Mason Greenwood arrives back at Man Utd training for crunch talks with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer after England Covid shame

MASON GREENWOOD has been spotted arriving at Manchester United’s Carrington HQ for talks with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
The forward, 18, and England team-mate Phil Foden, 20, were sent home after breaking coronavirus restrictions by inviting women into their Icelandic hotel.

Both the United and Man City ace have since issued grovelling apologies, with the FA launching an investigation into the incident that led to both being fined £1360 by police for breaking lockdown rules.
The two clubs have also condemned the actions of their respective players with both Solskjaer and City’s Pep Guardiola due to dish out a stern talking to the talented duo.
And Greenwood’s could already have taken place as he reported back for club duty earlier today.
Solskjaer will speak with Greenwood over his responsibilities and the public embarrassment caused by the incident but he and the club are also determined to protect him.

And the Norwegian is believed to be focusing his chat with Greenwood on the emphasis of learning a lesson from the first controversy of his career.
Greenwood has had to undergo a Covid risk assessment to determine when he can rejoin his team-mates following his infamous trip with England.
Foden has not returned to City training yet, with Guardiola’s side not kicking off the campaign until September 21 against Wolves.
United begin their campaign two days earlier versus Crystal Palace.

Both men made their senior international debuts in the win over Iceland on Saturday but were denied an opportunity for a second cap after it emerged they snuck two girls into the England hotel.
A video surfaced online of the Icelandic girls, one being 20-year-old model Nadia Sif Lindal Gunnarsdottir, asking the players how they would sneak them in.

Further footage then showed the pair with Nadia and her cousin Lara Clausen, a 19-year-old law student.
One of the girls has apologised for her part in the incident, saying she felt “really, really, really bad” but also described the duo as “gentleman”.
Foden became a dad at 18 and has a long-term girlfriend, while Greenwood broke up with his model girlfriend back in May.

Real Madrid ‘will pay HALF of Gareth Bale’s £600,000-a-week wages to seal transfer away’ putting Man Utd on red alert

REAL MADRID are reportedly willing to cover HALF of Gareth Bale’s £600k-a-week wages to ensure he leaves this summer.
The wantaway Welshman publicly criticised Los Blancos for “making it very difficult” for him to leave earlier this month.

    1

Real Madrid are willing to pay half of Gareth Bale’s £600k-a-week wages to seal his exit from the club
But this latest news could pave the way for a summer exit putting long time admirers Manchester United on red alert.
It emerged yesterday the Spanish giants are willing to accept just £22million for their out of favour winger.
And now Real are willing to take another financial hit in order to get the ex-Tottenham man off their books, according to Spanish outlet AS.

Both United and Spurs had their ears pricked when Bale lifted the lid on his Bernabeu turmoil while on Wales duty.
The 31-year-old has grown increasingly frustrated in the Spanish capital, managing only 14 starts last season.
And manager Zinedine Zidane and the Bernabeu board are now willing to let him leave.
It is understood Bale is willing to take a pay cut on order to make a move happen.

United are in the market for a wideman, having so far failed to meet Borussia Dortmund’s £109m asking price for 20-year-old Jadon Sancho.

Four Premier League teams crack the top ten highest wage bills in Europe

Bale was close to sealing a move to China last summer, until Madrid blocked the transfer at the last minute.
He told Sky Sports last week: “There have been other instances where we have tried to go but the club won’t allow it or they have done something.
“What can I say? I want to play football. I am still motivated to play football so I guess it is on the club really.
“I can’t do anything, they are in control of everything
“I have a contract so all I can do is carry on what I am doing an hopefully something comes up.
“It is in the club’s hands and they have made things very difficult to be honest.”

Man Utd boss Solskjaer admits club don’t have ‘new millions’ as Dortmund hold firm over Jadon Sancho fee

OLE GUNNAR SOLSKJAER admits Manchester United do not have “new millions” as Borussia Dortmund stand firm over Jadon Sancho’s fee.
SunSport told you on September 2 that the England winger has already reached an agreement with United over wages.

