United must fend of interest from Manchester City, Liverpool and Tottenham – who all have their eye on the defensive midfielder.
The Mail report that talent-spotters were in attendance at Boro matches in recent months, and Spurs are among those most interested.
Premier League scouts attended his last game away at Bristol City before he picked up a hamstring injury.
Interestingly, most of those top six clubs have not watched the team during his three game absence.

Both Manchester clubs are monitoring him, with United said to be more keen.
Hackney’s manager is United legend Michael Carrick, who guided Boro to fourth in the Championship last year.
The England star signed a new four-year contract in the summer, but there is an acceptance he will snapped up if Boro fail to win promotion to the Premier League.
United midfielder Casemiro failed to replicate last season’s form before his injury, and Sofyan Amrabat will likely miss out on a permanent move.

Klopp leaves Liverpool fans in hysterics with brutal taunt at Chelsea over Caicedo and Lavia transfers

JURGEN KLOPP left Liverpool fans in hysterics after taking a brutal swipe at Chelsea over their deals to sign £173million pair Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia. Both midfielders snubbed Klopp and Anfield in the summer in favour of Mauricio Pochettino and Stamford Bridge.
Jurgen Klopp took a brutal swipe at Chelsea over their deals for Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia
Caicedo joined Chelsea in a British transfer record deal but has been unable to steer the club up the table
Romeo Lavia has struggled with injuries and is yet to feature for the Blues
However, Caicedo has struggled for form since his British transfer record £115m move from Brighton while injury-hit £58m Lavia is yet to play since signing from Southampton.
Liverpool instead signed Dominik Szoboszlai, Alexis Mac Allister, Ryan Gravenberch and Wataru Endo for £148m.
This new-look midfield has been instrumental in transforming Liverpool into the side who sit top of the Premier League table.
Chelsea, however, are in 12th having won only five games this season.

And during a club test event for Anfield’s new stand, Klopp made a cheeky dig towards the deals.
He said: “Between us, my god were we lucky! We didn’t know that in the moment
“We realised other central defensive midfielders didn’t want to join… then you see what happens.”
Fans were loving the roast online, with one saying: “The dig at Caicedo was brilliant haha.”

Jurgen Klopp smashes Sir Alex Ferguson’s Man Utd record with incredible feat as Liverpool stars conquer ‘inner enemies’

JURGEN KLOPP claims his Liverpool mentality monsters have conquered their “inner enemy” to climb to the top of the Premier League. But it has required all hands on deck to overcome fatigue and keep coming back from behind.
Klopp has become the master of late winners
The man who invented Fergie Time always knew how long was left
No top-flight boss has made more changes to his starting line-up nor used more subs in all this season than Klopp.
That has helped Liverpool to recover a staggering 18 points from losing positions after Harvey Elliott’s stoppage-time winner at Crystal Palace at the weekend.
Under Klopp, the Reds’ 17 injury-time winners is now higher than Manchester United’s ‘Fergie Time’ era under their legendary boss Sir Alex.
Klopp said: “The bad thing about the amount of games we’re playing is that it’s really tiring. The good thing is that everyone gets to play.

“It’s tough. These boys play an awful lot of football and sometimes their inner enemy is louder than it is at other moments. It’s all about the mindset.
“A lot of the boys have been struggling with that but we have been able to change things from the bench because we don’t just change the players, we also change the system.
“But it’s still down to the players to take advantage of these little helping hands that we give them.

“It’s a very similar situation to when we won the Champions League [2018–19] and when we won the Premier League [2019–20].

“Everyone thinks we used the same team all the time but we had Fabinho, Jordan Henderson, Gini Wijnaldum, James Milner, Adam Lallana, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita in midfield and up front we had Mo Salah, Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino, Xherdan Shaqiri, Divock Origi and Takumi Minamino.
“That’s what you need to make a difference and now we have that quality again.
“That allows us to make the moves we did at Crystal Palace when we sent on Cody Gakpo, Elliott and Curtis Jones. We were able to completely change our shape to win the game.
“We can play with different systems but at the moment we have to work with the players who are physically available. We are playing three games a week.”
Elliott became the 11th Reds sub to score this term and Klopp has made 138 changes to his starting XI in all competitions and another 104 from the bench.
With top spot confirmed, Klopp can rest his stars for Thursday’s Europa League trip to Union Saint-Gilloise ahead of Sunday’s game with Manchester United.
Then they face a Carabao Cup last-eight tie with West Ham on December 20 before a Prem clash with Arsenal three days later. More

Reds boss Jurgen Klopp could now fast-forward plans to buy a replacement and has been looking at Frenchman Lacroix along with Crystal Palace star Marc Guehi.
Lacroix, 23, has been in the Bundesliga after joining from Sochaux in 2020 and Wolfsburg would want £30million as he only has 18 months left on his deal.
The 6ft 3in defender is one of the fastest players in German football and can also play  right-back.
Another target for Klopp is England international Guehi.

Palace will listen to offers of £50m-plus but they are not interested in him leaving next month.
Klopp will now rely on skipper Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate in central defence — with Joe Gomez and rising star Jarell Quansah currently the only back-ups.
The arrival of Lacroix would ease those woes, with the former French youth international capable of playing on both sides of central defence.
He has already kept two cleans sheets for Wolfsburg this season despite their inconsistent Bundesliga form.

Boss Wilder got a warm reception on his return to replace Paul Heckingbottom.
He said: “It will stay with me forever and I thank them from the bottom of my heart.
“It has been a long-time away. I understand some supporters think it is a mistake, me coming back, so I have to earn their support.

The biggest fees came via Virgil van Dijk, who they purchased from Southampton in 2017 for £80m and goalkeeper Alisson, signed from Roma a year later for £67m.
Luckily, Trent Alexander-Arnold cost them nothing as he came through the Reds’ academy and Andy Robertson also cost a relatively cheap £8m from Hull six years ago.
Both are now up their with the best in their positions.
Man City’s side was worth £604m with the largest amounts coming from the £55m they spent on Kevin De Bruyne and the £63m for Rodri.

Over £1bn was spent on players in all ten of the games
Pep Guardiola could have made his starting XI even more pricey but decided to leave £120m duo Joao Cancelo and Riyad Mahrez on the bench.
Matches featuring Man City and Liverpool dominate the top ten, while Manchester United don’t appear on the list at all, despite spending close to £400m on players in the past two years.
Tottenham feature regularly with £63m man Tanguy Ndombele and £42m signing Davinson Sanchez bumping up the cost of Spurs’ XI.
Harry Kane came through the club’s academy but left for Bayern Munich for £104m showing his value.
Since Chelsea were purchased by Todd Boehly, the club has spent over £1billion on transfers and it is therefore no surprise to see the Blues make the rich list.
Their thrilling 4-4 draw against City earlier this season makes the cut with a combined £1.15bn value of players in the starting XI’s that day.
Also coming from this campaign, the 1-1 draw between the current champions and Liverpool completes the top ten.
The players on show last month were worth a combined £1.14bn.
