Thiago ‘leaning towards Liverpool transfer’ but could be swayed to join Man Utd by Spanish and Brazilian stars

MANCHESTER UNITED may yet gazump Liverpool in the pursuit of Thiago Alcantara, according to reports.
Bayern Munich are widely believed to be ready to sell the playmaker ahead of his contract expiring in 12 months’ time.

Although Liverpool were thought to be leading the race to sign Thiago, Bild report on United contacting his representatives over a deal.
The Red Devils have only recently bagged attacking midfielder Donny van de Beek but may have their eye on more arrivals.
It is said that, while the Anfield giants possess a greater chance of challenging for titles next season, Old Trafford has its merits too.
Less competition for a starting place may appeal to the 29-year-old, as well as the make-up of the United squad.

A strong contingent of Spanish and South American players is reportedly important to Thiago.
The Spain international was born in Italy but raised in Brazil, who brother Rafinha and father Mazinho have played for.
Juan Mata, David De Gea, Andreas Pereira, Fred, Marcos Rojo and Sergio Romero would all fit into such a category from United, along with Portuguese-speaking stars Bruno Fernandes and Diogo Dalot.
Liverpool boast a not inconsiderable Brazilian contingent of their own, including Fabinho, Roberto Firmino and Alisson Becker.

    2

Reports suggest Thiago is still leaning towards a move to Merseyside with negotiations over a £27million switch ongoing.
Potentially involved in a deal is Georginio Wijnaldum.
Like Thiago, the Dutch midfielder is out of contract in 2021 and has a number of suitors, including Bayern and Barcelona.

Liverpool have one week to complete Thiago transfer from Bayern Munich with two clubs £7m apart in valuation

LIVERPOOL are to try and seal a deal for Thiago Alcantara in the coming week after talks with Bayern Munich.
Reports suggest the Premier League champions are around £7million apart from Bayern in their valuations of the midfielder.

Personal terms are said to have already been agreed after discussions opened following the Champions League final.
According to Argentinian outlet Varsky Sports, Liverpool will allow themselves another week to find a solution with Munich.
The Reds’ favoured route to completing the deal is reported using additional bonuses and clauses to bump up the money.

Thiago, 29, said goodbye to his teammates earlier this month with the transfer set to cost in the region of £27m.

Having previously recommended a move to England for the Spaniard, Bayern coach Hansi Flick stated that Thiago’s next destination remains up in the air.
The German said: “I just thanked him for our time together, just like I did every other player.
“I don’t know and he doesn’t know yet either.
“Because we all focused on this Champions League final. I think we will have to wait for what the following days will bring.”

Liverpool’s title defence begins next month with a game against Leeds at Anfield.
And worries that Manchester City will be too hot to handle if Lionel Messi arrives are not universal, with Wayne Rooney suggesting Thiago would be a better addition than the Barcelona ace.
He told talkSPORT: “I think it is City or Liverpool [for the title].

“Manchester United have a lot of potential in the players they have got but I still think they are a year away. Chelsea with the new signings will possibly need a year to get everyone on the same song sheet.
“So I do think it is between City and Liverpool. And if Liverpool get Thiago from Bayern Munich, I think it is done.
“That is a better signing than Messi going to Man City.”

Leeds plotting Liverpool raid as Bielsa eyes Divock Origi transfer and Rhian Brewster loan for Premier League return

LEEDS could swoop for Liverpool duo Divock Origi and Rhian Brewster, according to reports.
The Premier League new boys are looking to strengthen their squad ahead of their first Premier League campaign in 16 years.

    1

Brewster and Origi are being eyed by Leeds ahead of their return to the Premier League
The Whites have identified Origi as an alternative to Odsonne Edouard of Celtic and are also hoping to sign Brewster on loan.
Both players are currently in Austria for Liverpool’s pre-season training camp, with Brewster on the scoresheet in a 3-0 friendly win over Stuttgart yesterday.
The Mirror claims Origi is open to a move away from Liverpool in search of first-team football and is keen to stay in England.
Origi scored six goals in 42 appearances for the Reds last season but has struggled to force his way into Jurgen Klopp’s starting XI.

Leeds are said to have enquired about the Belgian’s availability with Celtic increasingly unlikely to sell Marcelo Bielsa’s top target Edouard now that their 2020-21 season is under way.
Aston Villa were linked with the 25-year-old earlier this month.

Brewster meanwhile, looks set for another loan spell away from Anfield following a successful stint at Swansea last season.
The 20-year-old striker scored 11 goals in 22 appearances for Steve Cooper’s side as they finished sixth in the Championship before losing to Brentford in the play-off semi-finals.

Aston Villa, Brighton, Fulham and Newcastle have also been linked with loan moves for Brewster.

Liverpool star Georginio Wijnaldum wanted in Barcelona transfer as new boss Koeman ‘tells him to snub new deal’

GEORGINIO WIJNALDUM is a transfer target for Barcelona with new boss Ronald Koeman urging him to snub a new Liverpool contract, according to reports.
The midfielder, 29, has just one year left on his current deal at Anfield.

And according to AD in the Netherlands, Koeman has told his compatriot not to sign an extension.
That’s because, the report adds, the new Barca chief is keen to bring him to the Nou Camp instead.
Koeman replaced Quique Setien this week and is preparing for a major squad overhaul.
Other than seven ‘untouchables’ – Lionel Messi, Marc-Andre ter Stegen, Clement Lenglet, Nelson Semedo, Frenkie de Jong, Antoine Griezmann and Ousmane Dembele – everyone else is up for sale.

And the manager will be hoping to try and land Wijnaldum with some raised funds.
The midfielder signed for Liverpool from Newcastle for £25million in 2016 and played a crucial role in Jurgen Klopp’s men becoming European, world and – finally – Premier League champions.
But he is yet to pen a new deal and opened the door to a transfer in January by admitting it is “difficult to say” what the future holds.

