      CRISTIANO RONALDO has been branded ‘irritating’ and a ‘prima donna’ for the way he waves his hands and moans at his Manchester United team-mates.The Portuguese legend, 36, came back to Old Trafford last summer and is currently top scorer with 14 goals in 22 appearances this term.

      But his romantic return to the Theatre of Dreams is turning into a nightmare with the Red Devils facing a huge fight to secure a place in next season’s Champions League.
      Ronaldo took aim at some of the youngsters in United’s squad last week as he told them to listen to his advice so they can finish in the top-three this term.
      That came after numerous instances of the forward, who missed the 2-2 draw at Aston Villa on Saturday, having a go at them on the pitch.
      Now Garth Crooks, who played for United during the 1980s, has told the icon that he should be looking at his own behaviour instead of taking aim at his colleagues.
      In his Team of the Week column for BBC Sport, Crooks wrote: “Manchester United interim boss Ralf Rangnick wants his players to hold each other to account after Cristiano Ronaldo questioned their mentality.
      “Ronaldo has expressed concern about the attitude of some his team-mates and suggested it needs to be better for United to be successful this term.

      That took his tally to 33 goals, plus 22 assists, since he headed to Old Trafford in January 2020.
      Only Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah (45) and Tottenham striker Harry Kane (34) have scored more in the Premier League during that period.
      Fernandes penned a five-year deal with the option of a further 12-months when he came to United.
      We revealed several months ago that Fernandes was in talks over a new bumper contract to boost his wages up to around £250,000-a-week.
      Now The Athletic are reporting that ‘those talks have been temporarily shelved’ after the ex-Sporting Lisbon midfielder’s representatives turned down an offer in the autumn. 
      They claim that talks will resume again in May once the current campaign has finished.

      Manchester United goalie David de Gea’s partner Edurne, who gave birth to their first child Yanay last March, was among the celebs who posted likes.
      Georgina’s sister Ivana, who became a mum in December, and Cristiano Ronaldo’s sister Katia Aveiro also commented on the snap with heart emoticons.
      The pretty brunette, who stars in an Netflix docu-series about her rags-to-riches life which is out on January 27, appeared to be getting ready for a photographic shoot.

      CRISTIANO RONALDO chose to spend his Sunday relaxing in his pool wearing a pair of tiny swimming shorts as he recovers from injury.The 36-year-old missed Manchester United’s 2-2 draw at Aston Villa with a thigh issue.

      SunSport exclusively revealed he left training early because of a new injury, and it saw him miss the trip to Villa Park.
      Interim chief Ralf Rangnick said: “With Ronaldo, it’s unfortunate, it’s still the same problem.
      “I had a conversation with him yesterday before and after training and he decided he’s not fully fit, but hopefully he’ll be available on Wednesday.”
      Ronaldo was looked at by United’s medical specialists before driving home where he will make use of his own private oxygen chamber he has had put in his house.

      “I went to see Sir Alex in pre-season, we had an amazing team of great personalities and players, and said I don’t feel worthy of being captain.
      “And he said, ‘You’ll keep that f***ing armband, son. You and Giggs will rotate it’.
      “He said ‘if I give it to Ronaldo, Rooney will kick off. If I give it to Vidic, Ferdinand will kick off’.
      “It was for camaraderie, we were the policemen in the dressing room, keeping things together but I felt unworthy at that stage.”

      The former England star recalled: “I had Roy Keane as captain for ten years and Roy left really quickly and unexpectedly part-way through the season.
      “It was a huge shock and you couldn’t replicate Roy. I worked with him, Bryan Robson and Steve Bruce and they were special characters, with influence over a dressing room.
      “I couldn’t take over from Roy and be Roy, I’m not the same in character and influence.
      “I wanted to be true to myself, I was PFA union rep from the age of 23, I believed in players sticking together.
      “I think Sir Alex chose me ahead of Ryan Giggs because he was in and out of the team as Sir Alex liked to rotate his players and I was playing every single week.
      “In the five or six years I was captain it was me, Ryan and Scholes as captains. We worked together to make sure we set the tone and standards in the dressing room.
      “It was a different approach to Keane and Robson, they had influence. Roy was the most influential player I’d seen on and off a football field.”
      Rooney also opened up on his relationship with Ronaldo following the Portuguese star’s infamous wink at Euro 2004, saying it ultimately made them CLOSER.
      Ronaldo ran over to the referee in a bid to get Rooney sent-off for his stamp on Ricardo Carvalho.
      Rooney recalled: “When he ran over to ask Elizondo to send me off I pushed him away. In that moment I couldn’t believe what he was doing.
      “But sitting in that dressing room gave me time to calm down and think.
      “I put myself in Ronaldo’s shoes. Would I do the same? Probably. Would I be in the ref’s face to make sure he got sent off?
      “If he deserved the red, if it would help us win — yes, no question. I’d do it tomorrow.
      “I thought, ‘Actually, I tried to get him booked in the first half for diving’.
      “And the wink thing, I didn’t see anything in that at all. It was nothing. So I calmed down.”

      LIVERPOOL failed to sign Cristiano Ronaldo only a week before he joined Manchester United after Sir Alex Ferguson gazumped his rivals, according to Phil Thompson.The then-Reds assistant boss has revealed that his team were one of many English clubs interested in the Portuguese forward.

      In recalling the 2003 transfer to The Athletic, Thompson states that a £4million fee was required.
      He noted: “I asked what kind of salary he would want and they said it was £1 million per year after tax. That was a lot for an 18-year-old kid but they said that was negotiable.
      “It was a Sunday and I explained to them that I needed to go back to Liverpool and speak to Gerard Houllier and see what we could do. I fed all the information back to Gerard, who said he would speak to [chief executive] Rick Parry.
      “Lo and behold, the following week I’m at Melwood when the yellow ticker on Sky Sports News says: Manchester United sign Cristiano Ronaldo from Sporting for £12.2m.
      “I couldn’t believe my eyes.”
      As Thompson says, United had not paid the £4m fee earlier touted and he was left shocked at how the figure changed overnight.

      The former defender continued: “Tony told me that when he’d got off the plane on the Monday he had got a call to say he was off the deal. It was down to Stretford and Mendes instead.
