Man Utd blow with rivals Liverpool ‘leading transfer race for Jude Bellingham with saga expected to drag on all year’

MANCHESTER UNITED have suffered a blow in their pursuit of Jude Bellingham after reports indicated Liverpool are leading the race for him. Bellingham, 19, is one of the most sought-after assets in all of football currently and Liverpool and United are set to step up their interest with formal bids next summer.

Previous reports have indicated Borussia Dortmund have set an £87million price tag on his head, a fee both United and Liverpool could afford.
However, The Reds appear to have taken the early advantage and are leading the race to sign him, according to The Telegraph.
But luckily for United, they report the transfer saga surrounding Bellingham is set to ‘drag on’ until at least next summer.
The former Birmingham City star proved his excellence once again by putting in a strong display against Manchester City, scoring a goal to put his side in the lead.

However, Erling Haaland came back to haunt his old club as he scored a late goal to add to John Stones’ earlier wondergoal to secure a 2-1 victory for Pep Guardiola’s side.
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has made his fandom of the teenager no secret, declaring his “only problem” was his unavailability over the summer market.

Amid a deepening midfield crisis, Liverpool brought in Juventus midfielder Arthur on a season-long loan as a temporary fix.
However, Reds fans are demanding the squad’s midfield department is overhauled and freshened in order to compete with the likes of Manchester City.

The current set-up has seen the likes of James Milner and Harvey Elliot utilised more than would be desirable to Klopp in big games.
They came unstuck in a test against a then winless Man Utd and were then demolished by Napoli 4-1 in their Champions League opening game.
Bellingham would help provide the fresh injection Klopp’s team needs.
However, the midfielder’s qualities are deemed desirable by many top clubs, namely Man Utd, Man City and Chelsea. More

United and Liverpool had been tracking the youngster for some time and they were keen to take advantage of his £42million release clause.
But both clubs have missed that chance after Gavi put pen to paper on a four-year deal.
The new contract also increases Gavi’s buyout clause to €1billion (£864m) – the joint-highest in world football.
Chelsea also had an eye on the Spaniard when Roman Abramovich was still in charge – as the former owner was a big fan of Gavi.

Manchester City also wanted Gavi earlier in the summer but will likely end their interest given his new release clause.
Barcelona have been keen to give their stars eye-watering buyout clauses after losing Neymar to Paris Saint-Germain after the French side activated his £200m clause in 2017.
In fact, four Barca players now have a release clause of €1bn, matched only by Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema.
Gavi is very highly rated by club and country with Xavi describing him as a “transcendent” player.

Liverpool preparing bid for Brazilian wonderkid Joao Gomes from Flamengo as Jurgen Klopp targets midfielder

LIVERPOOL are preparing a bid for Brazilian wonderkid Joao Gomes to help refresh the club’s midfield, according to reports. Jurgen Klopp has told the Liverpool hierarchy he wants a new midfielder amid fierce criticism of the current dynamic Liverpool have at their disposal.

This had led the clubs scouts to search for a new midfielder to freshen up things.
Consequently, they have landed on 21-year-old Flamengo prodigy Gomes.
But despite the long distance and time difference between the UK and Brazil, it has not stopped Klopp from watching his games.
Journalist Julio Miguel Neto has reported Klopp is keen on the midfielder, with The Reds manager said to have watched him for “a long time.”

Gomes has already become a key figure in Flamengo’s side, having appeared 104 times since breaking into the side in early 2020.
Versatility is a big part of the youngster’s game as well, having appeared at defensive midfield, central midfield and at right wing for Flamengo.
However, his lack of goals or assists will be of some concern for Klopp if he plans to utilise him as a more advanced midfielder.
More realistically though, Gomes could prove to be the long-term replacement for Fabinho, who himself is also Brazilian.

Neto has suggested Liverpool are ready to make a bid as soon as January, and if successful they would usurp interest from Manchester United and Atletico Madrid.

