And he started seven matches for them this season before injury struck, ruling him out since December.

Charlie Savage, 17, signs first pro contract with Man Utd after admitting McTominay – not dad Robbie – is role model

CHARLIE SAVAGE has been handed his first professional contract at Manchester United as a reward for his fine form this season. The 17-year-old midfielder – son of former Leicester and Derby ace Robbie – has chipped in with two goals and five assists in 17 U-18 Premier League matches.

The Wales youth international was even called up to two Premier League 2 fixtures in March having impressed for Neil Ryan’s U18 side this term.
And Savage took to Twitter to announce the news, as he published a photo of himself signing his deal.
Captioning the post, he said: “Delighted to have signed my first professional contract at Manchester United.
“I would like to thank all of my friends, family and everyone at New Era Global Sports for all their support.
    “The hard work continues.”
Savage recently told SunSport that Red Devils star Scott McTominay is his role model, instead of his father who also came through the Manchester United academy.
He stated: “The main inspiration for me is Scott — he’s the best with us. He comes over to talk to us. He had it difficult in the youth team.
“He didn’t play many matches but he just kept going and he proved it’s not always the standout players who make the first team.

“Sometimes it’s the players who might have had a back seat but they keep pushing and pushing.
“Scott, Marcus Rashford and also Brandon Williams all inspire us to improve and move forward.”
Savage has now set his sights on making the Wales first-team, where he is looking to surpass the 39 caps his dad made for the Dragons.
He added: “It’d be nice to replicate what he did and make it to the Wales first-team.
“We are different. He was tenacious, whereas I’m more of a ball player.
“I think I’m a better finisher than him too! He won’t like me saying that — but if I can have half the career he had, then I’ll be very happy.”

United issued a statement on their website where they announced the Sweden youth international has been added to their ‘B’ list for the Uefa competition.
Under Uefa rules, homegrown players are allowed to be added to a club’s Europa League squad, and Elanga has been included after recovering from a collarbone injury.
Elanga – who has been at United since the age of 12 – penned a new contract at Old Trafford last month after rising through the yanks.
He was awarded the prestigious Jimmy Murphy Youth Team Player of the Year award in September after banging in seven goals in nine U18 Premier League matches.
He got a taste of first-team football under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer last summer when he came on as a substitute in the pre-season clash against Aston Villa.
Speaking last year, Elanga declared that he was desperate to follow in the footsteps of Mason Greenwood and Marcus Rashford.
He said: “You look at the likes of Mason and Rashy, there is a pathway there.
“It just shows you that if you’re willing to put the work into it and continue to work hard day in, day out in training there’s a pathway for you there.

“Obviously we’ve got a manager in Ole trusting the youngsters, so there’s a pathway there and I’ve just got to keep working hard.
“In training I’m always working hard and the way that I train is the way that I play.
“You can see that in the results and I’m just happy at the moment, I’m enjoying my football.”

Man Utd refuse to give up on Ibrahima Konate transfer and will fight Liverpool for RB Leipzig defender in summer

MANCHESTER UNITED are reportedly set to lock horns with Liverpool for RB Leipzig defender Ibrahima Konate.Jurgen Klopp has had well-documented issues at centre-half, with first choices Virgil van Dijk and Joel Matip out for the season.
Ibrahima Konate is reportedly on Liverpool and Manchester United’s shortlistsCredit: Getty

Joe Gomez is also on the sidelines, and this left the defending Premier League champions to rush deals through for Ozan Kabak and Preston’s Ben Davies.
Klopp is believed to have targetted a summer move for Konate – but now their bitter rivals are in the race.
According to Eurosport, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has ‘an eye’ on Konate.
Doubts persist over whether Victor Lindelof can be the long-term partner for captain Harry Maguire in the middle.
Eric Bailly has just over a year left on his contract and has struggled with injury and fitness ever since he joined United in 2016.
He is currently out of action after contracting coronavirus while on international duty with Ivory Coast.
Konate would cost around £34million, ‘and will be allowed to leave if the right offer lands’.
Now United must decide whether to make the move for the 21-year-old, or focus on other targets.

