Man Utd break Treble heroes’ record by extending unbeaten run away from home in Premier League to 18 games vs Arsenal

MANCHESTER UNITED have broken a club-record to go 18 Premier League games unbeaten away from home.
Sunday’s 0-0 draw with Arsenal was hardly the spectacle many might have hoped, but it put the current crop ahead of some pretty illustious company.

The result meant United’s 18 away games breaks the record previously held by the 1998/99 treble winning side.
That squad included the likes of Peter Schmeichel, Roy Keane, David Beckham, Gary Neville and of course United’s current boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
In a trophy-laden season, United went on a run of 33 games unbeaten in all competitions from December 26 1998.

They lost only twice away all season – to Arsenal and Sheffield Wednesday.
Sunday’s 0-0 draw at the Emirates was a milestone game for keeper David De Gea too.
The Spaniard has come if for a fair bit of criticism in recent months for a number of high-profile blunders.
But he remains Solskjaer’s first choice between the sticks, despite the promising Dean Henderson breathing down his neck.

It was the 30-year-old’s 150th clean sheet in all competitions for United.

He’s the fourth goalkeeper to reach this milestone for the club after the aforementioned Schmeichel (178), Alex Stepney (174) and Gary Bailey (161).
United are still firmly in title contention after a stunning turnaround in recent months.
And undoubtedly key to that has been midfielder Bruno Ferrnandes.
Since his arrival, no Premier League player has scored more than his 28 goals in all competitions.
The 26-year-old has also provided 18 assists to fire the Red Devils into title contention.

Classy Man Utd legend Sir Alex Ferguson ‘has given Steven Gerrard managerial tips’ after putting aside Liverpool rivalry

MANCHESTER UNITED legend Sir Alex Ferguson has put aside his rivalry with Liverpool to offer some advice to Kop idol Steven Gerrard.
Fergie, 79, spent 27 years in charge of United, often battling the Reds for domestic supremacy.

And 40-year-old Gerrard spent 26 years at Anfield, working his way through the youth ranks to become an iconic club captain.
But despite living in the middle of a fierce rivalry for the better part of three decades, Gerrard has revealed Ferguson kindly offered him some advice.
The managerial rookie has guided Rangers to 23 points clear atop the Scottish Premiership table and looks set to snap rivals Celtic’s nine-year winning streak.
And in an interview with the Daily Mail, Gerrard revealed he’s turned to Fergie for guidance, while hoping to one day seek wisdom from Arsenal legend Arsene Wenger and Leeds chief Marcelo Bielsa.

But the Ibrox chief has admitted he won’t stick to one style, like Pep Guardiola’s tiki-taka or Jurgen Klopp’s Gegenpress.
Gerrard claimed: “I don’t think you can nail yourself to one philosophy and say ‘this is the way I want to be’ or ‘this is what I want people to say about my teams’.
“I am really happy and content in the role I am in now but I am at a club that demands success and entertaining football.

“So you have to adapt and I have had to bring a philosophy here that I think will work for the Rangers supporters and will bring success.

“That means trying to be a really tough team to play against, an aggressive team in the right way, but also play football at the right times in the right areas of the pitch.
‘That is what we have tried to do here.
“When you talk about Sarri-ball and Bielsaball and Gegenpressing, those are media narratives about their identity.
“If I end up with an identity like that further on in my career, then great, but for me it’s about being able to adapt”
Gerrard also offered some advice for his old enemy, Man Utd – suggesting they’re a ‘couple of players short’, despite Bruno Fernandes’ reinvigorating the squad.
The Kop idol said: “United still seem a work in progress.
“You can see they have made massive strides. Bruno Fernandes has given everyone a massive boost.
“He has put confidence around the team, a bit similar to the way [Virgil] Van Dijk did at Liverpool.
“You still look and think they could be a couple of pieces short.
“But they are definitely much further along than where they were a couple of years back.”

