Man Utd outcast Sergio Romero begs club to let him quit following summer transfer window hell

SERGIO ROMERO has begged Manchester United to let him leave after his transfer window hell.
The Argentine goalkeeper, 33, was desperate to quit Old Trafford, with Everton holding talks over a deal.

Sergio Romero has begged Man Utd to let him quit the club

Romero has fallen behind David De Gea and now Dean Henderson in the pecking order after his successful Sheffield United loan.
His wife even pleaded with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to let her husband go in a blistering social media tirade.
Reports claim Romero and his wife were left fuming after finding out Everton had been willing to pay Romero’s full £100,000-a-week pay-packet.
The keeper has now held talks with United and his reps and asked to get him a switch away to get regular action.

It is understood the outcast stopper does not want any sort of pay-off from the club, despite being owed around £1.5m.
He wants to be released from his contract by the end of the month, and fancies a switch stateside to Major League Soccer.
If United refuse to let him go, Romero will see out the final few months of his deal, which runs out next summer.
He will then sign a pre-contract with a foreign club in January, with a number already interested in him.

SunSport exclusively revealed earlier this year how Romero was unhappy with his situation after Henderson’s return.
He was No2 at the club at the time, but the 33-year-old has barely got a look in at all since.
The ex-Monaco ace has made just seven Premier League appearances since joining the club back in 2015.

Sergio Romero and wife fuming with Man Utd after rejecting Everton’s £2m loan transfer and offer to pay entire wages

MANCHESTER UNITED goalkeeper Sergio Romero is reportedly fuming with the club after they blocked a potential move to Everton.
The Toffees were keen to bring in the Argentine shot-stopper on loan to provide competition for Jordan Pickford, but the Red Devils rejected their approach.

Romero – who has just one year left on his contract at Old Trafford – has fallen down the pecking order following Dean Henderson’s return.

And the 33-year-old is understood to have been desperate to compete for regular first team football having not featured in the Premier League since the 2017-18 season.
According to The Athletic, Everton had a £2million loan offer turned down for the ex-Samporia star.
The Merseyside outfit were even prepared to cover his £100,000-a-week wages, but United are seeking £8m in order to get Romero off their books.

His failed transfer has away has angered Romero, with the shot-stopper also furious having not been told he would be omitted from United’s Champions League squad.
Lee Grant was included instead as the club’s third-choice – showing further proof he has no future at the Theatre of Dreams.
Having been part of the squad since 2015, Romero’s wife Eliana slammed United on Instagram last week stating he deserves more respect.
She wrote: “Sergio Romero worked hard for his club.

“Last trophy they won, they lifted it with him.
“He helped the team reach four finals/semi-finals and then he was on the bench, only to lose them all.
“It is time for them to return the opportunity and let him go. RESPECT FOR ONCE!!!! [sic].”
ESPN have stated that even United players have expressed their disappointment to the way their team-mate has been treated.
A move to the MLS could still be on the horizon with a number of clubs believed to be keen on signing him ahead of their October 29 deadline.

Man Utd legend Roy Keane second-favourite to take Salford manager job after Paul Scholes named as caretaker

MANCHESTER UNITED legend Roy Keane is second-favourite with the bookies to take over as Salford manager after Paul Scholes was named as caretaker boss on Monday.
The Irishman, 49, was spotted looking unimpressed in the stands at the club’s home clash with Tranmere at the weekend.

    2

Keane and Solskjaer are second and third-favourites respectively for the Salford job

Keane watched on as the visitors scored twice in the last five minutes to secure a point, which led to Graham Alexander being sacked.
Scholes, 45, was part of the consortium to buy 50 per cent of the minnows back in 2014.
The Class of 92 venture, including David Beckham, Gary Neville, Ryan Giggs, Nicky Butt, and Phil Neville, has seen City rise from non-League obscurity to League Two, where they sit fifth in the table.
And now it is thought they may turn to their former Old Trafford team-mate Keane to take is Salford to the next level – after Scholes was installed as temporary boss.

The one-time midfield hardman hasn’t managed since 2011 after a tough two years at Ipswich.
Keane had spent two years at Sunderland prior to his spell in Suffolk.

