He had originally been linked with a move to Leeds before Man Utd and Chelsea expressed an interest, but the winger recently admitted that the prospect of a move to Liverpool excited him the most.
He told The Daily Mail: “I nearly went to Leeds in the summer but Louis van Gaal advised me that a change of team before the World Cup might be difficult so I decided not to go.
“To be honest, the speculation affected me a little bit because it was the first time it had happened to me.
“I just had to think ‘forget about it, play your best and see what happens later on’.

“Then when I heard about interest from Liverpool in the winter, I didn’t think about anything else. There was also Chelsea maybe but I already had my mind made up.
“This is a good place for me to improve and develop and eventually show who I can be.”
PSV manager – and former Man Utd star – Ruud van Nistelrooy has since slammed Gakpo for ignoring his transfer advice.
But the young star has since insisted that he is happy in Liverpool.

Klopp, 55, extended his deal with the Merseyside outfit in April last year as he agreed to remain in charge until 2026.
But Liverpool have dropped off significantly this season following a dreadful run of form.
The Reds sit 10th in the Premier League table as the pressure continues to ramp up on Klopp.
And while his seven-year stint at the club leaves him with a huge amount of credit in the bank, he could still be approaching the end of his Anfield reign.

According to El Nacional, Klopp leaving Liverpool would see Real Madrid swoop in for the former Borussia Dortmund coach.
Los Blancos boss Carlo Ancelotti has a contract to keep him in the Spanish capital until the end of the 2023/24 season.
But with Real trailing Barcelona by eight points in LaLiga, a campaign without major silverware – excluding the Club World Cup – would likely see Ancelotti depart.
And president Florentino Perez has always been an admirer of Klopp – who has worked wonders at Mainz, Dortmund and Liverpool.

It is being reported they would attempt to sign both Bellingham and Kylian Mbappe in a bid to drag Klopp to the Bernabeu.
Bellingham, 19, valued at more than £100million, has been heavily linked with a move to one of Europe’s giants.
Real Madrid, Liverpool, Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea are all thought to be interested in the England international.
He is expected to leave Dortmund this summer after three years at the club – where he has contributed 20 goals and 24 assists in 117 games.
And Klopp is a big fan of the teenage midfielder – who increased his price tag after a sensational World Cup.
Mbappe, 24, is another player Klopp is reportedly interested in.
The French superstar’s PSG future has been called into question after the Ligue 1 champions reportedly agreed to let him go in October.
He only signed a new deal last summer to keep him in Paris until 2025, but could still leave at the end of the season if Real stump up the cash. More

Fowler, 47, insists that the label “held him back” in his career and that he has tried to get rid of it.
He told The Telegraph: “The Spice Boy thing was a nickname and the fact that we never won anything played a big part in it.

“What I am now is I am probably quite boring.
“I understood what a dressing room needed years ago but people still have that idea of me as laughing and joking and not to be taken seriously.”

In total, the striker scored 183 goals for the Reds in all competitions.
His ability on the pitch often led people to praise him as “naturally gifted”.
However, this is a description that he does not agree with.
He added: “What was I like as a player? I worked harder than anyone else.
“I hate using this, because it sounds egotistical, but I was always deemed as one of the most ‘naturally gifted’ strikers.
“Quite frankly, it annoys me because of the hours and hours of practice I put in, the monotony of doing the repetition to make it look natural.
    “It’s like second nature.
“If you are doing something all the time it makes it looks natural but it was only because I did hours and hours of practice.
“That’s my perception… I wore my heart on my sleeve, I wanted to be better than anyone else and there were times when I got carried away on a football pitch.”

An own-goal by Joel Matip handed the home side an early lead.
January transfer Craig Dawson then doubled Wolves lead, powering a shot home on his debut.
And Ruben Neves then wrapped the game up in the second half, finishing well past Alisson to help move Wolves a few points away from the relegation zone.
Liverpool are in a rough patch, with Klopp’s men are sat 10th in the Premier League after 20 games played, collecting just 29 points.

The Reds are yet to win a league game in 2023, losing three and drawing one.
The last win came against Leicester on December 28.
But despite Liverpool’s woes, Klopp is confident he can turn the Reds’ fortunes around.
When asked after the defeat if he has confidence in his own ability to improve Liverpool’s situation, Klopp replied: “Yeah, yeah, yeah. Absolutely.”

Asked on HOW he turns Liverpool’s season around, Klopp said: “Not in press conferences. That doesn’t help, obviously.
“You know my job, I know my job, my job is not to explain here how I can build up my team.
“I will be judged by that from you and that’s fine.
“Let me say it like this, for today, it was not good enough, what I did.”
The German has also said that the loss to Wolves was one of the worst performances he has seen “for a while”.
Klopp said: “We had that subject [starting games slowly] through the first part of the season and now not so much anymore, but today it was, if you want, the pinnacle of our problems because in a game like this it is absolutely not allowed.
“You can criticise, you can judge us, you can say whatever want and you are probably right – I have nothing to say against that because these 12 minutes are not allowed.
“Coming here with all the things we did in the last few days – and during the whole season so far – with what we want, then you arrive here and this is the outcome, that’s really hard to take, I have to say.

“We had other games with conceding early goals, we had that since the last season so it was now not that much anymore, but we didn’t win games so then it’s pretty likely when you lose games that you concede the first one.
“Again, these 12 minutes we were the worst for a while.” More

The Kop will not loan him next season — despite a queue already forming — so he may have to be sold.
Liverpool do not want to lose Kelleher as he is a home-grown player and a key part of their squad.
However, they would also be fair to him if he decides it is time to leave.
His contract does not expire on Merseyside until the summer of 2026.

If he departs it could mean the Reds need to find a British keeper, who is willing to be second string, as a replacement.
Kelleher has featured 20 times for the first-team since coming through the youth ranks at the club.
The Irishman is back-up to Alisson having dislodged Adrian as second choice.
