      True enough, he was an expert penalty taker.
      But the majority of an amazing 51 goals in 414 appearances for Manchester United were down to plain, old-fashioned guts going for corners.
      In 1990-91 he hit the net an astonishing 19 times and was Old Trafford’s joint-leading league scorer with Brian McClair as United won the Cup Winners’ Cup and Sir Alex Ferguson’s side were gearing up for future Prem domination.
      A couple of years later as United made it back-to-back title wins he hit the net seven times in all competitions.
      Compare his record to the current central defenders at the club.

      What’s more there has been only one goal from a set piece all season.

      The club website proudly proclaimed that he would ‘take ownership’ of the side’s set pieces.
      Yet while Liverpool, for instance, have scored ten goals from corners since, Ramsey’s work in the background would appear redundant.
      Either that, or given that he arrived with a glowing reputation, nobody is listening to him and not just the central defenders.
      Ferguson’s teams, while lauded for their attacking skills, still sometimes struggled to score and a header from a Bruce, Gary Pallister, Bryan Robson or a Roy Keane would often make the difference.
      This United, flailing for credibility, could do with one of them instead of constantly relying on Cristiano Ronaldo to get them over the line.
      And when he isn’t scoring, as he had failed to do for six games in a row until his beauty of an opener against Brighton, then they flail even more.
      Winning ugly has certainly not gone out of fashion.
      Within a side where the Beautiful Game has become only a fond memory it would surely help if someone was prepared to stick his head in where it hurts to scramble a winner.
      The ugly truth is it never seems to happen.
      There has to be a reason for that, too.

      The arrival of his first born child isn’t the only success Van De Beek is hoping to have in 2022.
      Van De Beek will be praying that his loan spell at Everton goes to plan.
      And the on-loan Manchester United midfielder has got off to a good start, earning praise after his standout performance in the 3-0 win over Leeds.

      John Terry left the stadium on crutches following a challenge with Rooney and the FA stepped in to ask the Derby County boss for his observations.
      However Rooney was let off with a warning after the Rams boss wrote to explain why his comments had been misinterpreted.
      He explained his comments centred around his mood in the build-up to the game – but did not apply to the Terry tackle which he insists was a fair 50-50 challenge.

      The Portuguese superstar, who finally ended his goal drought with a strike in last night’s win over Brighton, is reportedly ‘annoying’ the Red Devils squad as he wants to ‘lead’ the club.
      Ronaldo returned to Old Trafford last summer and is currently their top goalscorer with 15.
      But he has suffered a dramatic dip in form since Ralf Rangnick’s arrival and had gone six matches without finding the net until his superb effort against the Seagulls.
      However, United are enduring a difficult campaign and face a huge fight to secure their top four status.
      That has led to speculation that Ronaldo could leave at the end of the season with some reports stating he wants a crisis meeting with his agent Jorge Mendes over the coming weeks.
      There have also been rumours of dressing-room unrest and a number of cliques within the United squad.

      RALF RANGNICK has made his first Manchester United ‘signing’ – by telling Brandon Williams he will definitely return to Old Trafford at the end of his loan to Norwich. The 21-year-old defender has done well this season at Carrow Road, winning the club’s player of the month award in January.

      But the England Under-21 international is set to head back north in the summer after Rangnick made clear to the United academy product he was part of the plan going forward. 
      A source said: “Brandon couldn’t play when United took on Norwich in December because of the loan deal agreement. 
      “He watched the game and was saying hello to some of the United players he is mates with when Rangnick made a beeline for him.
      “He said he was aware of him, that he rated him and that he definitely wanted him back at United when the loan deal ends. 
      “So the message was ‘keep working hard and enjoying playing and you have a big future ahead of you at United’.

      The first of those came all the way back in 2002 for Sporting Lisbon as a fresh-faced 17-year-old teenager.
      Ronaldo opened his account for the Portuguese outfit in a 3-0 win over Moreirense in the Primeira Liga.
      The man in goal that day was a certain Joao Ricardo.
      Ricardo is a former Angola international who retired way back in 2011… and is now 52-years-old.
      It was some goal as well, with Ronnie pulling out one of his now trademark mazy runs, complete with bamboozling step-overs, and finished off with a composed strike past a helpless Ricardo.

      THE FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION have charged Manchester United for failing to ensure their players conducted themselves in an orderly fashion against Brighton.A strike from Cristiano Ronaldo, who ended his six-match goal drought, and Bruno Fernandes sealed a 2-0 victory for the Red Devils over the Seagulls.

      However, several United stars surrounded referee Peter Bankes after Brighton captain Lewis Dunk fouled Anthony Elanga early in the second half.
      The official initially showed Dunk a yellow card, but that was upgraded to a red after consultation with VAR.
      The initial decision to only caution the defender was protested vociferously by a number of United players.
      Fernandes was also booked for his over-the-top reaction during the protest.
      Now the FA have announced that they are set to take action against Ralf Rangnick’s side.
      A statement read: “Manchester United FC has been charged with a breach of FA Rule E20.1 following its Premier League game against Brighton & Hove Albion FC on Tuesday [15/2/22].

      Brighton boss Graham Potter revealed afterwards he felt the initial decision was correct but United’s players may have impacted the subsequent VAR decision.
      He said: “I don’t blame them (the United players). They have to do their bit for the team.
      “But you need the referee and VAR to make the calls independently.
      “It was a yellow card live, [Adam] Webster was there on the cover. It is not clear and obvious and I did not understand the intervention.”

      The England defender told the Mirror: “This is the crunch time of the season and it is very important in the league to get some momentum.
      “As a team we believe we can win the Champions League.
      “Not many people on the outside will think it and some will think I’m stupid for saying that.
      “But we have that belief and confidence that we can win it.
      “I’m sure everyone in this dressing room – the players, staff and management – all have that belief that we can.
