Which three teams will make it to the finals in Germany next summer?
    Wales vs Finland
Wales missed out on automatic qualification after finishing third in their group – four points behind second-placed Croatia.
But they are unbeaten in four competitive matches so they could be quietly confident they can reach a third successive major tournament.
They will also be encouraged by the fact they are unbeaten in their four previous meetings with Finland dating back to 2013.
However Markku Kanerva’s side have won six of their last nine matches and recently thrashed Northern Ireland 4-0.
    Wales to face Finland
So, Wales will host Finland in their Path A semi-final on March 21.

The Euro 2020 play-offs offered a different format.
For the first time, teams had to come through more than one round and, unlike all previous editions, sides qualified to participate via the Nations League, rather than the European qualifiers.
    When are the play-off fixtures?
There will be six semi-final fixtures played on March 21, 2024 followed by three final matches on March 26, 2024.

    That’s all from us
Thank you for joining our coverage of England’s clash against North Macedonia.
The Uefa Euro 2024 final tournament draw takes place on December 2.
    Kane on debutant Lewis
Harry Kane was also left impressed by England debutant Rico Lewis.
I thought he was really good with and without the ball.
A shame for the penalty but he can be proud, I thought he was fantastic.
He just needs to keep working hard and I’m sure he will be back with us.Harry KaneChannel 4
    Kane ‘proud’ of qualifying campaign
Despite lacklustre results against Malta and now North Macedonia, Harry Kane has insisted that he is “proud” of England’s unbeaten qualifying campaign.
Difficult game, we knew it would be and it was tough against a decent side playing on a pitch that’s difficult to play our style of football.
We went 1-0 behind against the run of play with a soft penalty. It was good to get on the pitch, I’m always trying to help the team whether it is 90 minutes or 10 minutes. It was important for us to get a goal back and a shame we couldn’t get a second.
I think it was an own goal, pretty sure. If anyone was going to get a second it was us.
Against Malta we were sloppy on the ball, today we got a bit of a sucker-punch with the counter-attack and a soft penalty. We were playing against a team that people expected us to beat five or six nil, but they did a job on Italy in the World Cup qualifiers to knock them out.
We can be really proud of how the qualifying campaign has gone.Harry KaneChannel 4
‘A great birthday present’ – Lewis
Rico Lewis was left smiling after making his England debut just hours before his 19th birthday.
He told Channel 4: “Overall I am very happy. The result was unfortunate and the decision that went against me.
“I am so happy to have made my debut before my birthday it is a lovely present.”
    Walker on result
Kyle Walker has claimed that Rico Lewis was on the end of an “unfair” decision.
He told Channel 4: “It was always going to be tough to come here.
“We dug in and we got a point. We wanted three but things happen in football that I don’t think are fair.
“I think Rico got an unfair decision tonight.”
‘Lack of options for Southgate’ – Upson
Matthew Upson has claimed that Gareth Southgate was left with little option but to bring on Harry Kane against North Macedonia.
He told BBC Radio 5 Live: “Gareth Southgate would have been looking at the game at one nil down and thinking ‘I don’t want a loss on our qualifying record’, certainly not in this game.
“The one obvious switch is Harry Kane. Can you bring him on in another role to accomodate others such as Ollie Watkins for him to have more game time?
“Well then you would be watering down the effectiveness of the best striker in the world.
“I don’t think he had much of an option.”

More reaction to the penalty call
Former England players commented on the controversial decision.
Chelsea legend John Terry wrote: “Oh my word… How is that a penalty?”
England icon Gary Lineker said: “It’s not important in the slightest, but that’s the most ridiculous penalty decision.”
While ex-Liverpool star Jamie Carragher said: “Bizarre these VAR penalties that get given in Europe. What’s more bizarre is they didn’t give the one against Maguire 😂.”
    England player ratings
Check out our player ratings here.
Harry Kane scored the highest marks thanks to his instant impact in the match.
However, Ollie Watkins was the lowest scorer as he struggled to flourish.

