Solskjaer’s son insists ‘I always get food, I can assure you’ in response to Man Utd boss’s bizarre Tottenham row

OLE GUNNAR SOLSKJAER’S son has hilariously revealed he ‘always gets food’ following the bizarre row between his dad and Jose Mourinho. The Manchester United boss accused Son Heung-min of conning officials to get Edinson Cavani’s strike chalked off by going down too easily under a flailing arm from Scott McTominay.

Seething Solskjaer said: “If my son stayed down for three minutes and he needed ten mates to help him up, he wouldn’t get any food.
“The game has gone — absolutely gone.”
But former United boss Mourinho hit back as the row escalated when he told reporters: “I just want to say Sonny’s very lucky that his father is a better person than Ole.”
But speaking to Norwegian newspaper Tidens Krav, thankfully Ole’s son Noah, 20, has insisted he doesn’t go hungry.
The Kristiansund BK player said: “Yes, I laughed a lot on Sunday too.
“I always get food, I can assure everyone about that.
“[Teammate] Max [Williamsen] asked me if I had been given food when he met me before training today.
“I have never been lying down the way Son did. Mourinho probably just wanted to take the focus away from the fact they had lost.”

Cavani thought he had given United the lead when he slotted home in the 33rd minute.
But referee Chris Kavanagh ruled it out after VAR advised him to check the pitchside monitor.
It looked a harsh decision and the Red Devils were further incensed when the South Korean fired Spurs ahead seven minutes later.
Old Trafford manager Solskjaer — despite his side’s sterling second-half comeback — was still angry about the incident afterwards.
The Norwegian said in a television interview moments after the final whistle: “It was a perfectly good goal. We weren’t conned, the referee was.”
Cavani got his goal in the end, and further strikes from Fred and sub Mason Greenwood gave United a 3-1 victory.

Jose Mourinho launches scathing attack on Solskjaer as pair clash in tunnel over Man Utd boss’ Son Heung-min comments

JOSE MOURINHO launched a scathing attack on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as the pair clashed in the tunnel after the final whistle. The Tottenham chief was furious after Solskjaer accused Son Heung-min of conning officials to get Edinson Cavani’s strike chalked off by going down too easily under a flailing arm from Scott McTominay.

EDINSON CAVANI should not have had a first-half goal disallowed at Tottenham.
I felt Scott McTominay did not commit a foul on Son Heung-Min in the build-up to Cavani’s strike.
It was a slight hand-off by the Manchester United midfielder, the sort you see in every football match and nowhere near enough contact to force the Spurs forward to go down in the manner he did.
The incident wasn’t a clear and obvious error by referee Chris Kavanagh and a subjective decision to allow play to continue.
It was fine for VAR to check Cavani’s resulting goal but official Craig Pawson at Stockley Park should not have recommended a review.
VAR have re-refereed the incident because as soon as Kavanagh went to the monitor he was under huge pressure to overturn his original decision.
Kavanagh should have mentally tough enough to stick with his initial call as he was in an excellent position.
The PGMOL explanation of this incident was nonsense and showed a major lack of understanding of football.
Contact in football is not always a foul.
If the officials deemed McTominay was a foul then why wasn’t Paul Pogba punished for a worse action on Serge Aurier earlier in the half?
This is where the inconsistency drives everyone in the game mad and it is no surprise both Jose Mourinho and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said afterwards they don’t understand the decision making anymore.

The comments riled Mourinho and he slammed reporters on his post-match video conference for not asking him about them, even though they had not seen the broadcast.
He said: “I am very, very surprised that after the comments Ole made on Sonny you don’t ask me about it.
“Because, and I’ve told Ole already this when I met him just a few minutes ago, if it is me telling Player A, B or C from another club that ‘If he was my son I wouldn’t be giving him dinner tonight’ or something like that, what would be the reaction?
“It’s really sad nobody asks me about it. It’s really sad nobody has the moral honesty to treat me the way you treat others.
“In relation to that, I just want to say Sonny is very lucky that his father is a better person than Ole.
“Because I think a father — and I am a father — you have always to feed your kids no matter what they do. If you have to steal to feed your kids, you steal.
“I am very disappointed because with me, like we say in Portugal, bread is bread and cheese is cheese.
“I’ve told Ole already what I think of his comments.
“And I have to tell you that I am very disappointed that in seven questions you ignore these comments.”
Man Utd ultimately stormed to a 3-1 win with Greenwood grabbing the thirdCredit: AP
Both managers traded jibes in the build-up to the game but the post-match comments took their feud to another level.
But even Mourinho seemed to think the decision to disallow Cavani’s goal was harsh as he admitted: “I don’t know anything any more.
“I watched Fulham versus Wolves. I don’t understand anything any more.
“Sometimes you get decisions, sometimes you don’t get. I don’t know how to comment. You don’t celebrate a goal because you are afraid.”
When asked whether his side got away with that VAR call, Mourinho snapped: “We were unlucky because maybe Paul Pogba should have got a red card for an elbow on Serge Aurier.”
Sheepish Son, 28, who let out a yelp and collapsed after McTominay’s fingers brushed his face, said: “It’s difficult for everybody. For us, for the players, for the referees.
“There are lots of contradictions and decisions you don’t understand very well. That’s not my problem, I cannot fix this.”
Cavani had earlier seen a strike ruled out due to McTomainy’s swipe but later got on the scoresheetCredit: Kevin Quigley-The Daily Mail
But Solskjaer admitted the injustice inspired United’s comeback thanks to goals from Fred, Cavani and Mason Greenwood.
He added: “From that moment we played some very good football and obviously conceded a goal after that.
“But the players came together and were not going to let a decision like that derail their season.
“That showed the strength and character in the team.
“We come together in difficult moments and we’ve done that many times this season.”

