How Man Utd could line-up against Chelsea with Axel Tuanzebe set to start, Martial OUT and doubts over Maguire recall

MANCHESTER UNITED take on Chelsea in the Premier League on Saturday itching for another impressive win.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Co edged past Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League midweek.

How Man Utd could line-up against Chelsea on Saturday

Marcus Rashford was the hero at the Parc des Princes yet again, as Bruno Fernandes also converted another penalty.
Solskjaer sent out his troops in a 3-4-1-2 formation, with the new strategy appearing to suit a number of players.
Axel Tuanzebe earned rave reviews on the right-side of the back-three, keeping superstar Kylian Mbappe quiet.
Our exclusive poll revealed 83 per cent of fans want Tuanzebe to start against Chelsea, too.

With Eric Bailly ruled out through injury for a month, it’s possible Harry Maguire returns to the back-three on the left-side.
The Man Utd captain has endured a tricky run of form in recent months and was rested for the win in France.
But the England defender is best-suited to playing in a back-three, with Victor Lindelof set to take the final spot.
However, should Solskjaer opt to sideline Maguire again, Luke Shaw would likely start on the left of the back-three.

Solskjaer could line-up in his favoured 4-2-3-1 for Chelsea

Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Alex Telles should continue at wing-back, with Shaw pushing for the left spot should he not start in the middle.
Solskjaer must choose just two of Paul Pogba, Scott McTominay, Fred, Donny van de Beek and Nemanja Matic in the middle of the park.
Fred and McTominay started the win over PSG – but he will likely rotate his pack at Old Trafford.
Fernandes is a near-certainty to start in the No10 role, just ahead of the centre-mids, playing just behind the front two.
Anthony Martial is suspended for the game following his red card for lashing out at Erik Lamela against Tottenham.
Meanwhile, Mason Greenwood is said to have been suffering with a mystery knock, but some reports claim he has been dropped after demonstrating a poor attitude, including turning up late for training.

Should Greenwood not play, Edinson Cavani would likely be given his first start having missed out on the midweek clash against his old club.
The Uruguayan would start alongside Rashford in the attacking slots.
Solskjaer could, of course, opt for his more-favoured 4-2-3-1 formation.
Should that be the case, one defender – likely Maguire or Lindelof – would be sacrificed for another forward.
With Greenwood and Martial both out, Daniel James and Juan Mata would fight for a spot at right-wing, with Rashford on the left and Cavani through the middle.
It’s possible both James and Mata play, with Rashford in the central berth should Cavani not be deemed match fit.

Man Utd ‘among five clubs tracking Adama Traore transfer but Wolves will demand staggering £90m for winger’

MANCHESTER UNITED reportedly face competition from four different clubs in the race to sign Wolves star Adama Traore.
The 24-year-old has established himself as one of the Premier League’s most feared wingers having terrorised defences under Nuno Espirito Santo.

Wolves ace Adama Traore has no shortage of admirers should he choose to depart MolineuxCredit: Getty Images – Getty

And while he is yet to score or provide an assist in his six outings this season, the Spanish international has no shortage of suitors.

According to Calciomercato, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is vying to bring him to Old Trafford.
The Red Devils are looking at alternatives to Jadon Sancho having failed to prise him away from Borussia Dortmund in the summer.
But they are not the only English club to be keen on landing the ex-Middlesbrough ace.

Both Manchester City and Liverpool also understood to be interested in the forward.
And it has been claimed that Serie A side Juventus are monitoring his progress, though it is unlikely he will be plying his trade in Turin.
United’s biggest competitors are believed to be Traore’s former employers Barcelona – who he left in 2015 to join Aston Villa.
Any suitor wishing to sign Traore must stump up a whopping £90million, with Wolves desperate to keep hold of their prized asset.

SunSport reported earlier this month how the winger was set to snub interest in him and pen a new contract at Molineux.
A £100,000-a-week double-your-money, four-year deal is said to be on the table for the player.
Traore is just two years into a five-year contract after joining from Boro in 2018 for £22million.

Man Utd star Axel Tuanzebe could be better as midfielder, says Ryan Giggs, despite having Kylian Mbappe in his pocket

MANCHESTER UNITED could decide to turn starlet Axel Tuanzebe into a midfielder in the Paul Pogba mould.
The 22-year-old was outstanding at centre-half against superstars Neymar and Kylian Mbappe in the stunning 2-1 win at Paris Saint-Germain in midweek.

