Liverpool set to be beaten to David Alaba transfer by Juventus as Reds desperately seek cover for Van Dijk and Gomez

JUVENTUS are pushing hard to sign Liverpool and Manchester City target David Alaba, according to reports in Italy.
The Bayern Munich defender is out of contact in June and appears to be heading to the Allianz Arena exit door.

According to Tuttosport, Juve are very keen on the Austrian as a replacement for 36-year-old star Giorgio Chiellini.
Andrea Pirlo is intent on signing a centre-back for the left side of a defensive partnership, with left-footed Alaba a convincing option.
The Austrian, 28, has been a star of Bundesliga since breaking out at Bayern in 2011.
An extremely versatile player, Alaba started out as a midfielder before moving to left-back.

But all ten of his appearances this campaign have been in central defence, a position he has taken up since Alphonso Davies’ emergence.
Real Madrid and Manchester City are also named by the Italian media as interested in Alaba.

What Liverpool are missing during Virgil van Dijk’s absence
Pep Guardiola added Nathan Ake and Ruben Dias to his squad in the summer, having suffered from a defensive injury crisis last season.
This time around, it is Liverpool who are struggling with a number of stars out of action.

Virgil van Dijk is not expected to play again this season following his Merseyside Derby tangle with Jordan Pickford.

The Reds hope to have Joe Gomez back by the spring while Trent Alexander-Arnold and Fabinho are out for a few weeks.
Also linked to the Premier League champions are Napoli star Kalidou Koulibaly and Olympiacos bad boy Ruben Semedo.
Meanwhile, Juventus are said to be keen on Diego Carlos of Sevilla and Fiorentina’s Nikola Milenkovic if Alaba does not arrive.

Liverpool ‘to make Koulibaly transfer move in January’ as Klopp faces defensive crisis after Van Dijk and Gomez injuries

LIVERPOOL are reportedly preparing a January raid for Napoli star Kalidou Koulibaly.
Jurgen Klopp is desperate to ease his injury woe with the Reds’ defence decimated in recent weeks.

Virgil van Dijk was the first to fall with a serious knee injury picked up courtesy of Jordan Pickford in the Merseyside Derby.
Not expected to play again this season, the Dutchman underwent surgery late last month.
Liverpool hope to have Joe Gomez fit by the spring after the defender picked up a knee tendon problem on England duty.
The 23-year-old did not suffer any ligament damage but also had to go under the knife, depriving Klopp of both his first-choice centre-backs.

Potential cover in Fabinho was lost when the versatile Brazilian suffered a hamstring injury in the win over Midtjylland.
Trent Alexander-Arnold is the final Reds defender currently unavailable for another few weeks having succumbed to a calf strain.

How Virgil van Dijk compared to the rest of the PL’s defenders at the time of his injury
According to The Mirror, a number of replacements are in the Anfield crosshairs ahead of the January transfer window.
Among them is Koulibaly, 29, who Klopp is said to be a big fan of.

Senegal team-mate Sadio Mane is described as a potential asset in a deal, with Liverpool priced out of a move in the summer.
RB Leipzig star and Manchester United target Dayot Upamecano is another defender being considered.

The Premier League champions reportedly share a good relationship with the German club’s paymasters and Upamecano is said to have a £54million release clause.
That will drop to £36.5m in the summer, meaning a January switch may suit both Leipzig’s coffers and Liverpool’s urgent need.
Another name floated for the Reds’ January business is Schalke youngster Ozan Kabak.
The 20-year-old is emerging as a star at the Bundesliga club, who are languishing in the relegation zone, but is reportedly not seen as the short-term solution for this particular crisis.

Man Utd and Real Madrid transfer blow with Erling Haaland destined for Liverpool, according to RB Salzburg chief

LIVERPOOL have received a huge boost as they were tipped to complete a future move for Borussia Dortmund star Erling Haaland.
The striker, 20, caught the eye by exploding onto the scene with RB Salzburg in Austria before a move to Germany in January.

Following that switch, the hotshot has continued his electric form and scored 24 goals in 27 appearances.
Haaland has been linked with a transfer to Manchester United previously, with many believing he would be happy to link up with his old boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer again.
But they may have missed the boat as they failed to agree personal terms with the ace back in January.
They continue to still be linked with the forward along with Real Madrid, however, RB Salzburg’s sporting director Cristoph Freund says LIverpool is now his most likely destination.

