Man Utd, Chelsea and Arsenal have all been trying to acquire the services of Konate.
But according to The Athletic it is Liverpool who are closing in on putting pen to paper.
Journalist David Ornstein has revealed that the Reds have made ‘significant progress’ when it comes to a deal for Konate.
It is thought Jurgen Klopp’s side will be forced to pay a minimum of £34million in order to trigger the Frenchman’s release clause.
Konate has endured an injury-plagued start to his career since joining RB Leipzig from Sochaux in 2017.
The France Under-21 international has made only 17 Bundesliga appearances since the start of last season, having suffered from a muscle tear and an ankle issue.
But when he has been able to take to the field, he has impressed alongside compatriot Dayot Upamecano.
With Upamecano having already agreed to join Bayern Munich in the summer, however, it remains to be seen whether RB Leipzig will be willing to also cash in on their other prodigious French defender.

Liverpool boast the most-valuable squad in the Premier League
Meanwhile, Liverpool are keen to strengthen their back line despite bringing in Ozan Kabak on loan with an option to buy in the January window.
Klopp was hit by long-term injuries to both Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez earlier in the campaign.
And that depleted defence has been breached far too often since the turn of the year as the defending Premier League champions have slipped to seventh in the table.

Liverpool star Divock Origi eyed by Inter Milan in summer transfer with Klopp open to offers to help raise funds

INTER MILAN are reportedly eyeing up a summer move for Liverpool striker Divock Origi with Jurgen Klopp keen to cash in on the player. The 25-year-old has been limited to just nine appearances in the Premier League this season after falling down the pecking order following the arrival of Diogo Jota.

Origi – who has three years left to run on his deal at Anfield – looks set to depart Merseyside having started just twice in the top-flight this term.
According to Calciomercato, Antonio Conte is lining up a move for the Belgium international to bolster his attack.
Conte wants more competition for Romelu Lukaku, Lautaro Martinez and Alexis Sanchez, and believes Origi could challenge for a starting spot.
Former Chelsea boss Conte has mad a habit of signing players from the Premier League – with Lukaku and Sanchez making the switch to the San Siro alongside Ashley Young and Christian Eriksen.
Inter are also interested in Parma’s Gervinho, Cagliari’s Leonardo Pavoletti and Sassuolo’s Gianluca Scamacca, but it is understood Origi is their top target.
It has been claimed that Liverpool are more than happy to part ways with the ex-Lille ace as they look to raise funds for their own transfer business.
The report states that the Premier League champions would be willing to sell Origi for a fee in the region of £13million.
Inter are said to face competition from Borussia Dortmund in the race to secure Origi’s services.
But the Bundesliga outfit would only make a move for the former Wolsburg loanee should Erling Haaland depart Signal Iduna Park in the summer.

It was reported last month that Origi was one of a number of players that the Reds were keen to offload at the end of the campaign.
Xherdan Shaqiri, Harry Wilson, Sheyi Ojo and Marko Grujc are all understood to be up for sale.
And they could follow Georginio Wijnaldum out the door with the Dutch midfielder claimed to have agreed to join Barcelona on a free transfer.

Contract talks have stalled between the Merseyside outfit and the ex-Newcastle ace, with all signs pointing towards an Anfield exit.
And it has been claimed that Wijnaldum has already agreed to join Barcelona at the end of the season.
Liverpool may have already lined up his replacement, with Eurosport declaring that Berge is being eyed up by the Premier League champions.
They state that the 23-year-old is likely to depart Bramall Lane should the Blades be relegated, as he would prefer to compete in the top-flight.
Aston Villa are understood to also be keen on signing the Norway international, but Jurgen Klopp’s side are now expected to join the pursuit.
Berge – who joined United for £22million in January 2020 from Genk – could be available at a decent price if Paul Heckingbottom’s men fail to beat the drop.
Arsenal were linked with a move for Berge in November, while Manchester United have also been keen to sign him in the past.
The former Valerenga maestro has been limited to just 14 appearances in all competitions this campaign.

He hasn’t featured since December 17 due to having surgery on a tendon in his leg, but he remains a player of interest to many clubs.
Despite his injury, Berge has been called up by Norway for their World Cup qualifiers against Gibraltar, Turkey and Montenegro.
Commenting before United’s 2-0 FA Cup defeat against Chelsea, Heckingbottom said: “Sander isn’t fit.
“It’s going to be a while before he’s back playing football.
“He can continue rehabbing and progressing away from here, because that’s what he’s been doing anyway.”

