United defender Daley Blind sparked huge fears on Tuesday night after he collapsed during Ajax’s friendly against Hertha Berlin.
The 30-year-old Dutchman was diagnosed with heart muscle inflammation in December after he suffered a dizzy spell in a Champions League game with Valencia.

    3

The defender collapsed with no-one around him during Ajax’s friendly with Hertha Berlin
He was cleared to return to action in February but now the star has suffered another scare.
With nobody close to him on the pitch, Blind slumped to the ground towards the end of his team’s 1-0 win in Amsterdam.
His worried team-mates quickly raced over to the responsive ace, with medics also arriving within seconds.
Blind was seen clutching his chest during the terrifying ordeal in the 79th-minute before he was able to leave without assistance.

Erik ten Hag, Blind’s boss at Ajax, said: “Daley Blind’s ICD (implantable cardioverter defibrillator) went off.
“He got subbed off straight away and he is feeling okay now, he is feeling fine. We will do research about this now.”

What is an implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) and how does it work?

An ICD is a device which can be used to treat people who suffer from dangerously abnormal heart rhythms.

The device is placed under your skin to monitor your heart rate with thin wires connecting it to the heart.
It monitors the rhythm of your heart through the electrodes.
If the ICD picks up a dangerous heart rhythm it is able to do three things:
Cardioversion – this is where one or more small electric shocks are used to try and restore the heart to its normal rhythm
Defibrillation – one or more larger electric shocks to help restore normal rhythm
Pacing – low voltage pulses that are delivered to try and correct the rhythm
The British Heart Foundation states that you will need an ICD if you have already had a life threatening abnormal heart rhythm and you are at risk of having it again.
You may also need one if tests show you are at risk of developing an abnormal heart rhythm – or if you have another condition such as heart failure.

After returning to the first-team set-up six months ago after being fitted with a electronic device to monitor his heart, he explained his joy at being back playing.
Doctors fitted him with a device to help him called a subcutaneous implantable cardioverter defibrillator.

This is designed to regulate any abnormal heart rhythms, preventing a potential cardiac arrest.
Blind said ahead of his return: “I am really happy to be back on the pitch.
“I had a little bit of tension beforehand because you don’t know how it will go.
“The doctor really needed to hold me back and step on the brakes because I wanted to get back ASAP.
“I wasn’t scared at all, I wanted to get back on the pitch as fast as possible.”

Dean Henderson throws down gauntlet too David De Gea as he signs new five-year, £120k-a-week Man Utd deal

DEAN HENDERSON has signed a new five-year £120,000-a-week contract at Manchester United.
The Englishman has signed on the dotted line after his loan spell at Sheffield United last season and is aiming to wrestle the No1 jersey from David De Gea.

    2

Dean Henderson has signed a new five-year £120k-a-week contract at Man Utd

    2

David De Gea has been heavily criticised this season and Henderson is targeting his No1 jersey
The deal has the option of an extra year.
And the 23-year-old will not head out on loan next season – instead aiming to become Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s No1.
England goalkeeper Henderson only signed a new £60k-a-week deal last year and the new contract shows Solskjaer wants intense competition in the goalkeeping department.
It also means United will be splashing out £570k-a-week just on keepers, with Spaniard De Gea earning £350,000 a week, Sergio Romero on £70k and Lee Grant on £30k.

A United statement read: “Manchester United are delighted to announce that Dean Henderson has signed a new contract, which will keep him at the club until June 2025, with the option to extend for a further year.
“Henderson, who has been named in the England squad for the upcoming September internationals, is a product of United’s academy and has been at the club since the age of 14.
“The goalkeeper kept 13 clean sheets in the Premier League last season, the joint-third highest in the division, and was nominated for the Premier League Young Player of the Season award.”
Henderson had another standout campaign on loan at the Blades.

He was rewarded by Gareth Southgate with his first England call up yesterday.
SunSport exclusively revealed the United academy product’s representatives had been in talks with Old Trafford chiefs over the last few weeks.
Henderson said: “The pathway I have been on for the past five years has been fantastic for my development and the invaluable loan period at Sheffield United has been part of that.
“The goalkeeping department at United is excellent.
“There are three top-level goalkeepers who have achieved so much in the game and I look forward to working with the group.
“The faith the manager and the club have shown in me with this contract means a lot to me and will continue my progression as a goalkeeper.
“I’ll be giving everything to improve every day so that I can play as many games as possible for this great club.

