‘I have to censor for TV’ – Atalanta boss reveals what he told Cristiano Ronaldo after last-minute Man Utd goal

ATALANTA boss Gian Piero Gasperini has declared he wishes Cristiano Ronaldo leaves him alone after he rescued Manchester United once again in the Champions League. The 36-year-old, who has scored five European Cup goals from his four outings this season, banged in a double against the Serie A outfit on Tuesday night.
Atalanta gaffer Gian Piero Gasperini has lauded Cristiano Ronaldo following the 2-2 draw against Manchester UnitedCredit: Reuters
His dramatic volley in second half stoppage time earned the Red Devils a vital point in Group F to leave them top with two games to play.
Ronaldo broke Atalanta fans’ hearts two weeks ago when he again got on the score sheet at the death as United came back from 2-0 down to win 3-2.
And speaking after the draw at the Gewiss Stadium, Gasperini lauded the Portugal international, who has come under criticism in recent weeks.
But he failed to divulge what he exactly said as he joked it wasn’t suitable for television.
Quoted by AS, he remarked: “I heard [some] say that Ronaldo was a problem, imagine!
“He rarely misses the target, nine out of ten shots he hits the target.

“Half of the time he shoots it is a goal, the other half are saved by the goalkeeper.
“I said something to him in Italian, but I have to censor it here on television.
“I can’t say it here. Basically, I told him ‘come on, go for a walk’. Let me be left alone.”
Ronaldo, who has fired in six goals against Atalanta in his career, has admitted that United were lucky to come away with a point.
He said: “It was a difficult game. I know when we play in Bergamo it is always difficult, but we believe until the end and I am so happy.
“We never give up, we believe until the end, it is a good result for us.

“The beginning was tough, we knew Atalanta would do a lot of pressure, they have a fantastic coach.
“When I played at Juventus they were always difficult to play against. We were a little bit lucky in the end but that is football.
“We have to still improve, we have different players, different system, we have to adapt with each other, but it will take time. We have time to improve and be better.”

‘He’s away with the fairies’ – Scholes says Pogba will need babysitting in Man Utd midfield ‘until he’s 35’ in TV rant

PAUL POGBA is ‘away with the fairies’ and will need to be babysat in the Manchester United midfield ‘until he’s 35’, according to a fuming Paul Scholes. The French midfielder, 28, endured another tough day at the office during Tuesday night’s 2-2 draw at Atalanta.

Scholes didn’t hold back after the game against Atalanta, seemingly laying into Pogba for his lack of maturityCredit: BT Sport
Pogba was hauled off for Nemanja Matic in the second half as Cristiano Ronaldo yet again bailed United out of jail with a last-gasp leveller.
The 2018 World Cup winner was shown a straight red for a horror lunge on Naby Keita during the 5-0 mauling at the hands of arch-rivals Liverpool in his last game out before his trip to Bergamo.
And Scholes has questioned Pogba’s maturity – suggesting he needs an experienced pro to hold his hand for the rest of his career.
After the game, Scholes ranted on BT Sport: “[Pogba] needs somebody on him all the time… somebody there that he totally respects, he needs experienced people behind him.
“How old he? 28? He’s a really experienced player. But he’s one of them that will get to 35 and be exactly the same.
“He’ll still be doing the stupid stuff where he’s stud rolling the ball, holding people off showing how strong and skilful he is.

“The biggest thing with Paul is his concentration. He goes away with the fairies at times.
“You think of the Juventus team he played in, where he was brilliant and was why we signed him.
“The experience around him – [Andrea] Pirlo, [Giorgi] Chiellini, [Leonardo] Bonucci, [Gianluigi] Buffon, an aggressive manager…
“He will need that treatment until he’s 35.”
Scholes’ fellow pundit Rio Ferdinand suggested Ronaldo could be just the person to make sure Pogba keeps his head on straight.
Ferdinand: “I can’t think of anyone else other than Cristiano that would get a hold of Paul and going ‘I’ll be on to you half time.’
“Maybe it’s a generational thing, maybe it’s different now.
“In our changing room these conversations would be going on.”
Earlier, Scholes and Ferdinand revealed they feared Manchester City will thump United with Raphael Varane injured and Harry Maguire enduring a nightmare run of form.

