Newcastle 1 Nottingham Forest 3: Toon in freefall as Chris Wood’s hat-trick earns first win for Nuno Espirito Santo

NOW it really is getting serious for out-of-sorts Newcastle.Losing away from home is one thing but when a side who’ve never previously picked up a Premier League point against the Magpies breach their St James’ Park fortress, the alarm bells are ringing loudly

Eddie Howe’s job may not be in peril but the stats are wracking up against him after the worst home display since he arrived over two years ago.
This was Newcastle’s sixth defeat in seven games, their third in a row and it;s Liverpool away next.
The star was ex-Toon striker Chris Wood, a striker deemed surplus to requirements by the Saudi-rich club on their supposedly inexorable climb towards the top of the football summit.
Wood scored a memorable hat-trick for Forest who came from a goal down to win for only the second time since September 2.
Their last victory in a top flight game on Tyneside was in 1988 when Brian Clough ran the show.
Now they’re up and running under Nuno Espirito Santo and while he still has plenty of work to do, this was Clough-esque in terms of upsetting the applecart.
It’s been a wretched December for Newcastle, Out of the Champions League, out of the Carabao Cup and now looking down and out.
And don’t bank on a return ticket to Europe. Momentum is going only one way right now.

After Alexander Isak scored from the penalty spot, Wood equalised in the 45th minute, then struck in the 54th and 60th minutes.
Three in quarter of an hour compared to four in more than a year as a Newcastle striker.
Forest’s last appearance at St James’ Park was in August last year on their long-awaited return to the Premier League.
How things have changed for them in the 17 months since though his was perhaps their finest hour over the period.
Not only are they under new management, their side is virtually unrecognisable from that balmy afternoon with Moussa Niakhate the lone survivor.
With such a bloated squad at his disposal, the new coach admits it may take him some to time to find his best starting XI.
He clearly wasn’t too impressed during the 3-2 defeat against Bournemouth, making six changes for his first away game in charge.
This eyecatching result will surely give him more appetising food for thought.
Despite their dreadful form, a rotten record against Newcastle and that raft of changes, Forest made a bright start and grew in confidence as the match wore on.
Newcastle forced a corner inside the opening 20 seconds but it was the visitors who had the first chance of the game in the third minute.
Teenager Lewis Miley was caught dawdling on the edge of his own area and Morgan Gibbs-White seized on the loose ball only to drag his shot inches wide.
Forest had already survived one VAR check when Isak went down inside the box but were not so fortunate in the 22nd minute when Ola Aina sent the Swede tumbling.
Isak stepped up to convert from 12 yards for his tenth goal of the season and first in six games.
The Magpies began to turn the screw. Set up by Miley, Anthony Gordon was only denied by a courageous, full-length block from Gonzalo Montiel.
And after wriggling his way towards goal, Isak’s shot from a narrow angle was pushed over the bar by Matt Turner.
But Forest were always looking to release Anthony Elanga and the former Manchester United man proved a constant menace, testing Martin Dubravka with one effort and firing another into the sidenetting.
And it was Elanga who created the equaliser for Wood in first half-injury time with the Kiwi scoring for the second successive game.
Forest always carried a threat on the counter, none more so than when Gibson-White had the Toon defence backpedalling as he burst upfield.
He played in Elanga whose pull-back was tapped into an empty net by Wood.
Newcastle almost hit back immediately but Isak headed straight at Turner before Hudson-Odoi sprang an attack only to shoot tamely at Dubravka.
It was Elanga who had Forest’s first shot on target in the second half when he seized on some hesitant Toon defending to bring another save out of the Slovakian keeper.
The Geordies looked a bag of nerves on the restart and they were made to pay when Wood struck again in the 54th minute.
Dan Burn had struggled throughout and he will want to forget the move which led to the Forest goal.
After failing to cut out Elanga’s delivery, the beanpole defender was then turned inside out by Wood who then deftly lifted the ball over the advancing Dubravka.
Burn was hooked moments later along with the equally ineffective Miguel Almiron but by now, Newcastle were a shambles.
And when – with Kieron Trippier playing him onside – Wood latched on to Murillos’s long ball before rounding Dubravka, it was game over.
Miley and Isak went close in the last half an hour but a Toon comeback never looked likely.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe Man Utd takeover LIVE: £1.3bn announcement made, Graham Potter updates, statement in full

SIR JIM RATCLIFFE’S £1.3bn takeover of Manchester United has FINALLY been announced. The British billionaire has purchased a £1.3billion stake in the Red Devils from the Glazer family.
Ratcliffe’s Ineos group will control the footballing operations, and he has already promised huge investment for Old Trafford.
Follow ALL of the latest updates below…

    Supporters Trust Sceptical
Manchester United’s Supporters Trust have issued a statement on Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s acquisition of shares in the club, which they have reacted to with scepticism.
It read: “During 18 years of debt, decay and mismanagement, Manchester United fans have loudly and consistently called for change at our Club.
“When the so-called Strategic Review was announced nearly a year ago, it finally appeared that the sale of the club was on the horizon, potentially bringing the new investment and new direction MUFC so clearly needs.
“Against that backdrop, fans have very mixed feelings today. We welcome the investment from a boyhood red, Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his INEOS company, but many will wish his ownership stake was greater than the initially rumoured 25%.
“We note the statements that he and his team will control sporting activities, yet puzzle how any organisation can put its very core business in the hands of a minority shareholder, and how that meaningfully works in practice.
“It is now incumbent on the Club’s owners and management to properly explain how this new structure will work, where the new investment will be directed and how it will benefit the team on the field.
“As the Supporters Trust, we expect to have discussions with the Club management and the INEOS team in the near future to understand their plans, and to put to them the very many questions fans have today.
“Today might – just might – be a step forward for Manchester United after some very difficult years.
“But with the Glazers still in charge, people should understand that United fans will remain sceptical and wait for the proof in the pudding.”

