And we’ve no room for any additional time here either so it’s so long from Merseyside where Arsenal have won again, Everton have lost again and the match officials and the rule makers are in the spotlight again.
Be honest, after the international break, this was exactly the drama, frustration and controversy that you were waiting for.
Thanks for joining us, and goodnight.

26 seconds to go (and take a corner)
Much has been made of the 26 seconds that Arsenal took to take the corner that produced their winning goal.
Seen as clever play by many, waiting for the right moment to unlock an otherwise robust Everton defence, questions have arisen around the amount of stoppage time added on by the officials at 90 minutes.
Those queries appear particularly poignant given Paul Heckingbottom’s complaints yesterday that the referee told his Sheffield United players that they would have to play a goalkick long rather than taking longer to draw out the opposition.

    Toffees left in sticky situation
Everton’s tally of one point is their joint-worst return from the opening 5 games of a Premier League season along with 1994-95 – although they went on to finish 15th in that campaign.
The Toffees have also lost each of their first three home league games for only the fourth time in their history – and it is only the second time they have done it without scoring.

    Trossard happy to help
Leandro Trossard revealed he was delighted to play an important from the bench this afternoon with an impact that highlights the Gunners’ strength in depth.
The Belgian was a 24th minute substitute for the injured Gabriel Martinelli, but put the disappointment of starting on the bench behind him to net the only goal of the game by finishing off an excellent move from a corner.
It’s always nice to help your team and especially if you can score the winning goal. It was a great action, I called to Bukayo Saka and he saw me with a perfect lay-off and I had to hit it straight with my left. It goes in perfectly. I’m very happy.Leandro TrossardSky Sports

Keeping it clean on the road
Another Arsenal away win, and another clean sheet on the road.
It means that the Gunners have now kept out their hosts in 12 of their 21 away games since the start of last season.
And today they did it with a new goalkeeper to boot.

    Gunners sub sinks Everton
Arsenal fans were cursing their luck when Gabriel Martinelli went off injured in the first half, shortly after having a goal disallowed for offside.
But his replacement Leandro Trossard took his chance to shine, scoring a sumptuous winner in the second half.
It means that an Gunners substitute has scored in each of the last three Premier League games, the first time that the Londoners have done that since December 2021.
No wonder Mikel Arteta looks so delighted.

    Match stats from Goodison Park
Arsenal finally made their abundance of corners count, slicing Everton open with another short one to bag the only goal of the game.

Full time – Everton 0-1 Arsenal
The final whistle goes and there are barely enough Everton supporters left in the ground to signal their latest disappointment.
Instead it is the travelling Arsenal fans that can be heard celebrating, and they’re soon joined in that corner of Goodison Park by their players to acknowledge three hard fought points.
The only goal of the game was scored brilliantly by Leandro Trossard midway through the second half, and from that point onwards the result was never in doubt.
The Gunners leave the blue half of Merseyside with a win for the first time since the days of Arsene Wenger, and move level on points with Tottenham ahead of next week’s North London derby.
For Everton, however, it’s another defeat and leaves them with just a solitary point from the opening five games. Tough times.

    Everton 0-1 Arsenal
90+2. The home fans are flocking for the exits.
They have lost faith in this Everton side’s ability to find a way to make them happy.
Change is desperately needed at Goodison Park.
    Everton 0-1 Arsenal
    90. The board goes up to show four minutes of additional time, and Everton manager Sean Dyche is not pleased.
He’s got a point too considering all the substitutions and stoppages.
There were eight minutes at the Vitality Stadium earlier where there had been far less interruption.
    Make it make sense.
    Everton 0-1 Arsenal
    89. For the first time since his introduction, Calvert-Lewin finds some room inside the area but is only able to direct a cross-shot across the six-yard box.

