Man Utd booed off at half-time against Atalanta with Cristiano Ronaldo fuming before he scored dramatic winner

CRISTIANO RONALDO was left fuming with his team-mates against Atalanta in the first half before scoring the winner to complete an incredible comeback. The Red Devils went 2-0 down against their Italian opponents after just 28 minutes following goals from Mario Pasalic and Mehri Demiral.

With pressure on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, his players failed to start strongly as they were being picked apart by the Serie A outfit.
And Ronaldo let his anger be shown after Demiral headed home from a corner after Harry Maguire allowed him to have a free run.
The 36-year-old punched the air in frustration as he let out a scream, and fans were quick to pick up on his outburst.
One user tweeted: “Ronaldo is so angry, Ole is defo gone.”
Another commented: “I swear i never saw Ronaldo that angry at Juventus.”
A third added: “Ronaldo is fuming. Sums up the mood of the fans right now.”

Meanwhile one posted: “Ronaldo fuming thinking why have I come back to this s*** show.”
One simply stated: “Ronaldo is frustrated with this United side. He wants Zidane too, I imagine.”
United legend Paul Scholes refused to hit out at ex-team-mate Solskjaer during the break, instead claiming the formation is to blame.
The BT Sport pundit said: “I think it’s the formation that’s been bad.
“Ole said 4-2-4. I don’t care who those two players are in the midfield, when you’re playing against a good European team you’re going to get destroyed.
“Neither wide player is running back, Bruno Fernandes is making the odd effort to get in and help but they will get destroyed.
“If Man Utd were playing a really good team here, they could be looking at four or five.”
Rio Ferdinand added: “I’m like every other fan around the world watching this game… frustrated.

“Disappointed in that first-half. The players no doubt will be the same but they have got to come out and do something.
“Ole said before the game that he basically set them up 4-2-4 and said to the front four ‘you’ve got to win it for us’ and the others sit back and defend.
“That hasn’t been good enough. Something has got to change.”
United came back fighting in the second, with Marcus Rashford halving the deficit before Maguire equalised.
And Ronaldo completed the comeback in the 81st minute to spark wild scenes around the Theatre of Dreams.

Solskjaer has two games to save Man Utd job say players with crunch clashes vs Atalanta and Liverpool on the horizon

MANCHESTER UNITED stars reckon Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s future hinges on the next two games.United have been briefing that Solskjaer’s position is safe and club bosses still believe he is the man to take them forward despite a poor run of results.

But some players view Wednesday’s Champions League clash with Atalanta and Sunday’s Premier League showdown with Liverpool as crucial to the future of the manager.
A source told SunSport: “Some of the players think Solskjaer has two games and that if United don’t win these two games, he could leave.
“They’re such important matches for the club in the Champions League and Premier League.
“It is a bad situation at the moment. It’s hard to see a big future for Solskjaer if United don’t win these games.”
After Saturday’s comprehensive defeat at Leicester, Paul Pogba publicly admitted something had to change and he is not alone in feeling frustrated.
The mood in the United dressing room is said to be similar to what it was back in March, following another beating by the Foxes.

In the wake of the FA Cup Sixth Round loss to Brendan Rodgers’ team, players expressed concern that Solskjaer was not the man who could lead the team to Premier League or Champions League glory.
But as has happened more than once in Solskjaer’s reign, the former United striker oversaw a series of good results just when he needed them
After that FA Cup defeat by Leicester, United won six of their next seven games including a 6-2 thumping of Roma in the first leg of the Europa League semi final.
Although United went on to lose the final to Villarreal on penalties after a limp display, that run and finishing second in the Premier League was enough to earn Solskjaer a contract extension to 2024, with the option of another year.
Sacking a fourth manager since Sir Alex Ferguson’s departure in 2013, especially in mid-season, would be a bad look for United.
A further complication is the imminent departure of executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward.

‘We’ve progressed over years’ – Ole Gunnar Solskjaer claims he is IMPROVING Man Utd despite poor start to season

OLE GUNNAR SOLSKJAER insists he is improving Manchester United as calls grow for a change of manager. The Red Devils’ 4-2 defeat away to Leicester City on Saturday saw them fall five points away from top spot after a run of one win from five in all competitions.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer insists he is improving Manchester UnitedCredit: Reuters
They face Italian side Atalanta at home tomorrow in the Champions League with a win and a defeat from their opening two games.
United went out at the group stage last season but finished second in the Premier League on the back of a third placed finish the season before.
Evidence enough, for Solskjaer, that things are still going in the right direction.
Solskjaer said: “We’ve progressed over the years. Sixth when I was here for half a season then third, second, you can see the progress, improvement and development and this season we still want to improve.
“Yeah, we’ve signed players that have raised expectations. Other teams have signed players and improved as well so we’re in the same boat as all the top teams.”
While question marks have grown over Solskjaer’s management he believes that comes with the job of trying to steer United back to the top and insists he and the Glazer ownership remain on the same page.