United have put him at the head of their wishlist if David De Gea, 30, or Dean Henderson go this summer.
We revealed the Red Devils would not carry on with both De Gea and Henderson, 24, sharing games in the future.
Johnstone, 28, who came through the Old Trafford ranks before a £5million move to Albion in 2018, could be tempted to move as his deal is about to enter its final year.
West Brom might cash in as Johnstone is also one of their top earners.

Granada 0 Man Utd 2: Rashford strike and late Fernandes penalty put Red Devils in command of Europa League quarter-final

MIGHTY Marcus Rashford pushed through the pain barrier to open the door to another semi-final for Manchester United.Patched up to play, he looked like he needed to go off as he held his leg and grimaced through the first 20 minutes.

The Granada players could tell he was struggling, which is why they kept leaving a foot in and nipping away at the England international.
But Rashford is made of tough stuff and if they thought he was going lame they were wrong.
In the 31st minute he produced the sort of gallop that so impressed Sir Alex Ferguson at Aintree as he completed a hat-trick of wins.
Victor Lindelof spotted him bursting out the gates between full-back and centre-back and delivered a superb pass from deep inside his own half.
Tom Brady, who lead the Glazers’ Tampa Bay Buccaneers to Super Bowl victory, could not have picked out a team-mate better.
Rashford looked over his shoulder as he continued his run then with a superb first touch brought the ball under his spell.
With the second he knocked it forward and then the third saw him slide the ball past the advancing goalkeeper to win this Europa League quarter-final first leg.
Bruno Fernandes gave the scoreline a more justified look to reflect United’s dominance when he a converted a 90th minute penalty he had won after being knocked over in the box by Yan Brice’s flailing arm.

His kick sneaked under goalkeeper Rui Silva’s dive and with it he reached 24 for the season.
Rashford now has 20 and so became the first United player since Wayne Rooney a decade ago to score 20-plus goals in back to back seasons after hitting 22 last season.
To think he is doing it while carrying a shoulder problem that will need surgery after the Euros this summer.
Last season a back injury kept him out of action for 141 days.
An ankle problem meant he had to pulled out the most recent England squad.
And then he limped out of United’s 2-1 win over Brighton in the 72nd minute on Sunday having grabbed the equaliser ten minutes earlier.
Solskjaer doubted he could play 90 minutes last night but started him and he delivered so he could come off after 66.
The 23-year-old is crucial to United a scorer of great goals as we saw in Europe this season with his winner in the Champions League Group against PSG.
He also got a hat-trick against RB Leipzig in a 5-0 home win that should have propelled them to qualify for the next stage of that competition.

Bruno Fernandes’ penalty made it 2-0 in the dying moments of the gameCredit: Getty
He has eight now across the two competitions.
That will mean little to Rashford, however, unless United go on to lift this trophy.
He has winners medals from the 2016 FA Cup and 2017 EFL Cup and when they lifted the Europa League against Ajax in Stockholm.
That was United’s last trophy though and the Ole Solskjaer era needs one.
Ajax once more or AS Roma will wait for them in the last four if, as they should, they get the job done in the second-leg next week.
It will be their fifth semi-final over two seasons and they have lost the other four, twice to City in the EFL, to Chelsea in the FA Cup and Sevilla in this competition.
Solskjaer said trophies are for egos and the real measure of this team’s progression will be if they finish second in the league after a third place last season.
But I can’t remember the last time United fans were dancing in the streets at finishing second.
They were certainly dancing in Stockholm when they won this under Jose Mourinho and would love a trip to Gdansk for the final of this.
Bruno Fernandes celebrated after his penalty all-but sealed the quarter-final tieCredit: Getty
How many could witness that final of course is debatable due to Covid.
Mind you on the evidence of the Europa League last season when United played a mine tournament behind closed doors in Cologne, their supporters will travel just to be in the same City as their heroes.
And Rashford is a hero on the pitch and off it for his amazing work in fighting child poverty.
Solskjaer warned that Granada’s fight and spirt could be a problem last night.
Assembled at eight millions euros, that is less than David De Gea earns in a fortnight.
Recalled to the side last night he didn’t have to do a lot to pocket his wages for the week.
Next up it is Spurs away on Sunday and their old boss Mourinho, the last United manager to lift a trophy.
Rashford will pick himself up this morning, dust himself off and the physios will go to work to get him to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
They need him, as last night in Andalusia once again proved.

