Ryan Giggs fears Man Utd fans face a 20-YEAR wait to see another Premier League title

RYAN GIGGS fears Manchester United will have to wait 20 YEARS to reclaim the Premier League title.
The Red Devils have not won the top-flight since legendary boss Sir Alex Ferguson bowed out in 2013.

But Giggs concedes the current power of champions Liverpool, who endured a torrid 30-year gap between titles, and Manchester City could extend United’s barren run much longer.
When asked by Kop legend Jamie Carragher if Giggs is worried his former club could follow Liverpool’s long wait, he replied: “Yes, 100 per cent. It could be 15, 20 years before you know it, especially if (Jurgen) Klopp and (Pep) Guardiola stick around.
“They have got the resources and the players so we have Liverpool to look at where the last time when they won it in 1990 they thought we’ll win it again soon.
“Even Klopp took four and a half years for him to win it – it takes a long time. You have to think about what Klopp did.

“He improved the team every season or won a trophy like the Champions League and then you saw the improvement so the pressure was off a little bit.
“Every manager and signing is seen as that he will win us the league and it’s not like that.”
Giggs lifted the Prem trophy 13 times during a glittering playing career at Old Trafford but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side, who finished third last season, have had a miserable league start and lie 15th in the table ahead of Sunday’s visit of Arsenal.
But the Wales boss is adamant Liverpool remain United’s major rivals.Giggs, speaking on the Greatest Game Podcast, said: “The best feeling I always had was leaving Anfield after winning even if Liverpool weren’t the best side at the time.

“I played for Salford boys and our toughest games were always against Bootle, Liverpool, Kirkby, Sefton.
“As soon as you went down the East Lancs it was a mindset it’s going to be a tough game and a test of not just your footballing ability but also your mental strength.”
Giggs is happy in his role as Wales boss heading into the Euros next summer but also admits his chance of becoming a future United boss have gone.
The 46-year-old, who had four games as caretaker after David Moyes before a two-year spell as assistant to Louis van Gaal, added: “I wanted the job after those four games but I wasn’t ready. I was definitely ready after Louis and I wanted the job then but I was nowhere near it.
“I’m more ready but I think that’s gone now. I think the chance has gone. I’ve done it. Of course, it’s an amazing job but it’s not like I am desperate to manage Manchester United.
“I have managed Manchester United, okay, it was for only four games but, no, I can’t see that coming around again.
“I’m enjoying the Wales job at the moment. There’s lots of pluses, there’s lots of frustrations. Eventually I will want to go into club management. When that is I don’t know.”

Giggs revealed how he was punched in the stomach by LVG during their first meeting in 2014.
He said: “He was quirky and 100 per cent funny without knowing it. He was very dominating, direct and in your face. The first time I met him he punched me in the stomach!
“I met him at the hotel and opened the door, he looked at me up and down and said: ‘You are in good shape.’ Then punched me in the stomach. It was hard as well.
“What do you do there? It could have been me out of a job. But that’s what he’s like.”

Paul Scholes says Man Utd transfer target Dayot Upamecano is ‘type of defender club need’ despite Leipzig thrashing

PAUL SCHOLES has told Manchester United to sign Dayot Upamecano and claims he is the ‘type of defender’ his old club need.
The 22-year-old had the perfect chance to impress Ole Gunnar Solskjaer last night when RB Leipzig travelled to Old Trafford in the Champions League.

But the French international did not exactly shine as his side suffered a 5-0 thrashing at the hands of the Red Devils.
Nevertheless, speculation persists that United will soon press ahead with a move to bring Upamecano to the Premier League next summer.
And their legendary former midfielder Scholes believes they have to get a deal done.

And he even went as far to claim that the star is similar to fellow United icons Rio Ferdinand and Jaap Stam.

Scholes told BT Sport: “This is the type of defender I think United need, he’s very different to Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof.
“He absolutely loves one-vs-ones, he loves getting down that channel because he knows he’s gonna beat them.
“It’s very much the same as what Rio used to do, what Jaap Stam used to do.
“It frees the rest of the team to worry about attacking play, because you know you’ve got a centre-half who is going to defend and he’ll do it all day.”

Before Wednesday’s game, Solskjaer refused to be drawn on a swoop for Upamecano, saying: “There’s always rumours and speculation about other players and Manchester United.
“I don’t want to comment on every player we’re linked to.
“Since he’s playing against us tomorrow, I know he’s a very good player and we can see him close up tomorrow.”

Harry Maguire admits he feared Man Utd were heading for ‘big crisis’ after 6-1 thrashing by Tottenham

HARRY MAGUIRE has admitted he thought Manchester United were facing a ‘big crisis’ after their 6-1 defeat to Tottenham.
Since that devastating home thumping before the international break, United have been in fine form.

