Man Utd linked with former Pep Guardiola transfer target Jules Kounde… but Frenchman could cost whopping £72m

MANCHESTER UNITED are reportedly eyeing up a move for Seville centre-half Jules Kounde.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has got United well into the Premier League title race and may look for January additions to keep them at it.

And it could see him trump bitter rivals Manchester City to the signing of the talented Frenchman, according to Mundo Deportivo.
Pep Guardiola was interested in Kounde last summer, but City are reported to have seen a £50million bid rejected.
But if United want to nip and and snap up the 22-year-old they might have to match his £72m release fee.
While Harry Maguire is a shoe-in, Solskjaer has struggled to find consistency alongside the captain.

Victor Lindelof and Eric Bailly are the two fighting to bag the spot, but there are still questions over each.
Axel Tuanzebe is seen as one for the future having impressed when called upon.
Meanwhile one player who could head OUT of Old Trafford is Timothy Fosu-Mensah.
The 22-year-old’s current deal ends this summer and he is believed to be considering offers from clubs abroad.

The Mirror claims that United will ‘have to come up with an improved offer’ in order to persuade the player to stay at Old Trafford.
If Fosu-Mensah departs at the end of the season, United would end up with only a small training fee for a player who has not featured in the Premier League since the opening game against Crystal Palace.
He has featured only two other times for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side this season – as a sub in the Champions League.
The likes of Marseille and Hertha Berlin are believed to be in the running for the versatile Dutch international.

Timothy Fosu-Mensah’s Man Utd future in doubt after ‘rejecting new contract’ and can agree FREE transfer in January

MANCHESTER UNITED defender Timothy Fosu-Mensah has reportedly rejected a new three-and-a-half year contract.

He has featured only two other times for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side – as a sub in the Champions League.
The likes of Marseille and Hertha Berlin are believed to be in the running for the versatile Dutch international.

Sky Sports reports that both clubs ‘are prepared to pay a small transfer fee to sign him next month if it means getting ahead of the competition’.
Fosu-Mensah joined United from the famed Ajax academy in 2014.
He made his debut on February 28, 2016 when he came off the bench to replace Marcos Rojo in a 3-2 win against Arsenal.
In total he has made just 30 first-team appearances during his time in the north west.

Fosu-Mensah has spent time out on loan with Fulham and Crystal Palace, and also has three caps for Holland.
His first-team appearance stook a major hit when he picked up an ACL injury during his time with Fulham in 2019.
After a lengthy rehabilitation period after the operation, the rookie then picked up a quad muscle injury that kept him on the sidelines again.

Man Utd can end three-year trophy drought this season under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, insists David De Gea

DAVID DE GEA says belief is growing in Manchester United’s squad that they can end their trophy drought this season.
It is more than three years since the Red Devils last lifted silverware – but they go into the New Year still in with a shout in four competitions.

Their last gasp win over Wolves put Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men within two points of leaders Liverpool.
And De Gea feels the squad is ending 2020 with the type of winning mentality that has not been seen in the United squad for some time.
Asked if they would be hunting for trophies in the New Year, De Gea said: “Of course, I think there’s belief. You have to believe, keep believing all the time.
“But at the same time we have to be calm because this is a long way to finish, many games to come.

“I think we have now a winning mentality and this is very important for the team. All of us we want to win, we keep trying until the end.
“The manager wants us to try until the end. It was great to see the team trying to score until the last minute and then we scored a goal so it’s perfect for us.
“We are playing to win every game now so it’s beautiful to see the team playing to win, trying to create chances, to score goals.”
Despite some criticism that has come his way, Solskjaer looks to have improved United when you see the Premier League table.

De Gea agreed with that, saying: “I think so. At the moment we feel very strong, very confident so now we have to start 2021 like we finished this year.
“That’s with confidence, strong, with a winning mentality and game by game like we play a final of the cup every game so let’s go for it.”
While Marcus Rashford took the headlines with his last gasp winner against Wolves, United had De Gea to thank for keeping the score level before then.
The Old Trafford number one is in good form to keep England hopeful Dean Henderson waiting for his chance.
The Spaniard said: “Yeah, I feel very confident to be honest. I feel well.
“I am happy every time I can help the team like today, make some big saves to keep the clean sheets.
“The whole team I think we played a good game so, yeah, I’m really happy.”

He had been tracked by United scouts since 2016 after he was spotted at U15 level.
And they are finally set to get their man within the next weeks.
The transfer fee for the teenager is expected to rise to £37million including add-ons.
United beat Italian side Parma after an emotional Facetime call with Solskjaer convinced him to pick the Red Devils.

The deal was finalised back in October but he was unable to join up with them until a later date.
Now he has passed his medical and agreed personal terms, he has also received the green light for a work permit.
According to Norwegian journalist Fredrik A. Filtvedt, the teen is already working on his English.
And he is also trying to decide between two potential squad numbers with his new side.

Diallo reportedly has the choice of wearing either the 19 or 79 for United.
He has been playing with the Serie A side’s academy during the 2020-21 season but made history after his breakthrough to their first-team.
He scored on his debut, making him the first player born in 2002 to score in the Italian top-flight.
It is widely-believed he will link up with United’s U23 side upon his arrival in Manchester before moving up to join Solskjaer’s senior squad.

Odion Ighalo reveals he went hungry saving up his lunch money to watch Man Utd on TV as a kid in Nigeria

ODION IGHALO has revealed he would often go hungry so he could watch Manchester United on the TV by squirrelling away his lunch money as a kid in Nigeria.
The striker, 31, recalled how he would limit himself to a small lunch everyday in order to have enough money for the weekend game.

