Man Utd make Nordi Mukiele one of their top defensive transfer targets with Ralf Rangnick keen on RB Leipzig ace

MANCHESTER UNITED have reportedly made RB Leipzig defender Nordi Mukiele one of their top transfer targets this summer. The Red Devils are keen to re-assert themselves as major players in the Champions and Premier League next season after an indifferent campaign in both competitions this term.

United’s hopes of a top-four finish in the Prem are looking increasingly perilous after they drew 0-0 with Watford on the weekend.
The Red Devils also face a tough task progressing in the Champions League following their 1-1 draw in the last 16 first leg against Atletico Madrid.
And interim boss Ralf Rangnick sees the rampant right-back Mukiele as one of four stars that can help United reclaim their seat amongst Europe’s elite, according to Fichajes.
The 24-year-old French national has been a key figure in Leipzig’s team this season and has featured in 21 of their 28 games in the Bundesliga thus far – scoring one goal and providing one assist along the way.
Rangnick will be confident he can snare Mukiele away from Leipzig as he was the man who brought the defender to the club back in 2018 for £13.3million from Ligue 1 side Montpellier.
If Rangnick’s ostensible pursuit of Mukiele is successful, he’ll arrive at Old Trafford as direct competition for the Red Devils’ present right-back pair Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Diogo Dalot.

Dalot’s impressive form this season has seen him replace Wan-Bissaka as United’s main right-back and the club will trigger their 12-month option to extend his contract to avoid losing him on a free transfer next year.
On the other hand, Wan-Bissaka’s campaign has been hampered by injury and he’s only featured in 17 of United’s 27 games this season – so his position is most likely to be under threat by Mukiele’s arrival.
United’s Premier League rivals Chelsea will likely be keeping a close eye on Mukiele’s dealings with the Mancunian giants – as they sent scouts to watch him when he was still at Montpellier – but a move failed to materialise.
Along with Mukiele – the Red Devils are also ardently pursuing Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly, West Ham midfielder Declan Rice, and Tottenham striker Harry Kane in a bid to shake things up at the club.
But United will have their work cut out acquiring the trio while they chase Mukiele.
Koulibaly recently revealed that he plans to stay with Napoli for the foreseeable future in an impassioned statement last month.
And despite United emerging as favourites to sign Harry Kane this summer – he won’t come cheap – with Spurs owner Daniel Levy wanting no less than £160m for the North Londoner’s star striker.
Rice will command a similar exorbitant transfer fee as the Hammers have made it clear that they want atleast £100m for their anchorman.
But Rice set tongues wagging over a potential switch to United in January when he admitted Old Trafford was one of his favourite stadiums to play in. More

But Ronaldo quickly put his misery behind him by jetting back to Madrid with partner Georgina and enjoying a fancy meal, according to AS.
The United star had only been back in Madrid last week for his side’s 1-1 Champions League draw at Atletico.
But Ronaldo is said to have done the ‘impossible’ in bagging a table at the ultra-exclusive Filandon restaurant in the Spanish capital.
Filandon is famous in the city for its coal-grilled meats and fish.
And the food doesn’t come cheap, either.
Starters cost between £10 and £24 – with the Iberico Ham the priciest opening course on the menu.

Desserts are much more reasonable though, with a creme caramel costing just £5 and the most-expensive sweet dish – a warm apple wafer with vanilla ice cream – £8.
After their luxurious dinner, Ronaldo and Georgina likely headed back to their £5million Madrid home.
In her recent Netflix documentary, Georgina admitted she used to get lost in the massive mansion when she first started dating the former Real Madrid chief.

‘We need to be sharper’ – Rangnick slams Man Utd strikers as Ronaldo and Co shut out in Watford flop

RALF RANGNICK has hit out at his Manchester United stars after another poor showing in front of goal on Saturday. Cristiano Ronaldo, Bruno Fernandes and Anthony Elanga were all guilty of wasting glorious opportunities in the 0-0 draw against Watford.