They beat Newcastle 4-1, Paris Saint-Germain 2-1, RB Leipzig 5-0 and earned a point in a tight goalless draw at home to Chelsea.
That run has silenced the alarm bells but even captain Maguire admits they were ringing loudly inside the dressing room.
Maguire said: “After Spurs, we were all devastated and just three games into the season it felt like it was a big crisis.
“It was quite a strange feeling, but we don’t expect to lose games at Old Trafford and we definitely don’t expect to lose games like we did.”

The Spurs defeat came after a 3-1 home defeat to Crystal Palace and a fortunate 3-2 away win at Brighton.
The defence was a shambles and fans were furious that another centre-half had not been bought.
But they have conceded just twice in the last four matches and they were unfortunate own goals.
Maguire said: “The first three games we were conceding far too many chances.

“So as a defensive unit, having kept the most clean sheets in Europe last season, we knew we had to improve to be more solid.
“We have worked hard on the training ground and since the international break we have gone back to not conceding chances like last year, when we were a solid unit and a solid base.
“One, two, three goals it should end up in a win. At the moment we are doing that. It’s a start, but it is still an early win in the season.
“It is going to be a long journey, but we’ve got to improve. We know that and we are doing so at the minute, but there is a long way to go.”
While the ship has been steadied in the league, United have excelled in their opening two games in what was named the Group of Death.
For Maguire it’s not just about getting out this group but really making an impact on Europe’s biggest stage once more in this season’s Champions League.
He said: “It is the start of a European campaign where we want to be successful.

“We don’t want to stop in the group stage; we want to get through and be successful in the knockout stages.
“That is the standards we have set and the expectations we have set. Last season you have seen a lot of our top performances brought out great results.
“We know we can get to the level and the level has to be hit more. It has got to be more consistent.
“I think you have seen that since the international break. We have come back with a great mentality. We needed a reaction. The only way was up.”

Meet Man Utd target Isak Bergmann Johannesson with Iceland ace, 17, born in Sutton Coldfield and eligible for England

ISAK BERGMANN JOHANNESSON is a name Premier League fans ought to get used to hearing.
The Icelandic star, 17, is garnering attention from the likes of Manchester United and Liverpool thanks to his red-hot form at Swedish side IFK Norrkoping.

With a wand of a left-foot, Johannesson is lethal cutting in from his favoured right-wing.
The youngster has already racked up two caps for Iceland’s Under-21s, despite his age.
In 2018-19, Johannesson scored eight goals in just nine games for the Under-17s, still aged just 15.
But, having not made his senior debut, Johannesson could still play for ENGLAND.

Johanneson’s dad – Joey Gudjonsson – is a player many English fans will be familiar with.
Gudjonsson spent the better part of a decade in England, turning out for Aston Villa, Wolves, Leicester, Burnley and Huddersfield.
The central midfielder, now 40, retired from football in 2017 – with his last stint on British soil coming between 2010 and 2012 at Huddersfield.
But it was during his time at Villa in 2003 when he and wife Jofridur Maria Gudlaugsdottir welcomed a son to the world.

Isak Bergmann Johannesson was born in Sutton Coldfield – just five miles from Villa Park.
Because of that, the gifted winger is eligible to play for the Three Lions one day, should he choose to.
Football is clearly running through Johannesson’s veins too.
Not only was dad a professional player, but granddad Gudjon Thordarson was an Iceland international who later managed a host of clubs in England.
Thodarson managed Stoke, Barnsley, Notts County and Crewe in the 1990s and 2000s.
Three of Isak’s uncles all played professional football at one point or another, while a fourth turned out in the Iceland leagues.
Meanwhile, one of Isak’s cousins – on his mother’s side this time – is a team-mate of his at Norrkoping.
Now, a host of European giants are coming knocking for Isak.

However, Norrkoping chief scout Stig Torbjornsen says the club are in no rush to sell.
Torbjornsen claimed: “There has been a lot of interest in Bergmann Johannesson. It’s no secret that clubs are chasing him.
“Liverpool are one of the clubs, and there are ten others as well. The best clubs in Europe have been here for him.
“There is interest when such a young guy plays so well for so long. He has performed for his national Under-21 team.
“It’s hard to say if we can keep him in January. A club with a lot of money could come along now or in six months.
“Norrkoping have a lot of money and don’t need to sell, and Isak has a sensible agent and family.
“When something comes up that is good for all parties, something will happen.”
Johannesson has since revealed he would SNUB Premier League champions Liverpool, as he grew up a fan of Man Utd.
The young winger has scored three times in 23 appearances this season to fire Norrkoping to third in the Swedish top-flight with five games to play.
All eyes will now be on the youngster and whether he’ll become the third straight generation of his family to take his talents to England.