Sevilla’s Jules Kounde, Villareal’s Pau Torres and Real Madrid’s Raphael Varane are all reportedly on the Old Trafford hit list.
Another centre-half of interest is reportedly Juventus star Mathijs De Ligt.
Spanish outlet Todofichajes claimed in March United have made signing the centre-half their ‘top priority’.
But they would have to smash their own world-record fee paid for a defender after splashing out £85m on Harry Maguire in 2019.
De Ligt is thought to have a release clause in his contract allowing him to leave Juventus for £130m.
But according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, it does not kick in until July 2022.

Jesse Lingard’s outrageous stats show how he’s beating Man Utd star Bruno Fernandes in attack since joining West Ham

JESSE LINGARD is leading the Premier League charts since arriving at West Ham on loan. After failing to find a place in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Manchester United, the 28-year-old has rediscovered his best form with the Hammers under David Moyes this season.
Jesse Lingard has ben on fire since joining West Ham

His goal and assist to see off Wolves 3-2 on Monday night typified his new-found confidence and belief.
And the numbers show that, right now, no Premier League player can match him.
Since his West Ham debut on February 3 after a January window switch, only Tottenham’s Harry Kane has been involved in the same number of goal involvements.
Lingard’s six goals and three assists in eight appearances sees him with nine goal involvements.
That’s THREE more than United star Bruno Fernandes, as well as bettering Manchester City’s Gabriel Jesus, Ilkay Gundogan and Riyad Mahrez.
Only Harry Kane has scored more with seven, but has one fewer assist than Lingard in that time.
In terms of assists, Lingard’s three assists is the same as City’s Phil Foden and Tottenham’s Lucas Moura and Heung-Min Son.
Lingard is also proving to be efficient in front of goal, needing just 23 shots to reach nine goal involvements.
GRAND NATIONAL: GET £140 IN FREE BETS FOR FESTIVAL AT AINTREE

That is 17 fewer than Kane, two fewer than Leeds’ Patrick Bamford and Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah and one fewer than Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins.
Lingard’s sudden rise in form has come as a surprise to many having scored just five Premier League goals across the past three seasons at United.
But the midfielder is now likely to be giving England boss Gareth Southgate a selection headache ahead of this summer’s Euros.

Bruno Fernandes slams Man Utd for sloppy home form and reveals first Solskjaer chat that helped him hit ground running

BRUNO FERNANDES has issued a rallying cry to his Manchester United team-mates to ‘stop dropping as many points as we do at home’.The Portuguese playmaker has been instrumental in helping United into second spot in the Premier League.
Bruno Fernandes gave an honest interview with FourFourTwo magazine
And while they are some way off champs-in-waiting Manchester City, boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is coming close to crafting his side into genuine title contenders.
But Fernandes, ever the perfectionist, wants improvements – and sorting their home form is the main area to address.
United’s four defeats this season have all come at Old Trafford, with the Red Devils unbeaten away.
Speaking to FourFourTwo magazine, the 26-year-old said: “It’s tough in England, because the games are so tight.
“Every team genuinely has a chance to win the match. It’s 50/50 before every game, and we see it with the results. But we’re doing better.
“We can’t drop as many points as we do at home, but we’ve been in second, and at the start of the season there weren’t many people who were saying United would be second.
“After a few games and a bad start, nobody was saying United could reach the top of the table, but we ignored what people were saying on the outside.
“We knew what we had said on the inside, we had confidence that things would improve, and they did.

“We still have to be the best United we can, but we have improved.”
Fernandes is one of the first names on Solskjaer’s teamsheets and has become one of the most creative midfielders in the Premier League.
And the former Porto star has put his fine form down to the ‘trust’ in him from the manager.