“Now I am looking forward to joining up with the England squad and then preparing for the season ahead.”
Solskjaer said: “We are delighted Dean has signed his new contract. He had another great season at Sheffield United, where he gained a lot of experience and grew both as a player and a person.
“Dean is a fantastic young keeper with the attitude and work-rate to keep improving every day.
“We are in a strong position within the goalkeeping department and that gives us the competition for places that we are looking for in the squad.
“Dean is another great example of the type of player who has come through the academy and truly understands what it means to be at Manchester United.
“We are all looking forward to working with Dean and continuing to develop his talent.”
SunSport understands there had been interest in Henderson from Chelsea, but no official approach was made.

De Gea, 29, recently defended his position as United’s goalkeeper after insisting: “I am still the No1.
“I trust in myself. I have shown my qualities all the years. So I will just stay available for the manager.
“I’m always ready to play and try to help the team, as I have always done.”

Man Utd told to make ‘unrefusable’ transfer bid for Monaco defender Benoit Badiashile after £22.4m offer is rejected

MANCHESTER UNITED have reportedly been told to make Monaco an “unrefusable bid” if they want to sign Benoit Badiashile.
A whole host of clubs are believed to be chasing the 19-year-old French defender this summer.

Real Madrid, Bayer Leverkusen and Chelsea are all rivalling United for his signature.
But after reportedly having a £22.4m bid rejected, United will have to loosen the purse strings a bit more if they are to snare the centre-half.
RMC reporter Mohamed Bouhafsi has tweeted that they will struggle “unless Manchester make a Martial-like, unrefusable bid for him”.
United paid Monaco £36m plus add-ons taking it to a potential £50m for the striker in 2015.

Leverkusen, who have “been in talks to sign the player for weeks” are likely to firm up a bid with the Principality outfit.
Badiashile is regarded as one of France’s brightest talents after breaking into the first team two seasons ago.
He was rewarded with a new contract in December to keep him at the club until the summer of 2024.

Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly remains an option but United have been put off by his £70m asking price.

New Monaco boss Niko Kovac is thought to be a keen admirer of Badiashile and wants to build his squad around the defender.
But with the coronavirus having a huge financial impact on football, Kovac knows the decision may be out of his hands.

Harry Maguire faces Man Utd captaincy talks after he’s given suspended 21-month sentence following Mykonos brawl

HARRY MAGUIRE will reportedly sit down with Manchester United officials to discuss his role as club captain following his Mykonos brawl.
The defender 27, was found guilty of aggravated assault, resisting arrest and attempted bribery following a clash with police on the Greek Island.

But Maguire escaped a jail term and was instead handed a fine and a 21-month and ten day suspended sentence.
He was then axed from the England squad in a dramatic U-turn – less than six hours after being picked by Gareth Southgate.
Now, according to Sky Sports, the former Leicester star will sit down with United to discuss his role as the team’s leader.
But according to reporter James Cooper, Maguire is expected to KEEP the armband.

⚠️Click here for the latest news on Harry Maguire
He adds: “What I’m told right now is there is no suggestion that Harry Maguire will have the captaincy taken from him.
“Manchester United have been as supportive as any club could possibly be in these circumstances
“There will be conversations ongoing and this matter certainly isn’t closed.

“A lot of it depends on face-to-face chats between Harry Maguire, Manchester United, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ed Woodward.
“Then, perhaps a decision will be made.”
United have already confirmed the player will appeal the sentence and “continues to strongly assert his innocence”.
Maguire released his own brief statement where he declared he and his family are the real victims.
He said: “Following the hearing, I have instructed my legal team with immediate effect to inform the courts we will be appealing.
“I remain strong + confident regarding our innocence in this matter – if anything myself, family + friends are the victims. #MUFC”.
He also posted on Instagram: “Three things cannot be long hidden: the sun, the moon, and the truth – Buddha.”
His brother Joe and pal Chris Sharman, who stood trial alongside him, were given suspended sentences of 13 months after also being found guilty.
The verdicts come after a bombshell one-day trial heard how the brawl between cops and the trio erupted when Maguire’s sister Daisy was “injected with a rape drug”.
One cop required first aid when handcuffed Maguire attempted to break free – as another pal yelled “f**k, f**k the police”.
After they were taken inside a police station, £190,000-a-week Maguire boasted about how “rich” he was as he tried to pay police off, it was said.

