Man Utd should go all out for Thomas Tuchel after Chelsea are plunged into crisis, says Jamie Carragher

JAMIE CARRAGHER says Manchester United should take advantage of Chelsea’s off-pitch turmoil and pounce on manager Thomas Tuchel.Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich was sanctioned by the UK Government on Thursday, freezing his assets.

As a result, Chelsea are unable to sell home or away match tickets, buy, sell or extend players’ contracts and cannot sell merchandise – forcing the club shop to shut.
The Blues can, however, sell food and drink on matchdays.
Sponsors are also considering their commercial ties to Chelsea, which could see the club lose tens of millions in sponsorship.
And ex-Liverpool defender Carragher believes Man Utd should capitalise on Chelsea’s off-pitch issues by pinching their Champions League-winning manager, Tuchel.

The Red Devils are trailing behind Arsenal in the race for Champions League football and are yet to announce their next permanent manager.
Interim boss Ralf Rangnick has struggled to make a big impact, but is expected to take up an advisory role in the summer when a new manager is brought in.
Writing on the Telegraph, Carragher said: “United can offer him the security and backing every top coach craves.
“Yes, it will seem a predatory move – taking advantage of Chelsea’s crisis – but from United and Tuchel’s perspective the more you consider it, the more of a no-brainer it is.

“Every chief executive in the world looking for a new coach will be – or at least should be – monitoring Tuchel’s mood and public comments between now and the end of the season.
“Only clubs of a certain calibre could attract him. It would be negligent of United to fail to sound him out.
“As a coach, he is exactly what they need.”
Mauricio Pochettino, who could be sacked by Paris Saint-Germain after his side capitulated in their Champions League second leg against Real Madrid, is also a managerial target for the Red Devils.
But with the Argentine struggling to get the best of out some of football’s biggest stars, Carragher would back Tuchel to do a better job at United.
On Poch’s failures since taking over from Tuchel at PSG, Carragher said: “Whoever takes over at Old Trafford will have a clean slate, empowered to clear out the toxic influences at the training ground. They need a big personality to do that.
“With respect to Pochettino – who I have always rated very highly – Tuchel got more out of the PSG squad than his successor. In fairness to both, the PSG squad is unmanageable.
“Privately, I am sure both have been exhausted feeling they were managing egos more than footballers.

“That is not an excuse for the failure to lead the French side to Champions League success. It is, however, a mitigating factor as to why so many excellent coaches have fallen short in Paris.
“There will not be much sympathy for Pochettino. He should have led PSG much deeper in the competition given the talent and resources at his disposal.
“His difficulty is even the most basic tactical decisions can be like treading through a political minefield when the superstar players run the club.”

Pochettino getting axed now would be great for Man Utd – despite this shambles of a club not knowing what to do with him

MANCHESTER UNITED need to make a decision on who will be the new manager – NOW.And it would be a big help if Mauricio Pochettino was sacked by PSG – as seems increasingly likely – as soon as possible.

But the Red Devils won’t know what to do with Poch at the helmCredit: PA
For that scenario would at last help the Old Trafford hierarchy make up their minds one way or another on whether they do in fact want him as Ralf Rangnick’s successor.
Yet no matter who comes in next, and Erik ten Hag, Graham Potter, Carlo Ancelotti and Ralph Hasenhuttl have all been mentioned, a game plan has to be in place for the new man.
And right now there isn’t one.
It’s not news that the United squad has to be torn apart and re–built.

Sunday’s contemptuous derby win by Manchester City only shines more light on what has been blindingly obvious for far longer than this season
That 4-1 loss was just another chapter in the decline of a club that has been going to pot throughout the near – nine years since Sir Alex Ferguson retired.
A staggering £1.1BN has been spent trying to fix things.
So much of it has been wasted. United’s transfer business, the whole recruitment policy, has been scatter-gun and scatter-brained.

Such as the brilliant idea of bringing back Cristiano Ronaldo just when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looked like he might have something going at the start of the season.
The romance of that return has turned into bitterness, finger-pointing, and bitchiness.
And Solskjaer, almost certainly told that CR7 was being signed whether he liked it or not, lost his job because of it.

That Ronaldo will be gone for good at the end of the season is certain.
For no new manager would want to have to deal with such a drama queen raging – not only with the club but against the ravages of time.
Plenty more will follow; Paul Pogba, Edinson Cavani who has already taken his ball home, Jesse Lingard will all leave on free transfers.
Anthony Martial might come back from his loan spell with Sevilla, as will Donny van de Beek from Everton but both will go to the highest bidder.
Eric Bailly, Phil Jones, Axel Tuanzebe, Dean Henderson and maybe even Aaron Wan-Bissaka will also be candidates for the exit door if anybody will have them.
None of that is rocket science.
What does appears to be, however, is planning for the future – who to make the new manager, who he sees as transfer targets, how he wants United to play.
If all of that is not decided until he comes in then Rangnick’s successor will hit the wall.
The summer market is already hotting up.
Liverpool want Borussia Dortmund’s megastar midfielder of the future Jude Bellingham – and West Ham winger Jarrod Bowen.
Pep Guardiola has told City that he needs a proper striker so Tottenham and England captain Harry Kane will be the No 1 target as he was last year.

