‘He’s hungry to break more records’ – Bruno Fernandes reveals Cristiano Ronaldo has more desire than ever aged 36

Ronaldo has proved a hit with his new team-mates and fans alike with his five goals in six matches since returning to Old Trafford.
And playmaker Fernandes reckons the five-time Ballon d’Or winner’s desire is stronger than ever to rewrite the history books.
He told TNT Sports: “[It’s] the same. [He’s] hungry to break more.
“He once said something very interesting. He said it’s not he who follows the records, it’s the records that follow him.
“And I’m starting to think it’s true. Because his ability to score goals is impressive, his ability to be in the right place is impressive.
“Say what you want. Easy goals, not easy goals. There are no easy goals.

“You have to be there, you have to feel it, you have to have the feeling of the goal. He’s in the right place and scores it.
“Even being in the right place, it’s hard to score. There are those who fail, he doesn’t fail.”
Ronaldo has won three Premier League titles, two LaLigas, Serie A twice and the Champions League on five occasions.
But he also holds countless different records across an illustrious career – especially with his bonkers goalscoring.
The superstar is the top scorer in history for the Euros (14), Champions League (137 in a record 182 appearances), Real Madrid (450 – including 44 hat-tricks) and international football.
He surpassed Iranian legend Ali Daei’s tally of 109 in September and has now moved on to 115 in 182 Portugal caps, with a record ten hat-tricks.
The forward is the only player plying his trade at United to win Fifa’s World Player of the Year, the European Golden Shoe and the Puskas award.
He would become the first Red Devils star to win two Ballons d’Or should he pick up the gong during his second spell in the North-West.
His tally of 31 goals in 2007-08 is a club Premier League record but Ronaldo will no doubt be aiming to beat that this season – as well as a number of other achievements.

Cristiano Ronaldo tells Man Utd boss Solskjaer to play him every game after being left ‘disappointed’ at being benched

CRISTIANO RONALDO has told Ole Gunnar Solskjaer: ‘I’m fit to start every Premier League game.’The Portuguese star delivered the message to Manchester United boss Ole after being on the bench for the 1-1 draw with Everton a fortnight ago.
Cristiano Ronaldo only came off the bench against Everton in the 75th minuteCredit: AFP
A United source said: “Ronaldo was extremely disappointed for being benched.
“Ole presumed that he was tired after the Villarreal game, so he decided to only put him on early in the second half.
“But Cristiano told him that he will tell him when he isn’t fit to play and that he wants to play in every single league game.
“He also told him that he has come here to win trophies and that United need to play their most important players in all of the games.”
Solskjaer benched Ronaldo for the Toffees’ visit, believing the 36-year-old needed a rest after playing a full game against Villarreal three days earlier — where he scored the 95th-minute winner.
And Ron’s frustration was clear for all to see when he marched down the tunnel at the final whistle of the draw with Everton, having replaced Edinson Cavani after 57 minutes.

Solskjaer, 48, said: “I spoke to him before the game, spoke to him after the game and he was ready to come on when he was called upon.
“Unfortunately, when we don’t win Cristiano is not happy and that’s a mindset you want from every player. That’s absolutely no problem whatsoever.”
Ronaldo was already miffed at  being left out of the side for the 1-0 Carabao Cup defeat to West Ham the previous week, when Ole made 11 changes.
The conversation cannot be described in any way as a bust-up and there has been no falling out.
Solskjaer explained to his superstar he was just looking after the player’s interests but accepted the five-time Champions League winner’s viewpoint.
Ahead of today’s trip to Leicester, however, the United chief made it clear he cannot play Ronaldo all the time.
Solskjaer said: “We all want to see Cristiano because he’s unique. But the plain fact of it is he cannot play every game, that’s just physical nature.”

Sir Alex Ferguson smashed Steve Bruce’s phone in Man Utd half-time dressing room row as he awaited call from SICK WIFE

STEVE BRUCE once had his mobile phone smashed by Sir Alex Ferguson after a phone call from his SICK WIFE interrupted his half-time team talk. The ex-Manchester United centre-back was on the receiving end of one of the Scotsman’s dressing room rants during a clash from the 1990s.

