But thankfully the procedure was a success, and after less than a month Fergie was back at home being nursed back to health by his loved ones.
Now the 79-year-old is set to speak about the time he fought for his life in ‘Sir Alex Ferguson: Never Give In’, out in the cinemas from May 27.
It will then be available exclusively on Amazon Prime from May 29.
Directed by his son Jason, the documentary will recount the most important stories of his life, both in and out of football.

Speaking about the film, Fergie said: “Losing my memory was my biggest fear when I suffered a brain haemorrhage in 2018.
“In the making of this film I was able to revisit the most important moments of my life, good and bad.
“Having my son Jason direct this film has ensured an honest and intimate account.”
The documentary vows to show the football legend vividly recalling his career – recounting the stories behind his most influential defeats, trophies and players.

It charts his move from his own successful playing career and prolific goal-scoring at Scottish clubs, including Rangers, to his move into management and leading Aberdeen to the European Cup Winners’ Cup and then finally his move south to Old Trafford.
After a testing few years at United, he turned the club’s fortunes around and led them to over two decades of consistent success.
Under Ferguson’s guidance, Manchester United won a glittering array of trophies, including 13 Premier League titles, five FA Cups and two UEFA Champions League titles.
He has won more trophies than any other manager in football history.
The film features candid interviews with Sir Alex himself, his wife Cathy, his three sons, as well as former colleagues and elite players including Eric Cantona, Ryan Giggs, Gordon Strachan and Archie Knox.

Rio Ferdinand almost in tears at Sir Alex Ferguson’s heartwarming text about Man Utd wonderkid Ravel Morrison

MANCHESTER UNITED legend Rio Ferdinand has claimed he was almost reduced to tears after reading Sir Alex Ferguson’s text message about Ravel Morrison.
The BT Sport pundit was joined by his former team-mate on his FIVE YouTube channel where he read out text messages from their ex-manager.

Morrison only featured in three first team appearances for United before he was sold to West Ham in January 2012.
And the Jamaica international spoke of how he failed to maximise his potential at Old Trafford after making his debut as a 17-year-old.
Ferdinand revealed that Ferguson told him Morrison’s footballing ability was on the same level as Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs, but he was ultimately ‘beaten by his background’.
Welcoming the 28-year-old to his podcast, Ferdinand stated: “Everyone wants to know about Ravel Morrison. Child superstar.

“Sir Alex Ferguson texted me this morning and said you was on a par with Scholes and Giggs at 15. He’s never seen anything like it.”
He later read out another message from Fergie, as he added: “Rio, my first and last impression of Ravel as a young lad was that he has always got time and space, always available to be on the ball, so unusual for a young lad of his age.
“Give my regards to him please. Another thing about Ravel which I’ve always treasured, because no other young player who made their debut did this.
“After the first game in the first team that he played, the next morning he came into my office and gave me a letter, thanking me for giving him his debut.

“I was gobsmacked Rio. The boy had a good heart, he was just beaten by his background.”
Ferdinand admitted that the honest and open text made him emotional, as he stated: “I almost started crying.”
And Morrison was also left touched by his mentor’s message, as he stressed he would do things differently if he had the chance.
He said: “When I made my debut – words can’t describe that you know.
“Making your debut for Man United it was only a minute as well.
“It touches you because if I could go back in time I would change 90 per cent of my life.”
Morrison also declared that he used to steal boots from the dressing room to sell to help feed his family.

Ravel Morrison reveals ‘I’d change 90 per cent of my life’ as Sir Alex says Man Utd kid was ‘beaten by his background’

FORMER Manchester United starlet Ravel Morrison has revealed he would change ’90 per cent’ of his life if he could go back to his senior debut.
The 28-year-old was one of the club’s most promising prospects when he made his debut against Wolves in the League Cup in 2010 when he was just 17.