He added: “He simply told me to be myself. To enjoy it, to play my own game.
“He said that he’d watched me for Sporting and that he wanted the same Bruno here – someone who tried to lead the team.
“It was important that the club trusted me to be me.”
Fernandes has 16 goals and 11 assists in 30 Prem games this season.
United paid just shy of £50million for the midfielder – one of the bargains of recent seasons.
This month’s FourFourTwo is in shops on Wednesday, April 7 and has a 10 page interview with Manchester United forward Bruno Fernandes. Also in this issue, The Football League Top 50, an interview with Leeds star Raphinha and former Spurs star Steven Caulker opens up. Man Utd will be without Eric Bailly in coming weeks after Solskjaer confirms defender tested positive for coronavirus

United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was speaking after seeing his side snatch a 2-1 victory against Brighton thanks to Mason Greenwood’s headed winner.
The Norwegian gaffer said: “He won’t be with us for a little while.
“He went away with the Ivory Coast and tested positive for Covid.
“He’s not back in the country yet.”
It is just the latest setback for Bailly after failing to nail down a regular starting spot at United.
The defender joined United in 2016 from Villareal, but a combination of injury and poor form have seen him regularly on the sidelines.
And losing Bailly isn’t the only bit of bad news for Solskjaer.
The former Molde boss fears forward Anthony Martial could be out for the rest of the season with a knee injury.

The 25-year-old was forced off with the problem while playing in a World Cup qualifier for France against Kazakhstan last week.
And while national team boss Didier Deschamps played down the severity of the injury, Solskjaer has now confirmed it is in fact much more serious than was first reported.
The Man Utd boss told MUTV: “Unfortunately, he sprained his knee with France.
“It’s always when they go away on internationals… you can keep your fingers crossed and hope they come back fit.
“Paul has played in all three games, 30, 60, 90 minutes, so that was a boost for us.
“Losing Anthony for what might be the rest of the season is very disappointing, especially when reports from there [France] was that it wasn’t anything serious but it looks a bad one.”

Man Utd verdict: Dean Henderson shows a few nerves as he embarks on final quest to oust David De Gea for good

DEAN HENDERSON has waited patiently for his chance to become Manchester United’s number one.And there were a few signs of nerves from the 24-year-old on his big night.
Dean Henderson spilled one ball in the first half – but it didn’t lead to a goalCredit: Getty
Yet that’s only to be expected – because in many ways the hard work starts now for the homegrown keeper.
He has to justify the faith that has been shown in him by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and live up to the reputation he has.
And for the next few weeks, until the end of the season at least, he will have United’s top earner David de Gea breathing down his neck.
Of course, the Spain international has been far from perfect over the last 12 months, but let’s not forget how many times he has saved United over the years.
He hasn’t been named the Red Devils’ Player of the Year more times than anyone else for nothing.
And De Gea, 30, will not relinquish the shirt he has held for almost a decade without a fight.
But it is Henderson’s to lose now and this was his first test as United’s No 1 – a role Gary Neville described recently as one of the most high-profile in world football.
Henderson was unlucky to be picking the ball out of his net after just 13 minutes.
United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer seemed happy with his keeperCredit: Reuters

He made a superb reflex stop to keep out Danny Welbeck’s header, but the former United striker reacted quickly to nod in the rebound.
Albion had clearly identified they could put him under pressure from corners – getting bodies in front of him each time.
There was one heart-stopping moment when he seemed to catch one from Pascal Gross but then got in a terrible mess.
He dropped the ball against his skipper Harry Maguire who then had to help scoop the ball to safety.
There were good moments too, though, as he tipped over a thumping header from Lewis Dunk when the Seagulls were on top in the first half.

But overall it was a quiet night for Henderson – and there was nothing to suggest Solskjaer has made the wrong call. Or the right one.
With a top four place virtually secure and the pursuit of leaders City looking forlorn, the Europa League is now United’s priority.
If Henderson gets the nod in Andalusia then De Gea will know his reign is definitely over.
Former United defender Rio Ferdinand said: “Solskjaer is paid to make the decisions. Henderson has been waiting for this opportunity.
“Can he live up to the hype? I’m looking forward to seeing it.”
All eyes will be on Henderson over the next two months – including De Gea’s.
