Cristiano Ronaldo backed for sensational Man Utd return after poor Juventus season by Gary Pallister

Ronaldo has just one year left on his contract in Turin, and the Old Lady could decide to cash in on their prized asset.
And the five-time Ballon d’Or winner could opt to quit Juve with the Serie A giants in danger of missing out on the Champions League.
Andrea Pirlo’s side sit in fifth spot with just one top-flight match to go, and it is unlikely Ronaldo would want to compete in the Europa League next term.
The ex-Real Madrid maestro has already fuelled speculation he could leave by loading his £17million car collection into a trailer on Tuesday night.
Commenting on his future, former United defender Pallister told Compare.bet: “I could see him coming back.
“He had a great time at Old Trafford, and coming back here would suit Cristiano with Juve struggling with Champions League qualification.
“He didn’t have issues here the first time round under the leadership of Sir Alex, and you can see that he still looks after himself and has that hunger.

“He’s a magnificent player and still has that hunger to prove himself as the best player that’s ever walked this planet.
“I think he’s on record as wanting to play until he’s 40 – sometimes when you’re bringing a player back to a club you worry about the hunger and desire if it’s something seen as more of a final payday.
“You see the way he talks and trains, he’s still keen and can be one of the best players in the world at United.”
Despite Juve’s struggles this campaign, Ronaldo has once again starred as he sits top of the Serie A goalscoring charts.
The Sporting Lisbon academy graduate has banged in 29 league goals this term from just 33 games.
And he brought up 100 goals in all competitions for the Bianconeri in last week’s 3-1 win against Sassuolo.

And he can be grateful that he arrived back to his car without a penalty after a possible Manchester United-supporting traffic warden let him off.
Unless a person is the owner of a Blue Badge, under no circumstances can you park on double yellow lines at any time.
Cheshire West and Chester Council’s website states that Civil Enforcement officers can issue Penalty Charge Notices of £50 or £70 for contraventions.
But this can be reduced by 50 per cent if the PCN is paid within 14 days.
Thankfully for the Scottish legend, he hopped back into his motor before getting himself into trouble.
Ferguson recently opened up on his near death experience after suffering a brain haemorrhage in 2018.
Speaking in his upcoming documentary ‘Never Give In’ which will be released in cinemas on May 27, Ferguson lifted the lid on how he feared losing his memory.

He said: “I wondered how many sunny days I would see again. I found that difficult.
    “I was crying, felt helpless.
“I would have hated to lose my memory. I would have been a terrible burden on my family.”
United star Bruno Fernandes admitted recently how he regrets not yet speaking to Ferguson since joining from Sporting Lisbon in early 2020.
He told the club’s website: “That is one of my biggest regrets in the club until now.
“I met him already but never had the chance to speak with him like I would like to do.
”I think everyone who watched Manchester United in the past remembers Sir Alex. [That is true] for me, growing up and seeing the club, being a fan of the club and seeing the development of the team.
“I would like to have a conversation with him and understand, from his point of view, what he thinks about me and what I can improve or still improve in my game to be better.”

Man Utd 1 Fulham 1: Edinson Cavani stunner cancelled out by late Joe Bryan strike as fans return to Old Trafford

THESE are the special moments Ole Gunnar Solskjaer promised Edinson Cavani when he convinced him to stay on at Old Trafford.Scoring in front of an empty stadium is one thing, scoring in front of fans in The Stretford End is quite something else.

And when you score a goal that will go down in the pantheon of great strikes at Old Trafford it is something else still.
His incredible 15th minute chip on the run from 40 yards brought a roar from the 10,000 inside the stadium that sounded like five times that many.
In persuading Cavani to extend his stay to next season Solskjaer painted an emotional picture to the veteran striker of what it would be like to score in front of fans next season.
Solskjaer has promised those same fans they will see the very best of him in the next campaign – and still rates him as one of the world’s best even at the age of 34.
To think he could have come and gone without experiencing the appreciation of the United fans.
The veteran’s impact has been remarkable.
He was a free agent that no big club wanted on leaving PSG. He was snapped up by Solskjaer as the transfer deadline clock ticked down last October.
Having not played since the previous March and without a pre-season it was always going to take time for him to warm to his task.