Everton 0-1 Arsenal – Everton double substitution
    87. A last throw of the Dyche?
The Everton manager unleashes Nathan Patterson and teenage forward Youssef Chermiti too.
Ashley Young and Dwight McNeil make way.
    Everton 0-1 Arsenal
    85. Everton really need their supporters to lift them now.
The only problem is those long-suffering fans really need their team to do something for them to cheer.
    Everton 0-1 Arsenal
    83. Kai Havertz goes looking for Bukayo Saka at the back stick, but almost inadvertently finds the top corner with a cross.
Let’s face it, the German needs a morale-boosting goal, and would take it any way that it came.
    Everton 0-1 Arsenal
    81. Inside the final ten minutes now.
As it stands, Arsenal are moving level on points with Tottenham inside the top four while Everton will remain in the bottom three.
Everton 0-1 Arsenal – Everton substitution
    80. A change for the Toffees.
Can the guile of James Garner help Everton find an equaliser? The midfielder is on for Abdoulaye Doucoure.
Everton 0-1 Arsenal – Arsenal double substitution
    79. Mikel Arteta adds some height to his team for the closing stages with the introduction of Takehiro Tomiyasu and Kai Havertz.
Off go Oleksandr Zinchenko and Fabio Vieira.
    Everton 0-1 Arsenal
    77. Arsenal almost put this one to bed.
With Everton’s midfield all over the place, Trossard pushes a pass through for Odegaard to bear down on goal.
His strike is well-saved from Pickford, and Vieira’s follow-up is brilliantly blocked by Mykolenko.
The Everton goalkeeper and his defence still believe.
    Everton 0-1 Arsenal
    75. Back up the other end, and even Idrissa Gueye is going for goal now.
To the surprise of no-one inside Goodison, it flies away into the stand.
    Everton 0-1 Arsenal
    73. There’s more space for Arsenal now, and they so nearly pick off Everton for a second on the break.
A cross to the far post looks set for Odegaard to strike until Vieira takes it off the toe of his teammate with a far from convincing effort.
    Everton 0-1 Arsenal
    71. Everton need to change their ways now if they are to rescue something here, and immediately Pickford goes route one.
It nearly pays off too with Mykolenko – eventually after a slight miscontrol – getting on the end of the punt to strike at goal.
Gabriel does his job, however, getting across to block behind.
    Everton 0-1 Arsenal
    69. Finally we have a goal, and it was well worth the wait!
Another Arsenal corner played short appeared to have fizzled out, but the visitors kept the ball moving and eventually Bukayo Saka was played into the byline.
The England star kept his cool and dragged it back for Leandro Trossard, who met the pass perfectly first time to powerfully sidefoot across goal and in off the far post.
    The Gunners lead at Goodison!

    Brilliant!

    Everton 0-0 Arsenal
    67. Arsenal win their seventh corner of the game.
Everton, meanwhile, are still awaiting their first.
Mind you, the Gunners haven’t really threatened from dead ball situations yet, and once again this one is mopped up by Tarkowski and co.
Everton 0-0 Arsenal – Everton and Arsenal substitutions
    64. It’s 9 for 14 on both sides as Calvert-Lewin replaces Beto and Jesus comes on for Nketiah.
Two oddly reassuring substitutions for us in the OCD community.

    Everton 0-0 Arsenal
    34. Fabio Vieira has gone down now after a coming together with Beto that saw the midfielder take an arm to the mouth.
Only one winner there, I’m afraid.
    Everton 0-0 Arsenal
    32. It does feel as though the disallowed goal combined with Martinelli’s injury has taken the impetus out of Arsenal’s performance.
They need something to spark them back into life.
    Everton 0-0 Arsenal
    30. A driving run into the box by Doucoure has Everton asking for a penalty.
They’re absolutely kidding themselves though with the Malian midfielder already on his way down long before Saliba stuck out and then withdrew his leg.
Simon Hooper is unmoved, and his only mistake is not booking Doucoure for diving.
    Everton 0-0 Arsenal
    28. The hosts start to come forward for the first time with Beto attempting to outmuscle the Arsenal centre-backs.
He has no joy on this occasion, but seconds later Raya is drawn into action for the first time, plucking Young’s cross out of the sky.
    Everton 0-0 Arsenal
    26. Despite the upheaval of losing a player, Arsenal’s dominance continues.
Rice twists and turns inside the penalty area, but his shot is blocked.
Everton 0-0 Arsenal – Arsenal substitution
    24. Sure enough, Martinelli makes way and is replaced by Leandro Trossard.
A real blow for the Gunners.
    Everton 0-0 Arsenal
    22. Meanwhile, Gabriel Martinelli’s afternoon has taken a further turn for the worse.
The Brazilian has gone down off the ball, and doesn’t look as though he’ll be able to continue.
    Everton 0-0 Arsenal
    20. Debate is raging!
Gabriel Martinelli races through to cooly convert and put Arsenal in the lead.
    Or so he thinks.
After a lengthy VAR check, the goal has been ruled out for offside.
It’s Eddie Nketiah who has been penalised with the striker adjudged to be ahead of Vitaliy Mykolenko when the ball came through to him in the build-up.
However, it’s marginal, and just like Alejandro Garnacho’s goal at the Emirates, the angle being used by the video officials to check doesn’t look the best.
Furthermore, the pass to Nketiah from Gabriel wasn’t a clean one, and actually came off Everton’s Beto last.
This will be an argument that runs and runs.

