Premier League matchday income revealed with Man Utd set to lose out on £111m a season with no fans due to coronavirus

MANCHESTER UNITED could miss out on a staggering £111million in matchday income this season if fans are forced to stay away from Old Trafford.
Football fans were dealt a bitter blow on Tuesday after the Government announced they had “paused” plans to allow supporters back into stadiums to reduce the spread of coronavirus.

    2

Premier League clubs could lose a huge amount with games played behind closed doors

But clubs will be even more frustrated, with some top-flight sides missing out on over £3m for every match behind closed doors.
The most-recent figures regarding matchday income are from the 2018-19 season.
And they show that the current Premier League teams made a combined £692.5m solely from their home games in 2018-19.
Man Utd led the way with £110.8m made from Old Trafford games in 2018-19.

Arsenal, Liverpool and Tottenham all raked in over £80m that season from home games.
The Gunners cashed in £96.2m from Emirates matches, while the Reds and Spurs pocketed £84.2m and £81.7m respectively.
Chelsea (£66.6m) and Manchester City (£56m) were the only other two teams to make over £50m from matchday income two seasons ago.
But even last-placed team in terms of matchday income – Sheffield United, then in the Championship – made close to £6m.

    2

Liverpool boast the most valuable squad in world football

All in all, the current top 20 clubs in England raked in close to £700m.
With inflation on things such as ticket costs, food and drinks, that number COULD have been even higher in 2019-20.
But even if the entire season isn’t played behind closed doors, clubs will still be hit hard in the meantime.
United, for example, made £4.3m per matchday in 2018-19, with Arsenal, Liverpool and Spurs all over the £3m per home game barrier.
Overall, Premier League clubs are collectively set to lose £26.6m per home game played without fans.

Man Utd outcast Jesse Lingard wanted by Zenit St Petersburg in shock summer transfer with Tottenham also interested

JESSE LINGARD has emerged as a shock transfer target for Zenit St Petersburg – with Tottenham also interested.
The Manchester United star, 27, has slipped down the pecking order at Old Trafford since the January signing of Bruno Fernandes and summer move for Donny van de Beek.

A host of clubs are thought to be interested, with Russian giants Zenit just the latest, according to ESPN.
Lingard has seen his career stall somewhat in the past two seasons since his starring role at the 2018 World Cup.
The versatile star has struggled for game time and form under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and has not started a Premier League match since January.
Many reports even suggested Lingard was left fuming after being left out of the squad for the 3-1 defeat at home to Crystal Palace.

Tottenham quickly emerged as a potential landing spot for the Three Lions ace in a surprise reunion with Jose Mourinho.
However, SunSport earlier revealed Man Utd could yet offer Lingard a one-year contract extension.
It’s believed United want to tie Lingard – out of contract at the end of the season – to a new deal in order to drive up his transfer fee.
Man Utd are hoping to command a £30million fee.

He could be sold before the window closes in early October, if a suitable offer comes in.
But the £100,000 a week ace is determined to fight for his spot, despite being way down the pecking order.
Lingard – who came through the Old Trafford academy – has kept himself in impressive shape over the off-season ahead of any possible move.

Man Utd considering handing Jesse Lingard shock deal by triggering one-year option to keep £25m transfer value

MANCHESTER UNITED are considering handing Jesse Lingard a shock new deal – by triggering his one-year option.
The midfielder, 27, is out of contract next summer, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer considering offloading him.

The England ace has been eyed by a number of Premier League clubs, including Everton and West Ham.
Lingard has also been strongly linked with Tottenham.
But United are looking to extend his contract by a further 12 months, to make sure his market value of £25million is kept.
SunSport understands Old Trafford chiefs are planning to exercise their option within the next few weeks.

Lingard is sweating over his Red Devils future, with Solskjaer leaving him out of the squad for Saturday’s defeat to Palace and apparently not having him in his first-team plans this season.
He could be sold before the window closes in early October, if a suitable offer comes in.
But the £100,000 a week ace is determined to fight for his spot, despite being way down the pecking order.

United have huge competition in midfield with Paul Pogba, Donny van de Beek and Bruno Fernandes among others already in the squad.

Lingard – who came through the Old Trafford academy – has kept himself in impressive shape over the off-season.
Meanwhile, a number of European clubs have had a look at bringing him in, including sides in Serie A.
He made 22 appearances in the Premier League in the last campaign, but the majority were from the bench.

That deal meant the combined transfer value – not fee – of the Premier League winners’ squad was nearly £1billion, according to Transfermarkt.
Incredibly, Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool are worth over £50m MORE than big-spending Manchester City.
Two Kop stars are worth more than £100m each – with Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane both rated at £108m.
Trent Alexander-Arnold is worth £99m, with FIVE further players worth £50m or more.

Meanwhile, the Man City squad is worth £933m – putting them above Barcelona at £910m, in third.
Chelsea come in fourth – ensuring three Premier League clubs occupied the top four spots.
The Blues’ squad is now worth a sky-high £826m after bringing in seven new faces this summer, including Kai Havertz, Timo Werner and Ben Chilwell.