    Elsewhere in Group C
Italy have qualified for Euro 2024 thanks to their record against Ukraine.
The holders could only manage a 0-0 draw against Ukraine but it is enough to get them on the plane to Germany.
    FT – North Macedonia 1 England 1
Indeed it was as the referee blows for full time.
Another uninspiring performance from England, but they made sure to finish as top seeds for the draw for Euro 2024 and unbeaten in qualifying.
    North Macedonia 1 England 1
    95. Chance for Kane, but he can not get any accuracy on his header as it goes for a goal kick.
Probably the last chance in the match.
    North Macedonia 1 England 1
    93. England hurrying North Macedonia along as they try to get the ball back and find the winner.
    North Macedonia 1 England 1
    90. Marcus Rashford flashes a free-kick wide. Looked better before the replays.
    North Macedonia 1 England 1
    90. There will be six added minutes, can England find a winner?
    North Macedonia 1 England 1
    85. Awkward moment for Pickford as Maguire’s backpass has plenty on it.
The goalkeeper is able to boot it clear, just about.
    North Macedonia 1 England 1
    83. Triple change for England, Phillips, Palmer and Rashford are on.
Grealish, Saka and Alexander-Arnold are off.
    North Macedonia 1 England 1
    81. England have a free kick in the attacking half after Grealish was fouled.
Maguire gets on the cross from Foden and heads goalwards, but the whistle is blown for a push.
    North Macedonia 1 England 1
    77. England struggling to break down the hosts at the moment.
The frustration almost cost the Three Lions as Guehi tried forcing a ball only for it to get intercepted.
    North Macedonia 1 England 1
    70. 20 minutes to go and England are looking more likely to get a winner.
    North Macedonia 1 England 1
    68. Confirmation has come through that the goal has been credited as an own goal by Atanasov.
    North Macedonia 1 England 1
    66. The hosts are not done yet as they are still looking to hurt England on the break.
So far Southgate’s men have dealt with them, but they can’t switch off if they want to maintain an unbeaten 2023.
    North Macedonia 1 England 1
    61. Bit of handbags between Grealish and Elmas after the Englishman was fouled on the edge of the box.
    North Macedonia 1 England 1
    60. England have looked a lot more fluid this half and are putting on pressure as they search for the go-ahead goal.
    GOAL – North Macedonia 1 England 1
    58. GOALLLLLLLLLLL HARRY KANE!
Kane scores with his first touch of the ball to drag England level.
    North Macedonia 1 England 0
    57. England get a corner after Alexandre-Arnold has a shot deflected.
Kane comes on before the set-piece for Watkins. More

Red Bull drivers to wear wacky outfits for Las Vegas GP
For Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez, they will be hoping for A Little Less conversation and a little more action at the Las Vegas Grand Prix.
And whoever comes out on top might be All Shook Up by the result.
That’s because the Red Bull drivers are set to wear Elvis-inspired suits, when they take to the track at the Las Vegas Grand Prix on Saturday evening.
Called the ‘Viva Las Vegas Suit’, after the King’s famous hit, there will be two versions – one in red, one in white.
Both feature signature star details on the trousers in homage to the Hound Dog star.
“As we gear up for the first ever Grand Prix in Las Vegas, it’s only fitting that we pay tribute to the most prolific Las Vegas icon, Elvis Presley,” Red Bull’s Team Principal Christian Horner said.
“Elvis left his mark on Vegas and the world, becoming synonymous with the glitz, the flash, and the energy of the strip, something we are hoping to replicate as we take to the track on Saturday night.”

Welcome to SunSport’s live blog of the Las Vegas Grand Prix!
Charles Leclerc will start on pole in Sin City after a superb qualifying performance.
The 26-year-old’s Ferrari teammate Carlos Sainz finished just behind him in qualifying but will be forced to start the race in 12th after a 10-place grid penalty.
The Spaniard caused the first practice session at the Las Vegas Grand Prix to be cancelled after less than ten minutes of action when he drove over a loose manhole cover.
CCTV footage from the track showed the moment Sainz’s car caused a huge outburst of sparks as the bottom of his car was ravaged by the cover.
The freak accident at the newly-created street circuit caused irreparable damage to his engine and chassis.
The damage meant Sainz would need to take a third energy store component, with drivers only allowed two for the full season.
Ferrari asked for an exception to the rules to make penalty-free repairs on the car due to the “highly unusual external circumstances”.
However, race stewards rejected this request and handed Sainz a ten-place grid penalty.
Meanwhile, F1 champion Max Verstappen will start second on the grid, while Lewis Hamilton has work to do in tenth. More

Adam Azim vs Franck Petitjean LIVE RESULT: Assassin wins by knockout to claim European super-lightweight title

ADAM AZIM has continued his unbeaten record and become the new European super-lightweight champion following victory over Franck Petitjean in Wolverhampton. The 21-year-old had complete control of the bout and stopped Petitjean in the tenth after the former champion’s corner threw in the towel.
And in the main event of the night, Tyler Denny became the new European middleweight champ in his hometown to complete an inspirational underdog story.