But the ex-Republic of Ireland, Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest assistant is 10/3 to be named Salford boss, with Paddy Power.
Former Huddersfield boss Danny Cowley is 5/2 favourite, with Sir Alex Ferguson a shock third-favourite at 14/1 to take over at the club part-owned by the Class of 92.

The Neville brothers, Ryan Giggs, Jamie Carragher and under-fire Man Utd chief Ole Gunnar Solskjaer are also in the running, with the latter a 50/1 longshot.
A Paddy Power spokesperson said: “It’s still early days, but our punters have been backing Keane to be the next Salford City manager.

“I’d imagine the Class of 92 would be too terrified to reject him if he applied.
“Or could it be a move for Ole, if things continue to go awry at Old Trafford?
“He wouldn’t have far to travel, at least.”

MANCHESTER UNITED kept up their tradition of spending big on teenage stars in the summer transfer by bringing in Atalanta ace Amad Diallo.
The Red Devils captured the 18-year-old Ivorian winger on deadline day.

    12

The most-expensive teenage XI in Premier League history

And Diallo is by no means the first big-money youngster to head to Old Trafford in recent years.
In fact, United absolutely dominate the list of most-expensive teenagers in Premier League history.
We’ve put together the costliest XI ever, below…

    GOALKEEPER – Thibaut Courtois

ONLY 19 years old when he first joined Chelsea in 2011, Courtois didn’t make his Blues debut until 2014.
Courtois spent three seasons on loan at Atletico Madrid, before having four years in the Chelesa first-team prior to his move to Real Madrid.
    RIGHT-BACK – Diogo Dalot

Transfer: Porto to Man Utd (2018)

    Cost: £19m
DALOT struggled to live up to the hype following his 2018 move from Porto aged 19 – worth £20m.
He has since been loaned to AC Milan.
    CENTRE-BACK – Phil Jones

Transfer: Blackburn to Man Utd (2011)
    Cost: £16.5m
SIR ALEX FERGUSON believed Jones would becomes one of the best centre-backs in the world on signing him from Blackburn in 2011.
    At £16.5m he wasn’t too pricey as a 19-year-old first-teamer – but even then he’s failed to live-up to the price-tag.
Still at United nearly a decade later, Jones is expected to leave soon having been axed from the club’s Europa League squad.

    CENTRE-BACK – William Saliba

    Transfer: Saint-Etienne to Arsenal (2019)
    Cost: £27m
YET to make his Premier League debut, Saliba joined the club for £27m last summer at 18 and was immediately loaned back to Saint-Etienne.
Arsenal had hoped to loan him out again, but the main transfer window has closed, with only the domestic window still open.

Transfer: Southampton to Man Utd (2014)

SHAW has failed to live up to the hype since joining United from Saints as an 18-year-old.
But the England star has been hampered by a series of injuries during his career and still has his best years ahead of him.
Shaw keeps Ryan Sessegnon – a £25m purchase by Tottenham from Fulham last year – out of the team.

    CENTRE-MID – Anderson

Transfer: Porto to Man Utd (2007)
    Cost: £20m
A REAL flop at Man Utd, Anderson joined as an explosive winger aged 19 and departed an underwhelming defensive midfielder.
Anderson retired in 2019 after a spell at Turkish second tier side Adana Demirspor.
He keeps John Obi Mikel – a £16.5m buy – out of the team following his move to Chelsea via Man Utd.
    RIGHT-WING – Amad Diallo

Transfer: Atalanta to Man Utd (2020)
    Cost: £37m
THE youngster, 18, won’t link up with Man Utd until January due to work permit issues.
And already there is controversy surrounding the move, with Diallo at the centre of an illegal immigrant probe over claims his ‘bogus’ father gained him false entry to Italy.
    LEFT-WING – Anthony Martial

Transfer: Monaco to Man Utd (2015)
    Cost: £44.5m
ALREADY the most expensive teenager in Premier League history when he joined United aged 19, Martial could prove even more expensive with add-ons potentially taking the total fee to £57.6m.
Martial has shown signs of real class at Old Trafford but has lacked consistency and is yet to justify the sky-high price-tag.
    FORWARD- Wayne Rooney

Transfer: Everton to Man Utd (2004)
    Cost: £30m
ARGUABLY one of United’s top bargains, at just £30m in total – including all add-ons – Rooney was part of one of the club’s best-ever periods.
Rooney won five Premier League titles and one Champions League crown following his move from Everton at the age of 18.
    STRIKER – Gabriel Jesus

Transfer: Palmeiras to Man City (2017)
    Cost: £28.6m
JESUS joined Man City from Brazilian side Palmeiras in 2017 aged 19 – and helped the club to back-to-back league titles.