He allegedly bragged: “Do you know who I am? I am the captain of Manchester United, I am very rich, I can give you money, I can pay you, please let us go”.
The 27-year-old is then said to have continued boasting about how “very rich” he is, adding: “I am the captain of Manchester United”.
Maguire – who replaced Ashley Young as Manchester United skipper in January – is due to return to competitive action for the Red Devils when their season starts on September 19 against Crystal Palace.

Man Utd target Donny van de Beek awaits Premier League transfer offers with Ajax star likely to leave this summer

MANCHESTER UNITED target Donny van de Beek is expecting Premier League offers as he plots his Ajax exit, according to reports.
The midfielder looks set to leave the Dutch champions this summer.

But the 23-year-old is happy in Holland’s capital and is not fazed by the prospect of staying.
Dutch international Van de Beek was close to agreeing a £47million transfer to Real Madrid before lockdown.
And Ajax director – and former Red Devils goalkeeper – Edwin van der Sar confirmed he could leave for the right price earlier this year.
But offers are expected to come from the Premier League – where Van de Beek would be happy to play, according to Sky Sports News.

Arsenal and Manchester City are both in the market for centre midfielders.
But the Gunners will struggle without the offer of Champions League football.
Van de Beek still has two years left on his contract – which means the Dutch club can still demand a decent fee.
But it is not expected to be as much as the £47m pre-lockdown amount because of the financial impact of coronavirus on clubs.

Ajax want any deal wrapped up before their Eredivisie campaign kicks off against Sparta Rotterdam on September 13.
United were heavily linked with the Dutchman in the January transfer window.

But having since signed Bruno Fernandes and welcomed Paul Pogba back into the fold, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is likely to have priorities elsewhere.
Asked about his future in January, Van de Beek revealed he was in no hurry to leave the Amsterdam side.
He said: “It is not that I can or want to do something at the moment.

“I have said it before, and I will say it again: I will remain at Ajax this season. And maybe next season as well.
“These reports about Real Madrid or Man Utd are a good sign, but it is not important now.
“I’ve said I will stay at Ajax and I will do so for 100 per cent.”

Clearly overwhelmed by meeting his idol, youngster Luke is left on the brink of tears as he and Pogba discuss the idea of one day playing together.
Pogba joked he was left on the verge of crying himself after meeting the budding right-back – who called their chat “so crazy”.
During their chat, Pogba asks if he would play with him or against him.
Despite saying he would “love” to play together, the lad did joke, “I would win” if they ever played on opposite sides, after regaining his composure.

At the end of the sweet clip, Pogba gave Luke a fist-bump.
Meanwhile, Pogba also shared a video of himself getting a fresh trim from hairdressers to the footballing stars, A-Star Barbers.
The French midfielder had a sharp zig-zag shaved into the side of the top of his head ahead of the new season.
And Pogba looks set to stay at Old Trafford for the 2020-21 season despite having been on the brink of quitting last summer for a “new challenge”.

The 27-year-old has just one year left on his deal at the United, leading to reported interest from Real Madrid and Juventus.
There were even rumours that Pogba could be involved in a swap deal with Juventus star Paulo Dybala.
But SunSport exclusively revealed in July how the World Cup winner was to remain at United with the club keen to tie him down for five years.
And now his agent, Mino Raiola, has confirmed Pogba is going nowhere this transfer window, with contract talks set to take place.

Speaking to Sky Sport Italia, he said: “Paul Pogba will stay at Manchester United.
“Pogba is key player for Man Utd, they have an important project and he’s 100 per cent included.
“Man Utd will not accept any bid this summer to sell Pogba.
“We’re going to speak about a new contract soon, no stress.”

Man Utd ‘willing to splurge £153m on Ansu Fati transfer’ before Barcelona hand whizkid new deal with £360m buyout clause

MANCHESTER UNITED are willing to splurge £153MILLION on Ansu Fati before Barcelona hand him a new contract which includes a £360m buyout clause, according to reports.
The Red Devils refused to meet Borussia Dortmund’s £108m valuation of Jadon Sancho earlier this month.