Axel Tuanzebe could be transformed into a midfielder at Manchester UnitedCredit: PA:Press Association

But United legend and former first-team coach Ryan Giggs revealed he was considered for a starting place in the midfield under ex-boss Louis van Gaal.
And sources at Carrington believe he has similar qualities to record-signing Pogba, which have been obvious when he has played in the engine room during training.
It leaves Red Devils manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer with an interesting choice to make as Tuanzebe stood out at centre-back in the Parc des Princes on Tuesday night
But the long-term future of Pogba remains in doubt — even though United chose to extend his contract by an extra year earlier this month.

Giggs reckons the youngster has the tools to play in either position — and his versatility will make him invaluable, providing he can stay fit.
The Wales boss said: “First of all he’s a really good lad with a good mentality.
“All he has to do now is stay fit and play games because he’s got all the attributes.
“He can handle the ball, he can even play midfield.

Ryan Giggs revealed he toyed with the idea of playing Axel Tuanzebe in midfield while Manchester United coach Credit: AFP or licensors
“We thought about playing him there when he was fit under Louis.
“When Louis came he was just going through a massive growth spurt so he had a few injuries, a few niggles. But he’s just got to stay fit.
“He can read the game well, and he is quick — which he showed against PSG.

“But he’s got to play games and when he plays games then his confidence will grow.”
Giggs believes Tuanzebe now needs to repeat his showing in the French capital consistently to convince Solskjaer to let him start regularly.

He told the Webby and O’Neill Channel: “Once he starts banging out the games it’s up to him to say to Ole ‘I’m doing so well that you can’t leave me out of the team’.
“It’s that consistency. He’s got to produce performances like that again and again. I’m sure if he stays fit he will be a regular in the first team.
“He’s had that loan time at Villa now, his mentality is good, he’s quick, he’s strong. He has all the attributes to be a centre-half for United too.”

Man Utd’s academy hits and misses from Beckham and Scholes to Pogba and Lingard in warning for new favourite Tuanzabe

AXEL TUANZEBE is the latest youngster to break out of the Manchester United academy and get fans buzzing about a new hero.
The talented defender, 22, has captained United at every stage through the youth ranks.

Is Axel Tuanzebe the next Man Utd academy hit in the making?Credit: PA:Press Association

Tuanzebe has even skippered the senior squad – in the Carabao Cup win over Rochdale last season.
Most-recently, the centre-back returned from a ten-month injury lay-off to excel in the 2-1 Champions League win at Paris Saint-Germain.
Tuanzebe kept Kylian Mbappe extraordinarily quiet, which is no easy feat, to earn rave reviews.
Now, 83 per cent of fans want Tuanzebe to keep Harry Maguire out of the starting XI for the Premier League clash with Chelsea on Saturday.

But history has taught us while some homegrown wannabes go on to become mega-stars, others fade into mediocrity in a stark warning to the defender.
While there are hundreds to choose from, we take a look at the biggest hits, misses and those who have split the jury in the Premier League era…
    HITS
    Class of 92

The Class of 92 all went on to have extraordinary careers at Man UtdCredit: Getty Images – Getty
THE most obvious ‘hits’ in football history, the Class of 92 propelled United to the most-successful era in the club’s history.

David Beckham, Gary Neville, Paul Scholes, Ryan Giggs, Nicky Butt and Phil Neville all helped Sir Alex Ferguson to win trophy after trophy.
Giggs would go on to win 13 Premier League crowns, four FA Cups and two Champions League titles.
Beckham would go on to play for Real Madrid and blaze a trail by playing in the MLS – all the while developing the incredible ‘Beckham’ brand.
All of the Class of 92 would go on to play for England – or Wales in Giggs’ case – and enjoy trophy-laden careers.
Since retiring, some of gone into management and coaching, while others are now-famous for their punditry.
    Marcus Rashford

Rashford scored on his 2016 debut against Midtjylland and has never looked backCredit: AFP or licensors
ONE of United’s most-recent success stories, Rashford burst on to the scene by scoring twice in the 5-1 Europa League win over Midtjylland in 2016.
The striker – now an MBE for his incredible work off the pitch – wasn’t even meant to play in the game but for a last-minute injury to Anthony Martial.
Rashford – in the United youth ranks since the age of seven – has since gone on to become one of the first names on both Man Utd and England’s team-sheets.
    Scott McTominay

Scott McTominay has gone on to become a first-team regular at UnitedCredit: AFP or licensors
ANOTHER near-ever present in a talented Man Utd midfield, McTominay is even keeping Paul Pogba out of the team these days.
The Scottish star made his debut in May 2017 under Jose Mourinho and has gone on to become a reliable presence in the team.
Just last year, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer revealed he wanted to build his team for the future around McTominay – although, that was before the arrival of Bruno Fernandes.
    Darren Fletcher

FLETCHER is one of those criminally-underrated players, having won five Premier League titles in 12 seasons at the club.
For the latter years of his career, the Scot was even battling bowel disease chronic ulcerative colitis.
All-in-all, Fletcher still managed to make 342 appearances for the club – also helping to win the 2008 Champions League final.
    Wes Brown

Wes Brown enjoyed huge success at United despite often being criticisedCredit: Getty Images – Getty
MUCH like Fletcher, Brown is often underrated by fans.
But most of that will be down to the fact he was tasked with filling the massive shoes left by the likes of Gary Neville…
Brown played nearly 400 times across 14 seasons at the club before joining Sunderland in 2011.
The defender even managed 23 England caps.

