Liverpool targeting January transfer double-swoop for Dayot Upamecano AND RB Leipzig team-mate Ibrahima Konate

LIVERPOOL are targeting a January double transfer swoop for RB Leipzig pair Dayot Upamecano and Ibrahima Konate, according to reports.

Jurgen Klopp is expected to be without first-choice pairing Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez for the rest of the season due to long-term injuries.
He has used Joel Matip, Fabinho, Nat Phillips and Rhys Williams at the heart of Liverpool defence in their absence.
And so he will be looking to do some smart business as soon as possible.
According to Bild, Klopp is eyeing his homeland Germany to find a potential solution to his problem.

Upamecano, 22, is one of the hottest young properties in Europe after his emergence last season.
Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool have all been linked with the Frenchman but he decided to stay put this summer, signing a new contract until 2023.
Bayern Munich and Real Madrid are also thought to be interested but Liverpool’s desperation for a quality centre-back may lead to the Premier League champions stumping up the cash in the New Year.
But Bild also reckon Konate is on their wish list.

The fellow Frenchman, 21, is also part of Julian Nagelsmann’s back three at Leipzig and under contract until the end of the 2022-23 season.
Transfermarkt suggests the pair’s combined value is around £90million – with reports of a £54m release clause for Upamecano.

Real Madrid join Barcelona and Inter Milan in transfer race for Liverpool ace Georginio Wijnaldum with contract expiring

REAL MADRID have joined Barcelona and Inter Milan in the race to sign Georginio Wijnaldum, according to reports.
The Liverpool midfielder, 30, is out of contract at Anfield at the end of the season and continues to refuse in committing his future.

According to Corriere Dello Sport via Sport, Los Blancos want to battle it out with their arch rivals Barca as well as Antonio Conte’s Inter for his signature.
Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane craves another option in the middle of the park.
And it is thought the Premier League and Champions League winner fits the bill.
Barcelona appeared to be in pole position to land the Liverpool star with former Netherlands head coach Ronald Koeman looking to reunite with the Dutchman.

But the two clubs could not agree a deal over the summer as Wijnaldum entered the final year of his deal.
Asked about his future during the international break in which he scored his first three goals of the campaign, he again did not pledge his loyalty to Anfield.
The 70-cap midfielder said: “I can’t say anything about that (my future).
“Just ask Liverpool those questions. Don’t they answer?

“I cannot say anything about it, including whether or not there is talk of a new contract between me and Liverpool. Sorry.”
And that opened the door for Inter to try and swoop with CEO Giuseppe Marotta placing Wijnaldum on his wish list – although no official approach has yet been made.
Wijnaldum can enter negotiations over a pre-contract agreement for a summer free transfer in January.
But if he is not going to sign a new contract, Liverpoool may prefer to sell in the New Year and at least get a fee.
Reds boss Jurgen Klopp is understandably keen to keep the ex-Newcastle midfielder, who has 19 goals in 199 Reds appearances.
It is thought he has been offered a 40 per cent pay rise from £75,000 to £105,000 to stay at Anfield.
But after winning the two biggest trophies available with the Kop club and now in his sixth season in England, he may be ready for change.

Liverpool set to be beaten to David Alaba transfer by Juventus as Reds desperately seek cover for Van Dijk and Gomez

JUVENTUS are pushing hard to sign Liverpool and Manchester City target David Alaba, according to reports in Italy.
The Bayern Munich defender is out of contact in June and appears to be heading to the Allianz Arena exit door.

According to Tuttosport, Juve are very keen on the Austrian as a replacement for 36-year-old star Giorgio Chiellini.
Andrea Pirlo is intent on signing a centre-back for the left side of a defensive partnership, with left-footed Alaba a convincing option.
The Austrian, 28, has been a star of Bundesliga since breaking out at Bayern in 2011.
An extremely versatile player, Alaba started out as a midfielder before moving to left-back.

But all ten of his appearances this campaign have been in central defence, a position he has taken up since Alphonso Davies’ emergence.
Real Madrid and Manchester City are also named by the Italian media as interested in Alaba.

What Liverpool are missing during Virgil van Dijk’s absence
Pep Guardiola added Nathan Ake and Ruben Dias to his squad in the summer, having suffered from a defensive injury crisis last season.
This time around, it is Liverpool who are struggling with a number of stars out of action.

Virgil van Dijk is not expected to play again this season following his Merseyside Derby tangle with Jordan Pickford.

The Reds hope to have Joe Gomez back by the spring while Trent Alexander-Arnold and Fabinho are out for a few weeks.
Also linked to the Premier League champions are Napoli star Kalidou Koulibaly and Olympiacos bad boy Ruben Semedo.
Meanwhile, Juventus are said to be keen on Diego Carlos of Sevilla and Fiorentina’s Nikola Milenkovic if Alaba does not arrive.

Liverpool ‘to make Koulibaly transfer move in January’ as Klopp faces defensive crisis after Van Dijk and Gomez injuries

LIVERPOOL are reportedly preparing a January raid for Napoli star Kalidou Koulibaly.
Jurgen Klopp is desperate to ease his injury woe with the Reds’ defence decimated in recent weeks.

