Arsenal and Newcastle’s next four matches
    Thank you, aaaaaand goodnight!

For Arsenal and Mikel Arteta, revenge was a dish best served cold on a Saturday night in February.
When Newcastle ended the Gunners’ unbeaten start in controversial fashion at St James’ Park nearly four months earlier, Arteta had a meltdown.
This time his team coolly and clinically dispatched Eddie Howe’s desperately limited side and kept their title challenge right on the boil.
With delicious irony Arsenal were helped on their way by the goal-line technology they felt had let them down in the North East.
On that occasion, the cameras could not conclusively show that the ball had gone out of play in the build-up to Anthony Gordon’s winner.
This time there was no doubt that Sven Botman had inadvertently given the Gunners the lead.
For the full match report, carry on reading here.

Tonight’s SunSport man of the match award goes to Jorginho.
He controlled the tempo of the game from start to (almost) finish, and was a general in the Arsenal midfield.
He was playing like that Jorginho that came third place in the Ballon D’or following a Champions League win with Chelsea, as he played a delightful ball into Gabriel Martinelli to assist Kai Havertz’ goal.

TNT Sports presenter noted to Bukayo Saka in his post match interview that his finish was ‘world class’, alluding to a comment made by Rio Ferdinand last week – “No comment” was his response.
He had this to say too as he made it 16 goals for the season: “I’m working hard every day on the training ground, giving my best, and got great teammates around me.”

It was a dominant performance by the Gunners, who were fully deserving of their four goals at home to Newcastle United.
Newcastle did manage to get one back through a box-crashing Joe Willock against his old club, but it was nowhere near good enough by the Magpies.
This is how the match stats look at full-time…

What a game it was too.
As the full time whistle blows, it ends Arsenal 4-1 Newcastle.
    Copy linkCopiedArsenal 4-1 Newcastle
90+3. Huge chance for Emile Smith-Rowe to get Arsenal’s fifth of the night.
He works a great bit of space for himself inside the box, but his left-footed shot is cleared off the line brilliantly by Dan Burn.
    Great defending.

    90. There will be FIVE minutes of added time at the end of the 2nd half.

    88. Jorginho goes down injured, but gets back on his feet to be replaced by Mohamed Elneny.
The Italian looks fine, and is in good spirits.
    Copy linkCopiedGOALLLLL! Arsenal 4-1 Newcastle
    85. Newcastle have one back!
Barnes works it nicely down the left-hand side into Dan Burn, who dinks a ball into the middle for Joe Willock who heads home with aplomb.
Great finish against his old club.
    Copy linkCopiedArsenal 4-0 Newcastle
    82. Harvey Barnes looks to take on Reiss Nelson on the left-hand side, but he can’t get past the Arsenal winger.
    Copy linkCopiedArsenal 4-0 Newcastle
    78. Fun fact: Arsenal are the first team in Premier League history to score two goals in seven successive halves of PL football.
    Copy linkCopiedArsenal 4-0 Newcastle
    76. Arsenal’s fourth goal has been given to Kiwior instead of a Lewis Miley own goal.
Great news for the Polish defender.
Kai Havertz, Bukayo Saka, and Martin Odegaard are all coming off for Arsenal now.
Reiss Nelson, Eddie Nketiah and Emile Smith-Rowe are all on, great news for fans of the Hale End academy.
    Copy linkCopiedArsenal 4-0 Newcastle
    74. An awkward moment for referee Paul Tierney there, as David Raya’s quick clearance hits him on the bum.
    Play is restarted.