    Shalom’s impressed
Promoter Ben Shalom is very impressed by Tyler Denny.
“I’ve never met a fighter who loves to fight as much as Tyler, it’s incredible,” he said after the fight.
“It’s one of my highlights in boxing, it’s why I want to be in the sport. To come from where he has, to continue and to now be European champion is incredible.”
    He’s calling out Eubank!
Denny was clear who he wants as his next opponent.
“It’s unreal, I never would have dream something like this, I’m lost for words, I couldn’t do this without them.
“Where’s Eubank Jr at? Come on, man. I’ll fight anybody!
“I’ve fought everywhere, and this is the best place!”
    Denny on Cloud nine
“This is the best. I’ve loved all week. To win the belt tops it all off.
“I thought he was tiring big time. I felt I was going to get him out there anyway.
“Something always happens in my fights, maybe that’s why people come and watch.”Denny on his performance
    Very strange moment
Signani didn’t really appear like he wanted to come out for Round 8.
He took an eternity to get out, spitting his gum shield out.
It seems like his corner put him out of his misery.
Denny won’t mind that though. He is the winner.
    All over
Tyler Denny is the new champ!
Signani’s corner appears to retire their man.
    Round 7
Blood is pouring into that eye.
Signani can barely see, often squinting in that round.
Denny is patiently waiting for his moment, while Signani is hanging on in.
    All eyes on the corner.
    Round 6
We had a break in play to treat Signani’s cut above his eye from an earlier clash of heads.
The doctor came in to take a look, and deemed the fight can still go on.
But you have to wonder if it could go to the cards. If it does, Denny is ahead.
    Round 5
    What a round!
Denny and Signani are both swinging at each other.
The former landed a left – again rocking the Italian’s head back.
But, straight away Signani belted Denny with a right.
    Brutal.
    Round 4
That fourth round was as open as it gets.
Both went on the attack, with Signani looking a little lively when he gets his punches out.
Denny is quick on his feet, avoiding the danger.
Right before the bell, Denny lands a good left on Signani.
    Round 3
Signani retreats following a flush shot from Denny.
You get the feeling he is waiting for his opponent to slow down as we go through the rounds.
He’s flat-footed, but playing the long game.
    Still, Denny is getting through.
    Round 2
    Denny’s boxing brilliantly.
A nice right hand rocked the Italian, beating his defences and rocking his head back.
Like Azim, it will be the combo work that will pay dividends.
An overhand left, though, nearly catches Denny. He will have to watch that.
    Round 1
Signani looks very stiff with his stance.
Denny’s speed could dictate this fight, it will be up to him to do that against his 44-year-old opponent.
Positive start from the challenger, who may have just edged that round.
    What a walk-in
Forget Sweet Child of Mine’s intro.
Because the champ from Italy Signani jogged into the ring before you could blink.
Completely different to Denny who lapped up the crowd on his way in.
    We have a fight on!
    Catch your breath
    Like we have time to…
There’s ANOTHER title fight on the line next.
It’s Tyler Denny facing off against Matteo Signani.
The European middleweight title is on the line. Let’s go!
‘I had to chop the tree down’
“I’m feeling amazing. I want to thank my team and the main man Shane McGuigan for getting me to this point.
“He was really tough, I knew I couldn’t stop him in the early rounds, this was a development fight for me, I had to chop the tree down and I did that. I could have gone another 15 rounds then.”Azim on Sky Sports
    In came the towel
Azim floored Petitjean with those two right uppercuts.
The towel came in from Petitjean’s corner, it was punishment enough.
He lasted 10 rounds, bravely, but it was inevitable.
A dominating performance from Azim…. the new European super-lightweight champion.
    It’s all over
Adam Azim is the European champion.
    He has stopped Petitjean.
    Round 9
Another low blow from Azim and the ref deducts a point.
It won’t make a difference, if we continue in this vain.
An annoyed Azim then goes after Petitjean as his corner egg him on.
He’s picking Petitjean apart with right and left jabs.
The European title is in the palm of his… gloves?
    Round 8
Petitjean finds himself cornered as Azim unleashes more punches.
He isn’t even looking to fight, moving away from the challenger who hunts Petitjean down.
    These combos are frightening.
The belt is surely coming home.
    Round 7
Petitjean fighting with more purpose this round.
Well, he has to. He will need a knockout now.
Azim’s speed showed once again – a five shot combo rocked Petitjean.
A knockout could be on the cards, although he’s biding his time.
    Round 6
    Azim really grinding down Petitjean.
He’s not only bagging the rounds, he’s making his opponent work around the ring.
Difficult to see the French fighter hurting Azim.
Azim gets another warning for a low blow, although again that seemed like it was on the belt of the shorts.
Petitjean is good at taking punishment. A flurry of punches from Azim has the champ on the ropes, again with his arms close together on the defence.
    Round 5
Somewhere along the line Petitjean is going to have to show a lot more.
And a decent jab showed he’s capable of getting through Azim.
But Azim stalks his opponent, to the point where a body shot floors his opponent.
Petitjean is up after eight seconds, and spends the latter part of the round defending his body.
    Big moment in this fight.
    Round 4
    Azim’s comfortable here.
And he’s starting to get in the range, unleashing a left hook that caught Petitjean.
    Petitjean is showing good defense.
But that right hand now has come through a few times.
Azim marched back to his corner. Man on a mission.
    Round 3
A two-punch salvo throws Petitjean into the ropes.
Azim is edging closer to his opponent and continuing to lead on the attack.
You definitely could say Azim has won the first three rounds.
    Round 2
    Solid right hands from Azim.
Petitjean starting to feel the pace and Azim’s undeniable power.
    Tepid start from the champ.
But the Brit is very focused. This is his night, he senses it. More