Despite his incredible success at Rangers, Gerrard is adamant he’s not looking too far into the future, despite mumblings about him one day becoming Liverpool chief.
When asked if he’s keen to take the top job at the Kop one day, Gerrard said: “I get that question a lot.
“I don’t really want to get involved with it because it’s not something for me to be concerned with.
“They have got a fantastic, world class manager, they are on a real wave of success and as a fan that is an unbelievable place to be in.
“I am really proud of the club and the efforts of the last couple of years and I’m loving seeing Liverpool where they are right now.
“I need to focus on the job I’m in now which is a fantastic opportunity for me and a huge job.”

Police investigating louts who trolled Man Utd star Marcus Rashford with racist messages on social media

POLICE are investigating louts who trolled Manchester United star Marcus Rashford with racist messages on social media.
School meals hero Rashford, 23, revealed he was hit with a string of abusive slurs about his skin colour on Instagram on Saturday following his side’s 0-0 draw with Arsenal.

I’m not sharing screenshots. It would be irresponsible to do so and as you can imagine there’s nothing original in them. I have beautiful children of all colours following me and they don’t need to read it. Beautiful colours that should only be celebrated.

The England striker – who earned an MBE for his work towards ending food poverty – tweeted: “I’m a black man and I live every day proud that I am.
“No-one, or no one comment, is going to make me feel any different.
“So sorry if you were looking for a strong reaction, you’re just simply not going to get it here.
“I’m not sharing screenshots. It would be irresponsible to do so and as you can imagine there’s nothing original in them.

The abuse followed United’s Axel Tuanzebe, 23, and Anthony Martial, 24, both being trolled by racists after the club’s defeat by Sheffield United on Wednesday.
One comment on Tuanzebe’s Instagram account read ‘DAMNNN N*****’ as well as several monkey emojis on a photograph of his United shirt and number, posted two weeks ago.

On Sunday, Greater Manchester Police (GMP) blasted the online hate and said it was investigating the crimes after the comments were reported to them.

A spokesman said: “Nobody should be subject to such abuse and it is deeply upsetting not only to those who suffer it, but to all those who come across this awful language too.
“These hateful words have no place anywhere in our society whether online or otherwise.
“A number of these comments have been reported to us and we are liaising with those involved to provide support and we will be investigating these crimes thoroughly.”
The police investigation was launched less than a week after it emerged Facebook, Instagram and Twitter will be fined over footballer abuse if they fail to protect them under tough new rules.
After the abuse emerged on Saturday, Match of the Day legend Ian Wright fumed on the show: “It seems to be a fad now, a black player plays poorly or think they played poorly and they come with all the emojis.
“There’s ways of doing it. There’s ways of being able to catch people but I don’t think they’re vigilant enough, nowhere near.”
Fellow pundit Jermaine Jenas added: “It’s accountability. In my opinion, the platforms that be, whether it’s Instagram or Twitter, I need them to show me these people.
“That will tell me they are doing enough, doing everything they possibly can.”
Host Gary Lineker also said it should be a law for social media companies to tackle racial abusers and Wright was in agreement.
He said: “It should be a law as well. It’s something they should be doing hand-in-hand. How much do they care deep down?”

Chelsea star Reece James also revealed he was racially abused this weekCredit: 3
The attack on the United stars came less than 24 hours after Chelsea right-back Reece James was racially abused on social media.
He later posted on Instagram: “Human is our only race!”
On Saturday West Midlands cops arrested a man over racist messages sent to West Brom midfielder Romaine Sawyers.
Following the attack on their star man Rashford, United’s director of communications, Charlie Brooks, said the club’s players were ‘sick’ of the ‘hate-filled’ abuse online.
In a statement Rashford’s club said: “Everyone at Manchester United is disgusted by the racial abuse received by players via social media after last night’s game.
“We utterly condemn it and it is encouraging to see other fans condemn this on social media also.
“Manchester United has zero tolerance of any form of racism or discrimination and a long-standing commitment to campaigning against it through our All Red All Equal initiative.
“Identifying these anonymous mindless idiots remains problematic.
“We urge social media platforms and regulatory authorities to strengthen measures to prevent this kind of behaviour.”

