GARY LINEKER broke down in tears at the end of his very last Match of the Day after quitting the BBC following an explosive anti-Semitism row.And the ex-footballer also made a cheeky dig at the BBC in his opening address. He began with: “It wasn’t meant to end this way.”He paused for a second, before continuing: “But with the title race over and the relegation places confirmed, the Champions League was all we had left to talk about.”The ex-Leicester and England forward’s departure comes five days after he apologised for sharing a controversial post that caused him huge backlash. And MOTD’s highest-paid presenter, reportedly at £1.35million a year has revealed that he will not front BBC’s World Cup coverage either.A statement from Lineker read: “I care deeply about the game, and about the work I’ve done with the BBC over many years. As I’ve said, I would never consciously repost anything anti-Semitic – it goes against everything I stand for.”However, I recognise the error and upset that I caused, and reiterate how sorry I am. quite close to comparing the ex-England striker to… Jeremy Clarkson! The fan posted: “Genuinely can’t see the next crop of ‘lead presenters’ holding the fort for too long, as good as they are as broadcasters/presenters, it all feels very Top Gear 2016.”Copy linkCopiedLineker says Bowen snub ‘unfortunate’After Jarrod Bowen fired a stunner for West Ham, Lineker gives his verdict on the winger slump from 1-0 up to 4-1 down at home to Brighton as they finished fourth bottom.Asked to sum up the season, straight-faced Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou called it “outstanding”.He then explained: “We won a trophy after 17 years and qualified for the Champions League.”Lineker asks the panel if they think Postecolgou will still be boss next season.Shearer says no, but Richards is just as quick to say yes.Copy linkCopiedSlot hails Lineker – but did he forget name of the show?Lineker interviewed Arne Slot – and the Liverpool boss couldn’t resist a fulsome tribute. But Slot seemed to hesitate and stumble when it came to mentioning Match of the Day.Is it possible he suddenly couldn’t remember the name of the show?!The smiling Dutchman made a cheeky reference to Lineker’s spell at Liverpool’s rivals Everton – with an offer of a Reds shirt.Slot began the chat by revealing he is busy with transfer plans, even claiming: “This is the most important part of the season for getting the squad you want.”And he then launched his words of praise for Lineker.HERE’S WHAT HE SAID:And thank you for being such a great host of a BBC show I’ve watched many times.I’d like to give you a Liverpool shirt instead of the other club you played for!Copy linkCopiedReady for a party?MOTD is off to Anfield now – to look back at how Liverpool celebrated their title success on the day they F1 Monaco GP LIVE RESULTS: Norris fights off Leclerc to WIN thrilling race, Hamilton finishes in 5th – updates

LANDO NORRIS has raced to victory at the Monaco Grand Prix after holding off Ferrari star Charles Leclerc! The McLaren driver is chasing down Championship-leading teammate Oscar Piastri – and a win today has seen him significantly close the gap.Lewis Hamilton started the day down in seventh after picking up a penalty and could only secure a 5th place finish by the end of the race. But one of the main talking points will be about Pierre Gasly who was forced into a pit lane after losing his BRAKES in scary circumstances.PODIUM: Norris(1) Leclerc(2) Piastri(3)Follow our live blog His highs have been really high and he’s shown a performance at the highest level that’s almost unplayable. “His ceiling is top, of course, he’s a young player learning all the time, still got a lot to improve to do his best consistently is natural for a lot of young players. His ceiling is really high, we’ll see what the summer brings. “He’s been good to work with and a great signing for the club. What happens in the summer will happen and if he’s not here, it will be with all our best wishes and we will be following his career.”Copy linkCopiedPostecoglou pleads for Romero stayGiven Atletico Madrid’s interest, Ange Postecoglou claims it is “no-brainer” for Tottenham to retain onto Cristian Romero this summer.Romero’s statement in an interview with Argentine media a few months ago that he would love to play in La Liga raised questions about his future with Spurs. However, with two years remaining on his contract, Postecoglou hopes the Argentina defender may be persuaded to remain in north London after the Europa League victory guaranteed their spot in the Champions League for the upcoming season.