Now he will not return until after the forthcoming international window.
That means he will miss Tuesday’s Champions League home game with Ajax at Anfield.
And it also rules him out of Sunday’s trip to Chelsea in the Premier League – if the match goes ahead amid policing issues regarding the Queen’s funeral.
Robertson will also miss Scotland’s upcoming Nations League games later this month.

Robertson joins Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Naby Keita, Jordan Henderson, Ibrahima Konate, Curtis Jones and Caoimhin Kelleher on the sidelines.
But Fabio Carvalho could return against Ajax after he sustained a dead leg in the Merseyside derby draw with Everton on September 3.

And now they could face competition from Liverpool for Luiz’s signature in future transfer windows.

But no official move was made for the Brazil star, who has less than 12 months on his contract.

Both West Ham and Leicester City are also interested in the 24-year-old.
Sangare ended speculation over a summer exit from the Eredivisie club by signing a new contract until 2027.
However, Calciomercato now claims that Liverpool are tracking him closely as Jurgen Klopp looks to bolster his midfield.
But they also state that the Reds will face a battle with West Ham and Italian champions AC Milan for his signature.

After penning his extension at PSV, Sangare revealed his happiness at staying as he outlined his ambition to play at the top level with the Dutch team.
He said: “I have felt at home since the first day, the way I am received and how people treat me makes me very happy.

And that could help Liverpool in their quest to land him.
Klopp missed out on his top summer target Aurelien Tchouameni to Real Madrid and then opted to wait a year to go for another midfielder.
Then his squad suffered a number of injuries which led to him making a late move for Arthur Melo on loan from Juventus.
However, that is only seen as a temporary measure as Klopp continues to plan long-term.
Borussia Dortmund’s Jude Bellingham has been Liverpool’s prime target and they are expected to make an attempt to sign the England international at the end of the season. More

Frustrated Jurgen Klopp vows to ‘reinvent’ Liverpool after Napoli nightmare and fears rivals will be ‘laughing’ at them

FRUSTRATED Jurgen Klopp has vowed to “reinvent” his Liverpool squad after they were embarrassed by Napoli in their Champions League opener. The Reds were on the receiving end of their joint-biggest defeat in the competition, losing to the Italian side 4-1, and found themselves trailing by three goals at half-time.

It took going behind by four goals for Liverpool to show some intent – with Luis Diaz getting a goal back.
But Liverpool’s defensive disaster-class has left Klopp fearing rivals are licking their lips and “laughing” at his team.
Klopp has also hinted at going back to the drawing board tactically, with the team swamped by Premier League and Champions League fixtures.
Klopp told BT Sport: “So, now we have to… little bit looks like we have to reinvent ourselves.

“So there’s a lot of things lacking – not in all games but now.
“The fun part is we have to do that in the middle of a Premier League season and a Champions League campaign.
“In three days we play against Wolves.
“If they saw the game tonight they cannot stop laughing, probably, and think ‘oh my God, that’s the perfect moment’.

“I would say it’s the perfect moment.
“But we have to try to find a set-up to be much better in pretty much everything. In three days time, let’s try.”
Klopp cut a frustrated figure in his post-match interview, insisting the result was “tough to take”.
But he has asked for more time to find the cause of the gutless defeat in Naples – time which wasn’t afforded to compatriot Thomas Tuchel at Chelsea.
Ex-Chelsea boss Tuchel’s team, like Liverpool have started poorly in the league, and on Tuesday lost their group stage Champions League opener – at the hands of Croatian champions Dinamo Zagreb.
Tuchel was sacked on Wednesday – with Graham Potter the frontrunner to take over the reins at Stamford Bridge – despite splashing upwards of £250million on players this summer.
    TOUGH COOKIE
Klopp said on the defeat: “Yeah, really tough to take. I would say it is not that difficult to explain when you saw the game.
“For start with the two penalties… First and foremost, Napoli played a really good game and we didn’t – that is the first explanation for the defeat.
“The two penalties we conceded. For sure one, both were a little bit unlucky. Only one goes in.
“And then the next two goals we served on a plate, pretty much, that’s not cool and we should defend it better in the first place, but then of course in the last moment as well.
“And yeah, 3-0 down having kind of chances – never really in the game.
“We were not compact neither defensively or offensively.
“Until Thiago entered the pitch I cannot remember one counter pressing situation.
“The reason for that is because we are just too wide, we try to sort the situation out ourselves with a little dribbling here or there. Cannot really play together, [we] are not connected.