Scholes warns ‘shaky’ Man Utd could get thrashed AGAIN vs Man City as legend slams Harry Maguire after Atalanta draw

PAUL SCHOLES has warned Manchester United face another thrashing when they take on City this weekend – while slamming Harry Maguire following his Atalanta horror show.Cristiano Ronaldo bailed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer out of jail yet again with both of his side’s goals in the 2-2 draw in Bergamo.

But Scholes fears the Portuguese legend’s heroics are merely serving to paper over the cracks at United.
After the Champions League thriller in Italy, Scholes warned United face a massacre against Pep Guardiola’s champions with Raphael Varane going off injured and Maguire ‘not with it’ amid a tough run of form.
Scholes told BT Sport: “It was a little bit messy. When Varane went off (injured) it seemed to go all over the place again.
“They were really shaky, the quality in the middle of the pitch wasn’t great again, giving the ball away far too often.
“I don’t know if Harry Maguire is still injured or has got a hangover from the Euros, but he doesn’t look right, he’s not with it at the minute.
“With a performance like that second half, and no Varane on Saturday, it has to be a worry.

“City will think they have a good chance of winning, and with no Varane it makes it more difficult for United.”
Scholes’ fellow pundit and former team-mate Rio Ferdinand agreed – fearing United could ‘get slapped’ against their local rivals.
Ferdinand added: “If United go out with that second half performance against Manchester City they will get slapped again, three, four, five goals.
    “The intensity was not there.
“You look at it and you say what formation are they playing?
“They were in disarray… Cristiano Ronaldo saved them in the second half.
“Varane covers both sides very well and as soon as he went off they just looked so shaky, a complete lack of confidence.
“They went to a four and it looked like Atalanta could get through this team at any time.
“United were fortunate Atalanta didn’t score any more and the great man stepped up.”

Man Utd verdict: Cristiano Ronaldo ready to show Man City what they missed out on after latest superhero act vs Atalanta

CRISTIANO RONALDO seems to be on a mission to show Saturday’s opponents Manchester City what they missed out on.Another two goals from the Portuguese veteran earned Manchester United a point they barely deserved in Bergamo.
Cristiano Ronaldo is making a habit out of saving Man Utd’s skin – and to think, he could have been doing it for City insteadCredit: AFP
And you can be sure the 36-year-old will dust himself down and be ready for the Manchester derby.
The champions were offered the chance to sign the legendary star when their hopes of landing Harry Kane were finally dashed in August.
And if City boss Pep Guardiola had pushed his board to do the deal, he could well have been wearing sky blue at Old Trafford on Saturday rather than red.
As it was the Etihad chief was not convinced the former Real Madrid man was the right fit for him.
Two months on it will be interesting to know if his view has changed.
Where would United and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer be without Ronaldo this season?

Ronaldo’s goals in Bergamo made it nine in 11 appearances since he returned to United.
He has a habit of getting them out of jail – even when they have no right to.
That’s just the kind of thing City have missed when dropping points in recent home matches against Southampton and Crystal Palace.
Ronaldo loves this competition and seems hell bent on leading United into the knock-out rounds – something they failed to do so disappointingly last year.
His late winners against Villarreal and Atalanta at the Theatre of Dreams gave them a decent base to work from ahead of last night.
And here he hauled United back into the game firstly with a superbly worked equaliser after another dismal first half showing.
That meant he has scored in all four matches in the competition this season – including the opening defeat at Young Boys.
Imagine his reaction if his club do fail to make it past the group stage again.
Ronaldo scored another last-gasp goal to snatch a point for United in BergamoCredit: AP
But he wasn’t finished there – firing in from the edge of the box in stoppage time just when they looked to be heading for a fourth straight away defeat in this competition.
This was the veteran’s first game back in Italy since leaving Juventus in the summer and the home fans booed his every touch early on.
Their ill feeling was obviously not shared by the Atalanta bench though –  coach Gian Piero Gasperini came for a chat with him at half-time and the pair ended up embracing.
Duvan Zapata’s goal early in the second half – which was awarded by the VAR – undid all the good work that Ronaldo had done in getting United back in.
And heading into stoppge time, Ronaldo cut a frustrated figure until the chance came for him to save them – yet again.
On this evidence, Solskjaer’s men are going to need a miracle to get the better of a City team who have turned in some scintillating recent displays.
Ronaldo has produced a few in his long career – you wouldn’t put it past him doing it again.