“It’s very important to keep Cuti Romero and for the long term,” said under fire Postecoglou. “For me it’s a no-brainer with players like him. If he goes who do you replace him with? There aren’t a lot of players out there like him. “Romero is absolutely important to keep at this football club. You just saw the way he’s been in recent games and he hasn’t been entirely fit with his toe. The lads respect him highly.”Copy linkCopied’I’m grateful for those departing’ – Pereira After several Wolves players bid farewell in the locker room after a 1-1 draw with Brentford on the final day of the season, Wolves manager Vitor Pereira acknowledged that he felt upset.Following the game, Nelson Semedo and Matheus Cunha approached the Sir Jack Hayward stand with what appeared to be their final farewells to the fans as the players entered the field with their families.Cunha has been linked to a transfer to Manchester United, while Semedo is out of contract and has not yet accepted a four-year offer on the table. Pereira said: “This is a group of players, maybe the best group that I worked with until now. We don’t know if the players that will leave, maybe some of them will leave but we want to keep the base. Maybe the last game from some of them.“We start to speak, the emotions come. I cannot leave my players without a big hug before the holidays.“You saw the same (Cunha saying goodbye), Nelson too. I don’t know. But what is important, and what I said to them I will keep them in my heart and wish them the best.“Sometimes in our life we need to make decisions, if they decide for another way I wish them the best and will keep them in my heart and I’m very grateful for what they did in the last months.”Copy linkCopiedRaya ‘more settled’ at Arsenal after back-to-back winAnd from Raya, who is the first Arsenal goalkeeper to achieve back-to-back awards… Golden Glove winner David Raya post-match: “I’m very pleased with my individual season. I stepped up my game from last year to this year, being a bit more settled into this amazing club. I’m just trying to do my job and help the team as much as possible.”On the win over Southampton and Arsenal’s season: “Three points was the main thing. I don’t think the performance was the best. You could tell we were tired and lack a bit of rhythm, but we got over the line. That’s the most important thing.”We know that there were some times [this season] where we conceded goals when we shouldn’t have, dropped points when we shouldn’t have. That’s part of football and something we need to learn. We need to see games out sometimes.”Copy linkCopiedGolden Glove winners speak This season’s golden glove was commendably shared by David Raya and Matz Sels with 13 clean sheets each. Nottingham Forest goalkeeper and Golden Glove winner Matz Sels, speaking to Sky Sports: “It’s a big achievement so I’m really happy but not only for me but for the team. It means we had a great season, almost the whole season on a Champions League spot. Sadly we couldn’t finish it today but we need to be proud of the season we’ve had. We will play in Europe.”When I came last year, I came in a difficult situation. This kind of achievement is always from the team. Premier League final day LIVE SCORES: Man City AHEAD, Villa down to TEN, Forest holding Chelsea, Newcastle level

THE final day of the Premier League is here, and the action is UNDERWAY around the Premier League!Manchester City took the first step towards the Champions League, with Gundogan scoring an acrobatic effort to put Guardiola’s side ahead.Newcastle, Chelsea and Nottingham Forest are all level, with the Blues and Forest taking on each other at the City Ground.Aston Villa have a big task ahead of them in the second 45 minutes, as Emi Martinez was shown red for a last ditch challenge on Rasmus Hojlund at Old Trafford. The top seven are guaranteed to be playing European football next season, but there is a scenario that eighth could also join, which Brighton and Brentford are battling for.Elsewhere, Trent Alexander-Arnold is on the bench in his final Liverpool appearance, as the side will lift the Premier League trophy against FA Cup winners Crystal Palace TODAY.Kick off times: 4pm BSTTV channels: Sky Sports Premier League and Sky Sports Main EventLive streams: NOW TVCASINO SPECIAL – BEST CASINO BONUSES FROM £10 DEPOSITSFollow ALL the action from the final day with our live blog below…KICK-OFF!Back underway at the City Ground. The last – and biggest – 45 minutes of the campaign!Copy linkCopiedBit of a break…Delay to the second half kick-offs in the games involving the Champions League hunters. That Emi Martinez red card meant the half time whistle at Old Trafford was a bit later than the rest. And the Premier League are determined that all games involving those in contention will kick off at the same time…Copy linkCopiedFrom Jack Rosser at Portman RoadThere has been a real lack of intensity from both sides at Portman Road, but the Hammers are ahead thanks to an Ipswich clanger. The real star of the first half has been 40-year-old Lukasz Fabianski. The Pole, playing his final game for the club, is putting on a display to show he’s still got it.There have been a couple of fine balls over the top, two very good saves and even a Cruyff turn.Copy linkCopiedHow we look at the breakThe positions from 1-7 have stayed the same throughout that 45 minutes and look the same at the break. The only change in the games that matter is Brentford finding themselves in 8th spot as they lead Wolves and Brighton trail at Tottenham. That could prove crucial depending on other results and Chelsea in midweek!Forest knew they needed to win and needed Newcastle or Villa to step up.The Toon have been lacklustre and Villa are now down to 10 men, yet both games are still 0-0.Is it written in