Freund was replying to German legend Lothar Matthaus who name-dropped Liverpool when talking about Haaland’s future.
He replied: “He will land there.”
Speaking to podcast Sky90, he continued: “He can play for any club in the world.
“With his mentality, his will and self confidence, he will be able to make a mark on European football in the next ten years.”

Discussing his exit earlier this year, Freund added: “Erling really bit us.
“The talks with Dortmund were short. They told us they had come to an agreement. we didn’t have that much influence on it, but it worked out correctly.
“Many clubs were interested and got it in touch. In the end, it was a decision made by the player.”

Liverpool given huge transfer boost as Bayern Munich boss Hansi Flick CONFIRMS David Alaba contract talks have stalled

DAVID ALABA is yet to agree a new contract with Bayern Munich – potentially alerting Liverpool to a deal for the defender.
Bayern boss Hansi Flick has confirmed the club’s difficulty in tying down the Austrian with his existing deal expiring in June.

And Alaba, 28, has been linked with a move to Anfield after Virgil van Dijk’s injury – following in the footsteps of former team-mate Thiago Alcantara.
Flick told reporters: “Alaba is doing a good job.
“I feel he’s the same as last season, very focused, loud on the pitch, one of the players who leads our defence. For me, there’s no difference between now and last season.

“I’m not concerning myself with [his future] at all right now.
“I really hope that he signs a new deal with Bayern because I think he knows what the current situation is in Munich.
“We have a lot of fun, it is a good atmosphere in the team and we play successful football. It is a club that belongs among the best in the world.
“The conditions are top for every player right now and I think he’ll think twice about changing that.

“He will think about it, I am sure, but we will have to respect any decision. I hope he will remain with us but ultimately it is his decision.”

Manchester clubs United and City, plus Juventus, are also said to be tracking Alaba.
Munich have won six of the seven games he has played this season, including the Uefa Super Cup and their opening two matches in the Champions League.
Snapped up from Austria Wien as a teenager, the versatile star has been a mainstay in the Bayern side for a decade – winning nine Bundesliga titles.
But contract talks have been tough with former club president Uli Hoeness slamming Alaba’s agent.

    It’s purely about money.
Uli Hoeness On Alaba’s Extension Talks

Amid talk of an £18.5million agent’s fee, he stated last month: “It’s purely about money.
“If you only knew what [Pini] Zahavi wants for himself from David’s signature – an eight-figure sum.
“That is not at all possible. I can understand that Hasan [Salihamidzic, Bayern director] totally flipped out at a meeting. The arguments that are exchanged there defy belief.”

Liverpool open transfer talks with Schalke over cut-price move for £40m-rated defender Ozan Kabak after Van Dijk injury

LIVERPOOL have reportedly opened talks with Schalke over a cut-price move for Ozan Kabak after Virgil van Dijk’s injury.
The Reds skipper suffered a horror ACL rupture after Jordan Pickford’s wild challenge in the Merseyside derby.

Van Dijk required surgery on his knee which is set to rule him out for the remainder of the campaign.
The Kop outfit must make do with Joe Gomez, Joel Matip and Fabinho as the centre-back options until the transfer window reopens in January.
But Jurgen Klopp is already working on a plan to bring in cover.

Reports earlier this week suggested Liverpool had identified Kabak as a target.
And according to the Mirror, negotiations are underway between the Anfield club and Schalke.
The Bundesliga side rated Kabak at around £40million before the coronavirus pandemic hit.
They are still hopeful of getting at least £30m for their defender, who is under contract until 2024, but Liverpool want to pay £20m up front plus add-ons.

Kabak, 20, came through the youth ranks at Galatasaray before moving to Stuttgart and then on to Schalke a year ago in a £13.6m transfer.
He already has six goals in just 65 senior club appearances and four full Turkey caps to his name.
Fabinho filled in at the back in the wins over Ajax – shining in Amsterdam – and Sheffield United, although he did give a penalty away against the Blades.

Liverpool line up shock transfer move for Stoke outcast Jack Butland after Adrian shipped seven at Villa

LIVERPOOL are lining up a shock transfer move for Stoke outcast Jack Butland, according to reports.
With No1 Alisson injured, Jurgen Klopp was forced to turn to back-up goalkeeper Adrian for the clash at Aston Villa last week.