    Osimhen hope
Victor Osimhen’s agent has refused to rule out a summer exit for his client, who has been linked with a move to Old Trafford.
Roberto Calenda said: “Look, last summer many offers arrived, even monstrous ones.
“But De Laurentiis wanted to keep Victor, and we made ourselves available.
“If there had been the desire to leave, we would have said so. And instead, we worked, and a lot, only upon renewal.
“And next summer, it will be the same: we will talk to De Laurentiis and see together what to do.”
    Glazers in the money
The Glazer family are reportedly pocketing close to a three-quarters of a BILLION pounds for the sale of their B shares.
The American magnates officially offloaded 25 per cent of their shares to Britain’s richest man this week.
And figures from the sale have revealed the fan-loathed family have banked £717,131,000 for parting ways with the shares.
    Ratcliffe’s decision on Ten Hag
Sir Jim Ratcliffe has reportedly made a decision on Erik ten Hag’s future at the club.
The Dutchman’s future at Old Trafford is on a knife-edge due to a string of poor results this season.
It’s understood Ratcliffe is contemplating axing the former Ajax man if results don’t improve.
But Give Me Sport claims Britain’s richest man won’t make a decision on Ten Hag’s future until the end of the season.
    Untrustworthy stars
Gary Neville has singled out has claimed Manchester United stars can’t be trusted to perform consistently.
He said on his Sky Sports podcast: “It doesn’t surprise me.
“I didn’t get carried away when they played against Liverpool because I thought Liverpool were below par.
“United were relatively poor in possession.
“But they showed resilience and you always have to respect a draw at Anfield.
“Now, what we see from this team, and I don’t just mean under his manager, is pretty much the same. You can’t trust them.
“They will let you down when they give you a glimmer of hope that they might be on track, they go lose a game they shouldn’t.
“They have Aston Villa on Boxing Day but could lose against NottinghamForest four days later.”
    Ratcliffe’s message
In case you missed it, Sir Jim Ratcliffe has issued a heartfelt message to Manchester United fans following his acquisition of 25 per cent of the club.
He said: “Our shared ambition is clear: we all want to see Manchester United back where we belong, at the very top of English, European and world football.
“As a local boy and a lifelong supporter of the Club, I am very pleased that we have been able to agree a deal with the Manchester United Board that delegates us management responsibility of the football operations of the club.
“Whilst the commercial success of the Club has ensured there have always been available funds to win trophies at the highest level, this potential has not been fully unlocked in recent times.
“We will bring the global knowledge, expertise and talent from the wider INEOS Sport group to help drive further improvement at the Club, while also providing funds intended to enable future investment into Old Trafford.
“We are here for the long term and recognise that a lot of challenges and hard work lie ahead, which we will approach with rigour, professionalism and passion”.
“We are committed to working with everyone at the Club – the Board, staff, players and fans – to help drive the Club forward”.

Anthony Joshua vs Otto Wallin LIVE RESULT: Eddie Hearn teases fans with AJ’s next opponent after Wilder’s loss – latest

BRITISH mogul Anthony Joshua put on a masterclass that forced Otto Wallin’s corner to pull the Swede out after five dominant rounds in Riyadh. However there was a big shock in the co-main, with Deontay Wilder BLOWING the prospect of his AJ fight after being battered to defeat by Joseph Parker.
And it could mean a new opponent will be lined up for Anthony Joshua which Eddie Hearn has all but confirmed.
BETTING SPECIAL – BEST CASINOS UK
Follow ALL of the latest updates below…
    ‘Mental boost for Joshua’
Anthony Joshua’s decisive victory over Otto Wallin could be as good for his mental state as it is proof of his brilliant physical condition.
That’s the verdict of fellow British ex-world champ Lennox Lewis.
He said: “I think it does good for his mental state.
“Everybody saying he’s back, but there’s still a long road ahead, and some hard fighters.”
‘I’d rip Wilder apart’ – AJ
Anthony Joshua predicts Deontay Wilder will return but warned him: “I’d rip you apart.”
AJ’s five-round win contrasted with Wilder’s plodding points loss on the same Saudi bill.
That seemingly wrecked plans for the Brit to meet the American next year.
But after dispatching Otto Wallin, Joshua said: “I heard Deontay lost, so what? He will come back.
“Everything Deontay said about me, I could rip him apart right now but I’m going to take the high ground and I hope he comes back.
“You can do anything, just don’t give up, if he wants he can come back and fight another day.”
    Joshua to assess March date
Anthony Joshua’s next fight date is up in the air after he put himself in a “wonderful position” with victory over Otto Wallin.
Promoter Eddie Hearn said: “Does he want to fight in March? We’ll speak to [trainer] Ben [Davison], I know he’ll want to stay active I think.”
“I think he’s in a wonderful position. I think that was a statement to say he’s the man, he’s the man to watch in 2024.”
‘No way Fury could beat AJ’
Eddie Hearn claims Anthony Joshua is now back on top of the world and would definitely beat Tyson Fury.
AJ’s promoter Hearn said: “There is absolutely no way Tyson Fury beats Anthony Joshua, no way! No way!
“But let’s get behind Fury to beat Usyk and let’s get that fight made. That is the biggest fight of all time, in the history of the sport.”
Lennox claims AJ needs Fury or Zhang next
Heavyweight legend Lennox Lewis claims Anthony Joshua must fight Tyson Fury or Zhilei Zhang next to prove he’s truly back.
Lewis believes Otto Wallin was so poor that it was difficult to tell if AJ’s third straight win was an improvement.
The two-time champ told TNT Sports: “I couldn’t really judge with this fight if he’s back or not.
“He definitely looked good. He did what he was supposed to do, go out there and take out a guy you’ve taken out in fights before.
“The guy didn’t have any definition in his body. I don’t know if he worked hard or if he was in training camp or whatever, and I didn’t see him throwing any punches that actually connected, because AJ looked good after the fight, like a movie star, like he wasn’t even in a fight.
“I think it does good for his mental state, everybody saying he’s back, but there’s still a long road ahead, and some hard fighters.’
“He’s still got to go up against Tyson Fury – if that fight’s going to be made. I think that’s going to be a great fight for him.
“Zhang from China would be a great fight for him as well. There’s a couple of guys out there still wandering around.”
    Fans hail ‘bully’ AJ
Boxing fans praised Anthony Joshua online after his “bullying” victory over Otto Wallin surpassed expectations.
One said: “This is not a balanced fight. More like oppression.”
Another posted: “Well done AJ. Hope you’re proud.”
And a third joked: “This ain’t a boxing match, this is bullying.”
But some viewers claimed Deontay Wilder’s conqueror Joseph Parker would trouble the British heavyweight.
One pleaded: “Joshua please fight guys who have steel hands not paper.”
And another argued Parker would “eat him” – perhaps because a few fight-lovers insisted Joshua was “slow”.
Wilder claims he has a ‘little bit left’
Beaten Deontay Wilder doesn’t appear to have written off a shot at Anthony Joshua – at some stage.
Joseph Parker tore up the script with a dominant win over the American big-hitter – while AJ stuck to it with a powerful demolition of Otto Wallin.
Wilder seemed to admit all the talk beforehand of fighting Joshua was a distraction.
He said: “It was a lot of talk about a lot of things.
“We make no excuses. We’ll be back for sure. We have a little bit left.”
    Joshua posts victory message
Anthony Joshua looked imperious as he toasted and posted victory.
The Brit shared tow awes-inspiring snaps from the ring on social media.
And he added the words: “All praise to the most high.”