It has now emerged the Red Devils have made some progress negotiating agent fees.
However, Solskaer’s side remain locked in talks with Dortmund over a transfer fee after having an initial bid of £70million – rising to £110m in bonuses – rejected.
United, who have only brought in £39m midfielder Donny van de Beek from Ajax this summer so far, have not given up on Sancho.
And after being quizzed by Radio Five Live whether he would be OK without any further additions, he appeared to warn the Bundesliga outfit his side will not be held to ransom over the 20-year-old.

Solskjaer said: “I am very happy working with these players and the squad.
“We always trying to improve and to see if there’s any way possible that we can improve this squad and bring players in that will have the right level of quality and the right personality and have all the right criteria.
“We all know this summer and this year has been a very strange one and it’s important that everyone understands that this has an effect on football and not everyone can spend millions and millions, and new millions.”
The Norwegian added: “It’s never easy to have too many new players in the team, it takes time for players to gel into units.

“We have seen some clubs go for the quick fix and get players in, some have trust in the process and the continuation of the process and the coaching.
“We will have to get the results, our response has to be about improving, getting the results but also adding players with different qualities than we have, things that we need.
“When we signed Bruno, we knew we needed that type of player. Now we have signed Donny and he is the type of player that I felt we needed.
“He is the type of person who will fit the culture, and the team and will improve us for next season and for years to come.”
United remain keen on signing a new centre-back, with RB Leipzig’s Dayot Upamecano in Solskjaer’s sights.
He would also like a left-back, with Real Madrid’s Sergio Reguilon eyed after an impressive loan at Sevilla.
United had been looking at Porto’s Alex Telles too, but it’s believed Wolves are closing in on a deal for the Brazilian.

Man Utd will come back stronger from Harry Maguire and Mason Greenwood incidents, claims Gary Neville

CANTONA’S kung-fu kick ban, Beckham’s Simeone scythe, Ronaldo’s wink after Rooney’s red . . . Manchester United have had crises aplenty and usually come back stronger.
And that is what Gary Neville is expecting this season after Harry Maguire’s run-in with the Greek law and Mason Greenwood being sent home by England after inviting girls into their Icelandic hotel.

    4

Captain Maguire was found guilty of a number of charges following his encounter with plain-clothes cops on the party island of Mykonos last month.
He was handed a suspended sentence of 21 months and ten days, but Maguire is appealing and has vowed to clear his name.
Yet United legend Neville believes these incidents  can galvanise the Red Devils squad.
The Sky Sports pundit said: “These moments can invigorate the squad and bring them together. They can create a spirit when you think everyone is against you and you think you are being criticised.

“I think of the big moments at Manchester United — Eric Cantona’s return season or David Beckham coming back from a World Cup when there was high pressure.
“The Wayne Rooney-Cristiano Ronaldo thing was a huge  incident, well beyond the Harry Maguire incident.
“It was a national thing, two great players, but they went on to win the Champions League and Premier Leagues together.”
The Maguire and Greenwood episodes have come in a difficult summer for United that also included Paul Pogba testing positive for Covid-19 and frustrations in the transfer market.

Donny van de Beek remains the only new recruit while negotiations for top target Jadon Sancho continue to drag on.
Neville is disappointed his old side has as yet failed to capitalise on their Champions League qualification with more summer business.
He feels boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side need at least another “four” new faces on top of Van de Beek, including a centre-back, centre-forward, right-winger and, potentially, a new left-back.

The former England star added: “To get all that business done now is going to become incredibly difficult, so I’m disappointed.
“They seem to have a real struggle to get deals over the line. That seems to happen year in, year out.
“Sancho is now dragging out beyond belief.”
Solskjaer guided United to a third-placed finish last term, sealing a return to the Champions League.
It signified progress but the gap to champions Liverpool was still  33 points — and 15 to second-placed Manchester City.
Semi-final defeats in the FA Cup, EFL Cup and Europa League meant no silverware going to Old Trafford.

Asked what success would be for United this season, Neville replied: “A trophy and breaking that top two has to be the next step.
“Finishing third was a big moment for Ole, it was really important to him because that’s progression.
“He has to look to break that top two and that’s going to be difficult.
“He needs more players and support from the board to do that.”