    73. Three changes for Newcastle.
Tino Livramento is replaced by Dan Burn.
Jamaal Lascelles is on for Sven Botman.
And Joe Willock is replacing Bruno Guimaraes.
    Copy linkCopiedGOALLLL! Arsenal 4-0 Newcastle
    70. IT’S FOUR!
    It’s another set play!
It is whipped in and nodded goalwards by Jakub Kiwior, it takes a touch off of young Lewis Miley and beats Karius in goal.
    4-0!
    Copy linkCopiedArsenal 3-0 Newcastle
    67. That is a great response from Arsenal midway through the second half in this game.
Newcastle have had a few chances, one goal for them and they would’ve been right back in this game, but Saka has killed that hope for the Magpies now.
    Copy linkCopiedGOALLLLLL! Arsenal 3-0 Newcastle
    65. BUKAYO SAKA MAKES IT THREE!
Kai Havertz rolls the ball into the Arsenal starboy, he cuts in on his left foot and places it into the bottom left corner.
    Composure personified.
    Copy linkCopiedArsenal 2-0 Newcastle

Livarmento plays a great ball into open space for Anthony Gordon to run into.
He cuts inside and lashes a shot on target, but he is denied by David Raya.

    Man Utd 0-0 Fulham
    48. Fulham have begun the second half as they did the first – on the front foot.
Some lovely interplay releases Castagne down the right, and the former Leicester man wins his team a corner.
From the dead ball, the outswinger lands on to the head of Tosin, who flashes his effort well wide of goal.
    Copy linkCopiedKick-off – Man Utd 0-0 Fulham
    46. Back underway at Old Trafford for the second half.
Neither side have made a change, and do that hopefully means more of the same.
Copy linkCopiedFirst half facts and figures
For the 17th time this season, Fulham have failed to score in the first half. It’s not for the want of trying though.

Copy linkCopiedThe HT view from OT
Before he heads off for a half-time cup of soup, Neil Custis has been in touch…
“Honours even at the break with the goalkeepers tested at both ends before the half-time whistle blew.
“Onana denied Andreas Pereira a goal back at his former club while Bernd Leno went full stretch to stop Garnacho.”
    Copy linkCopiedHalf-time – Man Utd 0-0 Fulham
The half-time whistle blows and it’s goalless at the break – but how it is is anybody’s guess.
Fulham have been the better team, having started at an electric pace, but United have had their chances too during an entertaining first half.
Both sides have hit the post while the respective goalkeepers have also been required to be at their acrobatic best at times.

Copy linkCopiedMan Utd 0-0 Fulham – Wilson yellow card
45+2. Harry Wilson is the third Fulham player to go into the book this afternoon, all three following fouls on Alejandro Garnacho.
Well, he’s got one of those haircuts, hasn’t he?

    Copy linkCopiedMan Utd 0-0 Fulham
    45. The fourth official signals two minutes of stoppage time.
    Copy linkCopiedMan Utd 0-0 Fulham
    43. It’s incredible that this contest is still goalless with half-time on the horizon.
It’s been open, exciting and – in the past 20 minutes, at least – end-to-end action.
Copy linkCopiedMan Utd 0-0 Fulham – Pereira yellow card
    41. Michael Oliver has decided that Andreas Pereira waving his arm in his direction from 20 yards away is worthy of the same punishment as Harry Maguire clattering Sasa Lukic on the ankle with his studs.
Maybe blue cards isn’t such a mental idea after all…
Copy linkCopiedThe view from Old Trafford
Neil Custis ahas been keeping a keen eye on matters for us at Old Trafford, and writes…
“United starting to come back into it now.
“Garnacho had a shot headed away from in front of the line by Antonee Robinson.
“Maguire piled in to try and fire home the follow up but launched the ball over the bar.
“Bruno Fernandes was getting more on the ball and nearly threaded Rashford through.
“Then Diogo Dalot got forward and fired one of his trademark long-range efforts which clipped the foot of the post.
“Back at the other end and Fulham rattled the woodwork too with Rodrigo Muniz turning and firing a shot off the righthand post.”
    Copy linkCopiedMan Utd 0-0 Fulham
    38. Pereira with the curler! Saved by Onana!
Fulham once again cut their hosts open on the counter-attack, this time setting up their former Manchester United man on the left.
Pereira takes a touch to steady himself, and then whips a shot towards the far corner that Onana pushes away.