Manchester United have found scoring at home hard to come by as of late, finding the net just six times in their last seven games at Old Trafford.
And interim boss Rangnick, 63, has slammed his stars for their lack of sharpness in front of goal.
After the Watford stalemate, he said: “Our job as coaches is to help the team to create enough chances.
“If we’d only had two or three against Watford, we could ask ourselves why.
“But the number of chances we had, they have to be enough to win the game.
“We need to be sharper in front of goal. If you miss that many, it’s difficult to win.”

Ronaldo was left livid with Fernandes after the latter turned down the chance to square to him for a tap-in, instead shooting straight at Ben Foster.
But CR7 himself was guilty of missing a guilt-edged chance as well, which he reacted to by kicking out at the net in anger.
He did manage to get the ball in the back of the net at one point but was denied by the offside flag.
And to make matters worse he even appeared to block a goalbound effort from Fernandes, as the hosts failed to put away their chances.
The draw leaves the Red Devils in fourth place in the Premier League, but just two points ahead of fellow Champions League chasers Arsenal.
Mikel Arteta’s side have also played THREE less games than Rangnick and Co.
Things don’t get any easier in the coming weeks either, with a trip to cross-town rivals Manchester City on the cards next week, before games against Tottenham, Atletico Madrid and Liverpool.

Watch Cristiano Ronaldo rage at Bruno Fernandes after Man Utd team-mate refuses to set him up for tap-in vs Watford

CRISTIANO RONALDO was left fuming at Bruno Fernandes after the latter failed to set him up for an easy tap-in against Watford. Manchester United were held to a 0-0 draw by the relegation-threatened Hornets, with Ronaldo trudging off in disgust at full time.

It was another hugely frustrating afternoon for RonaldoCredit: Getty
But the home side had the perfect opportunity to break the deadlock just 12 minutes into the game after a brilliant flowing move.
Anthony Elanga passed into the feet of Ronaldo, who played the ball back into his path with a delightful back-heel.
Elanga then released Fernandes through on goal in the Watford box.
Ronaldo had continued his run into the area, but rather than slide in CR7 across the face of goal for a tap-in, Fernandes fired a tame effort straight at Ben Foster.
The decision left Ronaldo livid, with the 37-year-old throwing out his arms in disgust and shouting something in the direction of Fernandes.
He then dramatically pointed to his feet to signal he had been free for the simplest of tap-ins.

Watch Cristiano Ronaldo block Bruno Fernandes almost-certain goal as Man Utd star’s woes continue against Watford

CRISTIANO RONALDO’S Manchester United plight was summed up as he turned into a statue to somehow block a Bruno Fernandes’ shot.Ron stopped bolt upright in the middle of the penalty box in the 0-0 home draw with Watford  – grinding to a halt like United’s progress in the Prem.

Fernandes’ angled effort cannoned away off his Portugal team-mate, who even remained reluctant to move afterwards.
Ronaldo then looked exasperated at the final whistle as the Red Devils were booed off following their latest wasteful stalemate.
But the only time United got the ball in the net from 22 shots was a Ronaldo ‘goal’ ruled out for offside.
And ironically, it was the the 37-year-old who had a goal-bound shot blocked by United teenanger Anthony Elanga.
It was Ronaldo too who struck a post from arguably the Red Devils’ best chance.
Social media was split on the moment the legend freeze-framed himself in the box.

“Sad but something I think we need to accept. We give them too much stick at this point.
“Ronaldo is 37. No striker succeeds at that age in the Prem.”
There was also debate over whether Fernandes’ low drive was going in.
One observer posted: “The shot was literally going wide.”
But in response another tweet posted a picture of the shot with a line following the ball from Fernandes’ foot into the bottom corner of the net.
The line, though, looked rather dodgy – a bit like that between fourth-placed United and Arsenal just behind them.
Fans were unsure if Fernandes’ shot was going in before it hit Ronaldo

Cristiano Ronaldo shakes head at full-time and looks deflated after Man Utd drop points at home to strugglers Watford

STROPPY Cristiano Ronaldo shook his head in frustration at full-time as Manchester United dropped more points. The Red Devils could find no way past relegation-threatened Watford at Old Trafford this afternoon.