    STRIKER – Fabio Silva

SILVA became just the latest Portuguese star to move to Molineux this summer.
In three games – two in the league – the 18-year-old is still yet to score.
But he will hope to live up to his price-tag, currently the third-most expensive teenager in Premier League history.

How Man Utd could replace Pogba with Eduardo Camavinga thanks to failed transfer talks over Ousmane Dembele

MANCHESTER UNITED could reportedly replace Paul Pogba with countryman Eduardo Camavinga.
Pogba’s deal expires next summer, but United do have the option to extend it for another season.

But according to Spanish newspaper AS, plans are being drawn up to prepare for the 27-year-old’s departure.
And Rennes starlet Camavinga has emerged as a potential long-term replacement.
United have ‘put in place the mechanism’ to sign Camavinga – and it started by already dealing with his agent.

Camavinga is managed by Mousa Sissoko, who also looks after Barcelona star Ousmane Dembele.

While United failed in their loan bid for Dembele on deadline day, it is being reported that ‘a foundation’ was laid to explore the possibility to sign Camavinga.
The 17-year-old’s current deal at Rennes expires in 2022.
Real Madrid were believed to be the frontrunners for the signature of Camavinga – but with a holding interest in Pogba, any move for the teen may be scrapped.
Juventus are also keen on a reunion with Pogba having bought and then sold him to United.

Football expert Fabrizio Romano claimed on a podcast that Pogba probably would have been a Juve player this summer had it not been for the coronavirus.
And Romano believes the pandemic, which is causing a cash crisis across the continent, made a summer bid for the France international ‘impossible’.
Last week Camavinga scored a stunning overhead kick in his first start for France.
It only took the 17-year-old prospect nine minutes to register as his country demolished Ukraine 7-1 in a friendly.
In a flash of quick thinking, the youngster readjusted his body and flicked the ball over his head in a brilliant overhead kick.
The Ukrainian defence were left stunned as Camavinga celebrated his moment of genius.

Man Utd and Liverpool plotting mass football overhaul including 18-team Prem, ditching League Cup and EFL cash windfall

MANCHESTER UNITED and Liverpool are leading the charge for a massive overhaul of English football, according to reports.
Reds owners Fenway Sports Group (FSG) have authored a spectacular ‘Revitalisation’ document in a bid to give the Premier League its biggest shake-up since its 1992 inception.

    6

The Telegraph claims the document proposes an 18-team top flight, the axing of the League Cup and additional funding made available for the Football League.
Man Utd have given their support to the document – in the works since 2017 – called ‘Project Big Picture’.
And the North-West giants – fierce rivals on the pitch – expect the rest of the ‘Big Six’ clubs to support the move.
Liverpool and United are hopeful Chelsea, Arsenal, Manchester City and Tottenham will all get on board with their proposed changes.

Above all other changes, the clubs have proposed to give struggling EFL clubs £250million to help them survive the coronavirus pandemic.
Moving forward, Premier League clubs will give a massive 25 per cent of their income to teams in the Football League.
The move is said to help end the ‘revenue chasm’ between the Premier League and Football League.
Parachute payments will be cut in the proposal in a bid to stop teams recklessly gambling on promotion to the top-flight in an unsustainable manner.

    6

EFL chief Rick Parry has given his backing to the proposed changesCredit: Rex Features

On top of that, the top-flight clubs will gift the FA £100m to help it stay afloat and away tickets for fans will be capped at £20.
Outside of financial matters, the new proposal would see the League Cup AND Community Shield scrapped.
In the Championship, there will still be two automatic promotion places – with just two relegated from the Premier League.
The third, fourth and fifth-placed second-tier sides will then go into a play-off mini-tournament along with the Premier League’s 16th-placed team.
The Premier League’s one-club, one-vote rule will also be abolished under proposed changes – with the 14-vote threshold to pass any new rule canned.
The nine clubs who’ve been in the top-flight for the longest period of time, including the ‘Big Six’ would dictate how the league is run.
And just six of those nine clubs – which include Everton, Southampton and West Ham – need to vote in favour of something for a new rule to be passed.
That, in turn, would see them play more games in the proposed, expanded Champions League – set to come into force for the 2024-25 season.