But he would make just two more appearances for the Red Devils before he joined West Ham in January 2012.
Morrison – currently a free agent after his contract at Dutch side ADO Den Haag was cancelled last month – appeared on Rio Ferdinand’s FIVE YouTube channel to reflect on his career.
And he was left stunned after his ex-team-mate read out a text message he received from former boss Sir Alex Ferguson, who declared Morrison was ‘beaten by his background’.
Ferdinand said: “Rio, my first and last impression of Ravel as a young lad was that he has always got time and space, always available to be on the ball, so unusual for a young lad of his age.

Morrison – who revealed in November that Wayne Rooney once smashed up his BlackBerry – was taken aback by Ferguson’s comments.

Moved by his mentor’s words, he stated: “When I made my debut – words can’t describe that you know.
“Making your debut for Man United it was only a minute as well.
“It touches you because if I could go back in time I would change 90 per cent of my life.”
The ex-Lazio man also claimed that he used to steal boots from the dressing room to sell to help feed his family.
He admitted he would sneak in the changing room to snatch the gear, then sell pairs for £250 each and use the cash to buy takeaways.
Speaking on Rio’s Vibe With Five podcast, Ravel added: “I didn’t mean it to cause so much harm.
“When I used to see yours or Rooney’s deliveries, you would get like 20 or 30 pairs a time.
“So I’m thinking, ‘one pair of boots to put some food and money on the table at my home’. I didn’t think it would be a big problem.”

Man Utd youngster Dylan Levitt joins Croatian minnows NK Istra on loan transfer until end of season to win Euros spot

MANCHESTER UNITED youngster Dylan Levitt has joined Croatian minnows NK Istra on loan until the end of the season.
The 20-year-old midfielder spent the first half of the season on loan at League One side Charlton.

But Levitt was recalled six months early having played just five times.
Desperate for a spot in Wales’ squad for this summer’s delayed European Championship, Levitt has jumped at the chance at another move.
The Croatian transfer window is one of few in Europe still open.
And Levitt is eager to get down to work at NK Istra – the bottom-ranked club in the Croatian top-flight.

Levitt’s agent, Ivan Omrcen, revealed: “He immediately agreed to comewhen we explained how much he will have to give in Istria.
    “Dylan loves challenges.”
The loan deal does not include an option to make the move permanent in the summer, with United keen to cling on to the young midfielder and monitor his progression.
But reports claim Levitt is excited at the prospect of a stint abroad, surprised and impressed by the scouting from the Croatian basement-boys.

NK Istra sit tenth in the ten-team division with 14 points from their 20 games, four points adrift of ninth-placed NK Lokomotiva.
European giants Dinamo Zagreb are streets ahead atop the pile on 48 points, above the likes of Hajduk Split and Rijeka.
Levitt has played just once for Man Utd, having been given his debut by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in the Europa League loss to Astana in November 2019.
The young midfielder hopes a run of games in the build-up to the summer will help secure himself a spot in the Wales squad for the upcoming Euros.

Man Utd star Anthony Martial subjected to vile racist abuse after West Brom draw.. the latest incident in worrying trend

ANTHONY MARTIAL has once again been targeted by racist trolls following Manchester United’s draw with West Brom.
The France striker – along with club team-mate Axel Tuanzebe – were both on the receiving end of horrific abuse following the loss at the hands of Sheffield Utd on January 27.

And Martial was subjected to yet more disgraceful taunts on social media after the West Brom game, despite social media vowing to clamp down on racists.
Martial, 25, started the game at The Hawthorns, but was replaced by Mason Greenwood after 66 minutes of the 1-1 stalemate.
Immediately after the match, the United star was subjected to racist abuse on Instagram just days after their vow to crack down on vile trolls.
Sick racists posted horrifying messages to various posts on his Instagram page, including the use of abusive emojis and the N-word.