    AJ salutes Ruiz
Anthony Joshua didn’t forget his low point of his career after achieving the highest level of his comeback.
After dispatching Otto Wallin for a third straight comeback victory, AJ spotted Andy Ruiz Jr and beckoned him over for a fist-pump and a glove-shake.
Ruiz was a 25-1 outsider when he dethroned Joshua in 2019 before the Brit won the re-match.
Now AJ believes he is on the brink of topping the world once again.

Wilder loss may be ‘blessing’ for Joshua
Eddie Hearn claims Deontay Wilder’s shock loss to Joseph Parker could be a “blessing” for Anthony Joshua.
AJ was set to meet Wilder – but now Croat Filip Hrgovic will probably be his next opponent.
Following Joshua’s outstanding win over Otto Wallin, promoter Hearn suggested the Brit’s bid to become a triple world champ could now be boosted.
He said: “It was a tough decision between the championship and Deontay Wilder
“We signed for Wilder, he lost. But maybe it’s a blessing because he wants to become a three-time heavyweight world champion.
“Now it’s gonna be AJ vs Hrgovic for the world title.”
AJ desperate to fight Fury next
Anthony Joshua would “100%” to meet Tyson Fury next – but Filip Hrgovic is now the man most likely.
Hrgovic would step in if, as predicted, either Fury or Oleksandr Usyk vacate the IBF title before the second contest of their two-fight deal.
And asked who he wants to take on next, AJ said: “100% Tyson Fury but I’m not dodging Hrgovic, I’ll fight Hrgovic as well.”
AJ hails ‘lightbulb’ link-up with new trainer
Anthony Joshua says he’s switched his career back on after a “lightbulb” link-up with new trainer Ben Davison.
AJ believes his fifth trainer in two year has helped transform him, leading to the third and by far the best of his three straight wins.
Joshua dominated in a five-round triumph against Otto Wallin in Saudi Arabia yesterday.
Davison used to train AJ’s British heavyweight rival Tyson Fury.
And Joshua said: “He’s a scholar of the game and when we spoke, he saw what I have been trying to achieve in the business.
“And you know when someone understands you and the lightbulb comes on and you just finally get it? That was it.
“He hasn’t tried to change me. He is still trying to push me towards what I’m trying to achieve but he’s done it in a way where, because he knows boxing, he knows what I’m trying to do and he knows how to get it out of me.
“You would have to ask him because he’s quite articulate and he will give away quite a lot. But he switched a lightbulb on in this training camp.”
    Joshua ‘now unbeatable’
Eddie Hearn reckons Anthony Joshua showed he is now “unbeatable” after completing his rehabilitation.
AJ’s promoter hailed the heavyweight’s third win of the year as proof the 34-year-old is better than ever.
He said: “It was a punch-perfect performance.
“He dispatched him. It was a stunning performance, in this mindset and this team, I think he’s unbeatable.”
Hearn added: “He’s back, he’s destroying people in sparring. I believe he’s the best heavyweight in the world.”
    Francis fancies Wilder clash too!
Francis Ngannou enjoyed Deontay Wilder’s defeat to Joseph Parker and teased a fight with the loser.
The former UFC champion made a crossover to boxing when he faced Tyson Fury in October.

Ngannou, 37, narrowly lost that clash but after watching Wilder struggle against Parker he fancies his chances against the big hitter.
Wilder lost via unanimous decision with the judges scoring the contest 120-108, 118-11 and 118-110 in the Kiwi’s favour.
Ngannou took to X to mock Wilder, saying: “Licking my lips after watching this fight.”
The Cameroonian heavyweight is rumoured to have held talks with Wilder’s camp over a potential mixed rules fight.
After leaving the UFC Ngannou signed for the Professional Fighters League, whose CEO Peter Murray named Wilder as a future opponent.
He said: “Absolutely, ongoing. I’m going to see Deontay [Wilder] next week and we want the four-ounce gloves on him with Francis in the cage.”