the stars for Nuno and co?Copy linkCopiedFrom Dave Kidd at the City Ground It’s been anxious, fractious stuff at the City Ground with the height of the stakes all too apparent for both Forest and Chelsea. Pedro Neto and Chris Wood have squandered close-range volleyed chances and Anthony Elanga had a penalty shout turned down after a tangle with Cole Palmer. But it’s very much nil-nil with a big 45 to come. Copy linkCopiedFrom Martin Blackburn at Old TraffordHas Emi Martinez just blown Aston Villa’s chances of Champions League football? His rush of blood as he raced out to body check Rasmus Hojlund earned a red card – and has left his team in big trouble. They weren’t performing at all with 11 men either and are lucky to still be on terms. Aston Villa finally start to edge their way into this encounter.John McGinn has had a couple of sighters in the last few minutes, although hasn’t been willing to put any faith in his right foot. Now the visitors force a corner, although it turns out to be one that doesn’t trouble Altay Bayindir in the United goal.In terms of the Champions League chasing clubs, only Manchester City have found the back of the net. Newcastle’s home game with Everton and the crunch clash between Forest and Chelsea remain goalless.Copy linkCopiedNottingham Forest 0-0 Chelsea39. Ironic cheers around the City Ground as Wood wins a free kick on halfway. That’s taken short and Elanga tries to drive down the left and cut into the box but it’s Palmer doing the defensive work to shove him off the ball and get it clear.Copy linkCopiedLatest updates – Liverpool trail, Brentford up to 8thDean Henderson keeps Palace ahead. Copy linkCopiedSheffield United 1-1 Sunderland90 – Brereton Diaz comes of worse for wear from that Hume challenge as he exits down the tunnel. Tom Cannon replaces him. Peck also leaves play for Tom Davies. Copy linkCopiedSheffield United 1-1 Sunderland86 – The sense of revival has clearly spread across the Sunderland team as Hume wipes out Brereton Diaz, who requires treatment.Copy linkCopiedSheffield United 1-1 Sunderland85 – Brooks picks up a O’Hare’s pass out on the right wing, skips past Ballard but a renewed Le Fee is there to intercept to restart Sunderland’s momentum charge. Roberts is cynically stopped by Brereton Diaz who earns a yellow. Copy linkCopiedSheffield United 1-1 Sunderland80 – The power of a goal. Momentum has quite literally shifted as Bellingham lets off a shot from 20-plus yards out but no trouble.O’Nien’s shoulder seemed fine in the celebrations as he came rushing out of the bench. Copy linkCopiedSheffield United 1-1 Sunderland 76 – And just like that, we’ve got a game. Sheffield born substitute Brooks latches on a Hamer long ball to pickpocket Crikin on the edge of the area, but can’t slide past an alert Patterson. Sunderland go rushing down the field to win a free-kick. Copy linkCopiedSheffield United 1-0 Sunderland67 – Sunderland’s corner is once again underwhelming as the result comes out to Roberts who flicks it behind his back and sees the ball land on top of Cooper’s goal. Copy linkCopiedSheffield United 1-0 Sunderland65 – The Bruno Fernandes comparison I used for Hamer earlier shown in a passage. The Dutchman harries around to reclaim the ball in the middle of the park, skips past a man before receiving a one-two back, his attempted punch pass meets no one. Brooks and O’Hare come on for Brewster and Campbell. Copy linkCopiedSheffield United 1-0 Sunderland62 – Roberts has clearly been brought on to force the initiative as he once again goes for a pass that’s not on. Cooper remains untested as he comes out to take under control and release some tension. Copy linkCopiedSheffield United 1-0 Sunderland60 – Roberts gets his first touches as he peels off the right wing but sees his lofted ball fall short of its intended target. United pick up the lax pieces and gain some yardage into Sunderland’s half. Copy linkCopiedSheffield United 1-0 Sunderland58 – Hume slides the ball into Le Fee in yards of space around the centre-circle. The Frenchemn drives a strike into a United body instead of crafting a more favourable attacking move with those supporting him.Roberts enters the game as Rigg makes way. Whilst Brewster receives a yellow for a late challenge. Copy linkCopiedSheffield United 1-0 Sunderland54 – Space is growing out on the Wembley pitch. Sunderland’s pushed-up approach leaves them thin at the back as Moore’s movement proves beneficial to create a two-vs-two counter-attack situation but fails to get off a threatening effort as Mepham hurries back to block. The chance is deflected to the path of Brewster, who is denied by the sliding Rigg on the edge of the box. Copy linkCopiedSheffield United 1-0 Sunderland51 – The Sunderland crowd are not beaten by their side’s unsuccessful efforts as they egg them on with every foray. United’s adopted deep block means the Black Cats play is ushered out to the wide areas which Mundle receives again, cuts inside, but balloons a strike high and wide. Copy linkCopiedSheffield United 1-0 Sunderland48 – A proactive start from the Black Cats.United’s attempted one-two with Moore and Campbell is cut out as defence is turned straight into attack with Mundle.