    That’s all from Wembley
England defeated Malta 2-0 at Wembley to extend their undefeated streak in Group C.
The Three Lions opened the scoring after just eight minutes when Phil Foden’s cross from the right deflected off Enrico Pepe who netted a freak own-goal.
The hosts thought they got a penalty shortly before half-time when Harry Kane appeared to have been fouled by the visitors’ goalkeeper Henry Bonello who lunged with both arms but the referee booked the Bayern Munich star for diving instead.
Kane, though, managed to get his goal and seal the three points for England in the 75th minute.
Kyle Walker moved the ball from the right and found Foden in the penalty area, the Manchester City star switched to Bukayo Saka on the right and the Arsenal star found his captain who hit the back of the net.
England thought they got a third with a stunning effort by Declan Rice outside the box but Kane was caught offside as the ball went past him.

    More from Southgate
England boss Gareth Southgate insists his players should have created more chances.
In the second half we could have scored more but they don’t really lose by fives and sixes.
They get a lot of men back.
We obviously didn’t create as many chances as I’d have liked to.Gareth SouthgateChannel 4

    Gareth Southgate reacts
England boss Gareth Southgate admits the performance against Malta wasn’t up to standards.
It was a game that we didn’t start well, and I’ve been in football a long time, if you don’t start well it’s hard to pick the game up.
We got a goal out of nothing. The quality on the ball is not normally at that level, the players knew we could win the game at a canter and we didn’t extend ourselves as we normally would.
They’ve played so many matches and done such a brilliant job, I’m not going to hammer them for that.
We know we should be better, it was one of those days when we really didn’t get goingGareth Southgate

    Credit: X – Behzinga
One fan said “Back to the old YT boxing days, let’s go!”
This could be one for the ages…
    Joe Weller called out Behzinga
Joe Weller had some choice words for Sidemen star Behzinga before the main event kicked off.
He said he wants to bring back YouTube boxing, and wants to fight the dad of one at Wembley Arena.
    KSI is backing it too!

