Five clubs Jordan Henderson could transfer to in January as England star tells team-mates Saudi move was huge mistake

JORDAN HENDERSON wants to seal a January transfer after telling former team-mates his move to Saudi Arabia has been a mistake. The former Liverpool captain, 33, left Anfield to join Steven Gerrard at Al-Ettifaq in the summer.

But it has not worked out as planned with Henderson yet to score and his side on a nightmare run of poor form.
Now SunSport understands he has had enough and is ready to head back to Europe.
Leaving before honouring two years of his £700,000-a-week contract would trigger a major tax bill worth around £3.5million.
However, it could see the midfielder bolster his chances of featuring at Euro 2024.

But where could Henderson go if he did make the shock early exit?
    RETURN TO LIVERPOOL
Henderson spent 12 years at Anfield, racking up 492 appearances for the Reds.
He inherited the captain’s armband from Gerrard and lifted the Premier League, FA Cup, League Cup, Community Shield, Champions League, Super Cup and Club World Cup.
Jurgen Klopp brought in Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, Wataru Endo and Ryan Gravenberch in a midfield overhaul – but some extra trophy-winning experience could be vital as Liverpool chase another league title this term.

Newcastle have the local bragging rights after winning the Tyne-Wear FA Cup clash – and they could have even more if ex-Sunderland boy Henderson joins them.
Newcastle are owned by the Saudi Public Investment Fund and the connections to the Saudi Pro League would ease negotiations – especially after Premier League clubs voted to allow transfers between clubs with the same owners.
Eddie Howe’s squad has been decimated by injuries and a holding midfielder is high on the wish list anyway, with Kalvin Phillips also a target.

    CHELSEA
Chelsea have splashed the cash – more than £1billion to be precise – since Todd Boehly took over at Stamford Bridge in 2022.
And yet despite the big-money arrivals of Enzo Fernandez, Moises Caicedo, Romeo Lavia and Lesley Ugochukwu, an experienced head in the middle of the park could be a sensible addition.
Henderson would certainly provide that and linking up with a host of Three Lions stars could help catch Gareth Southgate’s eye.

    CELTIC
Henderson was at Liverpool throughout Brendan Rodgers’ tenure as Kop boss from 2012 to 2015.
And the Northern Irishman may well be keen for a reunion to add a top-quality midfielder into his Celtic team.
The lower overall quality of the league compared to the Premier League would also work in Henderson’s favour because he turns 34 at the end of the season.

    MOVE TO GERMANY
SunSport understands an unnamed German club are also monitoring Henderson’s situation with particular interest.

With Bayer Leverkusen the surprise leaders and Bayern Munich, Stuttgart and RB Leipzig all chasing, the Bundesliga is wide open going into the second half of the season.
Henderson proved he is willing to move abroad when he went to Saudi and the chance to test himself in another of Europe’s top five leagues could be appealing.

Liverpool ace banned from FA Cup clash after picking up two yellow cards last JULY with Reds facing selection crisis

OWEN BECK will miss out on the chance to play for Liverpool in tomorrow’s FA Cup third-round tie at Arsenal because the left-back is suspended.Reds boss Jurgen Klopp recalled the 21-year-old Welshman from a season-long loan at Dundee because of an injury crisis to first-choice left-backs Andy Robertson and Kostas Tsimikas.

But Beck is unavailable for the Emirates clash as he is serving a one-match ban which relates to his time in Scotland.
Beck picked up yellow cards in the Scottish League Cup matches against Bonnyrigg Rose and Inverness Caledonian Thistle last July.
Dundee finished second in Group E and failed to qualify for the knockout phase of the competition.
The Football Association have confirmed that the full-back has an unserved one-match ban from Scotland which applies to his next first-team competitive game.

That means Beck will have to wait for his chance to feature for Klopp’s Liverpool this month.
Beck impressed at Dundee, playing 20 times and scoring twice while he also received a Wales senior call-up from Robert Page for the friendly against Gibraltar in October.
Klopp was asked about Beck’s recall on Friday and he said: “He made big steps. Now the situation here is clear – we lost two of our left-backs so it makes a sense to bring back a boy we like who is available to us.”
Versatile defender Joe Gomez has stepped into the left-back position for Liverpool in the meantime and is expected to start there against Arsenal tomorrow.