Kick It Out chair Sanjay Bhandari said this week: ‘We are disappointed that players are continuing to be subject to racist abuse on their social platforms, it is completely unacceptable.
Facebook, which owns Instagram, said on Friday: “There is no place for racism on Instagram and we are committed to removing it when we find it.
“We know there is more to do and we will continue to work closely with clubs, players and football authorities to investigate instances of discrimination and collectively tackle this issue.
Twitter said in a statement: “Racist behaviour has no place on our service and when we identify accounts that violate any of the Twitter Rules, we take enforcement action.
“We have proactively engaged and continue to collaborate with our valued partners in football to identify ways to tackle this issue collectively.
“[We] will continue to play our part in curbing this unacceptable behaviour – both online and offline.”
Rashford was made an MBE for campaigning for free school meals and ensuring poorer children are provided with food during school holidays
The work – cited as more crucial than ever during lockdowns when children cannot attend school – saw several Government U-turns.

Man Utd and Liverpool accused of plotting to DESTROY football with Fifa and Real Madrid amid European Super League plans

LIVERPOOL and Manchester United have been accused of plotting with Fifa and Real Madrid to ‘DESTROY’ football.
LaLiga chief Javier Tebas says the ‘greedy’ Premier League giants have spent months scheming over an ‘obscene’ £4.6billion European Super League.

The Spaniard insists United’s US owner Joel Glazer and Liverpool’s John W Henry have been working with Fifa president Gianni Infantino plus Madrid supremo Florentino Perez on plans that will ‘ruin’ the game.
Tebas stormed: “This would be a disaster for football, it would destroy the ecosystem and balance of the game in Europe.
“This whole underground project started with Infantino and Perez — but the Glazers and Liverpool were active too and held meetings.
“They have all tried to keep it secret, before the stories emerged in October and since.”

SunSport first revealed plans for a breakaway Euro Super League and how the Big Six have been offered up to £310m in ‘founder-member’ money.
That’s on top of a minimum of £130m per season to be part of a closed shop of 20 teams.
Tebas says plans could be officially launched next month — with the other 14 Premier League clubs at the risk of losing £3bn between them.

He told SunSport: “Is it just about greed? You can define that how you like — but that’s the idea.

“This Super League project is going to ruin the Champions League. That’s what they’re looking for.
“The Champions League disappears — and the money it generates, they want to divide this up between themselves.”
Man Utd legend Gary Neville branded the plans ‘obscene’, adding: “Football is going to eat itself.
“We are in the middle of a pandemic — with the game on its knees.”
Liverpool, United, Fifa and Real Madrid declined to respond to Tebas’ allegations.
But in November, United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward insisted he would work through the European Club Association on ‘the strengthening of existing Uefa club competitions.’
At the time, Woodward said: “The dialogue focuses on them continuing to be predominantly mid-week games, having little or no impact on the Premier League.”

Man Utd star Scott McTominay goes off with upset stomach in crunch Arsenal clash in huge blow to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

MANCHESTER UNITED were dealt a huge blow after Scott McTominay went off with what appeared to be an upset stomach at Arsenal.
The Scottish midfielder, 24, has been a mainstay in the heart of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s midfield this season.

But McTominay went off clutching his stomach just over half an hour into first-half of the massive game at the Emirates – which ended 0-0.
The United midfielder appeared to be struggling for much of the first-half, with his mobility clearly hampered.
McTominay was eventually replaced by Anthony Martial, who had been dropped in favour of Edinson Cavani for the London showdown.
Paul Pogba – who had started in a wide position – slipped back into McTominay’s role with the game evenly poised.

Interestingly, Solskjaer opted for Martial instead of Donny van de Beek – a more like-for-like option.
Van de Beek came off the bench during the 2-1 loss to Sheffield United.
That game was his first appearance in the Premier League since the December 20 thumping of Leeds.

But he was snubbed in favour of Martial in a bold move from Solskjaer at the Emirates – with the Frenchman ultimately unable to help break the deadlock.

Meanwhile, United were given a boost earlier on Saturday after new-boy Amad Diallo scored twice for the Under-23s.
Diallo, 18, starred in a 6-3 win over Liverpool, even netting a cheeky Panenka penalty.
The winger completed his move from Atalanta earlier this month and recently enjoyed his first training session at United.