Now on the books of United himself, Ighalo has recalled his formative years in Nigeria and the sacrifice he made for his love of the beautiful game.
Ighalo told the Man Utd website: “I grew up in an area where everyone watched Premier League football.
“You either supported Manchester United or Arsenal or Chelsea back then.
“In my house, my brothers, my late sister, they supported Manchester United.

“When I grew up, my brother started taking me to the viewing centre to watch Manchester United.
“That’s how I fell in love with the team, watching Manchester United playing week in, week out.”
Ighalo went on to reveal he used to save half of his lunch money – often going hungry – for the weekend trip to the viewing centre.

The Nigerian continued: “I had to save money.

“Before you go to school, my mum would leave me some money if I wanted to eat lunch.
“From Monday I was saving my money because I wanted to watch Manchester United.
“Even though I would use part of the money for lunch, I would save some of the money because the weekend is coming.
“Sometimes you would be feeling hungry because you don’t eat properly, but you don’t want to miss the game at the weekend.
“You want to see it yourself. It’s that passion. You start saving money until the weekend.”
But Ighalo admitted it was all worth it when the week was done, adding: “After Friday when school is done, you see everyone get happy.
“They get their Manchester United shirt, their Arsenal shirt; you wash it and dry it.

Odion Ighalo spent £1m on an orphanage in Lagos, Nigeria, in 2017
“Everyone’s getting set for the weekend. It’s like a celebration, like you’re at a party.
“When the game started, sometimes it would be so hot because there was no air conditioning, then you have to take off your shirt and you’re fanning yourself.
“Then after the viewing centre, at the end of the game we’re arguing about the match from the viewing centre to our home.
“Sometimes I cry if Manchester United lose a game. You cry because you come home and see people arguing and saying bad things to you.
“Sometimes I shed tears because you don’t want your team to lose. That’s how crazy it was back then.”
Ighalo has never forgotten his roots and even splashed out to the tune of £1million to build an orphanage in Ijegun, a suburb in northern Lagos, in 2017.
The striker has been limited to just four first-team appearances this season after the summer arrival of Edison Cavani, with two of those run-outs coming in the Carabao Cup.

Former Arsenal star Robin van Persie names six best players he has played with, including four Man Utd legends

ROBIN VAN PERSIE named the six best players he played with in his career – and four of them were Manchester United legends.
The former Arsenal captain, who spent his last three seasons in England at Old Trafford, retired from football at the age of 35 last year.

Van Persie controversially moved to Manchester in 2012 having rejected a contract extension offer from Arsenal.
He then went on to win the Premier League title in his first season at Old Trafford.
And the Dutch striker seemingly has fond memories from his time in the red half of Manchester, naming four Red Devils stars among best players he shared the pitch with.
When asked to pick his most talented team-mate, he told BBC Sport: “So difficult to name one.

“I would go for Dennis Bergkamp, Thierry Henry, Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes, Wayne Rooney and Ruud van Nistelrooy.”
Van Nisterlooy in fact left Old Trafford in 2006 – long before Van Persie joined United.
But the two strikers played together for Holland, earning 172 caps and bagging 85 goals between them.
The former Arsenal skipper also labelled former Red Devils duo Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand as the best two defenders he ever faced.

    VANNA STAY?
Following a three-year spell at Fenerbahce, Van Persie moved back to his homeland to end his career at boyhood club Feyenoord.
And he claims he could have stayed at Old Trafford for one more season back in 2015 as he still had one year left on his contract.
But the striker decided to “move on” when then-United coach Louis van Gaal made it crystal clear he was not in his plans.
Van Persie said: “Because I had one more year on my deal, maybe I should have stayed.
“But then Van Gaal was the coach and he made it quite clear what his intentions were.

“Then you have to make a decision: Do you stay and fight for your place?
“Would it be an honest competition or not? Based on all that info, we decided to move on.
“But three years is not three days, it’s still a long period, it’s still a big part of my football career, and in total 11 years of football in England… as a kid I would never have dreamed of that.”

Man Utd linked with fresh Paulo Dybala transfer swoop but face competition from PSG with Pochettino keen on Juventus ace

MANCHESTER UNITED are once again being linked with a transfer swoop for Juventus striker Paulo Dybala.
But they could face some competition for the Argentine star if Mauricio Pochettino gets the Paris Saint-Germain job.

According to Tuttosport if Poch is the man chosen to replace Thomas Tuchel, he would be keen on signing countryman Dybala.
Pochettino tried unsuccessfully to bring Dybala to Tottenham during his tenure in North London.
United also came close to signing Dybala in the summer of 2019, but that move broke down over wages and agents’ fees.
SunSport has reported how Pochettino is in ‘advanced talks’ tp take over at PSG.

Pochettino has been out of a job since being sacked by Tottenham 13 months ago.
He had been holding out for the Manchester United job with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s position under constant scrutiny.
But after a disappointing start to the season Solskjaer has got United back into the title race and the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup.
Pochettino is now ready to take the jump back into management at the club where he played between 2001-03.

And his first transfer target when the window opens in the New Year will be one of his former players at Tottenham.
While Alli was a regular in Pochettino’s teams he has fallen out of favour with current boss Jose Mourinho.
Alli, 24, has started just five games this season and was hauled off shortly after Stoke equalised in their 3-1 Carabao Cup quarter-final victory on Wednesday and publicly blamed by Mourinho for their goal.