Victor Osimhen snubbed Man Utd transfer as he ‘has too much respect for fellow Nigerian Ighalo to compete for his place’

VICTOR OSIMHEN reportedly rejected Manchester United before joining Napoli because of Odion Ighalo.
The 21-year-old forward moved to the Italians in a £54million move from Lille this summer.

But his brother, Andrew Osimhen, claims the Red Devils also wanted him but he had no interest because of his respect for his fellow Nigerian.
Andrew told Complete Sports: “It is very true that Manchester United wanted Victor but he told me something like he had too much respect for Odion Ighalo to be competing for shirts with his senior colleague.
“My brother holds Ighalo in high esteem and he just didn’t see himself going to Old Trafford to battle for a striking role with the highest goalscorer at the 2019 AFCON in Egypt.”
Osimhen has scored four goals in nine games for his country since his debut three years ago and featured alongside the ex-Watford man several times.

United were desperate for striking reinforcements back in January.
They managed to secure a last-minute deal before the deadline to bring in Ighalo, 31, on loan from Shanghai Shenhua.

That move has since been extended until January 2021 after the ace struck five times for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side.
Osimhen was linked with both Tottenham and Liverpool before Napoli eventually clinched his signing.

He scored an eight-minute hat-trick during their recent pre-season friendly against L’Aquila.

Top ten stars who earned most sitting on bench last year with Man Utd’s Romero bagging £3.6m and Hart getting £2.3m

PREMIER LEAGUE stars earn more money than most people could spend and some of them bag millions without even playing.
Manchester United’s Sergio Romero tops the list of last season’s highest earning bench warmers.

    1

The Premier League’s highest paid benchwarmers in 2019-20
And Tottenham’s new signing Joe Hart comes in second where his £45,000-a-week wages at Burnley last season saw him bag £2,340,000 without playing a single Premier League minute.
Here SunSport reveals OLBG data showing the top ten highest earners who didn’t play at all in the Prem during the 2019-20 campaign.
    1. SERGIO ROMERO
Manchester United’s No2 goalkeeper featured heavily in their charge to the Europa League semi-finals as well as their other cup games.
But his £70k-a-week wages saw him pocket £3.64m despite not playing a single minute in the Prem.

    2. JOE HART
Ex-Manchester City keeper Hart warmed the bench at Turf Moor last season with the Lancashire club funnelling him £45k-a-week for his services.
Having picked up £2.34m for the year at Burnley, the 33-year-old has recently signed a deal at Spurs but with Hugo Lloris in front of him top flight game time will be equally hard to come by.
    3. JOSE IZQUIERDO
Brighton’s Colombian left-back suffered a severe knee injury in May 2019 which saw him out until last month.

His £45k-a-week earnings also saw him net £2.34m while on the Seagulls’ treatment table.

Four Premier League teams crack the top ten highest wage bills in Europe

    4. ARTUR BORUC
Bournemouth’s Polish stopper made the bench for each and every one of the Cherries’ relegation campaign.
But he was still paid £40k-a-week to be backup to Sheffield United’s new keeper Aaron Ramsdale.
    5. BEN GIBSON
Gibson has now moved to Championship side Norwich after failing to register a Premier League minute under Sean Dyche last season.
But the £2.08m he earned will have made his Clarets freeze out easier to swallow.
    6. CUCO MARTINA
The barely known 30-year-old right-back made the bench just three times at Everton last season but still took home £35k-a-week for his troubles.
    7. JOHN RUDDY
Wolves’ backup keeper found the excellent Rui Patricio an immovable object at Molineux but was paid £1.82m to provide competition for the year.
    8. HENRI SAIVET
    Who?
Me neither. The £35k-a-week Senegalese hasn’t even been in a Newcastle squad since December 2017 when he scored against West Ham.
    9. HEURELHO GOMES
Former Watford keeper Gomes is now without a club but Ben Foster’s understudy at the relegated hornets is £1.82m better off for the experience.
    10. LEE GRANT
Red Devils goalie Grant has played just twice for United’s first team since his 2018 switch from Stoke and never in the Premier League.
He is paid £30k-a-week to be No3 at United and could even be FOURTH choice this season with David De Gea, Dean Henderson and Romero on the books.