Ngannou hints at AJ fight bid
Francis Ngannou appears to fancy a shot at Anthony Joshua.
The UFC legend, 37, was controversially denied victory over Tyson Fury when losing his boxing debut on points in October.
And he saw Joshua surprise many too – with the style of his five-round victory over Otto Wallin.
Ngannou posted: “Great performance tonight AJ” – adding the hashtag #NgannouJoshua plus a thoughtful emoji face.

    ‘He was s***’
    Derek Chisora, 2023.
Never one to mince his words, Derek Chisora has given his verdict on Daniel Dubois vs Jarrell Miller last night.
He also spoke about his next fight, and not wanting to take on boxers with good records on paper but struggle against ‘real fighters’ such as Miller and Arslanbek Makhmudov.
He told IFL TV: “Jarrell Miller didn’t have a jab at all. He wasn’t jabbing, just walking forward. Daniel realised he had to dig deep, and he went all out — that was beautiful to watch.”
Asked if he fancies a fight against Big Baby Miller, he said: “No. I don’t want that. Daniel already beat him, I want someone who is amazing. I want there to be a fear factor when I walk in the ring.
“I want to be nervous and train harder. Baby Miller hasn’t fought a boxer, he’s knocked out taxi drivers and he’s knocked out nobodies.
“He’s a good salesman, but when they fight a real fighter, they find it hard.
“It’s the same as the Russian [Arslanbek Makhmudov]. Agit Kabayel was amazing but the Russian was s****. He was s****. He got spanked.”
    Usyk revenge?
Anthony Joshua’s trainer Ben Davison has touted Oleksandr Usyk as his preferred opponent. He’s confident that AJ can avenge his defeats in style.
Davison told IFL TV: “AJ executed. He was professional, well prepared.
“He was very professional to work alongside, very enjoyable and I’m pleased that he got the fruits of his labour.
Asked if he was going to be AJ’s trainer going forward, he responded: “Every fight is fight-by-fight with any fighter, so we’ll have to see.”
On Joshua’s next opponent, Davison said: “Just off emotion, I told him that we would like to put the Oleksandr Usyk fight right for him.
“I’m very confident that we could help him do that.”

    ‘It’s been a pleasure’
I mentioned earlier that I thought Deontay Wilder had hinted at retirement after his loss to Joseph Parker. See what you think.
He said: “We have a little bit more left. I’ve done a great job with managing my money and investing. I’m a happy fighter. I’ll be back soon and if not, it’s been a pleasure.
“I’ve found a lot of peace and happiness in my life.
“I’ve been wearing this smile all week long. I’m blessed. I gave it all I’ve got. You can’t quit or give up, you must keep going.”
    Credit: getty
    Fury next
Glad someone is thinking with their head! It’s the one we all want, and it’s the one that has to happen. Lennox Lewis agrees,
But there’s always a catch, and that is providing Tyson beats Oleksandr Usyk in their undisputed battle next year.
“He’s still got to go up against Tyson Fury, I think that’s going to be a great fight.”

    ‘Be on notice’
You heard the man! Eddie Hearn thinks AJ is the best in the world and hints that a title fight is more likely than the battle with Deontay Wilder.
He said: “AJ is back. I believe this Anthony Joshua is the best in the world. He broke Otto Wallin down. He broke his nose. With this mindset and this team, I think he’s unbeatable.
“It’s a tough decision between the championship and Deontay Wilder. We signed for Wilder but he lost tonight. I’m so happy to see him smiling. Every heavyweight should be on notice. He’s back.”

    Fighter of the night?
Oh now that’s a tough call.
It’s got to be between Anthony Joshua, Daniel Dubois, Joseph Parker or Agit Kabayel.
Parker took on the most dangerous opponent and completely nullified his biggest threat, although perhaps Deontay Wilder wasn’t at his best.
Kabayel caused the biggest upset of the night with the bookmakers, winning at around 6/1. He totally outboxed Arslanbek Makhmudov.
Daniel Dubois got the nod from Frank Warren when asked this question, but I doubt you’ll find that too surprising.
But it was just great to see the return of AJ. Back to his ruthless best.
    Credit: getty
Would AJ have retired if he’d lost to Otto Wallin?
Anthony Joshua says theres no chance he would have retired if he’d lost to Otto Wallin, following emphatic victory in Saudi Arabia
    How it unfolded
That was a pretty special night. Here’s the results from the main card

Anthony Joshua def. Otto Wallin via fifth-round KO.
Joseph Parker def. Deontay Wilder via unanimous decision.
Dmitry Bivol def. Lyndon Arthur via unanimous decision.
Daniel Dubois def. Jarrell Miller via 10th-round TKO.
Agit Kabayel def. Arslanbek Makhmudov via fourth-round TKO.
Jai Opetaia def. Ellis Zorro via first-round KO.
Filip Hrgovic def. Mark De Mori via first-round TKO.
Frank Sanchez def. Junior Fa via seventh-round TKO.

    ‘This guy is about championships’
Anthony Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn, speaking to TNT Sports: “I believe this Anthony Joshua is the best heavyweight in the world. That was a punch-perfect performance tonight. A stunning performance. One that says he is back. With this mindset in this team, I think he is unbeatable. 2024 will be massive for him.
“It was a tough decision between the championship and Wilder. We signed for Wilder, he lost tonight, that’s OK, it happens in boxing. Maybe it is a blessing because this guy is about championships. He wants to become a three-time heavyweight world champion. It will be Filip Hrgovic against AJ for the world title.
“I am so happy to see him smiling and performing so well. He is a dangerous man when he is in that kind of mood. 2024 is going to be very interesting, every heavyweight should be on notice – he is back.”
    Credit: GETTY
‘I could rip him apart right now’
Rip him apart verbally, of course. Although…
Anyway, here’s what Anthony Joshua had to say after tonight’s encounter.
Speaking to DAZN, AJ said: “I can’t rate my performance. Ben Davison, my performance team, I’ll leave it up to them.
“Tonight was just another fight. I respect Otto. Not so much a throwback fight, just another day in the office. Victory by any means. Like Otto, you want to do whatever it takes to be victorious. That’s all I want to be.”
Asked about Wilder’s loss, he added: “I wasn’t watching. I just focused on myself. I know how important it was for me. I heard that Deontay lost. So what? He’ll be back. Deontay, everything that he said about me, I could rip him apart right now, but I’m going to take the higher ground.”