It has been in the last two months that we have seen the best of him.
He has scored nine of his 16 goals in the last ten games, none more memorable than this one which began with a pass out from the back by goalkeeper David De Gea.
He found Bruno Fernandes and his flick, or so we thought, meant that Cavani was just onside as he started his run from a couple of feet past the halfway line.
What came next was breathtaking as he spotted goalkeeper Alphonse Areola off his line and executed the most wonderful chipped shot that dipped just under the bar.
Of course there was a VAR check, as always, and had Fernandes flicked it Cavani was onside.
The question was whether he had though because if the ball came directly from De Gea he was definitely offside and replays suggested Fernandes had not made contact.
Still, unless you are a Fulham fan, you had to be thankful this moment was not taken away from the Uruguayan legend.
Spookily it was from a similar spot that the last goal was scored here in front of fans, the second in a 2-0 win against Manchester City by Scott McTominay in March of last year.
Fulham’s goal was reward as they never gave up at Old TraffordCredit: Times Newspapers Ltd
That came after a loose pass from Ederson offered him a gaping goal to aim at, this was something different.
It was a shame the votes had just been counted for the fans goal of the season which was given to Bruno Fernandes, also their player of the season, for his curler into the far top corner in the 3-3 draw against Everton in February.
After the protests, postponement of the Liverpool game and fixture congestion that Solskjaer felt lead to their two home defeats last week it was a much needed moment of joy.
A moment tempered by the fact United failed to beat this already relegated side and one who had lost seven and drawn one of their previous eight games.
Their 76th-minute equaliser came when Joe Bryan met Bobby De Cordova-Reid’s right wing cross with a close-range header.
The fans fell largely silent after that. They came in their green and gold, held up banners calling for the owning Glazer family, and chanted their disapproval of them at times.
But at least they were back inside Old Trafford for the first time in 14 months supporting their team and they wanted to enjoy it.

Mason Greenwood should really have sealed a victory for them in the 74th minute when he latched onto Cavani’s perfectly weighted through ball but fired his shot straight at Areola.
As so often happens a quick goal comes at the other end as it did two minutes later and the importance off the missed chance grows.
For United that now one win and a draw in five – they have lost momentum with just one game before the Europa League Final with Villarreal.
Perhaps it is because their eyes are already on that occasion, with Champions League football guaranteed for next season.
As Solskjaer addressed the crowd at full-time he got roar when he said they aimed to bring that silverware back to them from Gdansk.
A roar is something this place has missed.

Watch Edinson Cavani score goal of the season contender as Man Utd hitman lobs Alphonse Areola from 40 yards

MANCHESTER UNITED striker Edinson Cavani scored a goal of the season contender with a 40-yard lob.The 33-year-old was played through by Bruno Fernandes, and showing the confidence of the world class striker he is, Cavani chipped it straight over Fulham keeper Alphonse Areola.

With 10,000 fans inside Old Trafford tonight, the goal was cheered wildly by the United fans.
There was a VAR check to make sure the Uruguayan was onside, but thankfully he was and the stunning goal stood.
The goal came on the 15-minute mark as already-relegated Fulham were cut apart.
United fans were quick to compliment the striker after his stunning strike.
‘Special player’, ‘world class’ and ‘incredible striker’ were just some of the phrases used.
And there was a general consensus that it is indeed a ‘goal of the season’ contender.
But United might have to reconsider their own ‘Goal of the Season’ winner. Earlier today it was given to Bruno Fernandes for his 25-yard stunner in a 3-3 February draw against Everton
Former Liverpool and Aston Villa defender Stephen Warnock told BBC Radio 5Live: I loved the goal, the move, the noise, the atmosphere when it went it.

“Cavani said recently he wanted to sample the atmosphere and play in front of the Old Trafford faithful. Well they know what he’s capable of now. Wow.”
SunSport has exclusively revealed how Cavani will hit a six-figure jackpot if he is a chart-topper in his second season at Old Trafford.
The Manchester United striker agreed a deal to stay for another 12 months, as we revealed he had been offered a pay hike to £250,000-a-week.

And the Uruguay forward could earn close to the same again in bonuses if he is in the goals next season.
Cavani, 34, will pick up an extra £100,000 if he is United’s leading scorer – and a similar amount if he ends up as the Premier League’s Golden Boot winner.
It is also understood that United will promise the South American a rolling annual review, which could even see him staying in England for another season beyond the next one.