Brazilian wonderkid Gabriel Veron should snub Man Utd transfer for rivals City to work with Guardiola, claims Rivaldo

BRAZILIAN wonderkid Gabriel Veron should snub a move to Manchester United and move to City instead, according to Rivaldo.
Both Manchester clubs are hot on the trail of the £28million-rated Palmeiras forward.

Rivaldo reckons a move to Man City would be better for Veron in the long run

Barcelona had also been keen on Veron, 18, before pulling out of the race as they couldn’t compete financially.
Now Brazil legend Rivaldo has claimed Veron should link up with Pep Guardiola and NOT Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for the good of his career.
Rivaldo told Betfair: “There are strong rumours that Manchester United and Manchester City are chasing Gabriel Veron’s signing from Palmeiras.
“I think whoever wins this particular fight will be properly rewarded.

⚽ Read our Man United live blog for the latest news from Old Trafford
“Veron has lots of talent and a bright future ahead so it’s no coincidence to see two big English clubs chasing him.
“He could perform for either club without problems.
“If he has the choice between the two clubs, I suggest City.

“They are the more stable club nowadays, with a solid tactical system implemented by Pep Guardiola.

“[That] is not the case with Manchester United, despite also being a fantastic club.”
Veron has bagged nine goals and three assists in 34 appearances for Palmeiras this season.
The teenager – who can play through the middle or on the wings – is under contract until 2025 and has a release clause of £52m.
Palmeiras are believed to be willing to sell for as low as £17.5m, but are hoping to command a fee of closer to £30m.
Veron has been likened to Gabriel Jesus – who also took the leap from Palmeiras to Man City himself in 2017.

Roy Keane admits he never warmed to Man Utd team-mates Rooney and Ferdinand as he lifts lid on bust-up over X Factor

ROY KEANE revealed he never warmed to Wayne Rooney in the Manchester United dressing room.
The former Irish hardman says he did not get the England striker or team-mate Rio Ferdinand’s banter – and did not miss them after he left the Red Devils.

Manchester United legend Roy Keane claimed he never warmed to Wayne Rooney or Rio Ferdinand

Keane, 49, reckons he was not on the same wavelength as Roo, who is 14 years his junior.
And that was highlighted during their playing days on a trip to Newcastle where the night before in the hotel Keane was watching rugby league on the TV before Rooney changed channel to watch the X Factor and hid the remote control.
Roo – who recently retired from playing to become permanent Derby manager – claimed later it led to an argument between the pair and Keane respected him for standing up to him.
But Keane, speaking on Sky Sports’ The Football Show last year, said: “We certainly didn’t have an argument, let me tell you.

“I like my rugby league and yeah, someone did change the channel and I wasn’t happy.
“But we didn’t have an argument about it. I came down for breakfast the next day and Wayne said ‘Did you find the control?’
“So I told him where to go. If that’s an argument, god help us. I certainly didn’t respect Wayne because he stood up to me and wanted to watch the X Factor.
“I had a lot of respect for Wayne because I thought he was a brilliant player.

Keane played with Rooney at Old Trafford between 2004-2005Credit: PA:Empics Sport

“I wouldn’t say I warmed to the guy, I certainly didn’t dislike him. But the lad’s on a different wavelength, different banter and if hiding the control was his type of banter then…not for me.”
Keane made 480 appearances for United in 12 years, but he said: “Near the end I remember thinking I don’t get some of the boys.
“I don’t get their banter or humour. I rarely had a conversation with anyone.
“When I left there were a lot of players I didn’t miss. The game was changing and maybe I was a bit grumpy, a bit old school.
“I didn’t get Wayne or Rio, I didn’t get their banter or what they stood for sometimes. It was probably a personal thing.
“The game was changing and I had changed with it but towards the end at United with the players coming through I didn’t always get them.
“Personality-wise they were not for me. Obviously they were very good players and I was delighted to play with them but in terms of banter or having a cup of coffee with them? No forget it.”

Roy Keane reveals he once had a fight with Peter Schmeichel in a hotel – leaving Sir Alex Ferguson fuming More