Instead, club chiefs offered around £60m to £70m up front, with the remainder paid in instalments.
But United are rumoured to be willing to pay £45m MORE on Fati, claim Mundo Deportivo.
Still aged just 17, Fati’s stock will only continue to rise after his breakout season at the Nou Camp.
The young winger was quickly placed on Barcelona’s “untouchables” list, along with fellow youngster Riqui Puig.

Three years Sancho’s junior, the pair have very different futures ahead of them.
Sancho is seen as a short-term talent by Borussia Dortmund – who will happily cash in as soon as their £108m valuation is met.
It is now likely Sancho will stay for one more season and will be sold next summer after Man Utd missed the August 10 deadline set by the German giants.

    4

Ansu Fati is being lined up to become the natural successor to Lionel MessiCredit: Getty Images – GettyMeanwhile, Fati is being tipped as being the reincarnation of Lionel Messi.

The 33-year-old club legend shocked the Laliga giants by suggesting he wants to quit the Nou Camp this summer – with Paris Saint-Germain hoping to sign him.
Fati is now being lined up to become Barca’s shining light for the next decade and beyond.
Barcelona are said to be readying a new contract for the young Spaniard in order to tie him down for the long haul.
However, as with all LaLiga players, there WILL be a release clause in his contract.
Desperate to avoid losing Fati, Barca are set to make his release fee nearly DOUBLE the world-record transfer fee – currently the £198m Paris Saint-Germain spent on Neymar – at £360m.

    4

Fati played 33 times in all competitions for Barcelona last season, scoring eight times.
He also earned his first two caps for the Spain Under-21 squad – and has now been named in his first full senior squad, for the opening two games of their 2020-21 Uefa Nations League campaign.
And Man Utd appear to have turned their attention fully to Fati having all-but given up on Sancho.

Five stars Man Utd could sign instead of Jadon Sancho including Kingsley Coman and Douglas Costa as transfer alternative

MANCHESTER UNITED appear to have missed out on signing Borussia Dortmund star Jadon Sancho this summer.
The two clubs failed to agree on a transfer fee before the August 10 deadline set by the Bundesliga giants.

    5

Dortmund insisted on £108million in one lump sum, while Man Utd had hoped to pay just £60m-£70m up front, with the rest paid in instalments.
With Sancho well into the swing of his pre-season training, reports in Germany claim he will stay for at least one more season.
Now Ole Gunnar Solskjaer must look elsewhere to add some much-needed natural width to their attack.
SunSport takes a look at five Sancho alternatives, including Champions League hero Kingsley Coman…

    KINGSLEY COMAN

Kingsley Coman has won 20 trophies despite playing just 193 games
COMAN scored the winner as Bayern Munich beat Paris Saint-Germain in Sunday’s Champions League final.
At just 24, the France winger still has his best years ahead of him and has bags of trophy-winning experience.
Coman has won 20 trophies in just 193 club career games – as well as winning a league title EVERY season and two in just one campaign.

The Bayern star could be just the man to take over the role reserved for Sancho at Old Trafford next season.
    DOUGLAS COSTA

    5

UNITED are claimed to have made a £27m bid for Douglas Costa – but Juventus are holding out for £36m.
The Brazilian winger, 29, is one of SEVEN stars set for the axe at the Serie A champions.
Man Utd have famously chased Costa for years, spanning several managers – and could rekindle their interest in 2020.
But, there are still lingering doubts over his fitness – after Costa nearly retired from football following a spate of injuries.
    JACK GREALISH

UNITED have been heavily-linked with the Aston Villa star – who’s capable of playing on either wing or as a No10.
His versatility could make him arguably a better signing than Sancho.
The latest reports claim United are set to offer Villa Sergio Romero plus cash for Grealish in order to try to get a deal over the line.

    OUSMANE DEMBELE

ONE of many Barcelona big-money flops, Dembele had been tipped with a summer exit.
But Barca president Josep Maria Bartomeu recently named the France star on his seven-strong list of “untouchables”.
However, United are set to test Barcelona’s resolve with a big-money bid – albeit less than the £138m paid by the Spaniards to bring him in from Dortmund.

BOURNEMOUTH recently admitted their whole squad is up for sale following their relegation from the Premier League.