Cantona linked up with the Red Devils from Leeds in November 1992 after helping the Whites win the First Division title.
And his impact at Old Trafford was immediate as he was instrumental in United winning their first-top flight championship since 1967.
In total, the French icon won four Premier League titles in five years before retiring in 1997 at the age of 30.
Cantona – who chipped in with 70 goals and 56 assists 156 outings for both United and Leeds – was the first of six inductees voted by fans from a 23-man shortlist.
And his former team-mate Keane soon followed him after being voted for by supporters, with the Irishman winning the Premier League crown on seven occasions.
Keane joined United in 1993 from relegated Nottingham Forest, with the midfielder instantly becoming a key player under Sir Alex Ferguson.
He scored 39 goals in 366 games in the Premier League, while he was also named as the Player of the Month twice.

Cantona has joked he isn’t surprised about being inducted as he thanked those that voted for him.
He told the Premier League: “I feel very happy and very proud – and at the same time, I’m not surprised!
“I would have been surprised not to be elected. You know, I’m not surprised.”
Before adding: “It is very important to have an honour like this. I play football, I love football, I dreamt about football when I was a kid.
“Of course, to play in England was a dream.
“It’s a dream of everybody, and playing in the Premier League, so I have to say thanks to all the people who voted for me – the older generation and your generation, everybody.
“Which is very important because as I tell you it was a long time ago, and sometimes people forget!”
Keane meanwhile commented: “I feel very lucky to be inducted but I’ve only been inducted because of the players I’ve played with.”

Man Utd star Fred gets shock chance for Brazil as boss Tite calls him up ahead of vital World Cup games

NINE Premier League players were called up by Brazil coach Tite for next month’s World Cup qualifiers against Ecuador and Paraguay.Keepers Alisson and Ederson, centre back Thiago Silva, strikers Gabriel Jesus, Roberto Firmino and Richarlison, and midfielders Douglas Luiz, Fabinho… and Fred.
Man Utd midfielder Fred has been called-up to the Brazil squad for crucial World Cup qualifiers against Ecuador and ParaguayCredit: PA:Empics Sport
The recall of the little Manchester United left footer is something of a surprise – perhaps even to United fans.
Tite was questioned about it in Friday’s virtual press conference.
He leant on data from his physical preparation specialist Fabio Mahseredjian, he pointed out that Fred is way above average both in terms of the ground he covers, and in the ground he covers at pace.
This, more than any eye catching ability, is useful to Brazil – for reasons that may much to do with their quarter final defeat to Belgium three years ago.
The Belgians won the game in the first half coming for the space down the Brazilian left – where full back Marcelo has never been a great defender, and Neymar ahead of him is given freedom to create.
After Russia 2018 Tite gave up on Marcelo, and originally went with cautious full backs on both flanks.
A poor run of results towards the end of 2019 forced a rethink. Now Renan Lodi of Atletico Madrid is allowed to attack from left back – meaning that the space behind him has to be protected.
In last year’s four rounds of World Cup qualifiers Brazil won all their games with Aston Villa’s Douglas Luiz performing a key role balancing out the side on the left of midfield.

Exciting Raphina hasn’t been called up despite his impressive form for LeedsCredit: Eddie Keogh Telegraph Media Group
But he is suspended for the next game, at home to Ecuador – and so in comes Fred as cover.
There is no place for Raphinha of Leeds, though supporters of his club have been arguing for his inclusion. But there is no surprise in his absence.
Firstly, Raphinha is far better known in Yorkshire than he is in Brazil. He is one of an increasing number of Brazilians who have made their name abroad.
And also, Brazil have more wide strikers than they know what to do with. There is intense competition for places.
His best chance is the Copa America, due to be staged in Colombia and Argentina in a month’s time.
A wave of social unrest in Colombia means that a change of venue cannot be ruled out, but with the local football authorities desperate for revenue, it is highly likely that the competition will go ahead, somehow and somewhere.
Brazil will be hopeful of regaining the Copa America they last won in 2019Credit: AFP

The problem here for Brazil’s coach is that the local championship does not shut down – so any home based players who are called up will miss more than a month of club matches.
In this situation, should Tite prefer to give a rest to his usual first choices, it might be interesting to have a look at the likes of Raphinha.
The Leeds winger, then, faces an anxious few weeks while he waits to see if the Copa America will indeed go ahead – and if he will have a part to play in the competition.

Man Utd boss Solskjaer blames Leicester and Liverpool losses on angry fan protests after thousands invaded Old Trafford

THE season has been tough enough for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.Plotting a way to his first silverware as Manchester United boss and splitting the top two of Manchester City and Liverpool from the last two seasons in the League.

