Sadly for Sylvinho, he was right.
The Albania boss had suggested Spain’s second team are good enough to win Euro 2024.
But what will really worry the rest is that the first choice 11 is a street ahead of the reserves.
And they are the ones who will play the rest of the tournament.
In Dusseldorf, Luis de la Fuente’s shadow side clipped the Eagles’ wings to send Albanian home and make it three wins out of three.

This is how Group B has finished tonight.
Italy are into the last 16 as runners-up, and Croatia are very likely to go out after Mattia Zaccagni’s 98th-minute equaliser. 88: Some anxious Albanians in the crowd. Not entirely sure why. They are heading out and it’s not really looking like that’ll change in these final stages. They win a free-kick near the left touchline and load the box with only four players?! Don’t understand it myself. The ball goes out of play.
Berisha is booked for a high arm. Play is also suspended while a fan runs onto the pitch to try and grab a selfie with someone. Jermaine Jenas on commentary suggests getting the stewards some studs…

85: Alex Baena replaces Dani Olmo. Most assists in LaLiga last season with 14 for Baena. You’ve been warned.

83: Oh behave, Lamine Yamal. The 16-year-old brings the ball down from the sky and skips past two Albanian defenders in the same motion. Shame about the next bit but you’ll be seeing that in YouTube highlights packages for years to come.

78: It’s got a bit of Hungary vs Scotland about it now, albeit Spain have far more control. Albania are finally committing more bodies forward with Kristjan Asllani firing just wide of the target. Does feel like we’ll see at least one more goal here.

73: Where’s this Albania been all night? Kristjan Asllani drills a speculative one from distance that David Raya simply falls on.
Manager Luis de la Fuente looks to remedy the situation by throwing on Lamine Yamal and Alvaro Morata. Not a bad bench to turn to, eh?
Laci and Bajrami are off for Hoxha and Muci for Albania.

68: And now a corner for Albania. There’s way too much on it and it bounces near the opposite corner flag. Signs of life here folks. Signs of life.
Too many signs of life from Nedim Bajrami, who tries to buy a free-kick near the penalty area. He’s booked.
    Copy linkCopiedALBANIA 0-1 SPAIN
65: I suppose it’s all well and good your fans urging you to go forward, but this is just so difficult for these Albanian players. It’s hard enough for them to wrestle the ball back let alone go on and score twice.
Armando Broja shuts me up immediately with a fierce strike from distance that David Raya palms away. Albania have to build on that.

63: Chelsea’s Armando Broja replaces Rey Manaj. Sylvinho had to do something because Spain are knocking it around for fun. Fermin Lopez comes on for Mikel Oyarzabal, who was my disastrous tip for Spain top scorer at 12/1. Never again.
    Copy linkCopiedALBANIA 0-1 SPAIN
60: The Albania supporters have caught wind of that Croatia goal. They cheer and celebrate because if they win, Italy will be dumped out of the competition.
So as things stand Croatia are through in second place behind Spain and Italy have to hope three points is enough to take them through as one of the best third-placed teams.

57: Folks, I have news from the Croatia vs Italy game.
Croatia have themselves a penalty after the ball struck Davide Frattesi’s arm. After all the usual VAR stuff, Luka Modric sees his penalty saved by Gianluigi Donnarumma.
But hold on… seconds later Modric makes amends when thumping home from close distance. That certainly puts the cats amongst the pigeons.

54: Oh we’ve got a booking. And it’s for… Albania manager Sylvinho. The Brazilian tactician barely takes notice and continues his anger towards the fourth official. Not entirely sure what he’s mad about in all honesty.

There is never a sight more downbeat than a player on the losing team being awarded the man of the match award.
Luke Modric looked as though he wanted to be anywhere but on that pitch as Croatia try to deal with Euro 2024 heartache.
While there is still a very slim chance they could progress as one of third placed teams, with a measly two points, it seems unlikely.

The Azzurri will now face Switzerland in the ’round of 16′.
During the group stages they won one game, lost another and today’s draw in the final match seals their progress.
Luciano Spalletti knows they will have to raise their game to go further in the tournament but for today it is mission accomplished with Spain having already qualified from Group B.

What a difference a minute can make in football.
It seemed as though Italy were going to be left with egg on their face as Croatia headed towards victory.
They capitalised on some poor defending from their opponents and took their chance with almost the last kick of the game.
As the final whistle blew, you could see just how much this meant to those players and their manager.

He gave it his all in this game and was integral in Croatia getting the goal that seemed to be sending them towards victory.
Modric became the oldest player to score in the Euro finals this evening but you can see the dejection on his face at the final whistle.
Croatia just could not see the game out and now look unlikely to progress to the next phase.

Croatia had a big chance there to book their place in the next round.
They paid the price for gifting away possession so late in the game.
It was a sublime goal by Zaccagni and ensures the holders are through to the next round.

Once again Croatia are robbed by a late goal.
The players look dejected out there, knowing that this probably signals their departure from the tournament.
Spalletti was running down the touchline as that goal nestled in the back of the net.

90+8. Just as Croatia had an opportunity to keep the ball in the corner of the Italian half, they give the ball away.
Italy come forward and the ball is played into the path of Zaccagni who bends it into the far corner.
If it stays like this, Italy will take second place in the group.

90+4. Croatia are passing the ball around trying to retain possession.
As the clock ticks down they know this will just frustrate their opponents more.
Calafiori was shown a yellow card for a challenge and will miss the next game.

90+2. Scamacca has a shot from distance but it deflects wide for an Italian corner.
As the cross comes in, it is well dealt with by the Croatian defence.
More importantly, they are able to hold onto the ball and draw a foul to run the clock down further.

    90. There are some tired Croatian legs out there now.

A teasing ball across the six yard box but Scamacca just could not get the required touch to it.