He said: “There’s pressure all the time. There’s pressure on me of course but we’ve been through this before and come through it stronger as individuals and as a team. I’m just looking forward to the response.
“I’m in dialogue with the club all the time and that’s an open and honest discussion all the time.
“We move on quickly to the next opponent and this is Atalanta which is a different opposition, a different competition and we focus on what we need to be good at in this game. “There’s been loads of stuff that hasn’t been good enough lately and we’ve put a few things right and hopefully we can see the result of that in the performance.”
The point is that every time Solskjaer asks for a response it means there hasn’t been one the game before.
It all feels a little confused – take this from the boss: “I think every coach, every manager, every player is the same.
“You have to know what you’re doing well as well, you look at things you’re making sure you enhance those things as well and try to eradicate the mistakes. If you don’t know what you’re doing well that’s a mistake in itself.”
     Erm right ok.
The problem is the mood in camp is not a good one.
The Red Devils have won just once in their last five matches in all competitionsCredit: PA
Big names like Cristiano Ronaldo and Raphael Varane have arrived with big expectations.
One was on the pitch at the King Power and did little, one was injured and powerless.
As for Jadon Sancho, are United sure they signed the right bloke?
At least they have a manager who refuses to buckle under the weight of criticism and expectation, which obviously intensified after Saturday’s 4-2 defeat.
He said: “When you ask about moods it’s not the gimmicky, jovial happy camp. We’re focused and determined.
“I’ve seen a reaction from the players and probably conceding four goals is a big eye opener for us that we need to improve on different levels on loads of details.
“It’s very important to bounce back. In the Champions’ League group stage you have six games if you win all three home games and get results away from home most likely you go through. And that’s what we’re aiming for now, a win against a very good Atalanta side would be massive for us and a big boost.”
Marcus Rashford was sat alongside Solskjaer in the pre-match Atalanta press conference, no doubt in a bid to alaye any fears that there might be a problem over the players admirable off field activities addressing child poverty.
Solskjaer said on Friday that it was time to prioritise his football but blamed the media for taking him out of context.
Marcus Rashford made a scoring return for United at LeicesterCredit: AFP
He said: “Just to get the elephant out of the room straightaway with the headlines that came after the chat I had before the Leicester game of course we’re so unbelievably proud of what Marcus has done on and off the pitch and you know what I said and you made a headline out of one little comment that I never intended to be the focus of what I was saying.
“I was saying about Marcus that now it must be nice for the boy to focus on going into training and not feeling his ankle or shoulder or back, now he can go and enjoy his football and I think you all know that so I just wanted to start with that so there’s no more questions on that one and Marcus is not asked about it but anyway I just wanted to start with that so we got it out of the way. “
    All cleared up then.
Rashford himself scored a cracking goal at Leicester to make it 2-2 and the coaches at Carrington have been impressed with the way he has been informing in training.
Perhaps he can now be the talisman to turn things around.
But he knows they have to defend better as a whole team to progress this season.
Rashford said:  “I think for us as players we have to go back to basics, look at ourselves and see what we can do better. We’ve had the conversation as a team as we would do whether we win a game or lose a game. We know the next game is another opportunity to improve and that’s always the aim.
“Especially in the Premier League you have to defend well and I don’t talk about just the back four. As a team you have to defend as one and against Leicester we were just too open. It’s as simple as that.
“They’re a good footballing team as there are a lot of them out there and it was too easy for them to play through us and we’re going to do our best not to let that happen again. This game is the first opportunity to show that’s what we’re focused on.”
And after the Atalanta game Solskjaer will once again know if he is progressing or is a rubbish manager, such is the day to day life of a Manchester United boss post Fergie.

Man Utd could follow Chelsea’s lead… sack club legend Solskjaer, and win the Champions League

SACK a legendary Champions League-winner; win the Champions League. The template is there for Manchester United, laid down by Roman Abramovich’s Chelsea last season.

Red Devils may have to sack their club legend, just as European champions Chelsea did with Frank Lampard earlier this yearCredit: Guardian News & Media / Free to use by all titles in perpetuity under NMC agreement
And although getting rid of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wouldn’t guarantee the Red Devils becoming European champions next May, it sure as hell would give the club a better chance.
Frank Lampard’s dismissal in January was so controversial with large swathes of Chelsea’s support that Abramovich actually felt the need to make an almost-unprecedented personal statement about it.
But four months later, Thomas Tuchel’s Blues had conquered Europe after adding structure and a clear identity to an excellent squad.
United now have world-class players in around nine of their 11 starting positions, and plenty of squad depth too.
Yet they are under-performing on a spectacular scale because they do not have an elite manager and, as a result, do not look like a proper team.
Abramovich recognised a similar situation at Stamford Bridge last season, reacted swiftly and reaped his rewards.