    Room for improvement
It wasn’t such a great night for TikTok sensation Simple Simon, who was knocked out by comedian Dapper Laughs within the first round after two quick knockdowns.
Dapper Laughs however, he will be looking for another opponent, he will want to move up the ranks here and onto a main card before long.
    Fight of the night
Fight of the night has got to go to the finale, Jarvis vs BDave.
It was a spectacular fight, which saw Jarvis knock down his opponent within the first TEN seconds of the bout.
BDave however, did really well to come back from that and put on a good showing to see the fight out, and attack Jarvis himself.
It wasn’t quite enough however, as Jarvis walked away with the belt before calling out Alex Wassabi and Nichlmao.
    Credit: X – @MisfitsBoxing
Jarvis speaks out after his win
“I wanted to give the best fight I could and I did that”
“The adrenaline, I couldn’t feel it, he has probably got the hardest head I have ever hit.”
“Nichlmao, Alex Wassabi, if you’re watching let’s get it!”
Jarvis beats BDave by unanimous decision!
All three judges scored the bout 54-50 in favour of Jarvis!
BDave did really well regardless, and can be proud of that performance despite the loss.
    Who is next for Jarvis?
Jarvis vs BDave – Round 5
Into the final round now, as we get close to crowning a champion!
Both guys cardio is holding up nicely.
BDave has done incredibly well to recover from that first round knock down.
It goes the distance, surprisingly, and both fighters will be extremely proud of that performance.
Jarvis vs BDave – Round 4
A huge right hand from BDave in round four, and Jarvis is forced to fight here!
Jarvis has definitely managed the fight better than BDave, but the latter brings the entertainment factor without a doubt!
Jarvis hasn’t stung BDave as much lately as the fight progresses.
He does get a nice combination done though as the end!
Jarvis vs BDave – Round 3
This one is shaping up really nicely, I’m not sure BDave won that last round, but he definitely earned the respect of Jarvis there.
There is blood coming out of the nose of BDave, who is showing the heart of a warrior, and he comes in with a big shot too!
A fairly even third round there, a tough one to call.
Jarvis vs BDave – Round 2
What a first round, and we are into the second now.
I don’t see this one going the distance that is for sure.
BDave looks as though he might be making his way back into the fight, but then Jarvis opens up the hands and responds really well.
Jarvis vs BDave – Round 1
5x three minute rounds, the main event, HERE WE GO!
BDave is knocked down STRAIGHT AWAY!
    Within 10 seconds!
This is not looking good for BDave at all…
Jarvis lands another good right hand, and another.
Credit to BDave for staying competitive here.
    And now Jarvis…
He comes out to Kung-Fu Fighting!
    Another tune, fair play.
He has apparently been sparring Floyd Mayweather, so it is time to see what he has learned.
    Here comes BDave
Sweet Caroline is his walkout song, great choice, a classic.
He predicted a three round knockout, so let’s see what he has got in the locker.
    SWEEEET CAROLINE –
I’ll let you finish the rest at home…
    Joe Weller calls out Behzinga
Joe Weller is in the ring with Olivia Buzaglo, and he is calling out Behzinga!
    “Has anyone seen Behzinga?”
“Behzinga lets make this happen, Wembley Arena!”
    The main event is NEXT
    BDave against Jarvis.
This is the big one coming up next.
“I’m gonna knock him out in three rounds.” Says BDave.
Jully Poca beats Alaena Vampira by unanimous decision
It’s a deserved victory for Jully Poca over Alaena Vampira, she dominated that fight.
Full credit to Alaena, who would make a great opponent for Elle Brooke.
Alaena Vampira vs Jully Poca – Round 5
Poca looks a little uneasy at the start of this one, and Vampira is going for it in the last round.
Vampira needs to go for the knockout here if she stands a chance of winning it.
Poca is on her bike with 25 seconds to go.
    And it is all over!
It will go to the judges…
Alaena Vampira vs Jully Poca – Round 4
Alaena Vampira has come out fighting in the fourth round, and is gaining some confidence here!
Poca is just coming back with flurries when she gets within range, but that round might well be the first that Vampira has won.
Vampira is giving everything, but it looks like Jully Poca has got the power, and the win.
Alaena Vampira vs Jully Poca – Round 3
Jully is an absolute weapon when she lets her hands go, and she does so here, such power in those arms.
Vampira is showing that she can box, despite being 2-0 down so far.
Vampira has blood pouring out of her nose now, but she doesn’t care.
A great combo from Poca in that round, but Vampira is NOT giving up!
Alaena Vampira vs Jully Poca – Round 2
A great round for Poca in the second, and Vampira is likely going to need to come back from this.
They are shorter two minute rounds for women.
Alaena Vampira vs Jully Poca – Round 1
These two are at it from the get go!
A really fast start from Jully Poca, and Vampira may not have been expecting that!
    Here comes Jully Poca!
Another great walkout, and we are about to get underway!
    Alaena Vampira comes out!
    What an entrance that is!
Alaena walks out of a coffin like a true vampire, and she looks DANGEROUS.
Hope Jully has bought her garlic…
The co main event up next!
Jully Poca will face off against Alaena Vampira up next
It’s Brazil against USA, for the Cruiser-weight World Championship! More