    Copy linkCopiedMan Utd 0-0 Fulham
    36. It’s an end-to-end contest now.
Mainoo comes to the party, slipping in a neat pass to Rashford, who despite a loose first touch manages to get a cross-shot away.
Tosin is back in the right place to clear from the danger area.
Copy linkCopiedMan Utd 0-0 Fulham – Maguire yellow card
    34. As Fulham burst forward again, Harry Maguire leaves a nasty one on the ankle of Sasa Lukic.
Chasing a loose ball, the United defender lunged in on the Serbian and caught him with his studs.
Michael Oliver goes back to book Maguire, but there’s no second look from VAR. We’ve seen red cards given for them.

    Copy linkCopiedMan Utd 0-0 Fulham
    32. Now it’s Fulham’s turn to strike the woodwork!
It’s brilliant centre-forward play from Rodrigo Muniz, who crisply controls Alex Iwobi’s square pass, turns his marker with ease, and then blasts against the top of the post.
    Copy linkCopiedMan Utd 0-0 Fulham
    30. Dalot hits the post!
United are beginning to apply a little bit of pressure, and almost grab the lead through an unlikely source.
Pushing into midfield, Dalot takes control, and then whips a long range effort across goal and on to the outside of the frame of the goal.
    Copy linkCopiedMan Utd 0-0 Fulham
    28. United threaten for the first time as a free-kick into the box causes chaos.
Maguire has the chance to shoot but doesn’t take it, only for Garnacho to take over, drop a shoulder and let fly,
It looks destined for the far corner until Robinson lunges in to head off the line.
Copy linkCopiedThe view from Old Trafford
Neil Custis is in the press box this afternoon, and he is far from impressed with the home side so far…
“Really shaky start from Manchester United who could easily have been behind.
“They are trying to be proactive pushing high up but are getting caught on the break.
“Twice Alex Iwobi had chances but failed to even test Andre Onana putting his shots wide.
“Marcus Rashford is getting no service up front and they are also struggling to find the dangerous Alejandro Garnacho.”
Copy linkCopiedMan Utd 0-0 Fulham – Tosin yellow card
    25. On a rare United foray forward, Garnacho sets off on a run in behind.
He doesn’t get though before Tosin sticks out an arm to pull him back.
Unsurprisingly, referee Michael Oliver can’t wait to get the yellow card out, and we have the game’s first booking.
    Copy linkCopiedMan Utd 0-0 Fulham
    23. Midway through the first half, and Manchester United are yet to have an attempt at goal.
In contrast, Fulham have had five, two of which have forced Onana into a save.
    Copy linkCopiedMan Utd 0-0 Fulham
    21. Fulham go close again!
Pereira’s corner is met by the head of Muniz, and although Onana makes a decent save, Lukic should follow up to score.
Unfortunately for the Serbian international, he moves too quickly, and can only chest it away from the goalline.
    Copy linkCopiedMan Utd 0-0 Fulham
    19. Up the other end, United win a corner that is swung towards the near post of Bernd Leno, who does well to punch clear.
Immediately, the visitors are on the counter, and earn a corner of their own when Lukic’ snapshot is diverted behind.
    Copy linkCopiedMan Utd 0-0 Fulham
    17. Beautiful football from Fulham!
Harry Wilson, Andreas Pereira and Alex Iwobi link up in midfield to cut United open.
Once again, it’s the Cottagers’ Nigerian ace that takes the shot on, driving forward towards the edge of the box as space opens up invitingly.
In the end, Iwobi’s effort is just wide, and he probably should have done better.
    Copy linkCopiedMan Utd 0-0 Fulham
    15. It’s the visitors that have been far superior in the opening quarter of an hour.
The question is can they take advantage while on top, or will their current confidence wilt under any spell of pressure?
    Copy linkCopiedMan Utd 0-0 Fulham
    13. Iwobi pulls a shot wide!
The Cottagers open up the home side with the most basic play, lifting a long ball forward to Muniz, who cleverly flicks on into space.
Iwobi and Wilson race on to it, and eventually it’s the former that takes the shot on, almost scuffing it into the ground and wide of the post.
    Copy linkCopiedMan Utd 0-0 Fulham
    11. It’s been an impressively confidence start from Fulham considering the number of changes they have made, and the new-look partnerships they have both in defence and midfield.
Sasa Lukic and Harrison Reed, in particular, have looked decent.