Virgil van Dijk was the first to fall with a serious knee injury picked up courtesy of Jordan Pickford in the Merseyside Derby.
Not expected to play again this season, the Dutchman underwent surgery late last month.
Liverpool hope to have Joe Gomez fit by the spring after the defender picked up a knee tendon problem on England duty.
The 23-year-old did not suffer any ligament damage but also had to go under the knife, depriving Klopp of both his first-choice centre-backs.

Potential cover in Fabinho was lost when the versatile Brazilian suffered a hamstring injury in the win over Midtjylland.
Trent Alexander-Arnold is the final Reds defender currently unavailable for another few weeks having succumbed to a calf strain.

How Virgil van Dijk compared to the rest of the PL’s defenders at the time of his injury
According to The Mirror, a number of replacements are in the Anfield crosshairs ahead of the January transfer window.
Among them is Koulibaly, 29, who Klopp is said to be a big fan of.

Senegal team-mate Sadio Mane is described as a potential asset in a deal, with Liverpool priced out of a move in the summer.
RB Leipzig star and Manchester United target Dayot Upamecano is another defender being considered.

The Premier League champions reportedly share a good relationship with the German club’s paymasters and Upamecano is said to have a £54million release clause.
That will drop to £36.5m in the summer, meaning a January switch may suit both Leipzig’s coffers and Liverpool’s urgent need.
Another name floated for the Reds’ January business is Schalke youngster Ozan Kabak.
The 20-year-old is emerging as a star at the Bundesliga club, who are languishing in the relegation zone, but is reportedly not seen as the short-term solution for this particular crisis.

Man Utd and Real Madrid transfer blow with Erling Haaland destined for Liverpool, according to RB Salzburg chief

LIVERPOOL have received a huge boost as they were tipped to complete a future move for Borussia Dortmund star Erling Haaland.
The striker, 20, caught the eye by exploding onto the scene with RB Salzburg in Austria before a move to Germany in January.

Following that switch, the hotshot has continued his electric form and scored 24 goals in 27 appearances.
Haaland has been linked with a transfer to Manchester United previously, with many believing he would be happy to link up with his old boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer again.
But they may have missed the boat as they failed to agree personal terms with the ace back in January.
They continue to still be linked with the forward along with Real Madrid, however, RB Salzburg’s sporting director Cristoph Freund says LIverpool is now his most likely destination.

Freund was replying to German legend Lothar Matthaus who name-dropped Liverpool when talking about Haaland’s future.
He replied: “He will land there.”
Speaking to podcast Sky90, he continued: “He can play for any club in the world.
“With his mentality, his will and self confidence, he will be able to make a mark on European football in the next ten years.”

Discussing his exit earlier this year, Freund added: “Erling really bit us.
“The talks with Dortmund were short. They told us they had come to an agreement. we didn’t have that much influence on it, but it worked out correctly.
“Many clubs were interested and got it in touch. In the end, it was a decision made by the player.”

Liverpool given huge transfer boost as Bayern Munich boss Hansi Flick CONFIRMS David Alaba contract talks have stalled

DAVID ALABA is yet to agree a new contract with Bayern Munich – potentially alerting Liverpool to a deal for the defender.
Bayern boss Hansi Flick has confirmed the club’s difficulty in tying down the Austrian with his existing deal expiring in June.

And Alaba, 28, has been linked with a move to Anfield after Virgil van Dijk’s injury – following in the footsteps of former team-mate Thiago Alcantara.
Flick told reporters: “Alaba is doing a good job.
“I feel he’s the same as last season, very focused, loud on the pitch, one of the players who leads our defence. For me, there’s no difference between now and last season.

“I’m not concerning myself with [his future] at all right now.
“I really hope that he signs a new deal with Bayern because I think he knows what the current situation is in Munich.
“We have a lot of fun, it is a good atmosphere in the team and we play successful football. It is a club that belongs among the best in the world.
“The conditions are top for every player right now and I think he’ll think twice about changing that.

“He will think about it, I am sure, but we will have to respect any decision. I hope he will remain with us but ultimately it is his decision.”

Manchester clubs United and City, plus Juventus, are also said to be tracking Alaba.
Munich have won six of the seven games he has played this season, including the Uefa Super Cup and their opening two matches in the Champions League.
Snapped up from Austria Wien as a teenager, the versatile star has been a mainstay in the Bayern side for a decade – winning nine Bundesliga titles.
But contract talks have been tough with former club president Uli Hoeness slamming Alaba’s agent.

    It’s purely about money.
Uli Hoeness On Alaba’s Extension Talks

Amid talk of an £18.5million agent’s fee, he stated last month: “It’s purely about money.
“If you only knew what [Pini] Zahavi wants for himself from David’s signature – an eight-figure sum.
“That is not at all possible. I can understand that Hasan [Salihamidzic, Bayern director] totally flipped out at a meeting. The arguments that are exchanged there defy belief.”