Watch David de Gea howler as Man Utd goalkeeper lets Ilicic’s strike go straight THROUGH him in crunch Atalanta clash

DAVID DE GEA gifted Atalanta the lead in Manchester United’s crunch Champions League clash in Italy after an horrific howler. After sneaking all three points in the reverse fixture at Old Trafford a fortnight ago after a second-half turnaround, United knew a win would put them within touching distance of the last-16.
Atalanta lead Man Utd! ⚫️🔵A familiar situation arises for the Red Devils once again!Just like at Old Trafford in matchday three, there’s work for Ole Gunnar Solskjær’s men to do in Bergamo… pic.twitter.com/QMgI8KpyGa— Football on BT Sport (@btsportfootball) November 2, 2021

But with Villarreal hot on their heels, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Co couldn’t afford to lose.
And De Gea, 30, put United in real danger of slipping to defeat after his 12th-minute blunder.
Duvan Zapata picked up a pass – fortuitously deflected off Scott McTominay – before cutting the ball back to Josip Ilicic on the edge of the box.
The Slovenian forward – who has a tattoo of United’s arch-rivals Liverpool on his leg – thumped the ball first time with his left foot.
While powerful, the effort was straight at De Gea for what should have been a comfortable save.
But the Spaniard somehow allowed the ball to squeeze underneath him, deflecting off his elbow and into the back of the net.

Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live, ex-England midfielder Leon Osman slammed De Gea for the blunder.
Osman said: “This is a shocker from David de Gea.
“It’s a quick shot, but it’s tame – it’s a side foot which should be straight to the body of De Gea.
“He half dives past it and puts his arms where his feet would be.
“We’ve seen him make some good saves over the years but he’s made a right hash of that one.”
Speaking on BT Sport, ex-England international Eni Aluko said: “Was there a distraction for David de Gea?
“He should save it but it has been sloppy from United. They need to step it up.”
The goal means United have still only managed ONE clean sheet in their last 15 Champions League games, with their leaky defence exposed once again.
Cristiano Ronaldo TWICE equalised for United – late in each half – as Solskjaer and Co snatched a vital point.
Villarreal beat Young Boys 2-0 to ensure Unai Emery’s side drew level on points with United.
But Atalanta in third place are just two points adrift, with Young Boys just two further back with Group F still wide open with two games to go.

‘It is blasphemy’ – Cristiano Ronaldo criticism since return to Man Utd is ‘disrespectful disgrace’, slams Rio Ferdinand

MANCHESTER UNITED legend Rio Ferdinand has described some of the criticism aimed at Cristiano Ronaldo this season as ‘blasphemy’ and a ‘disgrace’.The 36-year-old returned to Old Trafford in August from Juventus on an initial deal until 2023 – 12 years after departing for Real Madrid.

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner has been a key player under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer – chipping in with seven goals and one assist from ten games in all competitions.
But despite his impressive return, fans and pundits have questioned whether he is suited to this current United team.
He disappointed in the defeats against Leicester and Liverpool, with some supporters hitting out at his pressing.
However his ex-team-mate Ferdinand has defended the Portugal international when speaking on his FIVE YouTube channel.
He said: “I’ve heard some talk and the only way I can explain it is it’s blasphemy, when I heard some people talking about Ronaldo’s the reason why Man Utd aren’t going to be a success.
“Ronaldo turning up at Man Utd, and yeah it’s great, but he’s going to be the reason why they don’t do anything.