Dani Alves news — Ex-Barcelona star to appeal court decision after being found guilty of rape

FORMER Barcelona star Dani Alves has been jailed for more than four years after being found guilty of raping a woman in a Spanish nightclub. The court ordered that Alves pay £130,000 (150,000 euros) to the victim and sentenced him to four and a half years behind bars.
“The sentence considers that it has been proven that the victim did not consent, and that there is evidence, in addition to the testimony of the plaintiff, to consider the rape proven,” the court said in a statement.
The Brazilian right-back has denied the allegations and is set to appeal the decision.
Alves previously admitted to having sex with a woman in a Barcelona nightclub in December 2022 but insisted it was consensual.

Alves’ wife posts selfie a few minutes after sentencing
Dani Alves’ estranged wife Joana Sanz posted a glowing selfie just minutes after the former footballer was found guilty of rape.
The Spanish model appeared unfazed in the snap she uploaded on her Instagram story – just a few minutes after the sentence of her ex-husband was announced.
Sanz, who is in Maspalomas, Gran Canaria for an advertisement shoot, according to El Español, posted a series of snaps on Instagram.

Dani Alves contacted his friend and former teammate Neymar Jr for financial and legal help, according to Brazilian media.
UOL Esporte reported earlier this year that Neymar’s father, Neymar Sr, gave Alves money to help pay a €150,000 fine to the Spanish courts for “mitigating compensation for damaged caused.”
Alves also reportedly appointed Gustavo Xisto, a long-serving legal representative for Neymar Sr’s businesses, as his lawyer in June last year.
Alves and Neymar Jr were teammates at Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain and the Brazilian national team.

Alves’s new life behind bars is a far cry from his career as a footballer, which included him playing as a right-back for La Liga side Barcelona.
During his time on the pitch, he won six La Liga titles, two Ligue 1 titles and the Serie A.
Alves also won the UEFA Champions League on three occasions while playing for Barcelona in 2009, 2011 and 2015.
After a successful spell in Spain, Alves moved to Juventus in 2016 on a free transfer.
He helped the Turin club to a League title, a Coppa Italia and was an important part of the side that reached the 2017 UEFA Champions League final, losing to Real Madrid.
After just one season in Italy, Alves joined French side Paris Saint-Germain, where he enjoyed further trophy success.
Copy linkCopiedWhat has Dani Alves been found guilty of?
Dani Alves has been found guilty of raping a woman in the toilet of a Barcelona nightclub.
The Brazilian defender was accused of raping a woman in a Barcelona nightclub on December 30, 2022.
He has previously confirmed he had sex with a woman in the nightclub’s toilet but insisted it was consensual.
Alves has been held in pre-trial detention since his arrest in January 2023.
He has now been jailed for four and a half years.
Copy linkCopiedHow long will Dani Alves go to jail for?
Alves was sentenced to four-and-a-half years behind bars for rape.
The court also ordered Alves to pay £130K (150,000 euros) in compensation to the victim.
The ruling included a nine-and-a-half-year restraining order from the accuser.
The court said in a statement: “The sentence considers that it has been proven that the victim did not consent and that there is evidence, in addition to the testimony of the plaintiff, to consider the rape proven.”
Following the sentence, Alves was sent to Brians 2 prison in Barcelona. He had previously been held in pre-trial detention since his arrest in January 2023.