BETTING SPECIAL – BEST CASINOS UK
Bronze Bomber gets it all wrong
This fight was all about setting up a showdown with Anthony Joshua.
It seems the ‘Bronze Bomber’ got it all wrong and did not address the elephant in the room first of all, Joseph Parker.
We have never seen such a conservative approach to a fight from Wilder and it cost him dearly.
His tactics worked into Parker’s plans and he delivered.

    Parker shocks the boxing world
Nobody gave Joseph Parker a chance in this fight but he had his tactics perfect and with the approach of Wilder it all fitted into place.
Deontay Wilder seemed to give his opponent too much respect and only started opening up his hands in the final round, when it was all too late.
It is only the third time Wilder has gone the twelve rounds.
Parker worked hard for this fight and now he is reaping his rewards.

Joseph Parker wins by unanimous decision
Deontay Wilder vs Joseph Parker (Round Twelve)
This is the last chance saloon for Deontay Wilder.
Joseph Parker comes forward, looking to take the last round to Wilder.
Wilder is throwing lefts and rights hoping to land something big.
He’s surely left this too late, he swings a massive right but just catches air.
Wilder comes forward with that right hand locked and loaded, Parker comes in with the jab to catch him unawares.
Parker soaks it up for the last thirty seconds and has surely sent shockwaves through the division.
Wilder raises his hand as the bell goes and is celebrating, not sure what fight he has been watching.
    Credit: Getty
Deontay Wilder vs Joseph Parker (Round Eleven)
Parker is two rounds from a huge upset here.
He just needs to manage these last two rounds and expect that big right from Wilder.
Parker is dipping his head to get under it all the time.
He is turning Wilder’s advantage in height and reach into a negative.
The corner of Wilder are trying to get their fighter to up the pace.
Deontay Wilder vs Joseph Parker (Round Ten)
With each round that goes by, more pressure is on Wilder.
He is more than capable of that one shot that could end this.
Wilder catches Parker with a big hook, it’s blocked but Parker still felt it.
Parker needs to keep letting his hands go or he allows Wilder to work a position for that big right.
As Wilder comes in with that big right, Parker manages to get underneath it.
    Credit: AFP
Deontay Wilder vs Joseph Parker (Round Nine)
That last round was the best of the night.
Parker really hurt Wilder and catches him with punches again.
Wilder has no reply and these punches are hurting him.
This is not what anyone was expecting from this fight tonight.
    Parker is controlling this fight.
Deontay Wilder vs Joseph Parker (Round Eight)
The problem Wilder has now is that Parker could lose the rest of the rounds left and still win this fight.
All he needs to look out for is being hit with that big Wilder right.
In reality, that is all Wilder has now to win this fight.
The danger is the rounds are running out for Deontay Wilder.
When he does come through and land, Parker counters and hits him with a big shot too.
Towards the end of the round, Parker lands punch after punch and has Wilder in the corner, his legs are gone.
The bell saves him on this occasion.
Deontay Wilder vs Joseph Parker (Round Seven)
Due to his size, when Parker comes inside he gets Wilder all wrapped up on the ropes.
Wilder needs space to get those long arms mobile.
It ‘s a good tactic by Parker is certainly working so far.
Wilder comes in and goes with the big right but it goes straight over the top of Parker.
That was more like the Deontay Wilder we are used to.
Parker then lands a big right and Wilder stumbles back a little bit.
    Credit: Getty
Deontay Wilder vs Joseph Parker (Round Six)
The message from Parker’s corner must be to keep doing what you are.
Wilder is banking on getting something special to win this.
Parker meanwhile, is landing some good combos.
The fans ringside are loving it when Parker opens up and comes inside to force Wilder back onto the ropes.
He is trying throw an overhand right and it is getting closer to connecting with Wilder.
The more he hits Wilder, he goes a bit reckless on the counter.
Deontay Wilder vs Joseph Parker (Round Five)
The pundits have this four rounds to none for Parker.
He comes forward again and lands punches as Wilder is forced on the backfoot.
This waiting game of Wilder’s is not working and just allowing Parker to dictate this fight.
Parker continues to land the shots, all scoring on the card.
Wilder is only looking for a knockout here and is definitely not concerning himself with all these rounds he is losing.
Deontay Wilder vs Joseph Parker (Round Four)
    Finally this fight opens up.
Parker comes inside and lands a combo and Wilder reacts in kind throwing some big punches.
It looks like he felt Parker’s hits and it made him think he needs to up his game or he could get hurt here.
Joseph Parker is growing in confidence seeing his punches get through.
He comes forward once again, pinning Wilder back onto the ropes.
    Parker definitely took that round.
    Credit: Getty
Deontay Wilder vs Joseph Parker (Round Three)
Parker seems set to come inside and if he does not connect he is looking smother Wilder so he cannot get big hits off.
Wilder starts coming forward with jab.
Parker goes for the big shot over the top but does not connect.
Deontay Wilder starts to open up a bit more towards the end of the round.
Joseph Parker lands a good right just before the bell.
Deontay Wilder vs Joseph Parker (Round Two)
Parker comes in with a jab to the body.
Wilder is staying back, biding his time, trying to work Parker out.
It seems weird not seeing the high tempo, let’s get this done approach from Wilder.
As Parker comes in close, Wilder looks to get some hits in, both to the body.
That is the danger of Parker looking to come inside, but something he has to do as Wilder has the longer reach of the two boxers by some distance.
Deontay Wilder vs Joseph Parker (Round One)
Parker looks to hold the middle of the ring.
He is more than aware of the danger of Wilder’s big hits.
It is all pretty cagey in the opening round, Parker comes in going for the hit over the top but Wilder dodges it.
This is very much two boxers feeling each other out here.
    Credit: Getty
    Deontay Wilder vs Joseph Parker
This is the one many have been waiting for.
Parker will have to deal with raw power of the ‘bomb squad’.
Friend of Tyson Fury, Parker will have had some advice from him.
    Glitz and glamour lies ahead
We are heading towards to the big ticket fights now.
Two fights left now, Anthony Joshua vs Otto Wallin and Deontay Wilder vs Joseph Parker.
We have some good boxing so far this evening but these co-main events are the money-makers we have been waiting for.
Bivol wants to unify division in 2024
With Saudi Arabia looking to get all the big fight, Dmitry Bivol says that now he has two belts, he wants the third.
He now holds both the IBO and WBA Super World Light Heavyweight titles.
Eddie Hearn said it is the next natural fight for Bivol and he will be looking to make that happen.
You could see how much it meant to Bivol to have that second belt draped over him.
    Credit: Getty
Dmitry Bivol wins by unanimous decision
Dmitry Bivol vs Lyndon Arthur (Round Twelve)
Dmitry Bivol starts the round in positive fashion.
Landing a flurry of shots with no reply from Arthur.
The referee is in there keeping a close eye.
That was some great boxing by Bivol unloading his hands finally.
It is all over, Arthur has made it to the end of the fight.
A very one-sided performance but the Brit has gone up against one of the best pound for pound boxers in the game here.
Dmitry Bivol vs Lyndon Arthur (Round Eleven)
Bivol keeps up with his technical boxing, controlling this bout.
He knows if he opens up too freely, Arthur could counter and land something.
Dmitry Bivol just seems to be going through the motions, knowing he controlling this fight.
He finally sends Arthur to the canvas with a big body shot.
    Credit: Reuters
Dmitry Bivol vs Lyndon Arthur (Round Ten)
You have to wonder whether Arthur is just looking to go the distance.
Going twelve rounds with the defending champion may look good on his resume.
It can be misleading though if there is no attacking boxing and just you being used as a walking, talking punchbag for the duration.
Dmitry Bivol almost seems content to continue with his patient style taking this to a unanimous decision.
The champ keeps landing jabs but they are never going to knock someone down at this level.
Dmitry Bivol vs Lyndon Arthur (Round Nine)
All these punches are wearing down Lyndon Arthur.
Dmitry Bivol is trying to work the body more to open up his guard.
When he gets him on the ropes, he is unloading the combinations.
Often he gets too close and gives himself no room to fire off the big hits.
Dmitry Bivol vs Lyndon Arthur (Round Eight)
As it stands, Arthur’s only hope in this fight is a sucker punch.
Bivol still bides his time, trying to draw a boxer in who is not looking to attack.
Dmitry Bivol needs to stamp his authority on this fight more.
There is no doubt he is going to keep his title but people will analyse how he has not put this guy down.
Arthur landed a good body shot in that round which Bivol definitely seemed to feel.
Much better round for Arthur, even got a two punch combo through.
Dmitry Bivol vs Lyndon Arthur (Round Seven)
We will get to a stage here where Bivol just wants to get this done.
It will not look good on his resume somebody who is not looking to win a fight taking him the distance.
Bivol is mixing it up, trying to break through Arthur’s defence.
Pushing him up against the ropes, throwing big hooks, trying to get one through. More