    86. The Italians certainly know how to milk a foul.
While in many cases you cannot deny contact, it certainly isn’t enough for them to be rolling around like they have stepped in a bear trap.
Time is starting to run out for Luciano Spalletti’s side.

    84. Should the unthinkable happen and Albania get two late goals, Italy would be heading out of Euro 2024.
Croatia are starting to put some pressure on The Azzurri again.
A second goal for the Croats would surely seal victory.
    Copy linkCopiedCroatia 1-0 Italy
    82. Fagioli is coming on for Jorginho.
Both managers are looking to get some fresh legs on the pitch for the final push of this game.
Stanisic is shown a yellow card for a foul although it seemed the Italian made a meal of it.

    80. Brozovic plays a sublime ball into the box.
Bastoni does brilliantly to get there first and head out for a throw in.
If he had not, it seemed a Croatian goal was certain.
Modric is coming off for Majer.
    Copy linkCopiedCroatia 1-0 Italy
    78. Pongracic is shown a yellow card for a foul.
Croatia need to be wary now not to lunge in with the challenges as the last thing they want to do is go down to ten men.
This game is still finely poised with time starting to run out for Italy.

    74. Croatia are having to withstand a lot of pressure now.
They need to try and control the ball for a spell to give their defence a breather.
It almost seems that the Croatians are looking to hold onto what they have now.
    Copy linkCopiedCroatia 1-0 Italy
    72. Italy have a free kick in a dangerous position outside the box.
The Azzurri have plenty of options for who is going to take this.
Raspadori strikes it but it deflects off the wall and over the crossbar.
    Copy linkCopiedCroatia 1-0 Italy
    70. As balls are played into the box, Croatia are starting to snatch at their clearances with no intention of retaining the ball.
Susic is coming off for Perisic now.
Zlatko Dalic is looking to get all his experience out on the pitch.
That said, he is also bringing off Kovacic for Ivanusec.
    Copy linkCopiedCroatia 1-0 Italy
    68. Italy are starting to ask questions of the Croatian defence.
Croatia just cannot get out of their own half currently.
The Azzurri seem to have taken it up a gear now.
    Copy linkCopiedCroatia 1-0 Italy
    66. Italy try to thread passes through the Croatian defence.
The ricochet favours the Croats as it runs harmlessly through to the keeper.
That goal was just what this game needed.

    Copy linkCopiedCroatia 1-0 Italy
    64. The pressure is really on Italy now.
Although they may still qualify, they would have a much tougher game in the knockout phase.
Croatia will just look to pick them off on the break now as they throw more players forward.

Hungary’s man of the match Roland Sallai recalled the ‘terrible moment’ suffered by teammate Barnabas Varga.
“It was terrible, it was a terrible moment,” he said.
“Fortunately he’s in a much better condition, he’s going to have to go for a minor operation probably, but he’s in a much better condition.
“We cross our fingers that he can return quickly.”

THE BBC apologised for showing a replay of Barnabas Varga’s shocking injury during Scotland’s defeat to Hungary.
The striker was rushed to hospital following a clash with Scotland goalkeeper Angus Gunn.
He received lengthy medical treatment on the pitch as the BBC attempted to avoid showing a replay of the incident.
Uefa decided to show a replay of the incident so the BBC cut away to a wide angle out of respect for the stricken player.
BBC presenter Gabby Logan explained Uefa broke their own protocol by showing the replay.
She said live on air: “We were as shocked as you when they replayed that incident.
“There are protocols around this kind of thing after Christian Eriksen three years ago and we were very surprised that Uefa decided to show that replay, which is why we cut away immediately to a wide angle as soon as we could.”

Barnabas Varga’s domestic club, Hungarian giants Ferencvaros, have taken to Twitter to inform followers that the striker is stable in a Stuttgart hospital.
Meanwhile, Hungary captain Dominik Szoboszlai was pictured at full time wearing Vargas’ shirt as a tribute to their injured teammate.

Hungary’s goal scored by Kevin Csoboth in the 100th minute of the match was the latest ever in normal time of a European Championship match (timed at 99 minutes and 32 seconds).
The Scots had just 17 shots in total at Euro 2024. Since the group stage was introduced in 1980, that is the joint-fewest by a nation in the groups along with Northern Ireland at Euro 2016.

The BBC have just announced that a statement from the Hungarian camp reveals that Barnabas Varga is conscious and stable in a Stuttgart hospital.
The forward was stretchered off in the second half amid worrying scenes following a collision inside the Scotland penalty area.
The Hungarian players created a human shield around the stricken striker at the time, and were then quick to pay tribute to him following Kevin Csoboth’s goal deep into stoppage time.

Stoppage time goals in both games this evening mean that Germany win Group A and Scotland crash out by finishing bottom.

Scotland are beaten. Scotland are out. Scotland are heartbroken.
The final whistle is blown on Scotland’s summer, and they have come up short.
Beaten agonisingly in the final seconds, Steve Clarke’s side have finished bottom of Group A behind Germany, Switzerland and tonight’s victors Hungary.
It could have all been so different if Stuart Armstrong had been awarded a second half penalty, but in the end the toothless Scots were undone by devastating counter-attack.

90+10. Scotland lose it right at the death!
With the seconds running down, the Scots win a corner and know it is their final chance.
The delivery from the left falls inside the area at the feet of Callum McGregor, who winds up for a shot that is magnificently blocked.
And then suddenly Hungary are away.
A brilliant ball right by Dominik Szoboszlai to Rollan Sallia – who looks offside – is taken to the byline, and then pulled back beautifully for substitute Kevin Csoboth to stroke home.
Wild celebrations at one end. Hearbreak and despair at the other.