Liverpool line up three transfer replacements for Wijnaldum and could offload five players including Origi in summer

LIVERPOOL have reportedly identified three possible replacements for Georginio Wijnaldum should the midfielder depart in the summer.
The 30-year-old is set to become a free agent at the end of the season with contract talks to extend his stay at Anfield believed to have reached a stalemate.

Despite heavy interest from Barcelona, the Holland international is understood to have reached an agreement to join Inter Milan.
And according to Goal, the Reds have already compiled a shortlist of players that can replace the ex-Newcastle ace.
They state that Borussia Monchengladbach star Florian Neuhaus is a serious option, as well as former Arsenal target Houssem Aouar who has impressed at Lyon this term.
Brighton’s Yves Bissouma is another player Liverpool are claimed to be interested in, though they could face competition from Manchester United.

Should Wijnaldum depart Merseyside, he is likely to be followed out the door by a number of his team-mates.
It has been suggested that Divock Origi is available for transfer having failed to score in the Premier League this season.
Swiss forward Xherdan Shaqiri is also facing the chop after failing to break into Jurgen Klopp’s starting XI since joining from Stoke in 2018.
Harry Wilson and Sheyi Ojo – both on loan at Cardiff – could be sold, with Marko Grujic another man up for sale by Liverpool.

Liverpool could be forced into selling a number of players should they finish outside of the top four.
The club currently sit sixth in the table – two points behind fourth-placed West Ham ahead of tonight’s clash against Chelsea.
Commenting on Liverpool’s situation, Klopp said: “The main reason for qualifying for the Champions League is always financial.
“It is a great competition to play in but for the club it’s about [finances]. Sure, you want to excite some players.
“In the beginning we were sitting with some players who had offers from clubs who played in the Champions League and it was like ‘OK, sorry, we can only offer nothing or Europa League.’
“But apart from that it’s always about finances. This year there is no difference, I would say.
“I hope people still see we do our absolute best and try everything to make it happen, but we will see how it will end up.”

Real Madrid want Mo Salah but cannot afford transfer for Liverpool superstar, confirms club’s ex-president

MOHAMED SALAH is too expensive for Real Madrid, former Blancos president Roman Calderon has asserted.
The Spanish side are one of a few linked to the Liverpool winger in recent weeks amid the Anfield club’s ailing title defence.

But a worthy bid will not arrive from the Bernabeu, according to 69-year-old Calderon.
He told Egypt’s ONTime Sports: “[Salah] is a great player and a goalscorer.
“He helped Liverpool by giving his best, but I don’t think they will let him go.
“It is expected that, if they were to think about it, they would only let him go for a lot of money.

“Salah is wanted, of course, by Real Madrid.
“But Liverpool would ask for a lot of money and, if that deal were to be completed, it would be crucial.

Liverpool boast the most-valuable squad in the Premier League
“Salah is a great player with fantastic potential, and any club wishes to acquire such talents, but for Real Madrid I do not think they have the financial means to sign Salah.”

Calderon led Los Blancos to two LaLiga titles in his three years in charge, striking the deal to sign Cristiano Ronaldo before resigning in January 2009.
Real Madrid did not spend a penny in either of the last two transfer windows amid the coronavirus pandemic’s financial crash.
Squad pay cuts have been negotiated and a new deal for club captain Sergio Ramos is yet to be agreed, much to fans’ dismay.
In any case, Liverpool will remain determined to hold on to 28-year-old Salah, who boasts a tally of 24 goals in 36 appearances this season.
Speaking ahead of the Reds’ win at Sheffield United, Jurgen Klopp said: “It is not often that I have to praise my own players, which of course I always like to do.

Mo is a very, very important player for us. And hopefully he will be that for a very long time, of course.
    Jurgen Klopp

“But in Mo’s case the numbers just speak for themselves.
“Mo is not only a goalscorer. He has developed football-wise as well – and is a very, very important player for us.
“And hopefully he will be that for a very long time, of course.”

Raphinha scored his fifth goal of the season against Southampton on TuesdayCredit: Reuters

His form has alerted the likes of United and Liverpool, among others ahead of the summer transfer market.
SportItalia report on the interest, with Leeds ready to fight to keep hold of the 24-year-old.

Netting again versus Southampton in midweek, the Brazilian revealed a heartfelt tribute to Ronaldinho’s mother after she passed away aged 71.

