Man Utd ‘move ahead of Liverpool in Thiago Alcantara transfer race as club holds talks with Bayern Munich star’

MANCHESTER UNITED have reportedly made contact with Thiago Alcantara as they look to beat Liverpool to the signing of the Bayern Munich star.
The 29-year-old, whose contract expires next summer, looks set to depart the Bavarian outfit after seven successful seasons.

It was thought that the Reds were in pole position to land the Spanish midfielder, with a four-year deal said to be on the table.
However they may have to sell Georginio Wijnaldum to raise funds in order to make a move for Thiago.
This has led the Red Devils to emerge as another potential destination for the £27million man.
And in a series of tweets, Norwegian reporter Fredrik A. N. Filtvedt, who works for Dagbladet TV, has stated that United have stepped up their pursuit of the player.

He has claimed that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side are looking to pip Liverpool to Thiago’s signature, but his wage demands could be an issue.
    GO GET HIM
With the club closing in on the signing of Donny van de Beek, United are desperate to bring in another marquee midfielder.
He said: “Hear that United – in addition to Van de Beek – are interested in Thiago.
“Liverpool’s financial situation apparently means that they have to sell before they can buy (Thiago).

“United come late to the party here, but in that sense it is possible to coup Thiago.

    2

“The latest news is that there has been a dialogue between United and Thiago, but that the Spaniard’s wage demands should be too high.”
Thiago joined Bayern from Barcelona in 2013, where he has scored 31 goals in 235 games.
In addition to the Champions League, he has won the Bundesliga title seven times and the German Cup on four occasions.

Marcus Rashford launches food bank task force to try and end UK child poverty as Man Utd star continues charity work

MARCUS RASHFORD is continuing his fight to ensure no child goes hungry by joining forces with supermarkets and food delivery companies.
The Manchester United and England striker was successful in campaigning for free school meal vouchers to be provided to pupils over the summer period.

Marcus Rashford has joined forces with a host of food outlets in the fight against child poverty

    4

The Manchester United moment enjoyed a kickaround with some children
He had spoken about his own experience of using a food voucher scheme as a child and was praised after pressing the Government into making a U-turn on the issue.
Speaking to BBC Breakfast, the 22-year-old said he knew the free school meal vouchers over the summer would not be the end of his fight.
He added: “I think we pretty much knew straight away we had found a short-term solution but that wasn’t going to work in the long run.
“We had to think about how’s the best way to do it so these families can eat long term and not have any issues.”

Rashford has now teamed up with the food industry to shed light on the issue of child food poverty in the UK.
Along with Aldi, Asda, Co-op, Deliveroo, FareShare, Food Foundation, Iceland, Kellogg’s, Lidl, Sainsbury’s, Tesco and Waitrose, he has formed the ‘Child Food Poverty Task Force’.
Rashford said on Twitter that he was “humbled to stand side by side” with them all.
Over the next six weeks, the task force members will dedicate their platforms to sharing stories of those most affected by child food insecurity in the UK.

Rashford said the task force is endorsing three national food strategy policy recommendations.

Marcus Rashford has been praised for his charity work

In a letter to MPs, Rashford said the objective is to “see sufficient funds from the Chancellor’s Budget and Spending Review allocated to implementing these without delay”.
The first one is the expansion of free school meals to every child from a household on Universal Credit or equivalent, reaching an additional 1.5million 7-16-year-olds.
The second one is the expansion of holiday provision (food and activities) to support all children on free school meals, reaching an additional 1.1million children.
And the third one is increasing the value of the Healthy Start vouchers to £4.25 per week, currently at £3.10, and expanding into all those on Universal Credit or equivalent, reaching an additional 290,000 pregnant women and children under the age of four.

In his letter, Rashford wrote: “When we pause, listen and reflect on what the future of our next generation could potentially look like, it’s easy to see that if we don’t take action quickly, the issue of child food poverty will have devastating effects on the stability of our country.
“These children are the future – our next generation of NHS workers, police officers, footballers and politicians.”
Rashford recalls his own experience, writing: “I remember the sound of my mum crying herself to sleep to this day, having worked a 14-hour shift, unsure how she was going to make ends meet.”
He said he has sat with parents who have “cried with sheer relief that putting food on their children’s plates was one less thing to worry about this summer”.

You should feel free if you want to ask for help for anything. Hold your head up high and if you need help go and get help
    Marcus RashfordManchester United footballer

He told MPs: “I spoke to a mother recently who, along with her two young sons, is currently living off three slices of bread a day – soaking them in hot water and adding sugar, hoping that the porridge consistency might better sustain the hunger of her one-year-old child.
“I spoke to a family who were sleeping on one mattress on the floor – the reason being, just like any good parent would, they had had no choice but to sell every valuable they owned to put food on the table for their children.
“All of this, a result of unforeseen circumstances that are entirely out of their control, such as redundancy and illness.
“This is the true reality of England in 2020.”
Rashford stressed the importance of changing attitudes towards asking for help.