And superstar Ronaldo was once again not afraid to show his emotions in front of his team-mates, coaches and 75,000 fans.
The crestfallen Portugal hero – who has previously stormed down the tunnel after matches this season – stood still on the pitch with his hands on his hips.
He wagged his head and spat out in anger to the turf.
The cameras then cut to Bruno Fernandes who looked equally as baffled that United had somehow failed to score in the 0-0 stalemate.
Ralf Rangnick’s side mustered a total of 22 shots in the 90 minutes.
Yet just three of those were on target against Watford’s defence, supported by ex-United goalkeeper Ben Foster in the Hornets net.

Ronaldo managed just one dribble, 18 completed passes, four shots and 36 touches in his 90 minutes on the field.
He was also flagged offside twice, including when he stuck the ball in the net, and was dispossessed three times.
Earlier on he kicked out at the net as he let his rage out after missing a sitter.
And the result could prove another major dent in United’s hopes of finishing in the top four.
They are currently fourth on 47 points from their 27 matches.
But Arsenal are just two points behind with three games in hand as the race hots up.

Man Utd 0 Watford 0: Cristiano Ronaldo and Co flop again as Champions League hopes take huge dent with drab draw at home

RALF RANGNICK was left to bemoan more points blown in the race for the top four after dominating a game.Chance after chance was created but the lack of conviction in front of goal from this side is often startling.

Cristiano Ronaldo cannot complain about not seeing enough of the ball this time.
It was what he did with it when the goal beckoned that was the problem.
Watford don’t give many teams problems, but they did for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer last November with a 4-1 win that spelt the end for him.
Now they have taken another two points from them in a very tight battle for fourth place as boos range around Old Trafford.
If Manchester United miss out on it they will only have themselves to blame because of days like this.
For Watford, it could prove another vital one towards safety after their recent win away to Aston Villa.

Rangnick is not a man to shy away from bold moves whether in team selection or substitutions.
He made another four in this line-up leaving out Luke Shaw, Jadon Sancho, Marcus Rashford and most notably captain Harry Maguire from the midweek draw in Spain.
He rightly argued the need for fresh legs after that tough Champions League away trip to the LaLiga champions.
But this had been coming for Maguire, caught out again midweek for the goal.
A couple of weeks on the sidelines might actually do him good.
Rashford meanwhile is so far out of sorts.
Left out the starting line-up for three league games in a row now and hooked in the second half in the midweek.
You certainly could not argue with the way the four changes worked in the first half with United lively up front and in no danger at the back.
Their ten shots to four and 67 per cent possession told its own story.
The problem was the scoreline was the same as when they started, and we know what can happen to this United when they miss the chance of turning their dominance into goals.

They should have had at least three by the break.
Indeed the game was only four minutes old when Aaron Wan-Bissaka nicked the ball into the area, Ronaldo took a touch then dug a shot out of a busy area that hit the post.
He can moan a bit too much Ronaldo, when the ball is not finding him but he had every right to have a go at captain for the day Bruno Fernandes in the 12th minute.
It was a great move as Anthony Elanga exchanged passes with Ronaldo before sliding Fernandes in one-on-one.
Ronaldo had made up ground to receive a square ball and slide it into an empty net but Fernandes decided to have a go himself and the advancing Ben Foster smothered the shot.
It looked like it wasn’t going to matter when soon after Alex Telles crossed and Ronaldo got ahead of his man to touch the ball past Foster.
But he was just offside, as the 37-year-old often is nowadays.
The red waves kept crashing down on the Hornets.
Paul Pogba crossed from the left and Fernandes stuck out a right boot but steered the ball the wrong side of the near post.
Next up in the 27th minute, Ronaldo played it fair by staying on his feet but could easily have won a pen.