It is just the latest incident in a string of worrying racist attacks aimed at players.
Tuanzebe and Martial were abused after the loss against Sheff Utd.
Team-mate Marcus Rashford was targeted after the 0-0 draw with Arsenal.
Southampton teenager Alex Jankewitz was also among the many footballers to be attacked in recent weeks.

Chelsea pair Reece James and Antonio Rudiger were both sent racist abuse, as well as James’ sister and Red Devils star Lauren.
West Brom’s Romaine Sawyers was also on the receiving end of some abhorrent abuse last month – with a man arrested.
Swansea and Manchester City said they were ‘appalled’ and ‘saddened’ as police opened an investigation into racist abuse sent to Yan Dhanda earlier this week.
Instagram admitted their systems have struggled to block many of the abusive posts because they do not routinely screen direct messages as they are supposed to be private.
But the company – owned by Facebook – have vowed to act more quickly in banning those behind the racist messages.
They have also promised to work with police as much as possible to prosecute the abusers.
Instagram has vowed to make it easier for users to use settings to block terms or emojis from reaching them.
They also say it is working on a new feature – planned for roll-out later this year – which will improve the ability to stop abusive DMs reaching them.

Man Utd face transfer battle for Sevilla ace Jules Kounde as Barcelona join Real Madrid in chase for £60m-rated defender

MANCHESTER UNITED face a fight to sign Jules Kounde – with Barcelona and Real Madrid joining the hunt for the Sevilla star.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is desperate to sign an elite centre-back to partner £85million man Harry Maguire next season, with question marks lingering over Victor Lindelof and Eric Bailly.

Kounde, 22, has emerged as a United target in recent weeks and could fill the void at the top of their wishlist after the Red Devils seemingly missed out on Dayot Upamecano to Bayern Munich.
But the United again face competition from some of Europe’s biggest clubs, this time from LaLiga giants Barca and Real.
Sevilla value their young defender at around £60million after a superb start to life in Spain.
Kounde only joined Sevilla in the summer of 2019 from Ligue 1 side Bordeaux.

In that time he has gone on to play 63 matches – including last season’s Europa League final win over Inter Milan.
Kounde has now become one of the most-sought-after players in Europe.
While United want the France Under-21 international to partner Maguire, Madrid are desperate for some defensive reinforcements of their own.
Los Blancos could lose Raphael Varane AND Sergio Ramos this summer.

Club captain Ramos has stalled on signing a new contract, with his current deal expiring in June.
And Madrid chiefs have claimed they could cash-in on Varane for around £44m.
With just 18 months left on his current contract, Bernabeu bosses are worried they could lose Varane for nothing.
Barcelona are keen to bring in Kounde as well in a bid to add some steel to an otherwise shaky back-line.
The Nou Camp giants have shipped 24 goals from their 21 games this season, compared to Sevilla – who’ve allowed just 16 goals from 22 matches.
It’s believed Barca view Kounde as a long-term replacement for 34-year-old club legend Gerard Pique.

Keane, 49, has famously voiced his displeasure with stars’ online antics, from singalongs and celebrations to fashion lines.
And just last weekend he couldn’t have looked more disgusted when Micah Richards showed him the hilarious clip of his FIFA 21 character dancing.
Yet the Irishman has now taken the plunge and joined the masses on Instagram.
Incredibly, within hours he already boasted over 400,000 followers. Although, true to character, he was following NOBODY.

And his new followers were treated to an adorable profile picture of a beaming Keane as a child.
Meanwhile, the dog-loving ex-midfuelder decided to mark his first post by showing his affectionate side as he uploaded a snap of himself and his pooch.
Captioning the image, he said: “A man’s best friend.”
His Sky Sports colleague Richards immediately commented on the post as he expressed his delight, messaging, “He’s here,” followed by a number of laughing face emojis.

Sky’s Super Sunday and Monday Night Football host David Jones quipped: “Welcome … this could be interesting.”
Keane’s former United team-mate Andy Cole added: “Love it skip.”