What an impressive and inspirational man @MarcusRashford is. Wonderful to see a young footballer use his platform so positively to make a real difference to the lives of so many. Well played. 👏🏻👏🏻
    — Gary Lineker (@GaryLineker) September 1, 2020

He told BBC Breakfast: “I feel like at times people think they are being looked down on if they ask for help.
“You should feel free if you want to ask for help for anything. Hold your head up high and if you need help go and get help.”
Rashford said he had enjoyed meeting families who have benefitted from the children food voucher scheme.
He added: “Just to see the smiles on their faces and to see how much it’s helped them, you know, made me happy.
“It was good to see the parents laughing and smiling.”
Rashford, alongside the words “If ever there was a question of why… #ENDCHILDFOODPOVERTY”, later added another video on Twitter of a teacher recalling a 12-year-old pupil falling asleep in lessons because she was using her free school meal allowance to feed her younger siblings.
Former England captain Gary Lineker was quick to praise Rashford for his latest mission.
The Match of the Day host posted on Twitter: “What an impressive and inspirational man @MarcusRashford is. Wonderful to see a young footballer use his platform so positively to make a real difference to the lives of so many. Well played.”

Van de Beek has completed a medical ahead of his impending switch, with United set to announce his arrival imminently.
And according to The Athletic, he was persuaded to sign for the club after a phone call with Solskjaer.
They claim he left the conversation convinced that his future lies at the Theatre of Dreams.
It has been stated that van de Beek was excited at where the Norwegian gaffer sees his role in the side.

The United boss allegedly told the 23-year-old that he will be playing alongside Paul Pogba and Bruno Fernandes in an ultra-attack minded midfield.
But in a blow for van de Beek, he looks set to miss out on his favourite No6 shirt, with that number belonging to the French World Cup winner.
Van de Beek’s transfer has got the seal of approval by Marcus Rashford who “liked” a tweet about the player.
And the midfielder’s dad has expressed his joy that his son is set to link up with one of the world’s biggest clubs.

Speaking to omroepgelderland.nl, proud father Andre said: “This is a dream come true.
“It’s the perfect moment for him to make this step to such a beautiful club.
“Many clubs were interested, but Donny decides himself.”

They met in Amsterdam and a relationship between the pair soon blossomed.
And now it looks like she could be joining Donny in Manchester.
    EARLY YEARS IN LONDON
Bergkamp was one year into his Arsenal career, when he welcomed Estelle into the world with wife Henrita.

She was born in London, where Dennis would stay for 11 years and win three Premier League titles with the Gunners.
In fact, when she was a small girl she joined her dad on the pitch at Highbury and was snapped holding the Premier League trophy.
Football has always been in her family, so it was no surprise that she would soon start dating a footballer.

Man Utd to go all out for Dayot Upamecano after landing Donny van de Beek in £40m transfer from Ajax

MANCHESTER UNITED are reportedly ready to bring Dayot Upamecano to Old Trafford once they wrap up the signing of Donny van de Beek.
The Red Devils are known to be admirers of the RB Leipzig centre-back, with the club understood to be scouting the 21-year-old.

Upamecano has no shortage of suitors with the likes of Arsenal and Real Madrid also interested in the French youth international.
The defender signed a new deal with the Bundesliga outfit last month, with it claimed that he has a £40million release clause that can be activated next summer.
But according to ESPN, United are keen to secure his services ahead of the new Premier League season.
They state that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is desperate to bolster his backline, and has identified Upamecano as the perfect partner for Harry Maguire.

Even though Leipzig are unwilling to part ways with the ex-Red Bull Salzburg man, United are said to be hopeful that a deal can be struck.
And with the likes of Phil Jones, Marcos Rojo and Chris Smalling to potentially leave, Solskjaer has highlighted a centre-back as a top priority.
United are looking to press ahead with a move for Upamecano once they complete the signing of Van de Beek from Ajax.

Donny van de Beek to be denied favourite shirt number at Man Utd but transfer could see him take on cursed No7

INCOMING Manchester United signing Donny van de Beek will be denied his favourite shirt number when he joins from Ajax.
The 23-year-old midfielder is closing in on a five-year deal at Old Trafford after the Red Devils agreed a £40million fee with the Eredivisie side.

It is understood that the player is now set to undergo a medical with United this week.
And the potential signing got the seal of approval by Marcus Rashford who “liked” a tweet about the Dutch international.
In a minor blow for van de Beek, he will be unable to wear his favourite No6 jersey at the Theatre of Dreams.
That is because that number is occupied by Paul Pogba, and the Frenchman will not be departing this summer.

The player’s agent Mino Raiola revealed last week that the Frenchman is set for contract talks at United.
One potential number that is available to van de Beek is the cursed No7, which was most recently used by Alexis Sanchez.
But that number is likely being reserved for Borussia Dortmund star Jadon Sancho.

Despite BVB insisting the English international will remain at the club, the winger is still Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s No1 target this summer.
The No11 shirt is also unused at United, though that number isn’t traditional for a central midfielder.
Van de Beek also has the No 19, 27, 28 and 30 shirts to choose from.