Foster kept a clean sheet on his latest return to Old TraffordCredit: Getty
The impressive Fred’s through ball was slowed down by Craig Cathcart’s sliding interception allowing Ronaldo to nip in and go round Foster who was in no man’s land.
Ronaldo could easily have gone over him, but he stayed up and the chance was gone as Watford’s defence had retreated.
Instead, he had to cross and Fernandes headed over.
The second half followed a similar pattern although Watford did have a chance when Samir met a corner straight after the restart but steered his header wide.
The rest of the action was virtually all at the other end, but still without the much-needed finish.
They were even stopping their own shots now as Elanga inadvertently did when Ronaldo fired goalwards.
Rangnick loves to shuffle his pack and has recently come up with the aces.
On came Sancho, then Shaw and Rashford.
    This time nothing was changing.
    The crowd’s frustration was growing.
With that United’s football gets shabby.
In the end, when Ismalla Sar sent a thunderbolt just over the angle, Watford had nearly won it themselves.

Man Utd ratings: Anthony Elanga excites but Bruno Fernandes and Cristiano Ronaldo wasteful in frustrating Watford draw

MANCHESTER UNITED huffed and puffed but just could not breakdown a stubborn Watford. And it was not for a lack of trying with the Red Devils having 22 attempts, though only three shots were on target.

Cristiano Ronaldo, Bruno Fernandes and Anthony Elanga were guilty of missing the best chances as United somehow failed to get all three points.
Elanga was dangerous throughout and should have had an assist inside five minutes but Ronaldo hit the post.
CR7 was so wasteful for a man of his talents and was most to blame for the Red Devils not picking up a win.
Here is how Kealan Hughes rated a frustrating afternoon at Old Trafford.
    David De Gea – 6
Did not have a lot to do with Watford producing just two shots on target all game.

    Aaron Wan-Bissaka – 5
Recalled to the side and looked solid without doing much going forward, which is likely the reason he was dropped in the first place.
Watford began to exploit United’s right flank late on with Ismaila Sarr causing problems.
    Victor Lindelof – 7
Another accomplished display from the Swede in his natural position after playing right-back against Atletico Madrid.
    Raphael Varane – 7
Was comfortable although Watford did not offer much in attack for 80 minutes.
Dealt with a lively Emmanuel Dennis who has 14 goal contributions this season.
    Alex Telles – 6
Got forward well playing one pinpoint cross Ronaldo tapped in only to be ruled offside.
    Fred – 5
Was not as effective as he was in Madrid in mid-week with United bossing possession.
Was rightly hooked on the hour with United in search of a goal.
Anthony Elanga impressed with his direct running and passing abilityCredit: Reuters
Paul Pogba missed chances but looked threatening in a more attacking roleCredit: AFP
    Nemanja Matic – 6
The midfielder does not start many games but he gave United control throughout and was effective with his passing and dribbling.
It was not a coincidence that Watford began to threaten more once he went off and Rangnick will likely regret taking him off.
    Anthony Elanga – 8
The Watford defence could not handle his speed and direct running on the ball – was unlucky to not be awarded a penalty when Craig Cathcart collided with him in the box.
He was dangerous across the attack as he was given the freedom to roam and he created chances too with intricate passes.
But he was guilty of arguably the worst miss of the match after being played in by Pogba, blasting wide when there was plenty of space to Ben Foster’s right.
    Paul Pogba – 7
Played in a more advanced role and it suited him well with one beautiful flick creating a great chance for Elanga.
He also could have scored but blasted wide when he found space in the box and also failed to connect with a header which could have been goalbound if he did.
    Bruno Fernandes – 6
Looked dangerous again for a second successive home game but once again missed easy chances.
He volleyed miles wide from close range before heading over after Foster had lost his bearings in the Watford goal.
    Cristiano Ronaldo – 4
Missed a big chance early on when he hit the post from close range after being played in by Elanga.
Later had a goal ruled out for offside in the first half but he strayed needlessly beyond the last defender and a man of his experience and ability should know better.
His poor finishing continued in the second half as he shot straight at a Watford defender with the goal gaping.
    Subs
    Jadon Sancho (for Fred, 62′) – 5
Failed to make the desire impact with United arguably looking more threatening with Fred in the team.
One long-range curling effort that went over the bar.
    Luke Shaw (for Telles, 74′) – 5
A fairly anonymous display though he was not given a lot of time to make a difference from left-back.
    Marcus Rashford (for Matic, 74′) – 4
Like Sancho, he did not impact the match with Watford finishing the last ten minutes stronger than United. More
