Solskjaer says Cavani could stay at Man Utd despite dad’s transfer bombshell and jokes summer heat will change his mind

OLE GUNNAR SOLSKJAER has revealed Edinson Cavani could STAY at Manchester United – and hopes the summer sun will convince him to stay at Old Trafford.
Earlier this week, the Uruguayan striker’s dad, Luis, claimed his son is unhappy in England and is almost certain to head home to South America.

But Solskjaer has revealed he’s thrilled with Cavani’s contributions – while claimed the player himself is ‘proud’ to be at Man Utd.
Solskjaer said: “I cannot comment on what has been said, I can only say that we’re very pleased with Edinson.
“He’s really helping the young kids, as we wanted him to.
“We knew he wasn’t going to be able to play every single game. He helps the rest of the group with his mentality.

“He will make his decision and he knows that we are very fond of what he’s given to the club, even though he’s probably played less games than he wanted.
“Edinson’s fully focused on being available for us and working really hard to get fit.
“He’s very proud to play for Man Utd. He’s always going to give his best.
“If it’s beyond this season as well… a decision hasn’t been made.”

Solskjaer then joked: “As we’ve said, he’s made a great contribution so far. We’ll convince him when the weather in Manchester improves!”
On Tuesday, Luis told TyC Sports: “My son does not feel comfortable in England and wants to be close to the family again.
“Edinson is going to end up playing in South America.
“I want Edinson to play in a team that fights for something important.
“Edinson had many conversations with [Boca vice-president Juan Roman] Riquelme and he would like to play for Boca.
“He was always seduced by the idea of playing in Boca. If he returns to South America he is leaning towards Boca.”

Luis even went as fair as confirming Cavani would quit United this summer.
He continued: “By the middle of the year he will return to South America.
“My son’s idea is not to continue there, he wants to return.”
Earlier this week, SunSport revealed Cavani is demanding answers from United regarding his future having only joined on a free from Paris Saint-Germain last summer.
Cavani has scored six goals, adding two assists, in 18 Premier League games this season after carving out a role as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s No1 central striker.

Man Utd youngster Charlie McNeill, 17, forced to apologise for ‘disrespectful’ interview about Liverpool

MANCHESTER UNITED starlet Charlie McNeill has apologised following comments he made in an interview about possibly facing Liverpool in the FA Youth Cup.
The striker – who scored in the Red Devils’ 2-0 victory against Salford City in the third round on Wednesday – admitted he is relishing the prospect of coming up against the Reds.

Neil Ryan’s side will pit their wits against the Merseyside outfit on April 3 should Liverpool beat Sutton United next week.
Speaking of the potential derby clash, McNeill, 17, said: “We will look to go all the way in this competition.
“And next round we will play Liverpool if they win, which is obviously a derby and an amazing game to play in.”
Before adding: “It’s a derby like I said and it would be great to win that game and rub it in their faces as well.”

Though his interview left United fans delighted, McNeill has since taken to his Instagram story to apologise for his ‘disrespectful’ comments.
He posted: “I just wanted to say my interview last night, I said a thing I probably shouldn’t have said and I wasn’t trying to be disrespectful to anyone!
“I have learnt from my mistake and I’ll take this on into the future.”
McNeill was recently on the winning side against Liverpool, as he scored the only goal of the game in the 1-0 victory earlier this month.

Cavani ‘wants to leave Man Utd to be with model girlfriend Jocelyn Burgardt in South America for birth of second child’

THE pregnancy of Edinson Cavani’s model girlfriend has been cited as one of the reasons the striker is planning to return to South America.
Argentine press are reporting Jocelyn Burgardt is close to having the couple’s second child and they want to be in Uruguay in June so the birth can take place there.

Edinson Cavani’s partner is pregnant with their second child

Hugo Balassone, a journalist on the popular TyC Sports programme in Argentina, claimed last month Jocelyn was pregnant and had returned to Uruguay ahead of the child’s birth.
Referring during a TV appearance to former Manchester United defender Marcos Rojo, now with Boca Juniors, he said: “Rojo mentioned in Boca that he met with Cavani and the Uruguayan told him ‘Wait for me because I’ll be there with you in June’.”
Moments later he added: “The other piece of important information is that Cavani’s partner is pregnant and living in Uruguay.”
The 34-year-old is said to be eyeing a move to Boca Juniors after just one season at United, although Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said on Wednesday he was hoping to convince Cavani to stay when the weather in Manchester improved.

