Neville’s sacking came just days before it emerged that Lionel Messi will be moving to the States to play for Inter Miami.
The 35-year-old’s summer switch will instantly make the post a much more attractive one, despite Inter Miami’s lowly position in the table.
Becks’ side sit bottom of MLS’ Eastern Conference, having lost 11 of their 16 matches so far this season.
Their awful start followed last season’s first round play-off exit at the hands of New York City FC.

While Brendan Rodgers’ name has also been mentioned – with the ex-Anfield duo both starting at 8/1.
Among the early bookies’ contenders as an outside 66/1 shot was none other than Phil Neville’s older brother, Gary.

Neville won just 10 of his 28 matches in charge, while he oversaw a 7-0 thumping at the hands of Messi’s Barcelona.
The Manchester United legend has previously ruled out ever returning to the dugout after his harrowing experience.
But should he get the call from his pal Beckham, the possibility of managing Messi might be too tempting to turn down.
Neville and Beckham are both stakeholders in Salford City, as well as Gary’s brother Phil.
Also in the frame are American duo Steve Cherundolo and Jim Curtin, with the pair having been mentioned at 10/1.

Barcelona have already expressed an interest in signing him, but the club’s current financial state could prove to be a stumbling block.
The La Liga giants would have to sell several first-team players in order to fund the transfer, otherwise the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner – who is said to be eager to return to his former club – will be forced to look elsewhere.

And according to The Athletic, David Beckham’s Inter Miami is another potential destination.
The Florida-based side are currently working with Major League Soccer to solidify details surrounding the potential signing of Messi.

An anonymous source claims MLS executives have already been informed that the Argentina captain will choose either Barcelona or Inter Miami as his next club – he does not want to join Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema in Saudi Arabia.
Adidas, Apple and MLS are all hoping to entice Messi to the United States this summer.
Adidas – one of the league’s largest corporate sponsors – have reportedly proposed a profit-sharing agreement, meaning the forward would receive a cut of any increase in profits resulting from his MLS involvement.
MLS and Apple have also discussed offering Messi a share of the revenue generated by new subscribers to the MLS Season Pass, the league’s streaming package on Apple TV+.

In addition to these commercial proposals, MLS chiefs are understood to be willing to offer Messi the option to purchase a percentage of a team in the league upon his retirement.
However, the forward is keen on the prospect of a fairytale return to Barcelona.
Messi’s father and agent, Jorge, held talks with Barcelona president Joan Laporta on Monday morning to discuss the possibility of a free transfer.
After the meeting, the 65-year-old admitted that his son is eager to return to the Nou Camp.
He said: “Messi wants to return to Barca and I would love for him to come back. It is an option.”
Messi joined Barcelona’s world renowned La Maisa academy at the age of 13 in 2000.
After progressing through the ranks, he signed his first professional contract five years later and became a regular name in the first team.
He went on to make 778 appearances for the La Liga giants, scoring 672 goals and assisting 303 in the process.
The Argentina international was forced to leave Barcelona in 2021 due to the club’s financial state, so he joined PSG in a £25million transfer. More

Neville was close with the owners, but it proved insufficient as former club team-mate David Beckham pulled the trigger.
However, Neville is still thankful to Beckham and the other owners of the club for giving him the opportunity to manage the MLS side.
He wrote on Instagram: “Thank You.

“I am immensely proud of the work that we all have done creating a culture of hard work and spirit.

“I will always have Inter Miami CF in my heart.”
Miami announced the former England International’s departure midway through his third season in charge with a blunt social media message on Thursday night.
Supporters held up signs calling for Neville’s sacking following the dire midweek defeat – and even booed his son Harvey.
The ex-Lionesses’ chief, 46, was unveiled by Miami owner Becks in January 2021.
But although they reached the MLS Cup play-offs last season, Nev’s men have struggled from the start this campaign.

