United’s misery was compounded by Anthony Martial getting a straight red on 28 minutes for slapping Spurs midfielder Erik Lamela.
After the game defender Luke Shaw admitted the team ‘gave up’ when Martial was sent off, and said he was ’embarrassed’ to be on the pitch.
Now Rashford, who barely had a sniff all game, uploaded an apology onto Twitter.
The 22-year-old wrote: “First and foremost I’m a United fan

“This is my club. I’m so proud to wear this shirt but there are no excuses, it’s just not good enough.
And to every single fans around the world that tuned in today, I’m just so sorry.
“You deserve so much better than that.
“I would have stayed away from social media tonight but you deserve to hear from me during the highs and the lows, there is no hiding.

After the game, United legend Gary Neville pulled no punches in a damning assessment, blasting the players as ‘spineless’ and ‘absolutely pathetic’.
The defending was calamitous and the lack of leadership was evident as former boss Jose Mourinho got one over on his former employers in emphatic style.
Neville, who was analysing the game on Sky Sports, was fuming at the manner of defeat and says there is “no excuse” for that performance.
The 45-year-old told Sky Sports: “I can’t believe we are where we are.
“There’s no excuse for those players on that pitch because they were absolutely pathetic. Spineless in that second half.

Luke Shaw admits Man Utd GAVE UP after 28 minutes of Spurs humiliation as Gary Neville slams ‘spineless’ flops

MANCHESTER UNITED defender Luke Shaw admits the team “gave up” after just 28 minutes against Tottenham when Anthony Martial was sent off.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side were only 2-1 down at that point when Martial receievd his marching orders for slapping Erik Lamela.

But the Red Devils completely imploded to be on the end of a 6-1 thrashing.
And speaking after the humiliation, left-back Shaw said he was ’embarrassed’ to be on the pitch and said the team had ‘no character’.
The 25-year-old told Sky Sports: “It was a lack of concentration and then a mistake, another mistake, another mistake.
“We switched off. It really hurts.

“Manchester United shouldn’t lose in this manner. It really hurts, it’s embarrassing and we’ve let a lot of people down.
“We’ve let ourselves down and the staff down.
“We need to look in the mirror, we are nowhere near it at the moment. Maybe it’s lucky that we’ve got a break now.
“When we went down to 10 men maybe we gave up, there wasn’t that character on the pitch. We were too quiet and naive. There was many mistakes, we need to do more.

Solskjaer odds-on to be sacked by CHRISTMAS and second favourite to be NEXT boss axed after Man Utd’s drubbing vs Spurs

MANCHESTER UNITED boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is odds-on to be sacked by the club before Christmas following the defeat against Tottenham.
The 47-year-old is already under huge pressure after just three Premier League games in which the Red Devils have lost twice.

Sunday’s embarrassing 6-1 loss against Spurs at Old Trafford has left United in 16th place.
Incredibly, United have conceded a whopping 11 goals in the Premier League this season – the second highest in the top-flight.
And after three dismal performances this term, Ladbrokes have Solskjaer at 8/13 to be sacked before Christmas.
The former Molde gaffer is also 1/2 to be given the axe before the end of the campaign.

Solskjaer is also the second favourite in the Premier League to lose his job next.
Fulham boss Scott Parker is the favourite at 11/8 with the Cottagers losing all four of their outings back in the big time.
And he is swiftly followed by Solskjaer, who is 7/2, with Sean Dyche next up at 6/1.
Solskjaer himself lamented his side’s performance against Spurs, as he said: “At 2-1 we were still in the game, after the red card everything went wrong.

Premier League managers favourites for the sack next (Labrokes)

    Scott Parker – 11/8
    Ole Gunnar Solskjaer – 7/2
    Sean Dyche – 6/1
    David Moyes – 10/1
    Frank Lampard – 14/1

“You don’t win games by making individual mistakes, errors and a performance like that.
“It is embarrassing, I hold my hand up, it is my fault. It is not Manchester United.
“It is not about getting players in but who is here. Today is the worst. I can’t say any more than that.
“When you are 2-1 down you are in with a chance, 3-1 down a minute later is hard. At 4-1 down it is about character and personality.
“We had to close their avenues to goal, but we didn’t come out with any aggression. There are a lot of wrongs today. We need to look at everything.”