Anthony Joshua vs Otto Wallin LIVE RESULT: Latest updates from HUGE Saudi fight card – start time, stream, TV channel

ANTHONY JOSHUA is facing tricky southpaw Otto Wallin TONIGHT to top a huge fight night in Saudi Arabia – and there’s not long now to wait! Wallin famously gave Tyson Fury an almighty scare back in 2019 when the Gypsy King was making his boxing comeback.
And there has been a huge shock on the undercard so far, with Daniel Dubois stopping Jarrell Miller in the dying seconds of their thriller.

BETTING SPECIAL – GET AJ TO WIN AT 35/1 WITH BETFAIR
Follow ALL of the latest updates below…
‘I stayed calm, relaxed, stayed focused’
Joseph Parker, speaking to DAZN: “I have a lot of respect for Wilder but we trained very hard for this. Everyone had other plans but this is God’s plan.
“I was really fit. I stayed calm, relaxed, stayed focused. There’s always things to work on but I got the win. Merry Christmas to us.
“He did catch me a few times on the guard and it’s very hard. If it landed clean then it could be a different story. Working with Andy and George and not getting out of shape was important.
“This is massive and the best opponent I’ve ever faced. Tyson Fury gave us his time with sparring and was massively important.”
    Credit: getty
    The main event
One fight remaining, and it’s the big one! Anthony Joshua returns to the ring against Otto Wallin at the Kingdom Arena. Standby.
    That winning moment
Joseph Parker celebrates as he claims shock victory over Deontay Wilder on Day of Reckoning undercard
    ‘Did a great job’
“No excuses tonight,” says Deontay Wilder. That retreat he went on clearly works because he’s showing great humility and leaves with high spirits.
Really was quite strange that interview. One commentator called him ‘delusional’ for being happy and thinking he did enough to win the right despite losing every round. Another said he’s ‘content’ after hearing him speak about how well he’s invested his money.
I’m really not sure we’ll be seeing him in the ring again.
    Parker reacts
“Everyone had plans, other plans, but this is God’s plan,” says Joseph Parker, who’s kind of an expert in winning with humility. The kind of guy that knocks you down and takes you to the hospital.
Parker clearly referring to the planning of Deontay Wilder vs Anthony Joshua next March. Everyone suggesting the fight was done and dusted, but he’s now thrown a huge spanner in the works.