Man Utd legend’s son is brutally booed by own fans as he enters pitch as emotional dad blasts ‘don’t go for my boy’

PHIL NEVILLE’S son was brutally booed by Inter Miami fans which led to his emotional father blasting: “Don’t go for my boy.”Fed-up supporters of the David Beckham owned MLS club held up signs calling for Manchester United legend Neville to be sacked after their 1-0 defeat at home to New York Red Bulls on Wednesday.

Tom Barlow sealed the points for Red Bulls, who finished the match with only ten men after Cameron Harper was sent-off late on.
That result left Neville’s Inter Miami bottom of the Eastern Conference with just 15 points and two wins from their last 13 matches.

Their misery was further compounded when Leonardo Campagna missed a late penalty to earn a draw.
After Red Bulls broke the deadlock in the 52nd minute, one group of fans in the DRV PNK Stadium unfurled a banner that read: “Neville Out!”

And when boss Neville introduced his son Harvey, 20, for the final 10 minutes a chorus of jeers rang out from the sparse crowd in attendance.
The right-back was then booed each time he touched the ball – leading to a fierce response from his dad afterwards.
Ex-England and Everton ace Neville, 46, said: “In moments of real adversity, you learn a lot about yourself and the players you have, and I was incredibly proud of the young boy they were booing.
“It showed great courage. It hurt. It hurt. But I understand, and I think he understands. Do I agree with it? Probably not. But I’m his coach and I believe in young players.”

Neville then directly pleaded with supporters to vent their anger straight to him rather than his boy or any other player.
He said: “Hit me guys, I can handle that. I can take that. I’ve had it all my career.
“We have the best fans. I understand their frustration, the banners and all that because it comes with the territory being a professional football manager.
“I would say to the supporters, ‘Just come for me.’ Support the team and the young boys…Don’t knock one of our own. Just come for me.
“If you’re unhappy, hit the manager. Don’t go for one of my young kids. That hurts and that’s personal.”
Defender DeAndre Yedlin echoed those sentiments by saying: “We understand the fans’ frustration, we’re frustrated, as well and have not been nearly good enough.
“As far as booing Harvey, he’s one of us. If you’re going to boo Harvey, then boo all of us.
“He’s done the steps he needed to do to get playing time and get on the field. He works hard every day in training like everyone else.
“He’s not here just because his father’s the coach. He’s a great young player. I don’t think it’s right to go after one player, especially a young player.”
Now Beckham and his fellow co-owners Jorge and Jose Mas could have a difficult decision to make on the future of Neville.
Inter Miami appeared to have transformed their dire form in May with two straight league wins but have since nosedived again.

O’Brien, 24, currently on loan at Wayne Rooney’s DC United in the MLS, is likely to be surplus to requirements again when he returns to Forest in July.
They would consider a loan or permanent deal — with the only snag being whether to deal with a direct rival.
Blades manager Paul Heckingbottom has a reduced transfer budget despite promotion back to the top flight.
Saudi owner Prince Abdullah is trying to bolster his kitty by getting additional financial backing from allies in the Middle East.

O’Brien signed for Nottingham Forest in a £10million transfer from Huddersfield last summer.
The midfielder made 15 appearances during his first five months at the City Ground before falling out of favour with Steve Cooper.
He joined MLS side DC United on a four-month loan in March and has since registered one goal and one assist in 10 games.
O’Brien was quick to praise Rooney upon his arrival in Washington.

He told DC United’s official website: “It’s massive, if you look back at my career I’ve played against him a few times as well.
“We’ve had a few jokes about it. I know people that he’s managed previously back at Derby and stuff and it’s a perfect opportunity for me.
“He played in a similar position that I play in and I think he’s going to make everyone he coaches a much better footballer.”
Three MLS clubs – not including DC United – have expressed an interest in signing O’Brien in recent months.
New York City, Columbus Crew and Atlanta United were keen on the prospect of signing him earlier this year. More