At Arsenal Mikel Arteta has made no secret of his desire to land Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
Bellingham’s goal machine teammate Erling Haaland is the ultimate prize and City, as well as Barcelona, who are in the running for him.
United, other than their continued interest in West Ham and England holding midfielder Declan Rice, are not being mentioned in terms of any of the rest.
Its not like they just need a couple of players to sort things out – or, indeed, patch things over has has been the case year after year since Fergie headed upstairs.
They need a striker, at least one centre-back, a holding midfielder, a hod carrier to do the dirty work to allow Bruno Fernandes to regain centre stage from Ronaldo – and a right-back who can create – along with another goalkeeper.
    That’s just for starters.
But the chances are that by the time the new manager moves in, all the big moves for all the big players who might be available this summer will have been made. Plans will be in place, in fact.
To change that all it would take once a decision on a new manager is made, would be for the likes of football director John Murtough or Rangnick who will take up an advisory role, to have a quiet word.
Find out who would be on the next manager’s wish list and get things moving.
For right now the United squad is not fit for purpose and that is not Ronaldo’s fault.
He simply became the catalyst for an implosion that was already on the cards and now the club’s involvement in next season’s Champions League is looking like a busted flush.
It will take two years and maybe another £500million to make United proper challengers for the Prem title again – a shocking indictment of how bad planning and mis-management have cost the club so much of its pride and standing as a force in football.
But it has to be done and so the powers that be have to give Rangnick’s successor a running start.

That means getting off the fence, making a choice on who takes over then barging through the transfer window.
And that means now or the new manager will only be picking up from where Rangnick leaves off – and that is nowhere. More

‘Eager to get back on the pitch’ – Ronaldo sends message to Rangnick after Man Utd crisis talks following derby axe

CRISTIANO RONALDO piled the pressure on Ralf Rangnick to pick him for Manchester United’s clash with Spurs.Ronaldo, 37, is still fuming at his Manchester derby axe last Sunday, despite his agent Jorge Mendes trying to act as peacemaker in crunch talks over his United future.

The superstar trained on his own at Carrington, as he recovers from a ‘hip flexor injury’, but posted a snap of himself with a pointed message towards Rangnick ahead of Saturday’s top-four showdown.
He wrote on Instagram: “Hard work towards a strong recovery. Eager to get back on the pitch and help the team.”
SunSport understands Mendes tried to calm Ronaldo down but is fighting a losing battle with the forward intent on leaving this summer.
Ronaldo is still furious that Rangnick told him he would be deployed as a sub at the Etihad.
He subsequently complained of a hip problem and was left out of the squad.

Ronaldo then flew off to Portugal, rather than join team-mates at the team hotel on Saturday night.
Boss Rangnick was not aware of his trip and it was not officially sanctioned by United — although the club had no issue as Ronaldo was injured and there was no training on Monday.
But there is now an uneasy tension around Carrington, with the players aware of Ron’s mood.
He has allies in some of the senior players but Rangnick is desperately trying to unite the camp.
Saturday’s visit of Tottenham is crucial in the race for that final Champions League spot.
Rangnick wanted to employ midfielders Bruno Fernandes and Paul Pogba as false No 9s against City.
He told Ronaldo he wanted fresh legs on the pitch and that he could make an impact off the bench. But the furious Portuguese insisted that he could make an impact from the start.
Old Trafford bigwigs have already been told by Ronaldo’s advisors that he will be definitely looking to leave if the club are unable to secure a top-four spot.

The former England international, who grew up in Peckham, South London, runs his Rio Ferdinand Foundation charity which supports people aged between 10 and 25 in disadvantaged communities.
And sharing a picture of him on stage in his academic cap and graduation gown collecting his doctorate last week, he posted an emotional message.
The ex-defender wrote on Instagram: “I’m incredibly proud to be presented with a Honourary Doctor of Letters by LSBU.
“Growing up in my community, I never thought anything like this would be possible… we were made to feel there was a ceiling or to stay in your box.

‘It was instinct’ – On-loan Man Utd star Brandon Williams opens up on hugging Christian Eriksen after going viral

NORWICH left-back Brandon Williams has shed light on his heartwarming embrace with Brentford star Christian Eriksen. The on-loan Manchester United man revealed he thought Eriksen ‘needed a hug’.