His dad Luis claimed his son did not feel ‘comfortable’ in Manchester and wanted to be closer to his family in an interview earlier this week with TyC Sports, but made no mention of Jocelyn’s pregnancy.
The couple’s daughter India turns two in May and Cavani also has two sons called Bautista and Lucas from his relationship with former wife and childhood sweetheart Maria Soledad Cabris.
Argentine media outlet Infobae cited Jocelyn’s pregnancy as one of the three reasons the striker wants out of Old Trafford.
They also added that his close relationship with Boca vice-president Juan Roman Riquelme and his unhappiness at his three-match ban earlier this season for using the word ‘negrito’ in an online post were other reasons he wanted to leave.

It said: “His partner Jocelyn Burgardt is close to giving birth and the family’s idea is to return to Uruguay in June to welcome the new heir.
“After having been away from each other for so long, the Cavani family will be united once again or just a few hundred miles apart if Cavani ends up forming part of Argentinian football.”
Jocelyn, first linked to Cavani in 2014, keeps a low profile and her Instagram is private.
She was last pictured in a touching family video the Manchester United frontman posted in January on his social media, showing him painting his daughter’s hands before placing her right palm on his left cheek.
The pretty 29-year-old, a keen dancer who has starred regularly in the annual carnival which takes place in the Uruguayan city of Bella Union, looked on affectionately as the couple’s pet dog walked past in the background.

She was sat with her legs crossed and there was no obvious sign of a baby bump, although her stomach was hidden under a cardigan and little India was in front of her most of the time.
Cavani, who insisted he was proud to wear the Man United shirt in an Instagram post on Wednesday, revealed last October he nearly quit football after Jocelyn contracted coronavirus.
He also tested positive after a holiday in Ibiza with his partner where they enjoyed a dinner with former PSG teammates including Angel di Maria and Mauro Icardi.

The footballer said afterwards: “Family health comes first. Of course I thought about quitting football.
“I considered that option and the possibility of stopping playing and staying in the countryside and dedicating myself to country life because of the situation.
“We all suffered with coronavirus and the truth is that it was bad because of the fear it causes. Thanks God we recovered and it evolved well and here we are.”
Cavani and his wife split in 2014 after allegations of infidelity levelled against the footballer shortly after the birth of Lucas.
Their marriage was blown apart after the publication of a photo while Cavani was playing for Naples, showing him with his arms round a young Italian journalist named at the time as Maria Rosario Ventrone.

Maria Soledad was quoted at the time in Italian press as saying: “Edinson has betrayed God, the God he strongly believes in. He’s betrayed his family.”
The star couple’s subsequent divorce was heavily played out in the Uruguayan press.
After his split from Maria Soledad, Cavani insisted: “A divorce is always difficult. It’s a failure. But I’m divorcing my wife, not my children.
“I’ve always behaved in a clear and unmistakable way towards them. I’ve always fulfilled my obligations towards them and will make sure they have all they need now and in the future.”
Cavani’s romance with Ventrone was short-lived and she blasted him after their split by claiming in an interview: “He left me nine months after we started living together.
“He was very jealous, almost possessive and I still don’t know why we finished.”
The United striker is said to have met his current partner through Uruguayan footballer Gaston Ramirez.

Man Utd ace Max Taylor eyed by Portsmouth on free transfer after 21-year-old battled back from testicular cancer

PORTSMOUTH are eyeing up a free swoop for Manchester United defender Max Taylor as he continues his fight back from cancer.
The centre-back, 21, was diagnosed with testicular cancer in November 2018.

But he is back on the pitch aiming to get his career back on track.
Taylor is out of contract at Man Utd at the end of the season.
And he is currently enjoying a trial spell at Portsmouth – most-recently playing all 90 minutes of the 2-1 reserve team win over Luton on Tuesday.
Pompey are now keeping tabs on Taylor’s situation, keen to make his trial spell permanent in the summer.

Taylor has been at the Old Trafford giants since the age of 14.
Having worked his way into first-team reckoning in 2018, the defender was hit by his devastating cancer diagnosis a little over two years ago.
A lump on his testicle was initially treated with antibiotics but quickly came back and was revealed to be something much more sinister.
Taylor, who was given the all-clear following ‘risky’ surgery and chemotherapy in February 2019, later revealed he feared he would die.