Man Utd ratings: Maguire a shadow of former self, Pogba offers nothing and Martial petulant as they come

MANCHESTER UNITED were reduced to ten men and subsequently thumped by Tottenham in an Old Trafford shocker.
Anthony Martial was sent off for a slap on Erik Lamela – and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side them imploded to lose 6-1 to the side managed by their former boss Jose Mourinho.

Things had started so well for the Red Devils when Bruno Fernandes scored from the penalty spot after just two minutes.
But it ended in horrible fashion, as two goals apiece from Heung-min Son and Harry Kane and strikes from Tanguy Ndombele and Serge Aurier turned it into a pasting.
Here, SunSport’s Paul Jiggins runs the rule of how United’s players fared – and it makes grim reading.

Man Utd concede four in first half for first time EVER in Premier League as records tumble in Spurs drubbing

TOTTENHAM have become the first side in Premier League history to score four goals against Manchester United in the first half.
Despite taking the lead in just the second minute at Old Trafford through a Bruno Fernandes penalty, the Red Devils capitulated after Spurs equalised moments after.

Tanguy Ndombele fired Spurs back on level terms, with Son Heung-min then putting the visitors ahead in the seventh minute.
Anthony Martial was then sent off for a slap on Erik Lamela, before Kane tapped home and Son tucked in his second to leave Spurs winning 4-1 at half-time.
In stats obtained by Opta, United’s clash against Spurs was the first time they have conceded four first half goals in their 1,079th match in the competition.
And Tottenham are also the first visiting side to Old Trafford to score four first half goals against United since they beat United 4-3 in 1957.

United’s two strikes they let in the opening seven minutes was the earliest they have conceded two goals since their 3-0 defeat against Arsenal five years ago.

In another unwanted stat, Martial’s 28th minute red card was the earliest a United player has been given his marching orders at Old Trafford in the Premier League.
Incredibly, the French striker now has more red cards than he has had shots on target in the league this term.
Jose Mourinho’s men picked up where they left off in the second half as Serge Aurier blasted in a fifth in the 51st minute.

And Kane got his second of the contest in the 79th minute when he nestled in a penalty after Paul Pogba brought down Ben Davies.
That goal means United have conceded six goals in a match in the Premier League for just the third time – with all of those results coming in October.
Southampton in 1996 and Manchester City in 2011 were the two clubs that had previously hit United for six.
This 6-1 loss equalled that record defeat, suffered at the hand of their noisy neighbours.
United have now conceded 11 goals in their first three Premier League games this season – the second highest in the top-flight.

Watch Anthony Martial get sent off for slapping Lamela – but Man Utd ace appeared to be elbowed in neck first

MANCHESTER UNITED striker Anthony Martial was sent off for slapping Erik Lamela – but the Frenchman appeared to be elbowed on the neck first.
United’s home clash against Tottenham was already dramatic enough with three goals in the first eight minutes.

But Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side, already 2-1 down, were reduced to ten men when Martial lost his cool.
Spurs were preparing to take a corner when the Frenchman clashed with Lamela.
Replays showed the Spurs midfielder falling to the ground after Martial put his hand into his face.
But just prior to this, as the pair jostled in the box, Lamela’s elbow appeared to make contact with Martial’s neck.

Referee Anthony Taylor brandished the red card, but players and the Sky Sports commentators weren’t sure who had been given an early bath.
Taylor had VAR in his ear, but the official seemed confident he had got it right, and it was Martial who was sent marching down the tunnel.
The 24-year-old looked as stunned as his team-mates as he contemplated an early end to his game.
United were 2-1 down at this point, with Bruno Fernandes’ second minute penalty being cancelled out by goals Tanguy Ndombele and Heung-min Son.

Lamela should have gone too, says Mark Halsey

ANTHONY MARTIAL was sent off for an act of violent conduct but Erik Lamela should have received the same punishment.
What was the difference in their conduct? The only difference was Tottenham’s Lamela was a disgrace in the way he went down — the Argentine got the Manchester United striker red-carded.
Was it violent conduct? Not for me. And had Martial acted in the same way then Lamela too would have been dismissed.
When you raise your hands you do run the risk of a red card.
Both should have been  cautioned  for  adopting an aggressive attitude towards each other.
But I’m not convinced ref Anthony Taylor saw the initial contact by Lamela so I can’t understand why VAR ref Stuart Attwell didn’t recommend a review on the monitor.
Spurs boss Jose Mourinho felt United should have finished with eight men. I don’t believe Eric Bailly deliberately stamped on Harry Kane’s calf. VAR viewed the incident and felt it wasn’t a red card.
But Luke Shaw was lucky not to be sent off for a serious foul play challenge on Lucas Moura. He had no chance of winning the ball and if the contact was higher he could have broken Moura’s leg.