Everton points deduction LIVE: Toffees docked 10 Premier League points for breaching FFP rules – reaction

EVERTON have plunged into a Premier League relegation battle after being hit with a 10-point deduction for breaching FFP rules. The Premier League has called for the punishment after Everton recorded heavy financial losses over the past three years.
And the Toffees are now only one place off 20th due to their goal difference as a result.
Follow SunSport’s live blog for all the latest from Everton
    FSA on Everton’s sanction
The FSA (Football Supporters’ Association) has claimed that football needs an independent regulator urgently after Everton’s 10-point deduction.
A statement reads: “The FSA has always argued that football needs an independent regulator with real time powers to intervene before clubs get themselves into positions where a points deduction is handed out.
“Today’s news once again shows the urgent need for the Government to deliver an independent regulator for football as soon as possible. This shouldn’t be happening.
“We’ve seen far too many clubs across the game find themselves in financial trouble and our sympathy is always with the supporters – they didn’t create the problems but they are punished alongside their club.”
Everton should take it, says Southall
Neville Southall believes Everton should accept their 10-point deduction and “suck it up”.
He told BBC Radio Five Live: “It has been coming so it is no surprise. But at the end of the day they knew it was coming and if they are doing Everton they are doing other clubs as well. Otherwise, it is discrimination against one club.
“All it will do is galvanise the players, the manager and the fans into one, which is a good thing, but they must appeal as that is what everyone does.
“However, if I was them I would just take it and get it out of the way. They are playing well and the Premier League is not a great league from the bottom half down, so we have a chance of winning that little bit of a league. It sounds harsh and horrendous but if you broke the rules, you broke the rules – just suck it up.”
Supercomputer predicts final Premier League table
A supercomputer has predicted the Premier League table at the end of the season after Everton’s points deduction.
The prediction sees the Toffees just survive relegation and finish in 17th place.
It means that Burnley, Luton and Sheffield United will return to the Championship after one season.

    Star reacts to news
Everton youth star Bradley Moonan has reacted to the news about the club’s sanction on social media.

Where are Everton in the league?
Since Everton have been hit with a ten point deduction they have dropped from their spot in 14th in the Premier League.
The club now sits 19th with only four points.
The club remain off the bottom of the table on goal difference.

    Stars could jump ship
Everton could lose a host of star names after being hit with a 10-point deduction by the Premier League.
Sun Sport has looked at SEVEN potential star men who could leave Sean Dyche’s squad over the coming months following the blockbuster news.
The list includes the likes of Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Jordan Pickford and Dwight McNeil.

How long do Everton have to appeal?
Everton have seven days to lodge their appeal against the sanctions imposed on them.
After that an appeal board will be appointed and then the Premier League have seven days to respond to the appeal.
An appeal date will then be put in place and this should be before the end of the season.
What about Chelsea and Man City?
Chelsea and Manchester City face the threat of RELEGATION, according to a former financial advisor to the Etihad club.
Following Everton’s sanctions Stefan Borson, a legal expert, believes both clubs could be booted out of the top flight.
Borson tweeted: “Without seeing the judgement/award -10 points for Everton feels harsh for a straightforward FFP breach to me.
“But reinforces that sanctions against City [if proven] and now Chelsea [if charged and admitted on the off-books payments] will be potentially relegation inducing.
“One thing is for sure, given the scale of this sporting sanction, Chelsea’s calculus (in my opinion) that they could breach Premier League profit and sustainability and just take a fine as a cost of doing business, must be in urgent and immediate reconsideration.
“The January window may be interesting. Even in the best case, they can no longer rely on being able to convince an Independent Commission to accept their Covid and Sanctions allowances as exceptional adjustments (to the extent that was the plan).”