    MISSES
    Ravel Morrison

Ravel Morrison, pictured with Jesse Lingard, never lived up to the hypeCredit: Action Images – Reuters
RIO FERDINAND once revealed Fergie claimed Morrison ‘was the best player he had seen at that age’.
Morrison never played in the league for United, reduced to just three League Cup appearances.
Since then, the midfielder has bounced around a host of clubs, from Lazio and Sheffield United to Atlas, Ostersunds and now ADO Den Haag in Holland.
But despite making his senior debut ten years ago, Morrison has been limited to just 105 league matches across the globe.
Lazio director Igle Tare summed him up the best, once stating: “He has undoubted quality and is world-class, as well as being a little mad.”
    Adnan Januzaj

THE Belgian burst on to the scene under David Moyes in 2013 – with fans believing they had a new superstar on their hands.
But Januzaj’s form quickly plummeted and he was shipped off to Borussia Dortmund and then Sunderland on loan – failing to score at either club.
He joined Real Sociedad in 2017 with his only claim to fame in recent years his strike against England at the 2018 World Cup in Russia – to this day, still his only international goal.
    Tom Cleverley

Tom Cleverley never lived up to Fergie’s hopes of replacing ScholesCredit: AP:Associated Press
THE ex-England star was once singled-out as the obvious replacement for Scholes by Ferguson.
But Cleverley never even came close to filling Scholes’ boots and after four loan spells away was sold to Everton in 2015.
He’s now at Championship side Watford.
    Danny Simpson

Danny Simpson, left, enjoyed little success at United – but won the league with LeicesterCredit: Reuters
AFTER working his way through the youth ranks, Simpson dipped his toe into the water in 2007-08, making eight appearances for United in all competitions.
But after five loan spells away – and no further appearances – Simpson was sold to Newcastle in 2010.
Simpson would later go on to be a key cog in the Leicester machine which won the 2015-16 Premier League title.
But in terms of his United career, he goes into the flop pile…
Simpson is currently a free agent after leaving Huddersfield in the summer.
    Cameron Borthwick-Jackson

Borthwick-Jackson showed so much promise in 2015-16 but is now at OldhamCredit: Reuters
THE full-back made ten Premier League appearances in the 2015-16 season, with his future seemingly bright.
But he was loaned out FIVE times after that, and is now at League Two side Oldham after completing a permanent move this summer.
    JURY’S OUT
    Paul Pogba

Pogba worked through the youth ranks, then shone at JuventusCredit: Getty – Contributor
    POGBA is an interesting one.
He worked his way through the youth ranks at United before opting to quit and join Juventus.
Ferguson accused Pogba of showing a lack of respect – as the Frenchman would go on to become arguably the best midfielder on the planet for a short time in Italy.
His red-hot form saw him become the most-expensive player on the planet as Man Utd brought him back in an £89m deal.
But since then, Pogba’s attitude has irked fans, while his on-field performances have been a million miles away from his Juventus days.
Pogba has repeatedly stated his desire to quit – alas, with no takers…
It’s hard to call him a miss, but he’s also not a hit – we’ll give him until the end of the season to make our minds up.
    Jesse Lingard

Lingard is running out of time to be considerde an academy success storyCredit: Getty – Contributor
A HERO of the 2018 World Cup, late-bloomer Lingard appeared to have finally found his feet.
However, Lingard has struggled to recreate his 2018 England form for his club, leaving fans frustrated.
His United career appears to be over, struggling to get a look-in under Solskjaer – having only featured in the two Carabao Cup wins so far this season.
Lingard certainly has the talent – but can he prove he deserves to be called an academy ‘hit’ in time?
    Axel Tuanzebe

Tuanzebe is quickly becoming a fan-favourite at Man UtdCredit: Getty Images – Getty
    AND finally, there’s new flavour-of-the-month Tuanzebe…
The defender actually made his debut in 2015, but has seen his United game-time limited following two loan stints at Aston Villa and some nasty injuries.
Tuanzebe shone against PSG – and he will now be eager to prove that was no flash in the pan as the season rages on.
With United’s defence as shabby as it is, he may never get a better chance to prove his worth.