“Listen, I’ve been seeing too much of it, don’t talk like that. Please, it’s a disgrace. Absolute disrespect.
“A player that’s done what he’s done in the game, a superstar of any generation, he’ll be one of the best players in any generation you can think about, and even again he just told people at the weekend what he’s about here… pressure’s on [and] he scores.
“To think that because he doesn’t press, because he doesn’t run as much as other people… that’s not what he’s there for.
“You play to people’s strengths sometimes, you can do that when you’ve got a superstar in your team sometimes for certain clubs.”
Before adding: “When you look at [Romelu] Lukaku, [Robert] Lewandowski, Karim Benzema… some of the best goalscorers of this generation.
“Are they players that you look at and go ‘he doesn’t half work hard, he doesn’t half press the opposition. Harry Kane, he’s a great presser of the opposition isn’t he…’
“But we’re all talking about them like they’re great players. No one is questioning their work rate, their pressing ability.

“Let’s have it right, it’s got to be the same for someone like Ronaldo. It’s the bigger picture at United, the structure of the team, it was other things.”
Ronaldo will be looking to add to his tally on Tuesday night when United face Atalanta in the Champions League group stage.

Man Utd star Paul Pogba ‘chooses Juventus transfer over Real Madrid and PSG but Italians must first sell Aaron Ramsey’

PAUL POGBA reportedly favours a move back to Juventus in 2022 with Manchester United resigned to losing the midfielder on a free transfer.Though it has been claimed that the Old Lady will have to offload at least two midfielders in order to snap him up – including Arsenal icon Aaron Ramsey.

Juventus midfielder Aaron Ramsey may have to be sold in January in order for the Italians to sign PogbaCredit: Getty
World Cup winner Pogba is in the final year of his contract at Old Trafford and is free to talk to foreign clubs in the New Year.
He had hinted at staying at United last month after declaring that he loves playing alongside Cristiano Ronaldo.
But SunSport understands that talks to extend his stay at the Theatre of Dreams have been shelved following the 5-0 defeat against Liverpool.
The 28-year-old, who was sent off against the Reds, has been linked with moves to Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain as well as the Bianconeri.
But according to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Pogba’s priority is to return to Turin to link up with Massimiliano Allegri’s side.
He is said to have told agent Mino Raiola that Juventus is the club he wants to play for, despite tempting proposals from Los Blancos and Les Parisiens.

But the Italian news outlet states that in order to give Pogba a three-year deal, Juve must first offload peripheral figures in their side.
They state that the Serie A giants will look to sell Ramsey, who is believed to be raking in £400,000-a-week at the Allianz Stadium, in the upcoming transfer window.
And the club will also try and offload another midfielder not in the plans of Allegri.
That player could be USA international Weston McKennie, who has been linked with a £25million switch to Tottenham, Aston Villa and West Ham in January.
Following Pogba’s straight red card against Liverpool, United legend Paul Scholes declared that the Frenchman should never play for the Red Devils again.
Speaking after the humiliating defeat, he remarked: “Paul Pogba coming on to the pitch at half time to try to help the team and maybe get a little respectability about it, tries to stand on the ball, tries to show how strong he is in the middle of the pitch… gives the goal away.
“Then later on gets sent off with a ridiculous tackle, now you’re 5-0 down with ten men. You’d have to think, if Ole’s still a manager there, will we see Pogba again in a United shirt?
“He’s caused mayhem over the last couple of years. Everyone knows what a talent he is, everybody trusts him, every manager trusts him, tried to give him his head and let him be the player he’s been.
Man Utd’s biggest transfers ever, both in and out, including Ronaldo
“But with all the commotion, not signing his contract, almost holding the club to ransom, and then he comes on and does something like that.
“It’s not Ole’s fault, don’t get me wrong, but that’s part of it which almost summed the United performance up today.
“Look, he probably will play [again] won’t he? But I don’t think they will be missing anything if he doesn’t.
“He’s had numerous chances, he keeps saying he lacks consistency, but that is just [a lack of] discipline and disrespect for your manager and your teammates, what he’s done today.”