Man Utd transfer target van de Beek was spotted by Arsenal legend Bergkamp at 10, but his mum wanted him to be a farmer

AJAX sensation Donny van de Beek is on the verge of a £40million move to Manchester United, according to reports.
The Dutch attacking midfielder, who was once close to joining Real Madrid, has enjoyed a meteoric rise in the game, and was a vital cog in the side that reached the Champions League semi-finals in 2019.

    5

Bergkamp coached van de Beek when he was 10
Last season he continued where he left off from the campaign before that, scoring 10 times in 37 games.
One of his standout performances came in a 4-4 draw at Stamford Bridge, where he scored in the Champions League group tie.
And the 23-year-old would be the first to admit that he couldn’t have done it without his mentor, Dennis Bergkamp.
The Arsenal legend spotted the future star’s potential when he was youth coach with the Eredivisie giants – and Van de Beek was just 10.

Bergkamp helped mould the playmaker into the player he is today.
But, if his mum had it her way, he would most likely being working on a farm.
    THE BOY DON GOOD
Former Ajax boss Frank de Boer, who promoted Bergkamp as his assistant, once said: “Dennis started talking enthusiastically about a talent in his youth team.
“It was a boy who reminded Dennis of himself at that age.

“That was the signal for me to keep an eye on that guy. That was Donny.”
Ruben Jongkind, a former head of talent development at the Ajax academy, also recalled Bergkamp’s glowing endorsement.
Jongkind told the Daily Mail: “Bergkamp was the one who saw when he was 10, ‘This is going to be a great player.’
“I said, “I didn’t see it, how did you know?”‘

    A FARM HAND
Today, Van de Beek might be one of Europe’s biggest talents. However, if his mum Gerdina had it her way he would be a farmer.
The Holland international is from Nijkerk, an area of the Netherlands that’s more famous for agriculture and farming than producing cultured midfielders.
And as a boy he lived on a farm, often helping out with daily chores including making sure live stock were fed.
Gerdina wasn’t a fan of sport, and seeing her son climbing trees instead of playing with a ball made her think he was destined for rearing cattle instead of gracing the Johan Cruyff arena.
But father Andre had other ideas, and he signed his son up to play for Veensche Boys.
“After the first training session, he was completely sold and the ball never disappeared from his life,” Andre told AjaxShowtime in 2016.
By the time he was 10, Van de Beek had clubs including Utrecht, Feyenoord and PSV clamouring to sign him.
He chose Ajax because his family had season tickets with the club.

    HE NEEDED STRENGTH
Immediately, when he arrived at the academy Jongkind knew where Van de Beek had to improve.
“We put him under a system of pretty rigorous physical training. He needed that. He came from farmers,” the youth coach said.
“That area of Holland has pretty strong farmers there. But he needed to transfer that to the field.
“He was benefiting from the performance department a lot. We got in people from American Football and from Judo.”
    A CRUYFF TURN
Dad Andre knew Van de Beek was destined for stardom, when his own footballing idol told him how good a player his son was.
The ambitious father was rendered speechless when Ajax legend Johan Cruyff told him in a meeting about the player’s qualities.

“Johan said: ‘I know your son, yes,'” Andre revealed.
“That is Donny Van de Beek,”He is good at this and good at that…
“He was able to tell everything. Do you know how strange it is that your idol knows everything about your son? He was able to tell everything down to the smallest detail.”

Man Utd close to sealing Donny van de Beek transfer with rivals way short of Ajax’s £50m valuation

MANCHESTER UNITED boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is close to landing Ajax midfielder Donny van de Beek for £40million.
The 23-year-old missed Saturday’s friendly with Eintracht Frankfurt with coach Erik ten Hag suggesting there were developments, saying: “We are looking at how that will end.”

    2

Man Utd are close to signing Donny van de Beek for £40m

    2

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer thinks Van de Beek is perfect for his team
Former United No 1 Edwin van der Sar, now director of football at Ajax, revealed his old club’s interest back in June.
And Solskjaer believes he is the right kind of signing in terms of profile and cost for what is a very difficult transfer window.
Dutch reports claim Van de Beek has told pals he wants to join United and the Prem side are leading the way with no other club offering anywhere near the £40m mark.
Van der Sar is already on record as saying the Dutch giants will not sell on the cheap — despite the economic impact of the coronavirus pandemic.

Real Madrid were on the verge of landing Van de Beek for around £49m last summer but the deal fell through.
Other clubs have shown interest in Van de Beek but United are now strong favourites to land him.

New Barcelona coach Ronald Koeman knows him well from his time in charge of the national team — but is not currently planning a move with the financial strain on LaLiga clubs.
Van de Beek was a shining light as Ajax made it all the way to the semi-finals of the Champions League in 2019 — before losing out to Tottenham in heart-breaking fashion on away goals.

The box-to-box style player scored ten goals from midfield last term and is seen as the perfect foil for Paul Pogba and Bruno Fernandes by Solskjaer.