Man Utd new boy Donny van de Beek given hero’s send-off by Ajax fans with flares and banners on Amsterdam streets

MANCHESTER UNITED’S new signing Donny van de Beek was given a hero’s send off by raucous Ajax fans armed with flares.
The Dutchman was mobbed by supporters who surrounded him and bellowed his name on the streets of Amsterdam.

Supporters gathered in the streets with flares
The Red Devils signed the 23-year-old for £39million last week.
And United legend – and now Ajax CEO – Edwin van der Sar bid a fond farewell to the midfielder in a personal letter to United fans.
Van de Beek is held in high regard in Holland.
And Ajax supporters clearly feel the same as hundreds of them gathered to wish him well before he moves to England.

Footage shows Van de Beek stood outside his car as fans sang his name and held red flares aloft.
Despite the feel good factor surrounding the midfielder’s signing, ex-United striker Dimitar Berbatov has issued a warning.
The Bulgarian reckons United’s midfield may now be too crowded and they should focus on defensive reinforcements.
“It’s getting crowded in the midfield department but that’s a good thing because competition is always healthy.

“They will get the best out of each other.
“There is going to be Paul Pogba, him and Bruno Fernandes – that is exciting.

Champions League giants facing huge cash crisis with Uefa taking £530m off prize money in blow to Man Utd and Chelsea

EUROPEAN football faces a cash ‘crisis’ which will last for two years.
Clubs face being hit by a triple whammy of no gate income, reduced TV money and sponsors demanding lower value deals.

    1

Juventus president Andrea Agnelli has issued a stark warning to Europe’s top clubs
And Europe’s biggest sides including Liverpool, Manchester United and Manchester City will also be hit by a £530million cut in Uefa prize money for the Champions League and Europa League.
The gloomy forecast was given by Juventus president Andrea Agnelli.
Agnell told an audience of Europe’s biggest clubs that the real price of the Covid-19 pandemic has still to be paid.

Speaking at the opening of the virtual general assembly of the European Club Association, Agnelli said: “None of us could have imagined what we have had to live with over recent months.
“Now we are looking at a top revenue decrease of approximately £3.6billion in the next two years.
“According to Fifa, 90 per cent of those top line losses will be borne by clubs.
“I don’t believe we will have a full scope of what this means to us until we have the first set of accounts published this autumn.

“But we do have a set of facts which we have to face.

Four Premier League teams crack the top ten highest wage bills in Europe

“Playing in empty stadiums has meant the complete wipeout of a very important source of revenue for everyone.
“Irrespective of whether we are a top club, medium club, or small club, we all have stadiums and we have receipts which have been pretty much wiped out.
“You have seen very important rebates for the broadcasters both at domestic level at international level.
“We have seen the £330m rebate in the Premier League and a drop of about £180m in the Bundesliga’s domestic rights.
“Now we are in the process of finalising the accounts with Uefa with a reduction of around £519m for international club competitions.
“That is all money which is not going to be distributed.”
Uefa had planned to distribute £2.31billion across its club competitions last term, with the rebate potentially costing Liverpool, City, United, Chelsea and Spurs up to £20m each over two seasons.
And Agnelli warned that was just the start of a financial nightmare across Europe, with the biggest clubs most at risk.

He added: “No gate receipts plus rebates for broadcasters will mean that sponsors will ask for rebates themselves because we are not in a position to deliver some of the rights we have promised in the first place.
“And no matter which industry they are operating in, all our sponsors are living in the same pandemic.
“It is going to be difficult to imagine we are going to see the same values of the sponsors coming in when we renew our current deals with them, whether it be shirt sponsors or secondary sponsors.
“I am quite sure we are going to see a rebate on this and this will fall into the transfer market.
“There are estimates which say we are going to see the shrinking of evaluations and therefore of the value of the transfer market of 20 to 30 per cent.
“That is evidently less money circulating.
“This is going to be dramatic for all of us which will turn out to be potentially a cash crisis for most of the clubs.
“We will have to be very careful in how we manage this season and next.
“This is where we really stand. We have seen a dramatic drop in revenues and a dramatic drop in club revenues.
“I have the fear that some of the big clubs will probably suffer losses that are bigger than entire federations or confederations across the world.”