The chances of United doing the same any time soon is remote, according to club sources.
Solskjaer, United’s one-time baby-faced assassin, is now their bullet-proof manager. And nobody can quite understand why.
Since the jubilation of Cristiano Ronaldo’s homecoming, a flattering 4-1 win over Newcastle in September, Solskjaer’s side have won twice in seven matches.
And both of those victories were fortuitous — secured by an injury-time penalty save from David De Gea at West Ham and an injury-time winner from Ronaldo at home against Villarreal.
Saturday’s trip to Leicester seemed to sum up a club which makes all the wrong decisions — from making the 100-mile journey to the Midlands by plane to a shambolic performance in a 4-2 defeat.
While the rest of football goes carbon-zero, Solskjaer’s United are tactics-zero.
They lack intelligence. They lack a plan with and without the ball.
Paul Pogba’s heated post-match comments, including the claims that United ‘need to change something’ and ‘find the right mentality and tactics’, were taken in some quarters as exasperation with Solskjaer.
The Red Devils lost 4-2 away at Leicester on Saturday with the Foxes outplaying UnitedCredit: PA
If that is so, who could blame him?
We are probably about to re-enter the ‘blame Pogba’ stage of the endless United news cycle.
Pogba was poor at the King Power but the Frenchman  has seven  Premier League assists this season — three more than any other top-flight player.
And the midfielder won another trophy with France in the Nations League last week, with footage again emerging of him giving an impassioned team-talk in the dressing room, just as it did during their triumphant 2018 World Cup campaign.
Pogba is not a troublemaker. Sure, his agent may be a bit of a tit, but he  is a footballer with high standards who doesn’t suffer mediocrity gladly.
And Ronaldo isn’t the problem. He is still a world-class goalscorer. It’s just that he was never likely to be the solution, either.
United needed a top-class holding midfielder, but instead they chose the crowd-pleasing, social- media-blockbuster signing.
And it was another nostalgic move, too. Just as Solskjaer’s appointment was. United’s supporters used to accuse Liverpool fans of living in the past. Now the situation is reversed.
Much more of this and the official club colours will no longer be red, white and black but sepia with a rose tint.
United now face the fixture list from hell — before the end of next month, they meet all five of their fellow European Super League breakaway conspirators, as well as a Champions League double-header against group leaders Atalanta.
The over-achieving, low-budget Italians who terrify European football’s entitled old guard are capable of winning at Old Trafford on Wednesday night, despite having an entire team which cost less than £77million Jadon Sancho.
By the end of November, Solskjaer’s side could be out of the Champions League and effectively out of a Premier League title race which will be contested by three elite managers in Tuchel, Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp.
Solskjaer is the odd man out among managers of England’s top four clubs and it is no coincidence that unlike Manchester City, Chelsea and Liverpool, they aren’t as good as they should be.
Nobody at Chelsea delighted in Lampard’s sacking — he had been in charge for only 18 months, his first season had been encouraging, he helped re-connect the club to its root and his affection for the Blues was undoubted.

And if United ever sack Solskjaer, few people will rejoice in that, either. He is a good man, who smiles a lot and talks fondly of the Old Trafford club’s past.
But nostalgia is an affliction and sentiment is bunk in elite football.
    As Abramovich knows full well.

Man Utd transfer boost with Jules Kounde ‘telling agent to hold talks with club’ amid Chelsea interest in Sevilla star

CHELSEA target Jules Kounde has asked his representative to negotiate a deal with Manchester United, according to reports. The Sevilla defender, 22, was linked with a move to Stamford Bridge in the summer, but stayed with the LaLiga giants after the clubs failed to agree a fee.

However, El Nacional claim that the France star is telling his agent to hold talks with the Red Devils, even though Real Madrid are competing for his signature.
The story says that Kounde does not trust Los Blancos boss Carlo Ancelotti to give him the game time he craves, so he would favour a move to Old Trafford.
United are said to be ‘crazy’ about the opportunity to sign Kounde, but Sevilla want as much as £75million for the centre back.
Kounde recently starred for France as they won the Nations League by beating Spain.
While he has appeared eight times for Sevilla this season and was an integral part of their Europa League winning side in 2020.