Meanwhile, Tsimikas has hinted at returning to the field earlier than expected.
The full-back is recovering from a broken collarbone after colliding with Jurgen Klopp during Liverpool’s Premier League clash with Arsenal.
Despite an initial time frame of two to three months being put on his injury, he posted an Instagram of him in training with the caption “Not long now!”.
Robertson meanwhile is likely to miss the rest of the month, with Klopp saying on the injury: “For sure, I think the full January he will be [out]. He has to get closer and closer.” More

Liverpool are ‘serious candidates’ to land Mbappe as Real Madrid may have shot themselves in foot with transfer approach

LIVERPOOL have emerged as “serious candidates” to sign Kylian Mbappe from Paris Saint-Germain in the summer. The 25-year-old has entered the final six months of his contract in the French capital.

Mbappe possesses a player option to extend his deal by a further 12 months, although last summer he wrote to club chiefs informing them that he had “no intention” of doing so.
The forward was subsequently exiled from PSG’s pre-season tour, with the Ligue 1 champions even accepting a world-record £259million bid from Al-Hilal for their star man.
After snubbing a move to Saudi Arabia, Mbappe later returned to PSG’s first team and has been in electric form ever since.
His future remains in the balance, with Liverpool and Real Madrid both showing “credible” interest in signing him.
    READ MORE IN FOOTBALL
According to Le Parisien, the Reds pose the biggest threat to PSG’s hopes of convincing Mbappe to stay.
Jurgen Klopp has long been a huge fan of the French superstar, with Liverpool having reportedly dreamed of signing him for nine years.
The Reds’ long-term admiration hasn’t gone unnoticed by Mbappe, who could be intrigued by a move to Anfield.
Kop chiefs would love to sign him in a bid to consistently compete with Manchester City.

And with Mohamed Salah attracting strong interest from Saudi Arabia, Mbappe could even be a long-term replacement for the Egyptian.
Real Madrid were long thought to be in the driving seat to sign Mbappe.
But latest reports suggest that he has been unimpressed by the Spanish side’s “hardball tactics” in negotiations.
Mbappe could yet still perform a U-turn from his stance last summer and decide to extend at PSG again.
It’s claimed that he would struggle to find conditions as “tailor-made” for him at other potential suitors as they are at Parc des Princes.
Mbappe has scored 18 goals in 16 Ligue 1 appearances so far this season.
He has also added a further three in the Champions League. More

Liverpool CANCEL forgotten wonderkid’s loan deal in Bundesliga and could ship him out to Premier League rivals

LIVERPOOL have CANCELLED Fabio Carvalho’s loan at RB Leipzig. The Portuguese ace left for Germany in the summer but he only managed 15 appearances with no goals and only THREE starts.

But Carvalho’s lack of game time has seen Liverpool cut short his initial one-year loan.
Now according to The Mirror, the winger is open to a return back to Fulham for the rest of the season.
It was in May 2022 that he left the West Londoners to sign for Liverpool, where he has three goals in his 21 games.
Anfield bosses want Carvalho to finish the rest of the season on loan to continue his development.

And it is claimed the player is open to a Fulham return himself.
But Craven Cottage boss Marco Silva was quick to distance himself from a move when recently asked.
Silva said: “It’s not for me to talk about it. Liverpool bought him, that’s for Jurgen and Liverpool to talk about.”

The Brazilian is believed to have grown frustrated in Saudi Arabia with Al-Ahli.
And according to talkSPORT, Sheffield United are keen to snap him up.

Raging Jurgen Klopp slams ‘insane’ refereeing after Liverpool denied TWO goals by VAR in Boxing Day win over Burnley

JURGEN KLOPP saw Liverpool go top of the Prem but raged at “insane” refereeing.Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota struck to down lowly Burnley at Turf Moor.
Klopp was puzzled by how one Liverpool goal was ruled outCredit: Rex
But the Anfield chief was furious after Harvey Elliott’s second-half goal was overturned by VAR Simon Hooper with offside Mo Salah deemed to have been in goalkeeper James Trafford’s eyeline.
Klopp, who claimed Salah was pushed into the offending position, fumed: “They will tell us again it’s an offside situation or whatever.
“It’s insane honestly. This man, if he never played football then it can happen.
“You think ‘offside rule, let me see, page seven, there’s somebody between him and the goalie’ — that’s ridiculous.

“We all need referees but we need them with the right interpretation of the rules. How can you make this situation not a goal? That’s a clear goal.”
Klopp added: “It’s just not OK. Trafford has no chance to get to the ball.
“It was the perfect goal and Salah gets pushed into an offside position.”
Liverpool winger Cody Gakpo also had a goal scrubbed out by VAR for a tug by Nunez on Charlie Taylor.