The Spanish feed being used on BT Sport was too busy showing a replay of a failed Granada attack, missing the build-up to Rashford’s goal
The England forward poked home a great ball from Victor Lindelof to hand Man Utd the advantage.
But the Spanish TV director missed the build-up to the goal after showing a replay of a failed Granada attack.
In the UK, the game was being shown on BT Sport – with the British broadcasters quick to distance themselves from the blame.
In a subtle tweet, they wrote: “Blink and you’ll miss Man Utd’s opening goal vs Granada…
“The Spanish TV director certainly did.”
Fans were quick to joke the director was probably still in shock from the STREAKER who’d earlier invaded the pitch.
One viewer joked: “I think the streaker might have put him off his game.”
Another said: “Miss a tasty goal but get to see a hairy naked man – swings & roundabouts really!”

No fans were allowed in for the Europa League quarter-final against Granada on Thursday night.
But that didn’t stop one fan from getting into the Estadio Municipal Nuevo Los Carmenes.
And he ran right across the middle of the pitch, causing a delay in the last-eight tie.
But Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side were only briefly held up as Spanish police moved in to escort the man away, with United netting the all-important opener 20 minutes later.

Man Utd ‘exploring’ Declan Rice swap transfer with West Ham which includes Jesse Lingard ‘after talk at England camp’

MANCHESTER UNITED are exploring a swap deal involving Declan Rice and Jesse Lingard after ‘talks on England duty’, according to reports.Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has long been a fan of the Hammers star, 22, who has continued his meteoric rise to become the Three Lions’ top defensive midfielder.

Man Utd want England and West Ham star Rice to join them in the summerCredit: Alamy
Chelsea are among a host of European giants keen to sign former Blues academy product Rice.
And David Moyes has warned it would take bids in excess of £100million to sign him.
Even then, Moyes wants to keep Rice at the London Stadium – particularly if West Ham manage to keep their place in the top four and qualify for next season’s Champions League.
But according to The Athletic, Man Utd are keen to discuss a swap deal involving Lingard in order to tempt the Hammers into selling their star man.
Lingard, 28, has been sensational since joining West Ham on loan in the winter window – involved in a league-high nine goals since his debut for the Londoners, level with Harry Kane.
Moyes is desperate to make Lingard’s loan move permanent, with United deliberately leaving an option to buy out of the deal.
United had hoped Lingard’s stock would rise in East London before selling him this summer with just one year left on his deal having signed an extension in December 2020.
It’s believed Man Utd will hold out for around £20million to £25m for Lingard this summer.

But they could use him as a makeweight to sign Rice, shaving around £25m off the asking price.
Lingard’s red-hot form has seen him break back into Gareth Southgate’s England squad – even playing in all three of the recent World Cup qualifying games.
Meanwhile, Rice – who picked up an injury on international duty – won two Man of the Match awards after starring at the base of a midfield three.
United see Rice as a long-term replacement for Nemanja Matic, 33, and would allow the likes of Scott McTominay to push further up the pitch.

Jesse Lingard must settle for Man Utd ‘in and out’ role like Daniel James to succeed at club, claims Gary Neville

Lingard has scored six times, adding three assists, since his move to London – involved in a Premier League-high nine goals, level with Harry Kane in that span.
The midfielder’s hot form has even seen him return to the England fold, playing in all three of the recent World Cup qualifying wins.
And Neville believes Lingard can return to Man Utd in the summer and maintain his strong run, if he’s willing to take on an ‘in and out’ role.
Neville told Sky Sports: “At Manchester United because there is that expectation of what you need to be.
“To be a wide player there, [Lingard’s] always going to get a difficult press.
“He’s a really good player. He’s going to have a great career.
“Manchester United have sent him out to West Ham to boost his career, maybe with the thought of boosting his price tag.
“But they might be thinking, ‘actually, we might want him back, he could be a real help to us’.

“If he’s willing to go back there and compete and be the player that Dan James has been for the last few weeks, in and out, then there’s no doubt he can play for Manchester United.”
But Neville admitted Lingard’s form could be down to playing week-in, week-out – and admitted he might have to quit Old Trafford.
Nev continued: “If Jesse wants to play, and you can see he does want to play, then he needs to leave.
“He’s not going to play every single week for a Manchester United team that’s competing for second or first place in the league.”
Meanwhile, West Ham are set to push to make Lingard’s loan move permanent this summer.
However, the Hammers fear his sensational 2021 could see Man Utd price them out of a swoop.