    Everton 0-0 Arsenal
    18. White. Rice. White. Rice. White.
A cross to the backpost for Vieira stops me thinking about my dinner options, and instead has me chuckling at the midfielder for miscuing his volley.
    Everton 0-0 Arsenal
    16. Arsenal have so far registered 16 successful passes in the final third.
    Everton? Just the one, dear.
    Everton 0-0 Arsenal
    14. Saka sparks a break by nutmegging Mykolenko on the touchline, but soon he and Odegaard are crowded out by five blue shirts – and Doucoure comes away with the ball.
    Everton 0-0 Arsenal
    12. Jeers ring out from the Gwladys Street End for the first time today (but undoubtedly not the last).
The home fans are not happy after Nketiah left one on Pickford in pursuit of Braithwaite’s short backpass.
In truth, there’s little in it, and Simon Hooper does well just to calm the situation down.
    Everton 0-0 Arsenal
    10. The second corner is half-cleared towards Vieira outside the box.
The young Portuguese star fancies his chances with a drop of the shoulder, but blasts his shot high and wide of Pickford’s goal.
    Everton 0-0 Arsenal
    9. Less assured from Branthwaite on his occasion, who should comfortably deal with a loose ball following Arsenal’s corner.
Instead, he wellies it straight into the back of Young and behind for another corner kick to the visitors.
    Everton 0-0 Arsenal
    8. Alert covering from Branthwaite slides the ball out for a corner after McNeil had his pocket picked by Odegaard.
    Everton 0-0 Arsenal
    6. Unsurprisingly, it’s the visitors that have taken control of possession early on.
As of yet, there’s been no opportunity for Beto to show the Goodison crowd what he can do.
    Everton 0-0 Arsenal
    4. Young impresses again, this time up against the pace and guile of Martinelli.
The Premier League veteran even manages to force the ball against his opponent to win a goalkick.
    Everton 0-0 Arsenal
    3. A first corner of the game is floated towards the near post by Bukayo Saka, and confidently headed clear by this fixture’s matchwinner last season, James Tarkowski.
    Everton 0-0 Arsenal
    2. Some promising early play take Arsenal across the pitch from right to left.
That is until Zinchenko’s through ball is keenly cut out by the youthful zest of 38-year-old Ashley Young.
    Kick-off – Everton v Arsenal
    1. Game on! It’s the Premier League runners-up that get the action underway at Goodison.
A traditional game, and traditional colours too; Everton are in blue and white, Arsenal are in red and white.
    Here come the two teams!
The theme tune to Z-Cars rings around Goodison Park, which means the players of Everton and Arsenal are emerging from the tunnel at this famous old stadium.
And after all the talk off the pitch this week, the Toffees will be keen to get back to matters on it – despite their poor start to the season.
But standing in their way are one of the best sides in the country, and there can be no greater incentive for the Gunners than going level on points with Tottenham should they win.
It’s all set up for an intriguing afternoon, and kick-off on Merseyside comes next.
    Century up for Gabriel
Gabriel is back in the Arsenal team, and today will make his 100th Premier League appearance for the Gunners.
The Brazilian made his debut for the Londoners back in September 2020, scoring in a 3-0 win away at Fulham.

    Added Firepower
Sean Dyche has been handed a huge boost this afternoon with striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin returning to the squad.
The Toffees have struggled for goals in the opening four games of the season.

    Raya IN
Mikel Arteta has opted with Brentford loanee David Raya between the sticks at Goodison this afternoon.
It will be the Spaniard’s first start for the Gunners since he made the switch to the Emirates this summer.

    Goodbye from that south coast
That’s all from us here at Bournemouth but there’s still more Premier League football to come this afternoon.
We’re now at Goodison Park for Everton versus Arsenal, and you can follow all the action live.
From the Vitality Stadium, thanks for joining us and goodbye.
Match stats from the Vitality Stadium
Twenty-seven shots on goal but no breakthrough.

Full time – Bournemouth 0-0 Chelsea
Better late than never, David Coote calls time at the Vitality Stadium, and boos ring out from the away section.
It was a game of much huff and puff, occasional promise, but a real lack of attacking quality. Indeed, goalkeepers Neto and Robert Sanchez were arguably their team’s best performers.
Bournemouth remain without a win under Androni Iraola, but will be buoyed by their workrate and performance.
For Chelsea, it’s now their second worst start to a Premier League season, and questions will continue to be asked.
    Bournemouth 0-0 Chelsea
    90+7. Chelsea win a corner.
Alan Smith chooses this moment to remind everyone that Bournemouth conceded the most goals from corners in the Premier League last season.
Perhaps he should have reminded the Chelsea players, who instead play it short and waste the opportunity for a late smash and grab.
    Bournemouth 0-0 Chelsea
90+4. The home side waste a free-kick by playing it too long, and now it feels as though both sets of players have settled for a point, a handshake, and a chuckle about where the referee got eight minutes of stoppage time from.
    Bournemouth 0-0 Chelsea
90+2. Gusto has spent much of the second half lying on the track off the pitch, having failed to keep in a cross,
    Bournemouth 0-0 Chelsea
    90. The board goes up to signal EIGHT minutes of additional time.
Nobody is really sure why other than it being the fashion these days, but it gives both sides more time to find that elusive winner.
Bournemouth 0-0 Chelsea – Bournemouth substitution
    88. Here comes David Brooks.
The Welshman is on for Ryan Christie. Can he continue his goalscoring form in typically heroic fashion?
    Bournemouth 0-0 Chelsea
    86. It’s a pulsating end to this clash on the south coast.
Both sides believe they can still win this, mainly due to the incompetence of their opponents.