Tottenham target Antonio Conte’s hair through the years, from full thatch at 20 to balding at Juventus to transplant

HE could be hair today, gone tomorrow.Antonio Conte, 52, is believed to be leading the race to take over the reigns at Tottenham.
Antonio Conte is the hot favourite to take over from Nuno Santo at Man Utd
Nuno Santo has been given his marching orders after a woeful start to his reign.
And while Spurs fans have been pulling their hair out in recent weeks, you can bet Conte won’t be grabbing at his if he replaces Nuno.
The Italian tactician’s thatch has been the talk of the football world through the years.
From when he started as a player at Lecce with fuller hair to a comb over at Juventus and now a mop as a manager, SunSport looks at Conte’s ever-changing hairstyles through the years.
    1988
At the tender age of just 20, Conte began his football career with his hometown club Lecce.
Ahead of the 1988-89 season, he posed for a club photo – showing off an impressively thick head of hair a Hollywood film star would’ve wanted.
At this point, there was very little indication he was losing any.

    1993
Within five years, a bald spot appears to be forming on the top of Conte’s head.
He decides the best thing for it is to shave his hair, perhaps to disguise the balding.
Still, he is as competitive as ever – flying into a tackle against rivals Inter Milan.

    1994
When representing your country, it’s imperative you look the part.
Especially if that’s at a World Cup, like this snap from 1994 was.
As Conte lined up against Mexico, there are some curls in there and although it’s bushy on the side you can’t help but see scalp on the front.

    1996
Deciding to grow his hair long now, Conte has blonde locks added for distraction. His hairline has taken a huge hit – perhaps with the added pressure of playing for Italy’s most famous club.
This photocall snap from the mid-90s shows a definite thinning up top.
But he kept on growing it.

    1999
A goal against Manchester United in the Champions League is wildly celebrated by Conte whose hair is flapping around as he wheels away.
Interestingly, although there’s not much on top there’s lots to work with on the back and sides.
You could say he’s just about getting away with it. Has he already had a hair transplant by this point?

    2003
Four years later, Conte has come up with a clever plan – one that worked well for Bobby Charlton many moons ago.
By growing longer strands of hair and splitting it into a side-parting coming out the sides it appears that he has more hair than before.
Certainly less scalp on show, that’s for sure.

    2007
Conte took on the Arezzo post for his first job in management.
Many lose their hair after years of coaching in the game, but Antonio was a trend-setter in that regard.
He sported a shaved head, with clues that he might’ve had Follicular Unit Transplantation.
This is where strips of flesh are removed from the back of the head and then implanted into incisions in the area of the scalp affected by hair loss.
An indication Conte had a hair transplant was when he showed off a completely shaved look as Arezzo bossCredit: Getty – Contributor
    2012
Five years later, and it’s a miracle.
Looking very much like a stylish Italian banker, Conte is managing Juventus with a thicker hairdo.
There’s a slight side-parting that hints there’s more to come.
By 2012, Conte’s hair was back with a vengeance
    2016
Another few years down the line, Conte is happily wearing a thick fringe in press conferences as Chelsea boss.
There’s no curls, though, like he had in his youth – it’s a dead straight hairdo.
Still, he appears happy with the results.

    2018
Confident Conte is now happy to lift his fringe and slick it back like an action hero.
As he kisses the FA Cup, there’s absolutely no sign of thinning here – and he looks a bit like Dimitar Berbatov.
Sadly, it wasn’t enough to avoid him getting the sack a few months later.

    2021
    Today’s Conte cuts a thicker-haired figure.
Bouffant up top, it’s a million miles away from his wispy look some 25 years earlier.
At the unveiling of the Serie A title, Conte proudly showed off his mane – with not a bit of grey there.
Could taking the Tottenham job affect that though?