Joseph Parker beats Deontay Wilder on points
118-111, 118-110, 120-108 to Joseph Parker. It’s a unanimous decision and it righty goes the way of the Kiwi.
Deontay Wilder shook his head a bit, but didn’t look too shocked by that. Perhaps that fist in the air was an attempt to sway the minds of the judges. Who knows.
    Credit: getty
    Deontay Wilder vs Joseph Parker
I’d be stunned if this is anything other than a unanimous points victory for Joseph Parker. Still waiting on that decision…
Deontay Wilder vs Joseph Parker – Round 12
Deontay Wilder is warned for a couple of hammer punches to the back of Joseph Parker’s head during the clinch. That’s desperate stuff from the American.
More desperate stuff as he wildly swings like a punter at last orders. Must have missed by two feet with that one.
Parker making sure he clinches and stays there for as long as humanly possible. He does look tired though with 60 seconds left on the clock. Can he see this out?!
Ding ding! That’s it folks. The bell rings and there are celebrations in the ring.
However, those celebrations are coming from both camps. Wilder is pumping his fist and playing to the crowd — does he really think he’s won that?
    It goes to the judges.
    Credit: getty
Deontay Wilder vs Joseph Parker – Round 11
Joseph Parker doesn’t look to be troubled by anything Deontay Wilder is throwing. Didn’t think I would be writing that tonight.
Parker just has to avoid doing anything silly. He’s done the hard yards, now just see it home.
And he certainly does that in Round 11. Wilder is aimlessly throwing wild shots but nothing has landed. Parker is three minutes away from perhaps the biggest scalp of his career.
Deontay Wilder vs Joseph Parker – Round 10
Deontay Wilder now 6/1 to win this with two rounds remaining. It’s not exactly a secret, but he’s going to need a knockout to win this one.
44/17 punch count in favour of Joseph Parker to this point. I was expecting a big surge from the American in this round but he’s blowing a bit. Nothing of much note in that round.
Deontay Wilder vs Joseph Parker – Round 9
Deontay Wilder’s knees keep locking. He’s on borrowed time here but Joseph Parker is staying disciplined. Just the occasional leading right to keep his opponent on the back foot.
Not 100% sure what Joe Parker is waiting for though. Surely this is his moment? Wilder started to find his feet in the final 20 seconds and let off some vicious looking swings that didn’t connect.
“Let’s do this,” Wilder says in his corner. That sounded ominous.
Deontay Wilder vs Joseph Parker – Round 8
Hold on a minute. What happens if Deontay Wilder and Anthony Joshua both lose tonight? Does that mean we’re getting Joseph Parker vs Otto Wallin in March instead?
WOW! Parker with an incredible attack! The Kiwi fires one off one of those overhand rights that leaves Wilder wobbling on already shaken legs. He senses his moment and follows with a flurry of punches. He went hell for leather to get the finish – but the bell saves Wilder.
    Will this last another round?!
Deontay Wilder vs Joseph Parker – Round 7
There were just a few signs that Deontay Wilder would let his hands go towards the end of that last round. He did not kick on.
It feels dangerous to say because he can end this in an instant, but he’s looking every bit a 38-year-old heavyweight who’s fought once in 18 months right now.
Huge hit from Parker! Wilder leaves himself wide open, and the Kiwi lands a heavy looping overhand right to the chin of his opponent. The American takes it well enough but his return fire is miles off the target.
Deontay Wilder vs Joseph Parker – Round 6
Jab up, jab down. Nothing groundbreaking from Joseph Parker but it’s a heck of a lot more than Deontay Wilder’s doing.
Just hearing the commentator asking what’s Plan B for Wilder.
Plan B? Plan B is Plan A and that’s it!
Deontay Wilder vs Joseph Parker – Round 5
Most seem to have Joseph Parker winning every round until this point. Deontay Wilder seems to just be avoiding conflict and not engaging with anything of his own.
He’s waiting for the ideal moment, but what happens if it never arrives?
Parker continues to dominate the middle of the ring and clips the American with a cracking snapshot on the cheek.
Another round in the bank for Parker.
Of course, Deontay Wilder doesn’t fight to win rounds. He lost virtually every minute of that clash with Luis Ortiz before doing the business. Parker has to be perfect, Wilder just needs that one golden moment.

