Man Utd axe £40m Aeroflot deal after sponsor is banned from UK following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine

MANCHESTER UNITED have officially ended their £40million sponsorship deal with Russian national airline Aeroflot. Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has led to United pulling the plug on their nine-year association with the official team carrier.

A Manchester United spokesperson said: “In light of events in Ukraine, we have withdrawn Aeroflot’s sponsorship rights.
“We share the concerns of our fans around the world and extend our sympathies to those affected.”
Prime Minister Boris Johnson recently revealed Aeroflot was banned from UK airspace.
Britain is also freezing the UK assets of Russian titans in banking and arms manufacturing, and sanctioning five more oligarchs.
Reports first emerged yesterday that United were considering ditching their deal with Aeroflot.
The two parties first teamed up back in 2013, with Aeroflot acting as the club’s official carrier ever since.

They then penned a deal for the sponsorship to continue in a deal worth £40million back in 2017.
That was set to run until 2023, until today’s announcement saw the contract cancelled early.
It’s claimed the club are now exploring other official airline partnerships, with Qatar Airways a possible alternative.
The club’s Aeroflot flight to Madrid was cancelled in midweek as a result of the ongoing crisis in Ukraine.
Ralf Rangnick’s men instead scrambled a plane from UK-based charter airline Titan Airways to head to Spain for their Champions League tie.
United’s share price has also plummeted since Russia invaded neighbouring Ukraine.
Elsewhere Russia have been stripped from hosting this year’s Champions League final, and the Formula One Grand Prix in Sochi.
Paris’ Stade de France has been chosen by Uefa to host the showpiece final instead of St Petersburg.

Man Utd target transfer for Chelsea star Rudiger as part of new-look defence which could leave Maguire future in doubt

MANCHESTER UNITED are reportedly ‘keen to land’ Antonio Rudiger on a free from Chelsea this summer – which could cast doubt on Harry Maguire’s future. The German defender, 28, is yet to agree a new contract with the Blues with his deal set to expire in June.

The move could cast doubt over the long-term future of Harry Maguire at Old TraffordCredit: Rex
SunSport previously reported that the German star’s situation was being monitored by the Red Devils.
Now The Mirror claims Ralf Rangnick is a ‘big fan’ of Rudiger and wants to bring him to Old Trafford in the summer.
And they state ‘it casts a shadow over the future of Maguire’ at United.
The skipper has endured a difficult campaign at Old Trafford after failing to hit top form following injury.
United have conceded the joint-most goals out of the Premier League’s top six and has led to many questioning whether Maguire has the ability to lead them at the top level.
They have also been linked with offering Dortmund’s Manuel Akanji a ‘dream’ move to England.

The No1 is due to be rewarded with a new contract this summer.
And the Spanish goalkeeper has opened up about the musical influences that get him in the right frame of mind.
He told Uefa.com: “It started when I was a child. I used to spend my summers in Alicante with my parents.
“There were some other boys around, a bit older than me, and they would listen to this kind of music, so I’d listen too.
“I love heavy metal and rock. It really motivates me. I love Slipknot, Avenged Sevenfold, System of a Down. I also like Bullet for My Valentine.
“I love a bit of everything, anything you can think of, Sinatra, for example. I love Spanish music as well. Honestly, I listen to everything.”

One of the 31-year old shot stopper’s best abilities is playing out the ball from the back.

And the former Arsenal and Chelsea striker claims that a Paris homecoming is ‘more than credible’.
Anelka spoke to RMC Sport in France about the potential of PSG preparing a lucrative package.
The 42-year-old said: “If Pogba wants to come to Paris? I discussed that six months ago with him and he would not be against coming to PSG.
“If he comes, we will forget all his injuries and we will see that he is a top player.
“I think PSG would be great for him. Some say it wouldn’t be good for Paris, as he is supposedly often injured.
“But I think his injuries are due to his life in Manchester, because he is not well psychologically.

New Man Utd third kit for 2022-23 LEAKED with fans fuming at ‘rip off of David de Gea’s current hi-vis goalkeeper strip’

MANCHESTER UNITED fans are fuming after next season’s third shirt was LEAKED. The Old Trafford faithful are raging as the concept is almost identical to David de Gea’s current goalie jersey.
The new style features a ‘semi solar slime’ colour with embossed chevrons around the chest
Critics have compared the leak to David de Gea’s current shirt designCredit: PA
Footy Headlines – a reputable source for kit leaks – have released a ‘likely design’ of United’s third strip next season.
The leaked 2022/23 shirt is a hi-vis yellow, also known as ‘semi solar slime’.
It features ‘chevrons zig zags’ around the chest and torso.
On Twitter, Red Devils fans reacted negatively.
One user said: “I swear they just hit copy and paste on this season goalkeeper kit lol.”
Another joked: “De Gea will play outfield?”

And one user mocked: “Will slap in the conference league to be fair.”
Ralf Rangnick’s team will be hoping that things continue to improve on the pitch.
The North West club have had a turn up in form recently, wining back-to-back Premier League games and gaining a hard-earned draw at Atletico Madrid on Wednesday night.
Anthony Elanga buried a gorgeous equalizer in the last-16 away leg to give Man Utd hope in the return clash.
The result was not enough to stop Thierry Henry and Jamie Carragher ripping into the squad though, accusing star players of being ‘unmanageable’.

The former Man Utd captain was last in the dug-out at struggling League One outfit Ipswich Town way back in 2011.
And the Irishman told Sky Sports that some star gazing saw him make the switch to punditry.
He said: “I was never that bothered about it.
“When you’re playing, you’re in the zone and I never took too much notice of what people were saying.
“I kind of just fell into it really when I just left Ipswich.
“United were in the Champions League final at Wembley (in 2011) and ITV got in touch asking if I would do a game.

“I was in my house in Ipswich thinking ‘will I, won’t I?’
“This is true, I think it was the Monday, a few days before the final, and they wanted an answer quickly.
“I read my horoscope that day and it said ‘you can’t keep saying no to people’ so I said ‘I’ll do it’.
“I don’t mind just giving my opinion and then going home.”
Keane eventually accepted ITV’s proposal for him to be a studio guest for the Champions League final between Manchester United and Barcelona at Wembley.
The 50-year-old continued to work with ITV as an analyst during their coverage of Euro 2012.
It was quite the turnaround for the United legend after previously saying that he would ‘rather go to the dentist’ than be a pundit.
He started working for Sky Sports in 2019 where he remains a fan favourite. More

Anthony Elanga saved United’s blushes with an equaliser in the first leg of the last-16 clash between the two clubs.
But his side were unconvincing on the night with the Spanish side dominating.
And Keane reckons his old side need to be more ruthless on and off the pitch.
The 50-year-old Irishman exclaimed: “You go and get the manager you want.
“You should go and get the right manager you think is right for your club.
“Never mind making excuses saying he’s not available for two years.
“You pay fortunes for players, so why not a manager?
“I don’t care who’s under contract. If you think he’s the right manager for Manchester United, well you go and get him.
“It can soon change. I don’t think it’s all doom and gloom, there’s still good things going on at United, but they’ve got to get the manager.
“If the manager is not right, then the rest will just fall apart.” More