Taylor required ‘risky’ surgery and chemotherapy to be given the all-clear from cancer

After making the first-team squad for the Europa League game against Astana later that year, Taylor has since drifted out of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s plans.
Taylor had spent time on loan at Kidderminster and Stalybridge Celtic before his trial at Portsmouth.
The centre-back has played in one EFL Trophy game for the Under-21s this season – the 6-0 win over Salford.
Taylor – formerly known as Max Dunne – has also played once in the PL2 for the Under-23s, a 2-1 win over Southampton in February.

Man Utd to wait until summer to make Jules Kounde transfer decision with Solskjaer eyeing defender to partner Maguire

MANCHESTER UNITED will wait until the summer to make a decision about Sevilla star Jules Kounde, according to reports.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen to bring in a top-quality centre-back to partner Harry Maguire next season.

Victor Lindelof, 26, has been solid if unspectacular alongside the skipper this season.
Old Trafford legend Gary Neville recently described the partnership between Maguire and Lindelof as a big ‘problem’.
Eric Bailly, also 26, has looked more impressive when fit.
The Ivorian’s form has led Man Utd officials to believe he could be the man to partner Maguire, 28, in the heart of defence if he can finally stay injury-free.

Bailly is likely to be given until the end of the season to prove Solskjaer can spend his summer funds elsewhere.
However, should the former Villarreal defender fail to stay healthy and in form, United are expected to look to Kounde in the summer, according to Eurosport.
Kounde, 22, has become one of the highest-rated youngsters in Europe since arriving from Bourdeaux in the summer of 2019.
But the Frenchman is also attracting interest from European heavyweights Bayern Munich, Real Madrid and Juventus.

And Sevilla are now hoping to command a fee of around £60million for their in-demand defender.
Kounde has played 35 times for Sevilla in all competitions this term, even chipping in with three goals.
Meanwhile, United have been looking at other defensive targets.
Dayot Upamecano was an early front-runner, before Bayern Munich beat them to the punch.
Real Madrid duo Sergio Ramos and Raphael Varane have both also been linked with summer moves to Old Trafford.
Los Blancos are tempted to cash-in on Varane with his contract expiring at the end of next season.
Ramos is still yet to put pen to paper on a new contract at the Bernabeu and is set to walk away on a free this summer.

Five goalkeepers Man Utd could sign in summer with David de Gea AND Dean Henderson’s future still up-in-air

MANCHESTER UNITED could be in the hunt for a new keeper this summer with doubts over David de Gea and Dean Henderson.
Current No1 De Gea is on leave after the birth of his baby girl, but his form on the pitch has been patchy for a while.

Henderson is seemingly not happy to stay as back-up much longer, and enjoyed a stunning campaign last season on loan at Sheffield United.
The next few games could be vital for Henderson to prove to boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer that he should be the future between the sticks.
Here, SunSport checks out five keepers who could be on United’s shortlist to take on the gloves next season.
    Jan Oblak
The Red Devils have been tracking the Slovenian star, 28, for over a year, dating back to De Gea’s long-running contract saga.

However, it’s looking increasingly likely United will NOT be able to afford Oblak’s sensational £103million release clause.
With two years still to run on his Atletico Madrid contract the Spaniards might need something in return – maybe their former keeper De Gea to replace him…

    Gianluigi Donarumma
Donarumma, 22, is out of contract at the end of the season at AC Milan.

But United could face stiff competition with Milan having reportedly opened talks over an extension with the keeper.
And Chelsea are also said to be keen.

    Mike Maignan
Lille’s Maignan was voted the best keeper in the French top flight for the 2018/19 campaign and earned his first France call-up for the Euro 2020 qualifiers at the end of that season
After an impressive run last season, Lille valued the 24-year-old at £31m.
Chelsea have previously been credited with an interest in Maignan before they signed countryman Edouard Mendy from Rennes

    Kasper Schmeichel
It would be an emotional one to see Kasper follow in his famous father’s footsteps and guard the goal at Old Trafford.
While he has not hinted he wants to leave Leicester, at 34 if United come knocking the Dane might find it hard to resist.
A seasoned Premier League player and still at the very top of his game, Schmeichel would be a top signing.