“So it was obvious. Why it happened? That’s now the question I cannot answer now – give me a little time to think about it.
“It’s a really tough cookie to take but obviously I have to take it.” More

Furious Jurgen Klopp explodes in anger when asked if Naples is dangerous city with Liverpool fans stabbed in past visits

JURGEN KLOPP exploded in anger when asked whether Napoli is a dangerous place.English fans who have been chased down streets, attacked in bars and stabbed up the backside probably know the answer.

On Tuesday afternoon, Liverpool used their social media channels to warn Reds fans to stay in their hotels until the game and avoid going out after being attacked in all of their three visits in 2010, 2018 and 2019.
Yet, it is on the pitch at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium that has proved to be a really nasty place for Klopp.
He was sent off here after just 30 minutes as Borussia Dortmund manager in a 2-1 loss in September 2013 and later apologised for his outburst.
And then in both his matches for Liverpool in the Champions League in 2018 and the season after, his team was beaten by Carlo Ancelotti-led teams.
    READ MORE IN FOOTBALL
Asked, rather aggressively by the journalist about the off-field threats in Naples, Klopp said: “That’s an embarrassing question from you. You want to create headlines? I really don’t understand it.
“Are you from Napoli? Do you think it’s a dangerous city? I don’t know. I don’t live a normal life in Napoli.
“I am protected here, go to the hotel and now you ask me what I think about Napoli. You know exactly what people are talking about. If some supporters meet some supporters, something can happen.
“Nothing to do with the city, so I don’t know. But I am not here to create headlines for you.”

About four hours earlier, Liverpool warned: “Supporters arriving in Naples prior to matchday should remain in their respective hotel to drink and eat. You are strongly advised not to wear team colours when travelling.
“Fans should not congregate in public areas and should avoid becoming isolated in areas away from the port area of the city. We strongly recommend you avoid the city centre.
“If you chose to visit, please beware that you may be targeted for theft, robbery, or assault. As per the Italian authorities, you’re advised to always carry your valid photo ID.”
It is a shame travelling fans struggle here as Napoli is genuinely a fascinating, bustling place — but it is best to go when there is not a European football match.
Hopefully all the fans arrive safely and then Liverpool can do what they are here to do, win a football match.
But that is something that has not been done by Klopp in Naples.
He said: “I have never won here. Not with Liverpool. Not with Dortmund. I am a late bloomer.
“I need a little bit longer to achieve and it means I have to try two times, sometimes three times, sometimes four times so now Napoli, this is the fourth time.
“What do we have to do? Play better than in the previous three games. We lost because we did not play particularly well when we came here. Another reason Napoli are pretty strong.”
The last time Liverpool played in this competition was June where their hopes of ending the season in style ended with a 1-0 loss to Real Madrid in the final.
Keeper Alisson said: “The day after it was really difficult because you are frustrated about the result and that you didn’t get your trophy, the main goal.
“But in the end, we are footballers, we are professional players. We have to deal with those kind of things.”
Alisson was asked whether that Paris loss will give them an extra incentive.
When they won in 2019, the players said losing 12 months earlier to Real in Kiev had given them some extra fire.
The Brazilian said: “We can try to use that as an extra motivation, but in my opinion we don’t need that.
“Being here, playing in the Champions League against a big club like Napoli in a really difficult group stage is motivation enough for us.
“We are going to fight to go through the group stage and think step by step.”
Meanwhile, Klopp hinted that new loan arrival from Juventus, Arthur Melo, could appear as a sub tonight.
Klopp said: “Arthur needs now just football, training especially, that’s how it is.
“He wasn’t in team training for a while at Juve so he needs proper team training and that’s what we are doing with him.
“Can he play minutes? Yes. Should he play a full game? No, because he needs to get used to the intensity in each competition.”