He said: “What would I like? It is difficult to say.

“It depends on what the club wants and how the situation is at that time.”
Miralem Pjanic will join Barcelona as one new central midfielder during the brief off-season.
But Koeman managed Wijnaldum with the Dutch national team and already has fellow countryman De Jong in midfield.

The three teamed up expertly to help pull the Netherlands out of a dire state following their failure to qualify for back-to-back major tournaments.
And by signing Wijnaldum, they would no doubt hope to do something similar amid the chaos and unrest at Barcelona.
But Barca know it will not be easy to convince the former Feyenoord and PSV star to leave Anfield while making a move may prompt the Reds to prioritise sorting a new deal.

Aston Villa and Newcastle among SIX Premier League clubs chasing Liverpool striker Rhian Brewster on loan transfer

ASTON VILLA and Newcastle are reportedly among SIX Premier League clubs hoping to land Liverpool star Rhian Brewster.
The 20-year-old impressed after temporarily moving to Swansea in January – helping the Welsh side reach the Championship play-off semi-finals.

Goal claim Liverpool have been encouraged by the striker’s progress and believe a loan to a Premier League side would be the ideal next step.
Aston Villa are thought to be among the England starlet’s options following failed big-money moves for Wesley and Mbwana Samatta.

Newcastle, Burnley, Brighton and Crystal Palace have all contacted Liverpool over Brewster, as have newly-promoted Fulham.
While SunSport previously Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder wants to take him to Bramall Lane to add fresh legs and threat to his forward line.

However, the biggest threat to the loan switch is that Jurgen Klopp may opt to keep the England Under-21 ace and use him as cover for his attack.
Brewster is currently with Liverpool’s squad at their pre-season training camp in Austria.
The England U17 World Cup Winner will feature in the Reds’ behind-closed-doors friendly fixtures this month before Klopp makes a decision on his future.
Brewster, for his part, recently lifted the lid on his plans for the future and admitted he’d rather stay at Anfield.

He told The Beautiful Game podcast: “Ultimately, I want to be at Liverpool next season. I want to be fighting for a spot to play.
“Who is not going to want to play at the home of the champions? I don’t really want to go on loan, but if that’s the best thing for me to do, to go away and get more game time, then that’s what I’m going to do.
“Realistically, I want to play for Liverpool. I want to be the striker, you know? I’ll go to [the Reds’ pre-season training camp], work hard and then whatever the boss says to do, I will accept, whether that’s to stay or whether that’s to go back on loan.”

Liverpool in Ismaila Sarr transfer race as Watford demand £40m fee for winger to not make loss after relegation

LIVERPOOL are chasing Ismaila Sarr – but Watford are determined to hold out for more than £40million for the winger, according to reports.
The Hornets spent a club-record £30m on the Senegal international, 22, last summer to bring him in from Rennes.

But with their combination of managers unable to keep them in the Premier League, some of the bigger names are expected to be sold.
However, as revealed by SunSport, the Vicarage Road outfit are desperate not to make a loss on Sarr – and will instead try and get a record fee if they do sell.
One Merseyside club, Everton, paid £40m for Richarlison in 2018.
And across Stanley Park, Liverpool may have to top that to land Sarr this summer.

The report adds that Crystal Palace and Wolves are both interested in him as well – the former scouting him at Rennes but likely to be priced out of a deal.
According to the Evening Standard, Liverpool are the favourites to sign the man who wrecked their hopes of going the whole Premier League season unbeaten with his man-of-the-match performance in the 3-0 win in February.
Sarr, who still has four years left on his Watford contract, is thought to be open to the idea of a move to one of the Premier League big boys, with Anfield his preferred destination.

And it is understood contact has already been made by the English champions.

There, although unlikely to be a regular starter, he would be able to reunite with Sadio Mane after the Senegal pair came through at the same academy.
However, in order to finance a transfer, the Reds would need to raise some funds and could do so through the sales of Harry Wilson, Xherdan Shaqiri and Marko Grujic.

Liverpool close in on £12m transfer deal for Olympiakos full-back Tsimikas as Leicester miss out

LIVERPOOL are closing in on the signing of Olympiakos left-back Kostas Tsimikas, according to reports.
Leicester were linked to Tsimikas earlier this week as they search for a replacement for Chelsea target Ben Chilwell.

    2

Liverpool have reportedly beaten Leicester to the £12million signature of Olympiakos left-back Kostas Tsimikas
However, it is believed Liverpool have won the race for the Greek defender and will make him their first signing of the summer in a £11.75million deal.
The Reds have been seeking cover at left-back for Andy Robertson with midfielder James Milner often required to fill in when the Scotland captain is unavailable.
The Premier League champions reportedly had a £10million bid rejected for Norwich City’s Jamal Lewis last week.
The relegated Canaries want closer to £20million for the Northern Ireland international and Liverpool are thought to have turned their attention elsewhere as a result.

Real Madrid’s Sergio Reguilon, who has spent this season on loan at Sevilla, was also thought to have been considered before the Reds seemingly agreed a deal for Tsimikas.
The Greece international impressed against Wolves in the Europa League last-16 on Thursday and has seven assists in 46 appearances in all competitions this season.

Goal reports the 24-year-old is expected to complete his Anfield medical early next week with an official announcement to be made soon after.
The arrival of Tsimikas could signal the departure of 19-year-old left-back Yasser Larouci, who was linked with newly-promoted Leeds and Championship side Brentford last month.

Liverpool have already seen Dejan Lovren and Adam Lallana depart the club this summer for Zenit Saint Petersburg and Brighton respectively.