The best thing you can do with spontaneous players like this is to let them be themselves.
    Marcelo Bielsa

Speaking after the game, Marcelo Bielsa outlined why the attacker has become such a big asset to his team.

The Leeds boss said: “He’s a player who unbalances by himself.
“He’s very ambitious, very competitive. It’s not a very common mix because he works a lot and on top of that he is creative and can unbalance.
“I sincerely think I can add very little to his game. The best thing you can do with spontaneous players like this is to let them be themselves.”

A defender is reportedly high on Manchester United’s agenda ahead of the summer.
Sevilla’s Jules Kounde is one target featuring in gossip columns with there also talk of an attacking addition such as Raphinha.
Leeds will fight tooth and nail to keep him but both United and Liverpool would hope to dangle Champions League football his way.
However, defenders are also being more commonly linked with the Anfield giants of late with Fiorentina ace Nikola Milenkovic and Lille’s Sven Botman both named in reports.

Dybala’s contract expires in 2022 but injury issues are hampering his chances of signing a new deal in the coming weeks.
Juve managing director Fabio Paratici has admitted that the club are concerned by his fitness woe.
Talks over a new contract are taking place but could continue for ‘months’.
He said: “Paulo still has a few problems – it’s like he’s on a swing.

“Some days he’s better and others he’s worse. He seemed okay [last week], then he felt some pain again.
“We have spoken [about this contract], we have been speaking and will continue to speak in the next few days and months.”

Having been named on the bench for the Champions League defeat at Porto, 27-year-old Dybala again found himself ruled out of Monday’s victory over Crotone.

It was the 13th game he has missed due to injury in a turbulent campaign that has produced only three goals for the typically prolific forward.
Dybala is only two strikes away from reaching 100 Juventus goals, a feat achieved by only 12 players in the club’s prestigious history.
It is thought that the Old Lady will sell the attacker if he cannot agree a new deal by the summer.

Currently eight points behind in the title race and suffering from major pandemic-inflicted financial problems, the end of the season could herald a squad overhaul at Allianz Stadium.
In the summer of 2019, Tottenham were strongly linked with a deadline day swoop for the player and Mauricio Pochettino is reportedly keen on bringing him to new club Paris Saint-Germain.
Napoli have also been urged to bid for Dybala, in a reversal of the controversial move that saw Gonzalo Higuain sign for Juve in 2016.

Steven Gerrard reveals all on failed Chelsea transfer and fears Rafa Benitez would take £37.5m to rebuild Liverpool

STEVEN GERRARD feared Rafa Benitez wanted to sell him to Chelsea and use the £37.5million transfer fee to rebuild Liverpool.
The Londoners made several attempts to lure Gerrard to Stamford Bridge in the 04-05 season but the midfielder eventually extended his contract with the Reds six weeks after lifting the Champions League trophy in 2005.

Steven Gerrard was linked with a switch the Blues in the 04-05 season

Gerrard has since reflected on the transfer saga and admitted he regrets toying with the idea of a switch to Stamford Bridge but was very tempted by the offer.
He told Gary Neville on Sky Sports Soccer Box in June 2020: “I regret the little bit of flirting back then and how that all blew up.
“The fact is I didn’t know whether I was coming or going with Rafa at the time. Rafa was having conversations with me like ‘I know your agent is talking to Real Madrid and Chelsea’.
“I got a paranoid feeling at the time that Rafa would have taken money to try and build Liverpool on.

“Chelsea bid £37.5m. At the time, massive amounts of dough but what would you get for that now?”
    Neville joked: “Half a Fred!”
Gerrard continued: “[Jose] Mourinho was a massive part of that. A lack of maturity on my part allowed me to think about it and flirt with that idea a bit.
“But now I have no regrets at all because Liverpool are the club I love – and that’s the way it should be.”

Gerrard went on to earn legendary status at Liverpool and has never played for any other club in Europe – he only left Reds to spend 18 months at LA Galaxy before his retirement in 2016.
Chelsea in that time won both European competitions and triumphed in the Premier League five times.
In the past, Champions League-winning boss Jurgen Klopp has said Gerrard would be the ideal candidate to replace him in the Anfield hot seat.
The Rangers chief is said to be in regular contact with Klopp and the Anfield side’s powerbrokers.
Gerrard reckons the club should honour the German with a statue having delivered their first league title for 30 years.