Last summer, the Spanish giants and Chelsea were locked in talks over a deal for Kounde but couldn’t find a resolution.
“We all know the summer has been hectic, I wouldn’t say complicated. But that’s the past now,” he said in a press conference after the failed move.
“I am focused on the team. The most important performance is on the pitch.
“The team needs me and I need the team too to give my best and that’s what I’m trying to do.
“So far I’m happy with the results of the team and my personal performances, although I can still improve and have a better season than the previous one.”

Man Utd boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer admits to making ‘a few bad decisions’ in dismal 4-2 defeat at Leicester

MANCHESTER UNITED boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has confessed to making “a few bad decisions” after his side fell to defeat at Leicester. The Red Devils were powerless to stop the Foxes recording a 4-2 win at the King Power Stadium on Saturday.

Solskjaer opted to start captain Harry Maguire, who has missed the last four games for club and country through injury, after also losing Raphael Varane during the international break.
But the Three Lions centre back looked off the pace and was given a torrid time by his old team on his comeback.
Solskjaer told Sky Sports: “I pick the team and Harry showed no reaction after what he’s gone through.
“I hold my hand up if that doesn’t work out and sometimes that doesn’t.
“When you concede four, I’ve probably made a few bad decisions.”
United got off to the dream star with a Mason Greenwood wonder goal.
But sloppy defending allowed Leicester back in the game.
Solskjaer added: “The four goals we conceded were all very poor.
“The performance was definitely very below par and not good enough.
“We started with a very, very good goal with Mason and we’re knocking on the door to get another one but then sloppy play and we concede that first goals which is disappointing.
“Second half, still end-to-end but they create more chances.

Rashford’s last United outing came in the Europa League final defeat against Villarreal on May 26 where he scored in the penaly shootout.
But luck wasn’t on his side in the Euro 2020 final against Italy as he was one of three England stars to miss their spot-kick.
Following the tournament, Rashford decided to undergo shoulder surgery after stating he had been playing through injury for eleven months.
Ahead of United’s trip to the King Power Stadium, he told BBC Breakfast: “My recovery is – I wouldn’t say coming to an end because obviously I have to keep looking after it – but I’m in a much better place physically and mentally.
“Last year was a very long season for me, I got this injury at the end of September and gradually it got that little bit worse.
“But now I’m fully free of that, I feel much better physically and mentally.”
In his recovery, the Daily Mail have claimed that Rashford has added 4kg of muscle to his lower body.

They state that the player had gruelling triple sessions on the pitch and in the gym to work his way back up to full fitness.
It is understood that United wanted Rashford to bulk up in his bid to avoid further injuries.
United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been eager to have Rashford back in his team after the international break.
And the Norwegian gaffer has urged Rashford to ‘prioritise his football’ after being awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of Manchester.

Speaking in Friday’s press conference, he said: “Marcus has done some remarkable and fantastic things.
“But now he maybe needs to prioritise his football.

The astonishing Louis Vuitton Malle Vendome boasts eight drawers for the stunning brunette’s most expensive bracelets, necklaces and rings.
Georgina wrote alongside a photo of two of their four children getting their first glimpse of the gift: ‘I’m speechless, Cristiano.’
The Malle Vendome was designed to celebrate the opening of the new Louis Vuitton boutique on Vendome Square in Paris.
The 4ft 6ins high trunk has eight drawers as well as a mirror and a bust where Georgina can hang some of her most-treasured necklaces.
The pretty brunette draped herself in diamonds worth £78k at the beginning of last month when she arrived at the Venice Film Festival wearing four glitzy rings, floral necklace and earrings by Giardini Segreti.

Georgina, who posed for photos with fashion editor Anna Dello Russo at the glitzy event, was earning £10-an-hour when she met and started dating Cristiano in the summer of 2016.
She will also star in a new soon-to-be-released Netflix documentary focusing on her rags-to-riches life.
The mum-of-one, who helps raise Cristiano’s other three children as if they were her own, will admit in the documentary she is waiting for Ronaldo to pop the big question and put a ring on her finger.
And that would no doubt take pride of place in her new jewellery trunk.
She included the admission in a clip for the show which she posted on Instagram last month.
Asked in Spanish over dinner on a boat with friends when she was going to marry the 36-year-old, Georgina initially said ‘no’ as she grinned before appearing to nod her head towards the Portuguese goal-scoring machine and add: “It doesn’t depend on me…..I wish.”
The pretty brunette used the word ‘Ojala’ in Spanish which is of Arabic origin, deriving from the expression ‘Mashallah or ‘Masha’Allah’ which literally means ‘Should God will it’ and translates into English as ‘Hopefully’ or ‘Let’s Hope So.’