Deontay Wilder vs Joseph Parker – Round 4
Joseph Parker decides he’s fed up of the cautious stuff and lands a lovely combination. He’s closing the gap slightly now and looking for the right hand.
Deontay Wilder’s timing is well off as he looks to return, but he’s throwing a few more jabs to find it, as well as the distance.
Parker attacks like a sprinter in the dying seconds of the round with a few attempted power shots. The Kiwi fancies this. He likes his chances.
Deontay Wilder vs Joseph Parker – Round 3
It’s actually quite strange to see Deontay Wilder being so cautious. Almost more worrying that he’s waiting for something — some chink that he’s seen in Joseph Parker’s armour.
    Another fairly uneventful round passes.
Deontay Wilder vs Joseph Parker – Round 2
Joseph Parker straight out with a jab to the stomach. Nothing too damaging but with Deontay Wilder having thrown nothing – it could be crucial to winning the round on the judges scorecards.
Neither fighter is prepared to close the gap, just the occasional dip in to throw a straight one. You get the sense viewers are starting to wonder what they signed up for, but I’m sure there’s fireworks to come.
How about that then, boos and jeers at the end of the round. “You’ve got two rounds in the bag,” says Joseph Parker’s trainer in the corner.
Deontay Wilder vs Joseph Parker – Round 1
Joseph Parker’s trainer Andy Lee has been saying all week that they are going to fight fire with fire.
Deontay Wilder responded by telling Parker to bring a pillow and blanket, because he’s getting put to sleep.
And has there been any fireworks in Round 1?
Nope. It’s a feeling out process. Parker staying well away from that thunderous right hand as Wilder sidesteps his way around the ring, stalking his opponent and waiting for his moment.
    Deontay Wilder vs Joseph Parker
He’s just a scary bloke. Deontay Wilder punches like a horse kicks, and Robert Helenius can testify to that when being KO’d in the first round during their clash back in October 2022.
But… he is 38. He’s fought once since that defeat to Tyson Fury in 2021. Could he be vulnerable to a more technical and in-form Parker?
They really are trying to ramp up the atmosphere inside the stadium, but it’s not quite there. Certainly not what you would expect of a card of this magnitude.
    Deontay Wilder vs Joseph Parker
The pair are making their way to the ring now.
Joseph Parker enters first to a tune I’ve not heard before and don’t particularly care for.
And here comes Wilder. No suit weighing him down this time, but he IS wearing a crown. I’m not going to argue with him about that.
    Deontay Wilder vs Joseph Parker
Former WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder vs former WBO heavyweight champion Joseph Parker.
It seems to be everyone’s ‘big tip’ for an upset tonight with Parker available at 9/2 to clinch a victory, and in doing so spoil that big AJ fight in March.
    It’s understandable.
Parker has won three fights on the bounce since his loss to Joe Joyce, and his work with trainer Andy Lee seems to be having a really positive effect. We saw that with his KO win over Simon Kean back in October.
But, as ever, he’s in there with the most devastating puncher in boxing history.

    Surprise
Frank Warren thinks we could see a couple of upsets in the last two fights. And I’m certain he’s not just saying that to boost PPV numbers.
He said: “Wallin seems very confident, quietly confident, and AJ does as well.
“For AJ, this is make or break and I’m not being critical or anything, but it’s about what does he have left in the tank, what has he got, can he get himself a seat at the table this year.
“And the same goes for Wilder, he has been out for two years, he’s had one fight in between which was a one rounder, Joe Parker had a really good win last time out.
“So, these are really going to be competitive fights, they certainly are on paper.”
I have been taking a psychedelic South American drug
No, I’m not confessing to that. That’s private.
But the ‘Bronze Bomber’ has preparing for Saudi Arabian debut against former world champion Joseph Parker in a rather alternative fashion.
Wilder has been working on self-improvement through psychedelic medicines in a certified centre in Costa Rica.
He said the ayahuasca retreat has made him “one of the happiest men alive” and “more sensitive”.
“Ah man, ayahuasca has been… man it’s been one of the top things in my life that I’m glad that I’ve experienced,” Wilder said.
“One of the best journeys to experience, it’s been a beautiful thing for me and if you ask my wife she’ll say that it made me more sensitive, and she’s probably right, but it also made me happier as well.”
How much is said retreat? Asking for a friend.

    It’s signed
    It’s not signed.
Heavyweight rivals Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder were reportedly said to have agreed a two-fight deal to face each other, according to boxing correspondent Dan Rafael.
The clash was supposed to take place on March 9, and still might providing they both come through their contests unscathed.
But it ain’t done until it’s done. More

German with some big choices to make
Jurgen Klopp will be without Stefan Bajcetic, Thiago Alcantara, Joel Matip, Andrew Robertson, Alexis Mac Allister, Diogo Jota and Ben Doak who all still reside in the Anfield treatment room.
Ryan Gravenberch is expected to return to the squad after having a muscle strain against Man Utd last weekend, after fears he had damaged his hamstring proved to be not the case.
Following their dominant win over West Ham in the Carabao Cup, the Dutchman is likely to be on the bench due to the form of Curtis Jones and Dominik Szoboszlai.
    Predicted Arsenal XI
And we reckon Mikel Arteta will stick to his guns for Arsenal’s biggest game of the season yet.

    Predicted Liverpool XI
Here’s how we think Liverpool will line up today…

    Klopp on Anfield atmopshere
Jurgen Klopp has urged Liverpool fans to get behind their team more than ever today…
He said: “I have to say – it’s long ago that I said this – but I thought the first half a little bit, when the boys played really exceptional, I was not overly happy, I have to say, with the atmosphere behind me,” said the German.
“I don’t know. I don’t ask people, what do we want? We changed a lot of things. We dominated West Ham like crazy. We missed chances. And I mean, if I would be in the stand I would be on my toes, 1,000 per cent.
“I don’t know if the Man United game was that bad that we have to say, ‘oh sorry that we didn’t smash them’.
“We need Anfield on Saturday. Without Anfield, I would say – after they (Arsenal) didn’t play this week, they prepare for this game and anyone who knows a little bit about them, they will be prepared.
“So, we need Anfield on their toes from the first second without me having an argument with the opposition coach. We need you from the first second.
“If you really want, if it’s too much football in December, I don’t know. Sorry we have to play it as well. But if you are not in the right shape, give your ticket to somebody else.”

    Welcome to Liverpool vs Arsenal!
Hello and welcome to SunSport’s live coverage of Liverpool vs Arsenal in the Premier League.
Both Mikel Arteta and Jurgen Klopp will be eyeing that Christmas No 1 spot at the top of the table in what should be a serious cracker at Anfield.
Arsenal will remember their 2-2 draw here last year, having led 2-0 with the game in total control to begin with.
That draw ultimately led them into a downturn in form and further draws with West Ham and Southampton ultimately handed the title to Man City.
Tonight they’ll be out for revenge at one of the hardest grounds to get a result in the country.
But Liverpool are coming off the back of their 0-0 draw with Man Utd and they’ll be desperate to get a big result at home.
So sit back and enjoy all the action, we’ll have you covered throughout the evening. More