Ajax won’t want to sell their latest academy star – being dubbed the ‘new Paul Pogba’ for his style of play.
But the Eredivisie giants are now bracing themselves for monster bids from some of Europe’s biggest clubs.
Earlier this week, Italian outlet Tuttosport claimed Juventus and Barcelona had registered their interest in Gravenberch.
And now, the Mirror state Man Utd have joined the race, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer seemingly keen to add another Ajax midfielder to his ranks.

The Red Devils chief already brought Donny van de Beek to Old Trafford in a £40million deal in the summer.
Struggling with the financial repercussions of the coronavirus pandemic, Ajax could be forced to cash-in for the right price.
Gravenberch is currently valued at around £10m, according to Transfermarkt.
And United could be in pole position to land the hot prospect thanks to Mino Raiola.

Gravenberch is represented by the super-agent, who also has Pogba on his books.
Despite his age, Gravenberch has already played 19 times for Ajax – scoring four goals and adding three assists.
He has also made history at the club by surpassing Clarence Seedorf’s record as the youngest player to appear in the Eredivisie, aged 16 years and 130 days.
Not only have Gravenberch’s dazzling displays earned him rave reviews across Europe, but he was also recently shortlisted for the Golden Boy 2020 award.

Solskjaer reveals Man Utd defender Alex Telles has tested positive for coronavirus after new boy misses Leipzig win

The Brazilian impressed on his debut in the 2-1 win against Paris Saint-Germain last week.

However, he was subsequently left out of the squad for Saturday’s draw against Chelsea and missed tonight’s 5-0 thrashing of RB Leipzig in the Champions League.
Telles was not spotted arriving at the Hilton Hotel earlier in the day alongside his team-mates for their pre-match meal.
And United boss Solskjaer revealed – after his Marcus Rashford-inspired side demolished their German opponents – that the recent signing from Porto has coronavirus and would now be self-isolating.

But he did not put a timescale on when the defender would be able to return.

Solskjaer said: “Telles has tested positive for coronavirus so he’s been out for a few days. No symptoms though, so he’ll be fine. Back soon.”
The full-back is the second United star to test positive for coronavirus since the start of the campaign.
Paul Pogba also contracted the virus while with the French squad on international duty.
But Telles quickly took to Instagram to ease any fears fans had and thanked them for their support.

He wrote: “Guys, I want to thank you for the messages of affection that I received from the moment that United announced that I have been diagnosed with Covid-19.
“I want to say that I am fine, isolated and soon I will be back with all my strength to hep my team-mates.
“Once again, than you all for your messages!”

Fellow deadline day signing Edinson Cavani was also forced to quarantine following his arrival in Manchester.
Telles now looks set to miss Sunday’s crunch Prem clash at home to Arsenal.
United then travel to Turkey next week to face Istanbul Basaksehir in the Champions League.

Liverpool target Isak Bergmann Johannesson reveals Man Utd transfer dream as 17-year-old reveals he used to watch games

ICELANDIC whizkid Isak Bergmann Johannesson has dealt Liverpool’s chances of signing him a blow after revealing that he dreams of joining Manchester United.
The 17-year-old has been earning rave reviews in the Swedish top-flight with IFK Norrkoping – leading to interest from the Reds and Red Devils.

Manchester United and Liverpool are keen on signing Icelandic whizkid Isak Bergmann Johannesson

Liverpool scout Mads Jorgensen checked on the teenager in Norrkoping’s 2-2 draw with AIK on Monday.

However the youngster has spoke of his dream to play at Old Trafford, having watched games at the Theatre of Dreams as a child.
Johannesson – son of ex-Leicester and Aston Villa midfielder Joey Gudjonsson – lived near Manchester during his dad’s spells at Burnley and Huddersfield.
Speaking of interest in him, the winger told Expressen: “My dream club is Manchester United, together with IFK Norrkoping.

“I lived in Manchester when I was a kid, and I watched a lot of games there. It’s great that Liverpool have been watching me.
“But I’ll just focus on helping Norrkoping get into Europe next season.  We’re going to do it together.
“You can’t say that I am not going to Liverpool. They play good football – Manchester City and Liverpool have been great.
“But will I have the chance to move this winter?  I’ll concentrate on Norrkoping – we have five games left to get a European place.”

Norrkoping chief scout Stig Torbjornsen said earlier this week: “There has been a lot of interest in Bergmann Johannesson. It’s no secret that clubs are chasing him.
“Liverpool are one of the clubs, and there are ten others as well. The best clubs in Europe have been here for him.”
Johannesson’s stunning form has propelled Norrkoping to second in the Allsvenskan league.
He has made 27 appearances this year, scoring four goals, and has won 23 caps for Iceland’s youth sides.