    4

Referee Anthony Taylor was quick to brandish a red card for Martial in the meleeCredit: Times Newspapers Ltd
And just two minutes after Martial’s red, Harry Kane slammed home for 3-1.
Things got even worse for Solskjaer’s shell-shocked troops when Son netted his second as Spurs went in at half-time 4-1 up.
Serge Aurier added a fifth after the break before Kane’s late penalty made it SIX.
Former Liverpool hardman Graeme Souness was fuming with Lamela’s reaction in the melee.
He told Sky Sports: “Pathetic. A tickle across the chops.
“Is that what the English game is all about?
“Lamela will sleep well tonight because he thinks he will have done a great piece of work for his team.
“That’s not us, but that is in our game now.” More

Gary Neville says Jadon Sancho transfer pursuit is ’embarrassing’ and Man Utd not acting like ‘smart clubs’ with deals

MANCHESTER UNITED legend Gary Neville has laid into his former employers as he labelled their pursuit of Jadon Sancho ’embarrassing’.
The Sky Sports pundit, 45, has hit out at the Red Devils who look set to miss out on the Borussia Dortmund ace despite four months of negotiations.

    2

BVB have been adamant they will only sell the 20-year-old should they receive a fee in the region of £108million.
It has been stated that the Red Devils have had a £91m bid rejected for Sancho – which has further infuriated Neville.
Speaking to Off The Ball about United, he said: “I just don’t think they’re smart enough and wise enough and agile enough in the market.”
Before adding: “They’re being outwitted in the market by the other clubs and if you lose recruitment you don’t win the league, it’s as simple as that.

“You can have a great coach but if you don’t get the right players you’re not going to win the league.”
Commenting on United’s hunt for Sancho, he said: “The Sancho thing is embarrassing.
“It’s been going on now for fourth months. It’s embarrassing, that.
“And then to put a bid in that gets rejected, the smart clubs, they have deals sorted behind the scenes, the agents are working hard, club officials are agreed on things and when the bids goes in it gets accepted, it’s done.

    2

Gary Neville has hit out at United’s pursuit of England international Sancho

“Who puts bids in nowadays that aren’t accepted? That doesn’t happen that often. Very rarely.
“Generally clubs have the deal sorted, the agents knows what the player’s getting, the player knows what the club are getting, the club knows what the other club are getting.
“I just don’t understand it at all, it’s not great. That’s why I’ve been critical.”
Wayne Rooney has advised United to forget signing Sancho with the window to close on Monday.
United still haven’t made a breakthrough in their quest to sign Porto left-back Alex Telles, as they continue to haggle over the price.
But the club are closing in on a deal to bring in free agent Edinson Cavani on a two-year deal.

Man Utd ‘to seal £65m Ousmane Dembele transfer from Barcelona if they offer long-term deal’ after missing out on Sancho

MANCHESTER UNITED will reportedly land Ousmane Dembele from Barcelona after failing to sign Jadon Sancho – if they offer him a long-term contract.
The Red Devils are looking to land a right-winger after a summer of dithering over England winger Sancho.

Dembele, 23, has had various injury problems at Barca since arriving at the Nou Camp in 2017, especially with hamstring issues.
According to the Sunday Times’ Duncan Castles, United have managed to convince him to make the Old Trafford switch after he had initial reservations.
Ironically, Sancho was Dembele’s replacement at the Westfalenstadion and is now valued far higher than the Frenchman.
There have also been previous reports that pal Paul Pogba has been messaging his France team-mate to convince him to join – with £65million thought to be enough to land him.

Dembele has also had issues around getting to training on time and other off-field quirks that have irked Barcelona since they paid £97m for him three years ago.

But the former Rennes and Dortmund man appears in need of a fresh start after losing his way in Catalonia.
He has seen just 20 minutes of football under Ronald Koeman this season and nine appearances last term in LaLiga and the Champions League.
This would surely be a concern for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who will not want to shell out a handsome sum of money on a permanent deal for a player with a dodgy hamstring. More