Former Red Devils full-back Paul Parker has revealed how Fergie was left scathing with his players following a poor first half showing.
And he was then sent into a fit of anger after Bruce’s phone went off mid-rant – leaving the United squad with their hearts in their mouths.
Recalling the incident, Parker told the Mirror: “I’ll never forget the time Alex ended up smashing Steve’s mobile phone, which happened to go off at half-time leaving the manager in a rage.
“Steve had left his phone on because his wife Janet was in hospital with a back problem and he was waiting for an update on how she was doing.
“The first half of a game hadn’t gone too well and you could tell we were in for a rollicking because as soon as the boss came into the dressing room he slung off his jacket, which was an indication that he meant business.
“He started laying into some of us big time. Suddenly a phone starts ringing and the first person he looks at is me because for some reason he always associated me with a mobile phone.

“Thankfully I wasn’t guilty and so he started going along the line of players, staring at each one, trying to find where the sound was coming from. Woe betide the person who owned it.
“Eventually, with his ears pricked, he arrived at Brucey’s jacket, pushed his hand into it and pulled out the mobile phone.
“Without a second thought he hurled it with force into a bin, completely smashing it.
“No-one said a word. Even Steve, who knew it wouldn’t have made any difference, kept quiet.
“You just had to get on with it and Steve knew there was a job to be done in the second half – any domestic worries had to be shoved to one side.”

Bruce spent nine years playing under Ferguson at the Theatre of Dreams – featuring in 414 games as he helped United win the Premier League three times.
He followed Ferguson into management, with the Newcastle gaffer preparing for his 1,000th match this weekend against Tottenham.
But he could soon be out of a job following the £300million takeover at St James’ Park.
Newcastle should stick with Steve Bruce and not sack him as there’s nobody ‘more equipped’ than him, says Danny Murphy More

Inside Cristiano Ronaldo’s special bond with Sir Alex Ferguson, from winning Ballon d’Or five times to return to Man Utd

WHEN Cristiano Ronaldo signed for Manchester United as a talented 17-year-old in 2003, the wheels were set in motion for one of football’s special bonds. But few would believe that his former manager Sir Alex Ferguson, a father-figure to the 36-year-old Portuguese superstar, would aid his return to the club that made him nearly 20 years later.

In the summer, it seemed nailed on that the all-time leading international goalscorer would sign for United’s arch-rivals Manchester City.
However, Fergie revealed he stepped in to stop that from happening.
“A lot of people played their part (in bringing Ronaldo back) and I contributed knowing that really Cristiano wanted to come here and that was important,” he told Viaplay before the ex-Real Madrid star made his return to Manchester United.
Ronaldo, himself, acknowledged the manager’s contribution. “PS — Sir Alex, this one is for you…” he wrote in a social media post celebrating his move from Juventus.
Now, the fiery Scot has said Ronaldo deserves a sixth Ballon d’Or title, after his goalscoring exploits for club and country.
Through the years, Fergie has been credited with making him the player he is today. Sparing him the infamous hairdryer treatment, Fergie filled Ronaldo’s head with confidence – giving him the freedom that allowed him to become a five-time Ballon d’Or winner.
The “Boss”, as Ronaldo affectionately calls him, was even there for his protege’s most famous moment for his country – winning Euro 2016 – giving him a hug from the stands as he collected his winners’ medal.
Their father/son relationship has blossomed through the years, so much so it was recently revealed that Ronaldo was set for a sensational return to Old Trafford until Fergie’s retirement in 2013 halted a deal.

    FAN BOY
After Sir Alex retired, he enjoyed going to live events – from the Oscars to various European finals.
At Euro 2016, Fergie was in the stands to watch Portugal defeat France 1-0 after extra-time.
As the Portuguese players walked down the steps after receiving their medals, a proud Ferguson embraced Ronaldo and gave him a huge hug.
Then, a year later he was a special guest at the 2017 Champions League final, in which Ronaldo won man of the match and scored twice in a 4-1 rout of Juventus.
Of course, it was Fergie that give him his award that night.

    FAMILY COMES FIRST
Back in 2005, as Ronaldo was beginning to establish himself at Old Trafford, his father Jose Dinis Aveiro fell ill in hospital after years of alcohol abuse.
Immediately, Fergie ordered him to take compassionate leave – even though it meant his star player would miss key games during the season.
“When my daddy was sick in London, and he was in hospital very bad in a coma,” Ronaldo  revealed Sir Alex Ferguson: Secrets of Success’ in 2015.
“I had a conversation with him [Ferguson] and I said: ‘Boss, I don’t feel good.’
“We are in a key moment in the Champions League, and I said I don’t feel good and I wanna see my dad. He said: ‘Cristiano – you wanna go one day, two days, one week? You can go. I’m going to miss you here because you are important, but your daddy is the [priority].’
“When he told me that, I feel like this guy is unbelievable. He the father of football for me.”