The pair faced off at the weekend in Brentford’s trip to Carrow Road, the first competitive game Eriksen had started since his cardiac arrest at Euro 2020.
And they were pictured hilariously embracing after Williams had initially reacted angrily to being bundled over by Eriksen.
Speaking about the encounter, Williams told Sky Sports: “Obviously, it was just a moment that happened, it was just instincts.
“I got past him and I felt him pull me down, so we was on the attack and I was really angry.”
Williams went on to say he planned for a confrontation, but held back after realising what Eriksen has ‘been through’ in the last nine months.
He continued: “I was going to…hold him but I know what he’s been through, and it’s incredible what he’s done, and he’s back now.

“It was something special for him to be on the pitch for himself, and to be involved in that, I felt like he needed a hug.
“It’s something that no player wants to go through, it was amazing that he’s back and he’s a top quality player and I’m sure he’ll be back to his best very soon.”
Eriksen did show glimpses of his best after playing a massive hand in Brentford’s opening goal in the crunch relegation six-pointer.
His corner was flicked on at the front post by Kristoffer Ajer, before Ivan Toney slammed home at the back post to give the Bees the lead.
Toney then added two penalties for the West Londoners, while the Canaries scored a late consolation through Teemu Pukki.

Ralph Hasenhuttl pleased with Man Utd manager links having worked with Ralf Rangnick at RB Leipzig

SOUTHAMPTON manager Ralph Hassenhuttl has responded to reports linking him to the Manchester United job. With Ralf Rangnick set to move into a consultancy position in the summer Hasenhuttl is the latest name to emerge as a contender for the role.

The pair previously worked together at German side RB Leipzig and with Rangnick set to have a say on who lands the job, reports have emerged that Hasenhuttl has been added to Man Utd’s shortlist.
And The Mirror claim director of football John Murtough and technical director Darren Fletcher are also fans of the 54-year-old Saints boss.
Hasenhuttl though has been quick to play down the links when quizzed on the rumours linking him to Manchester United.
Although he couldn’t help but voice his pleasure on being touted for the Old Trafford hot seat.
Hasenhuttl said: “When I discuss every list I have been on in the last two months, I would not have time any more for working or doing my job.
“The only thing I can say is it shows that we don’t do everything wrong here.”

An excellent season at St Mary’s has seen Hasenhuttl guide the club to ninth in the Premier League table.
Notable results this season include holding both Manchester United and Manchester City to 1-1 draws.
Although PSG boss Mauricio Pochettino and Ajax head coach Erik ten Haag remain the front runners to be next United manager.
It’s claimed both contenders have been contacted by Red Devils’ chiefs.
Pochettino is thought to be the players’ top choice, while Ten Hag has impressed with his bold attacking tactics at Ajax.
And United are now said to be in dialogue with representatives for both men.

Fuming Cristiano Ronaldo is increasingly intent on quitting Man Utd this summer after holding showdown talks with agent

CRISTIANO RONALDO has held crunch talks with agent Jorge Mendes over his future at Manchester United.Mendes has tried to calm the player down after he was axed from the Red Devils side to face Manchester City in the derby at the weekend.

But he is understood to be fighting a losing battle with the player increasingly intent on leaving the club this summer, less than a year after his emotional return to Old Trafford.
The player is still furious after being told by Ralf Rangnick that he would be deployed as a super-sub at the Etihad.
Ronaldo subsequently complained of a hip problem and was left out the squad.
He flew off to Portugal rather than join his team-mates at the city centre Lowry Hotel on Saturday night as they prepared for their Sunday afternoon showdown with City.
The 37-year-old veteran did return to the club’s Carrington training ground yesterday and was last of the players to leave.
He was there again today but didn’t take part in full training.
There is now an uneasy tension around Carrington with the players aware of Ronaldo’s mood.

He has allies in some of the senior players but Rangnick is desperately trying to unite the whole camp.
Saturday’s visit of Tottenham is crucial in the race for fourth place and that final Champions League spot.
Rangnick wanted to employ a tactical plan without a recognised striker for the match against City.
He told Ronaldo he wanted fresh legs on the pitch and that he could make an impact off the bench.
But the furious Portuguese superstar insisted that he could make an impact from the start.
Having played five games in 15 days he had a midweek free from games and was feeling fresh for the trip across town to the club he rejected at the last minute to sign for United.
    RETURN UNRAVELLING
Ronaldo signed a two-year deal when he returned to the club at the start of the season.
While he had a good start and has racked up 15 goals, only one of them has come in his last ten appearances.
He has grown frustrated with a club that is unrecognisable to the one he left in 2009 to move to Real Madrid.
The United hierarchy have already been told by his advisors that he will be definitely looking to leave if the club are unable to secure a top-four spot.
That is looking increasingly unlikely after their 4-1 drubbing at the hands of City left them fifth.
They are a point behind Arsenal who currently hold that last Champions League spot and have three games in hand over United.
Saturday’s opponents Tottenham, fresh from a 4-0 win at Leeds and 5-0 thumping of Everton, are also in the frame with West Ham.