Now he finds himself acting in an unwanted role as peacemaker between club and supporters as they prepare to let 10,000 fans back into Old Trafford for the last home game of the season against Fulham.
Solskjaer says his players have been suffering due to fans protests.
Thousands laid siege to Old Trafford and the team hotel forcing their game with Liverpool to be postponed.
There were more protests against the club’s owners the Glazers before the game against Leicester last week too.
And Solskjaer said: “I think the mood in any club and the relationship between the team and the fans is vital to what happens on the pitch.”
Solskjaer believes the protests and subsequent fixture pile up was the reason for them losing their last two games at home to Leicester and Liverpool.
He said: “I just didn’t want to use it as an excuse because we lost two games but surely it’s a reason behind the performances.”

United fans are set to continue on with their direct actionCredit: AP

Now he is crossing his fingers that the return of fans will see everyone united behind his team.
Solskjaer said: “We’ve been waiting for a long long time to welcome the fans back and of course the last couple of home games, especially the Liverpool ones with the protests.
“It’s never nice to see a club that is not united, fans with the team so we’re hoping that Tuesday is going to be a positive day that we move together, that we play a good game of football.
“That’s my job to prepare the team to play well and that they enjoy the day because that’s important that we get back and enjoy being together.”
It will be the first time the Red Devils have played in front of fans at Old Trafford since March of last year when they beat Manchester City 2-0.
There was a tremendous atmosphere on that occasion but if their return is marred by protests inside the ground Solskjaer fears it will only have a negative effect on the team.

He said: “Of course you hope that the game against Fulham will not be marred by any violence or over the top things.
“I know our fans, I know the Manchester United fans, they’re the best fans I’ve had and I’ve got such a great relationship with them and they know how to support the team so I don’t expect any of the fans coming here making any trouble
“The players are all human beings, we’re all human beings, and we will react to getting our supporters back in a positive way.
“They have always been giving us extra energy and hopefully the players will give the fans a reason to cheer and that’s what we have to focus on. It’s a big game for us in that respect.
“The last time we had fans in against Man City, it was a great game, it was the best atmosphere I’ve ever felt at Old Trafford in a league game and the next time we can welcome the fans back in we need to make sure it’s a positive one.”
United were left having to play three games in five days due to the postponement of the Liverpool game something which Solskjaer says was unfair on the players.
There was a ring of steel for the postponed fixture against LiverpoolCredit: AFP
He said: “Physically it’s impossible to turn up and play at the intensity and the level that’s required because of the amount of games.
“Then you look at the preparation in between, you haven’t had the recovery or the same routine as you normally do, we haven’t done the tactical prep in the same way.
“I’m not saying it didn’t affect them but I was impressed with how professional they were and how they went about it.
“There was none of them that complained and that’s one of the big things for me, we never complain we just look at what we can do and how could we maximise the situation.
“We tried to do that but we couldn’t get the results but the players have been good as gold.
“They’ve had a couple of days off and they’re refreshed and ready and now we prepare as normal for these last two games.”
There won’t be any let up from the United fansCredit: AFP
The last two league defeats have left the club’s bid to finish runners-up in jeopardy as they lead third-placed Leicester by four points with six still available from the final two games.
But Solskjaer is hopeful that his team will be back to their old selves after a fraught period.
He said: “The last week has been draining. The season has been long enough so I gave them two days off, Friday and Saturday, and they’ve been bright and bubbly, really sharp and looking forward to the end of the season and playing in front of our fans again.
“It’s a completely different matter and the fans coming in will give the game an extra lift and give the players an extra lift and of course we’re very focused on securing second place.”
Former boss Jose Mourinho was derided for claiming his second place finish with United in the 2017-18 season was one of his greatest achievements.
While Solskjaer will not list it as an ‘achievement’ he believes it will be proof that the team is going in the right direction.
He said: “The competition now is a lot harder than when I was a player. Three, four maybe five teams that can challenge for the top two positions.
“For the last few years they have been taken by the same two teams and for us to go into them and divide them it’s good, it’s a good performance but we can’t say it’s an achievement, it’s not an achievement.
“We’ve taken steps as a team we’re not where we want to be, we know we have some deficiencies as a group there’s parts of the game that we need to improve on but I’ve felt we’ve made strides in most places and I’ve been very pleased with the players and I’ve got to say I’ve been impressed by them but we want to take the next step as well.”