The plans would also see the Community Shield axedCredit: Times Newspapers Ltd

PROPOSED PREMIER LEAGUE CHANGES IN FULL

EFL given £250m for loss of matchday revenue – deducted from future TV earnings.
Nine longest-serving clubs have ‘special status’ – with just six votes from those clubs needed to pass a new rule.
Premier League to go from 20 clubs to 18.
FA awarded £100m gift to help during Covid-19 pandemic to help non-league game, the women’s game and grassroots football.
8.5 per cent of annual net Premier League revenue to go to ‘good causes’, including the FA.
25 per cent of all combined Premier League and Football League revenues to go to EFL clubs.
Six per cent of Premier League gross revenues to pay for stadium improvements across the top four divisions.
New rules for the distribution of Premier League television income, overseas and domestic.
League Cup and the Community Shield to be axed.
24 clubs each in the Championship, League One and League Two reducing the professional game overall from 92 clubs to 90.
A women’s professional league independent of the Premier League and FA.
Two sides automatically relegated from the Premier League every season and the top two Championship teams promoted.
The 16th place Premier League club plays in a play-off tournament with the Championship’s third, fourth and fifth placed teams.
Financial Fair Play regulations in line with Uefa, and full access for Premier League executive to club accounts.
Away tickets for fans to be capped at £20, with travel subsidised, a focus on a return to safe standing, a minimum away allocation of eight per cent capacity.
Later Premier League start in August to give greater scope for pre-season friendlies, and requirement for all clubs to compete once every five years in a summer Premier League tournament.
Huge changes to loan system allowing clubs to have 15 players out on loan domestically at any one time and up to four at a single club in England.
    *According to The Telegraph…

The entire plan has received backing from EFL chief Rick Parry – who spoke with Liverpool’s owners about the changes.
Parry has also spoken with Man Utd’s owners, the Glazer family, regarding the project.
According to the Telegraph, the document states: “A reset of the economics and governance of the English football pyramid is long overdue”.
And Parry told the Telegraph: “What do we do? Leave it exactly as it is and allow the smaller clubs to wither? Or do we do something about it?
“And you can’t do something about it without something changing.
“The view of our clubs is if the [Big Six] get some benefits but the 72 also do, we are up for it.
“It is definitely going to be challenging and it is an enormous change so that won’t be without some pain.
“Do I genuinely think it’s for the greater good of the game as a whole? Absolutely.
“And if the [Big Six] are deriving some benefit then why shouldn’t they. Why wouldn’t they put their names to this otherwise?”

Man Utd boost in Dembele transfer hunt with Barcelona desperate to offload Frenchman in January for cut-price £45m

MANCHESTER UNITED have received a boost in their pursuit of Barcelona winger Ousmane Dembele.
United failed to land the Frenchman this summer as an alternative to Jadon Sancho but Barca are reportedly still desperate to offload him in January.

    1

The winger, 23, knows he has no future under Ronald Koeman at Barcelona.
And the Red Devils were eager to bring Dembele to Old Trafford after failing to agree a fee for England international Sancho.
Frenchman Dembele reportedly snubbed United on deadline day in a bid to force a move to Juventus.

But that also failed to materialise and Barcelona are furious the ex-Borussia Dortmund speedster did not leave, according to ESPN.
The Catalans were desperate to offload the winger to fund a move for Lyon wideman Memphis Depay.
And they are still eager to get him out the door in the January transfer window for £45million, according to Spanish outlet Sport.
Dembele’s Barcelona contract expires in 2022.

And the Nou Camp club have made it clear to the France international he will be sold in January to ensure they recoup as much money as possible.

Dembele joined Barca from Dortmund in 2017 for a staggering £132m.
But he has been an unused substitute in every game this season.
His time in Spain has not been a success despite landing two LaLiga titles and one Copa del Rey.
Dembele made just NINE appearances in all competitions last term after suffering TWO hamstring tears.
Despite his struggles, he was also linked with a move to Liverpool.
But any hopes of an Anfield switch ended when Jurgen Klopp splurged £40m on Wolves winger Diogo Jota.