    Nick Pope
A dark-horse choice, but Pope has seen off competition from Tom Heaton and Joe Hart at Burnley and is vying with Jordan Pickford to start for England at the Euros.
Still only 28, Pope could be a long-term solution to United’s keeper conundrum.
Visibly fuming when he concedes goals, Pope prides himself on clean sheets, and a move to United would aid his chances of ousting Pickford for England.

Diogo Dalot ‘yet to hold talks over permanent Man Utd transfer exit’ as AC Milan prepare for Europa League last-16 clash

DIOGO DALOT is yet to hold talks over a permanent move away from Manchester United as he prepares to go up against his old club in the Europa League, according to his agent.
The Portuguese full-back, 21, is currently on loan at AC Milan after falling out of favour under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Dalot has played 20 times for the Serie A giants this season, including all eight of their Europa League games.
Milan next face Man Utd in the last-16 of Europe’s second tier, with the first leg on Thursday.
And despite being a regular fixture in Stefano Pioli’s squad, Dalot is yet to hold talks regarding his future, according to his agent, Carlos Goncalves.
Goncalves told Calciomercato: “When he came to Milan, he knew he was arriving at a great club for history and tradition, one of the best in the world.

“For this, he chose the Rossoneri. And when you play for a team like this, it’s normal to compete for the Scudetto.
“There’s an excellent relationship with [Zlatan] Ibrahimovic and the other team-mates, he’s happy in Milan.
“Thursday will be a very special match for him.
“Right now he’s a Milan player, on loan from Manchester United, but he wants to do well for his current club.

“If he was playing against another team, it wouldn’t have been different.”
Goncalves continued: “At the right time, his future will also be discussed.
“He has to train at his best and take advantage of every opportunity, the rest will take care of itself.
“There’s no contact now, but it’s normal. The focus is all on the field.
“Later we will talk about it and we’ll see what happens.”
Dalot signed for United from Porto under Jose Mourinho’s leadership in the summer of 2018 for a fee of around £17.4million.
At the time, the Special One called the then-19-year-old the ‘best young full-back in Europe’.
But, to date, he has only played 35 times for the club – including just 20 Premier League games.

Man Utd ‘enter Jan Oblak transfer race with De Gea future in doubt… but £103m Atletico Madrid release clause an issue’

MANCHESTER UNITED are stepping up their pursuit of Atletico Madrid superstar Jan Oblak – but look unlikely to be able to afford his staggering release clause, according to reports.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is in the market for a new goalkeeper in the summer transfer window.

David de Gea could still be keen on a move back to Madrid to be with wife and their new-bornCredit: Splash News

Sergio Romero finally looks set to quit on a free, while David de Gea’s future at the club is looking increasingly unclear.
The Spanish stopper, 30, recently returned to Madrid to be with partner Edurne for the birth of their first child.
And it has only further fuelled speculation De Gea – famously on the brink of a deadline day move to Real Madrid in 2015 – is pushing for a move the Spanish capital, where his wife works as a TV reporter.
Elsewhere, Dean Henderson is yet to prove himself capable to taking on the No1 jersey full-time.

And United have taken a look at Oblak – as well as AC Milan ace Gianluigi Donnarumma and Lille’s Mike Maignan – in a bid to fix their dilemma, according to Sky Sports.
The Red Devils have been tracking the Slovenian star, 28, for over a year, dating back to De Gea’s long-running contract saga.
However, it’s looking increasingly likely United will NOT be able to afford Oblak’s sensational £103million release clause.
The Atleti stopper – who is keen on the ‘attractive’ Premier League – still has over two years to run on his current contract, with the LaLiga leaders unlikely to allow him to leave for less.

That could force Solskjaer and Co to look elsewhere, with Milan ace Donnarumma available on a free this summer, as things stand.
Lille stopper Maignan would also represent a cheaper alternative, valued at around £20m.
Should United have their heart set on Oblak, they could use De Gea as bait.
The Spaniard played for Atletico Madrid before his move to Old Trafford – between 2003 and 2011, working his way through the youth ranks to the first-team.
The report suggest, Man Utd may attempt to use De Gea as a makeweight to reduce the up front fee on Oblak.