And Klopp’s comments will make uncomfortable reading for Hooper who was at the centre of more controversy at Manchester City’s 3-3 draw at Tottenham this month.
He blew for a foul on Erling Haaland rather than playing advantage after the Norwegian had sent Jack Grealish clear through on goal.
Even so Burnley could not take advantage of their reprieve and Klopp was delighted as the Kop’s title push continued.
He said: “Forty-two points. That is really pleasing, really cool. The first part of the season is done. It was absolutely all right what we did. Not perfect, but all right.
“It keeps us so we cannot be more than a point away from the top of the table if Arsenal win, that’s within punching distance.”
    ‘ALIVE AND ENTERTAINING’
With Salah heading to the Africa Cup of Nations early next month, the Reds will need Nunez and Jota — who is just back from injury — to weigh in with goals.
Klopp added: “Diogo is an incredibly important player for us, having him changes the whole dynamic. The goal he scored was a goal of a boy full of conviction.
“The goal for Darwin was as important.”
Burnley lost a ninth home match out of ten in the Prem this season but boss Vincent Kompany still believes his team can come good.
He said: “We had our moments — the team fought and was alive and entertaining. It just lacks a final touch.

The North Londoners opened the scoring with Gabriel Magalhaes after just four minutes and the Merseysiders equalised with Mohamed Salah 25 minutes later.
But Liverpool felt they deserved the three points as they insist they were denied a clear penalty in the first half before Salah’s equaliser.
The Egypt international tried to dribble past Martin Odegaard, who lost his balance and touched the ball with his left hand inside the Arsenal area.
However, the referee waved play on and VAR didn’t get involved which angered the host.

Saliba, who put together yet another man-of-the-match performance was asked about the incident involving Odegaard.
And the centre-back admitted outright that his Arsenal captain handled the ball and Liverpool should have been awarded a spot-kick.
Saliba said: “Yeah, of course it was a penalty but I’m not the ref.”
The France international’s comments went viral as that was a rare case of admission from an opposing player.

Tsimikas in hospital after touchline collision with Klopp as Liverpool boss says ‘I wish I could give him my collarbone’

JURGEN KLOPP turned into Jurgen Crock after a freak collision put one of his own stars in hospital – and left him facing a left back crisis.Kostas Tsimikas suffered a broken collar bone when a touchline tangle with Bukayo Saka ten minutes before the break sent him crashing into the Liverpool boss.

Both Klopp and the Reds defender hit the deck, and Tsimikas was left holding his shoulder in agony.
He was immediately taken to hospital, where it was confirmed he had suffered a broken collar bone, leaving Liverpool with a huge injury headache.
Andy Robertson is still out after shoulder surgery in October, and Tsimikas’ KO soured a thrilling match for Klopp.
He admitted: “It was massively overshadowed by Kostas’ collarbone issue, and it is definitely broken, so he is out for a long time.

“I thought at first it’s not a real problem because I had no pain. I would happily give my collar bone and Kostas would be fit again.
“I was completely fine and I thought him, too, but I asked Kostas and he said ‘no, it’s broken.’ Of course that’s not cool and you’re kind of involved.
“I’m not even sure if I fell on him and these things should not happen. The other issues we will have to see, but it is hard for us to swallow with the Robbo situation.”
Referee Chris Kavanagh penalised Saka for the foul, yet there was no intent in the incident and the Arsenal winger swiftly apologised after the top-of-the-table draw.

Saka said: “I want to apologise to him. I didn’t mean it of course. It was just a 50-50, I went shoulder to shoulder with him.
“I didn’t see him but he must have taken a bad fall. I didn’t see that he went into Klopp either. I kept running because I didn’t think it was a foul.”
Centre back Gabriel headed Arsenal in front after only three minutes, with Mo Salah levelling it just before the half hour.
It means the Gunners top the table at Christmas – yet Klopp felt Liverpool should have had a penalty when Martin Odegaard handled in the box.
The Arsenal skipper escaped as it was ruled that he was using his arm to steady himself as he fell. Klopp didn’t blow a fuse, but did feel hard done to.
He added: “I’m pretty sure someone will tell me it’s not a handball but I don’t know how. I don’t say the ref can see it because I don’t know where he was.
“But how can a guy in an office see that and not come to the conclusion that maybe, possibly it could be worth the referee having another look?”
Gunners boss Mikel Arteta insisted it was the most high octane clash he had seen in two decades – and delighted that he will sit down to Christmas dinner as a table topper.
Arteta said: “It was an unbelievable game, one of the most intense I’ve witnessed in 20 years in this league.
“I’m happy to be where we are. Tomorrow we will have a beautiful dinner with our families, then it’s back to work.”
Klopp also felt it was an honours-even showdown, and reckons it was proof that Liverpool have what it takes to mix it with the best in a title race again.

He added: “Absolutely we take confidence from the result. You have to take confidence from these results and performances against a top, top side.
“We did not play bad against City for example, but it was not as good as this, and you have to take these things forward.” More