Solskjaer sick of Mason Greenwood’s attitude with Man Utd striker late for training TWICE before recent axe

MASON GREENWOOD has left Ole Gunnar Solskjaer fuming after twice turning up late for training.
The Manchester United manager had already warned him about his conduct following his expulsion from the England squad last month.

But the teenage star has now been axed from the last two United squads for the 4-1 win at Newcastle and midweek triumph over PSG.
Solskjaer has also grown sick of the striker’s general attitude so far this season.
His performance level has dropped significantly too not least in the 6-1 drubbing by Tottenham in United’s last home game at Old Trafford.

Solskjaer claimed ahead of the PSG game that it was not a disciplinary issue and that he was out the squad because he had a ‘niggle’.

The manager, however, refused to say what that ‘niggle’ was or when he got it.
Greenwood, 19, was also pictured swerving between posts during full training before the team flew out to Paris.
He now has some work to do to get back into Solskjaer’s good books.
It is unlikely he will start in the weekend’s home game against Chelsea given that United have produced two impressive performances without him.

It was the start of last month that Greenwood was expelled from the England camp after his debut against Iceland.
He and Phil Foden invited two girls back to the team hotel after the game in Reykjavik breaking strict team and Covid protocols.
Southgate was understood to be furious and left both players out of the Three Lions squads the three most recent internationals.
Solskjaer tried to defend Greenwood at the time claiming that the player had needed a physical and mental rest and should not have been called up for international duty.

Axel Tuanzebe must start ahead of Harry Maguire for Man Utd vs Chelsea say 83 PER CENT of fans after PSG display

AXEL TUANZEBE should start ahead of Harry Maguire for Manchester United, according to a massive 83 PER CENT of fans.
The young defender, 22, had Kylian Mbappe and Neymar in his pocket as Man Utd beat Paris Saint-Germain in their Champions League opener on Tuesday.

Under-fire Maguire was absent for the game with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer after picking up a knock.
And now fans say Tuanzebe should start ahead of the skipper – who scored in last weekend’s 4-1 win over Newcastle – ahead of United’s Premier League clash with Chelsea on Saturday.
Tuanzebe rightfully won the Man of the Match award as United edged past French champions PSG.
Marcus Rashford and Bruno Fernandes scored the goals for Man Utd.

But it was Tuanzebe’s incredible display at the back that really won the game against one of Europe’s most-lethal attacking teams.
And now, 83 per cent of nearly 4,000 footie fans believe he deserves a place in Solskjaer’s starting XI ahead of Maguire.
Earlier this week, pundits raved about Tuanzebe’s marking of Mbappe, reducing the striker to just 54 touches – almost half that of Neymar.
He won all his aerial battles and made a game-high seven clearances.

Perhaps most impressive, though, was the fact it came ten months after his last United game, due to a long injury lay-off.
Tuanzebe’s team-mates lined up to pay tribute to his performance in the 2-1 triumph.
Marcus Rashford said: “I know Axel from a very very young age, he’s an unbelievable defender, and for me he has no problem stepping in even though he’s been out for a long time.”
David De Gea raved: “He has been unbelievable today.
“He played against two of the best players in the world in Neymar and Mbappe so he did really, really well. I am really happy for him.” More

Man Utd and Chelsea in Denis Zakaria transfer battle as duo fight for Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder

BORUSSIA MONCHENGLADBACH midfielder Denis Zakaria is reportedly at the centre of a transfer battle between Manchester United and Chelsea.
The 23-year-old – who still has two years left on his contract with the Bundesliga side – has been out with a knee injury since March.

Manchester United and Chelsea are interested in signing midfielder Denis ZakariaCredit: 2020 Borussia Moenchengladbach

But that hasn’t stopped both the Red Devils and the Blues to eye up a move for the Swiss international, who could be allowed to leave next summer.

According to Bild, the two Premier League clubs are vying to bring the former Young Boys star to England.
United are in need for a defensive midfielder to replace the ageing Nemanja Matic, who turned 32 in August.
Meanwhile Frank Lampard is looking for alternatives to West Ham’s Declan Rice having failed to prise him away from the London Stadium.

But the two teams could still miss out on Zakaria, with it claimed that Bayern Munich are also keen to snap him up.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is known to be a fan of the player, with United heavily linked with a move to sign him last season.
Liverpool have also been credited with an interest in the £37million-rated maestro.
Zakaria spoke earlier in the year about how flattering it was to be linked with moves to Europe’s biggest clubs.

Speaking in March, he said: “[The interest] spurs me on and gives me strength to improve further.
“The fact that other clubs are dealing with me shows that I perform well.
“But I only concentrate on Borussia. We can achieve great things this season.” More