Manchester United are only at seventh in the table at £719.5m – nearly £300m behind Liverpool.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side sit below Real Madrid (£790m) and Bayern Munich (£754m) in the standings.
Tottenham (£697m) complete the top ten, behind Paris Saint-Germain (£706m) and Atletico Madrid (£702m).
Elsewhere in the top 20, Arsenal (£583m) sit 13th, with Everton (£442m) in 16th and Leicster (£415m) in 18th.

Man Utd stars arrive at Manchester airport to fly to Luton for Carabao Cup clash after Solskjaer warns them to step up

MANCHESTER UNITED stars arrived at Manchester airport on Tuesday morning ahead of their flight to Luton and on the back of a stern warning from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
The Red Devils boss was left frustrated by his side’s appalling showing in the 3-1 defeat at home to Crystal Palace at the weekend – their first Premier League game of the season.

And, as his players arrived at Manchester Airport, he urged them to show more intensity ahead of their Carabao Cup third-round clash at Kenilworth Road.
On the weekend defeat, the Old Trafford chief told the Man Utd website: “I don’t think it was a good watch.
“I didn’t like it then and, as I said, we didn’t come out of the traps quickly enough and they did.
“They looked sharper than us, fitter than us and they deserved the points.

“We didn’t do enough to earn the right and you have got to earn the right in a Premier League match.”
Solskjaer continued by saying he believes Luton will provide a stern test – but will ring the changes to get his whole squad up to match fitness.
The boss added: “[Luton] have started really well and finished last season really well, as well.
“They have, of course, beaten Norwich and Reading to get there in the cup and beaten Barnsley and Derby in the league as well.

How Man Utd could line up for their game against Luton

“It’s a team with confidence and they’re playing Man Utd, of course it will be a big game for them.
“But it’s a big game for our players, the ones who get a chance, as they need to show they are ready to be called upon.
“They’re a team that’s direct with high intensity, aggressive and, of course, strong set-plays.
“You worry when you play teams with centre-backs that are, well, a bigger size than me anyway.”
Solskjaer continued: “We’ll make some changes… for some, it’s the pre-season and some have only been here for a week now, for different reasons.
“Some of them need game-time, they do and we can see we’re lacking in sharpness.
“We’ll rotate and give some minutes. Some will do some harder training this week to get ready for Brighton.”

Man Utd will stick with Maguire and Lindelof partnership and won’t change transfer policy despite nightmare start

MANCHESTER UNITED ‘have no plans’ to sign a new centre-half despite their defensive horror-show in the 3-1 home defeat to Crystal Palace.
Captain Harry Maguire was partnered by Victor Lindelof at the back, but both looked well off the pace as the Eagles romped to victory.

United reject Wilfried Zaha in particular gave Lindelof a torrid time and helped himself to two goals.
Even Maguire looked low on confidence after a tough summer that saw him arrested and charged for his part in a brawl on his holidays in Mykonos.
He has appealed the suspended sentence handed out to him by the Greek courts.
But according to The Athletic, boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is not planning on bringing in another centre-back in the transfer window.

That means the likes of Phil Jones, Eric Bailly, Marcos Rojo and Axel Tuanzebe will be the back-up for the current first-choice pair.
After the miserable loss in their season opener, United gaffer Solskjaer refused to blame the lack of transfer activity on their shock defeat.
He said: “We are always looking to improve if there is something available at the right price.
“You can see we are short and they deserved the points. They were sharper than us in challenges, tackles.

“If you look at the players we have on the pitch and on the bench and not here we have to look within first and know we can perform better.
“It was an off day, everyone knows they can improve and we will improve.”
Even defender Luke Shaw called on the club to sign some more players after the home defeat.
Shaw said: “We are a very good group, but personally I think we need more players to strengthen the squad.
“It can give us a boost. When you look around at how other teams are strengthening their teams, then we must also do it to keep up with the others.”
The Red Devils are still in the hunt for Borussia Dortmund ace Jadon Sancho, and are reportedly close to snapping up Porto left-back Alex Telles.

Man Utd target Alex Telles tells Porto fans he is not distracted by transfer talk after scoring twice against Braga

PORTO left-back Alex Telles has insisted he isn’t distracted by transfer talk amid interest from Manchester United.
The 27-year-old – who has been at the club since 2016 – has been heavily linked with a switch to Old Trafford on a five-year deal.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side are back in for the Brazilian defender having missed out on Sergio Reguillon to Tottenham.
A fee of around £18million has been rumoured to be the price Porto are willing to do business at.
Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano has revealed that United have been in contact with Telles’ agent, with the player to push to leave.
He tweeted on Saturday: “Manchester United priority: left back and right winger. Possible also a CB.

“Tonight #MUFC have been in contact again with Alex Telles agents. He will push to leave Porto on next few days. Man Utd are monitoring and considering an opening bid.”
But Telles has insisted that he is only focusing on his future at Porto after scoring twice for the club in the 3-1 win against Braga.
The ex-Inter Milan loanee told Sport TV: “I’m a guy who focuses a lot on work, people believe what they want, say what they want in the newspapers, but the most important thing is to be focused on my work.
“You know that and so do my teammates, whatever happens, I’m focused on the club, I’m here, I’m playing.”

Asked if he was close to leaving, he added: “I have people who work for me, I just have to focus on what my job is.