But it did not go according to plan for the Spaniard as he shipped seven goals in a humiliating defeat, including the opener when he passed the ball to Jack Grealish inside his own box.
And according to the Sunday Mirror, Liverpool could turn to Butland to replace as Adrian as the No2.
Butland, 27, is one of Stoke’s top earners but has not played for the club since a 5-0 defeat to Leeds in July.

Welsh international Adam Davies has claimed the first-choice spot under Michael O’Neill with the Potters sat 13th in the Championship table.
Butland broke on to the scene at Birmingham and made his senior England debut aged just 19 to become the Three Lions’ youngest goalkeeper.
A £4million move to Stoke and a further eight caps followed with the Bristol-born stopper tipped by many to be the national team’s No1 for many years.
However, after relegation with Stoke in 2018, he has struggled for form in the second tier with no one meeting the club’s £30m valuation for him.

That asking price will now have dropped significantly.

His contract expires at the end of this season but a transfer could still be done before Friday’s domestic transfer deadline.
And that could see Butland thrown straight in with a debut against Merseyside rivals and table-toppers Everton at Goodison Park on Saturday as Alisson is expected to be out for a few weeks still with his shoulder injury.
Liverpool did sign goalkeeper Marcelo Pitaluga from Fluminense this week as well.
However, the 17-year-old is not expected to be thrown into first-team action just yet but instead link up with the development teams.

Wijnaldum claims Barcelona transfer interest ‘was not that serious’ and hints at new Liverpool contract

GEORGINIO WIJNALDUM has insisted his rumoured move to Barcelona was never likely to happen.
The LaLiga giants were heavily linked with Wijnaldum throughout the transfer window but he stayed put at Liverpool.

With the Dutchman’s contract up at the end of a season, a move to the Nou Camp is still reportedly on offer but he believes a fresh deal at Liverpool is also possible.
Wijnaldum told reporters: “I don’t think [the interest] was that serious.
“Otherwise you would have read a bit more, or more would have happened. There was nothing precise.

“The way it looks now, I will stay in Liverpool.
“My contract is valid for another 10 months and that can change.
“You never know in football. We will see what happens.”
It had been reported that Wijnaldum was leaving Liverpool to make way for Thiago Alcantara.

But the former Newcastle star, 29, has completed every minute of the Reds’ title defence thus far, including the recent 7-2 defeat by Aston Villa.

    2

Meanwhile, Barcelona completed a relatively quiet market in terms of incomings, with only Sergino Dest purchased during the window.
They shifted Ivan Rakitic, Luis Suarez, Nelson Semedo and Rafinha off their wage bill, but failed with a deadline day bid for Memphis Depay.
The £22million deal was reliant on Ousmane Dembele leaving the Catalans and, with Manchester United not interested in a permanent deal for the winger, Depay stayed at Lyon.

Liverpool outcast Shaqiri set to stay at Anfield in exile until at least January as Reds receive no new transfer offers

LIVERPOOL outcast Xherdan Shaqiri is set for continued Anfield exile with no new offers for the Reds winger, according to reports.
The Swiss star, 28, has featured in just one matchday squad so far this season.

He did score in his 75-minute cameo against Lincoln but finds himself down the pecking order under Jurgen Klopp, who hinted at a departure.
The arrival of fellow wide man Diogo Jota from Wolves spelled further bad news for the former Bayern Munich and Inter Milan star.
And any hopes of a deadline-day move appear to be dashed.

He now looks as though he must wait until at least January to get a chance elsewhere.
According to Goal, the Reds did not receive any formal bids for Shaqiri in this summer window and were unwilling to allow him to leave on loan.
Roma and Sevilla both showed interest in January and had offers rejected but have not come back in for the Premier League winner.
There was talk Lazio may make a move but decided against making an offer.

Manchester clubs have the worst net spend in the past decade by some distance

Shaqiri joined Liverpool in 2018, arriving from Stoke for £13million.
The 82-cap Switzerland international has eight goals in 42 Reds appearances, with six in 30 during his first season.
He has three years still to run on his Anfield contract but looks on course to be out of the first-team picture for the coming months.