    RED HERRING
Fergie knew Ronaldo’s dream was to play for Real Madrid, and he wasn’t going to stop him from joining the La Liga giants.
That said, he did try to pull a fast one when it was reported that Los Blancos were deep in talks with CR7.
“You don’t think we’d get into a contract with that mob, do you?,” Sir Alex said back in 2008.
“Jesus Christ. I wouldn’t sell them a virus. So that’s a no — there is no agreement between the clubs.”
Six months later, Ronaldo moved to Spain – with Fergie in agreement all along.

    A FITTING TRIBUTE
In 2012, at the unveiling of a statue of Sir Alex Ferguson at Old Trafford, Ronaldo made an appearance by video link to pay tribute to his former boss.
He began by apologising for not being there in person because of his hectic schedule.
“I think you 100 per cent deserve it for what we did with you,” Ronaldo continued in the clip.
He even joked, “I hope to see you soon, because I need to practice my English, not my Scottish!”

    SPORTS PERSONALITY OF THE YEAR
In 2013, Sir Alex Ferguson was the special recipient of the BBC Sports Personality Diamond Award for the show’s 60th edition.
Again, Ronaldo took to video link to heap praise on Sir Alex.
“You were like a football father to me,” Cristiano said.
“You deserve this award because you are a fantastic manager, a fantastic person and the number one.”

    FILM STAR
In 2015, Cristiano Ronaldo’s amazing life made it to the big screen.
He opened himself up to the world in his documentary ‘Ronaldo’ – which Fergie wasn’t going to miss for the world.
The Scot stood side-by-side with Ronaldo on the red carpet for its premiere in London.
Both beaming with pride, Ronaldo and Fergie looked like father and son.

Again, the pair couldn’t hide their affection for one another
    MESSAGE OF SUPPORT
When Sir Alex suffered a brain haemorrhage in 2018, Ronaldo and the whole footballing world were praying that he would pull through.
Taking to Instagram, Ron shared an image of them together with the caption: “My thoughts and prayers are with you, my dear friend. Be strong, Boss!”
Ferguson made a miraculous recovery and the pair met up when Juventus played Manchester United at Old Trafford.
“A great coach and above all a wonderful man,” Ronaldo shared with a photo in a tweet.
“Taught me so many things inside and outside the pitch. Great to see you in good shape, Boss!”

Last year, Ronaldo won the Portuguese Player of the Year award for a record 10th time.
It was Fergie’s time to record a moving video message for his former student.
“Congratulations on a great achievement and a wonderful night you’re going to have in Portugal,” Ferguson said in the clip.
“I’m really sorry I can’t be with you, but I look back and see you as a young lad at 17 years of age who came to Manchester United, how you have progressed as a human being and a fantastic sportsman.

Man Utd ‘cancelled transfer moves for Eduardo Camavinga and Saul Niguez’ to seal Cristiano Ronaldo return

MANCHESTER UNITED reportedly wanted Eduardo Camavinga and Saul Niguez before bringing Cristiano Ronaldo back to the club. The Portuguese legend, 36, returned to Old Trafford from Juventus on deadline day and he has already scored five goals for the Red Devils.
Man Utd reportedly axed moves for two midfielders to re-sign Cristiano RonaldoCredit: Rex
Ronaldo looked set to join rivals Man City before a phone call from Sir Alex Ferguson persuaded him to come back to the club he left for Real Madrid in 2009.
His arrival followed the captures of French defender Raphael Varane from Los Blancos, winger Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund plus freebie reserve goalkeeper Tom Heaton.
However, Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, speaking on his YouTube channel, has now claimed United had originally not been planning on a move for Ronaldo.
Instead, they wanted to bring in either 18-year-old Camavinga from Rennes or Saul from Atletico Madrid to bolster their midfield.
French international Camavinga has now gone on to sign for LaLiga giants Real Madrid.
Meanwhile Saul did get a transfer to the Premier League.
He has joined Chelsea on loan in a £4.5m deal for the rest of the season.

However, the decision to instead get Ronaldo has left boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer still with a dilemma in the middle of the park after initially identifying it as an area he wanted to strengthen.
Scott McTominay and Fred are usually deployed by the Norwegian while veteran Nemanja Matic is reaching the twilight stage of his career.
And doubts still remain over Donny van de Beek’s future as the Dutchman continues to struggle for match action.