    Clubs ‘could sue’ Everton
Three clubs are planning to sue Everton after they were found guilty of breaching Financial Fair Play rules, according to reports.
But the punishment of a 10 point deduction may not be enough for Leicester, Burnley and Leeds.
All three have been on the wrong end of relegation battles with Everton over the past two years.
According to The Mail, they are seeking as much as £300MILLION – with each club estimating they lost £100m from their respective relegations to the Championship.
It is understood the three sides contacted 777 Partners – the Merseyside outfit’s new owners – to state their intention to sue if they were found guilty.
And it is now being reported they met on Friday afternoon to reaffirm their plan to sue Everton.

    Merson’s view on sanction
Paul Merson has tweeted following Everton’s sanction and claimed that teams will not catch the big six if they “can’t spend”.
He wrote: “Top 6 won’t be caught if teams can’t spend money…”

    What has the PL said?
The Premier League announced the decision with the following statement.
It read: “An independent Commission has imposed an immediate deduction of 10 points on Everton FC for a breach of the Premier League’s Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSRs).
“The Premier League issued a complaint against the club and referred the case to an independent Commission earlier this year.
“During the proceedings, the club admitted it was in breach of the PSRs for the period ending Season 2021/22 but the extent of the breach remained in dispute.
“Following a five-day hearing last month, the commission determined that Everton FC’s PSR Calculation for the relevant period resulted in a loss of £124.5million, as contended by the Premier League, which exceeded the threshold of £105million permitted under the PSRs.
“The commission concluded that a sporting sanction in the form of a 10-point deduction should be imposed. That sanction has immediate effect.”
    Carragher slams Everton punishment
Jamie Carragher has hit out at the 10-point deduction handed to Everton calling it “excessive”.
He wrote on social media: “The 10-point deduction for Everton is excessive and not right, considering they have been working with the PL about this for the last couple of years.
“Would it have been better to be evasive and try and drag it out like other clubs?
“No doubt relegated clubs will have put big pressure on the PL to deal with Everton, but when you consider 6 clubs tried to leave the PL and there was no sanction at all it doesn’t feel right.
“Until other clubs are sanctioned Everton will feel they are being used to show there is no need for an independent regulator, and they are right.”

    One positive for Everton
With Everton’s season turned upside down and now in a relegation fight, there is one good omen for the club.
Only once has a club with four points or fewer after 12 points survived the drop.
That was Everton back in the 1994-95 season.

Everton penalised for direct loan, says expert
Kieran Maguire, a football finance expert, believes that Everton have been penalised for owner Farhad Moshiri loaning the club money himself rather than loans from high-interest banks.
Farhad Moshiri acquired the club about seven years ago. He did try to accelerate Everton through increasing player transfer, they had operated a very tight ship prior to that.
There were quite a few managerial changes and I’m sure Everton will take responsibility and say they were not completely blameless and were close to the limit.
But the Premier League decided to look at the extend of Everton’s losses were over £300 million in a three-year period but you are allowed specific deductions for investment in infrastructure, the women’s team, the community which Everton’s is unprecedented in the country.
Everton will feel these are our calculations, the Premier League decided to take a deeper look.
If Everton had borrowed money through a bank and put that money into the stadium, I think they would have been below the limit whereas they’ve borrowed money directly through the owner and this is proving to be a legal/ accounting issue rather than a footballing one.
If there was going to be a breach and a points deduction, I think most people thought it would have been in the region of 3-6.
Ten is unprecedented, Birmingham City breached financial fair play rules in the Championship a few years ago and were given a nine-point deduction. That was for a much clearer set of circumstances so you can understand why Everton are aggrieved.
    Kieran MaguireSky Sports
    Cottee still confident
Another former Everton star, Tony Cottee, believes that Everton will manage to avoid relegation from the Premier League.
He, like Lineker, also questioned whether or not other clubs would get punishments.
He wrote: “Let’s just hope it’s not one rule for Everton and one rule for the top Clubs?!
“I still think that they’ll stay up despite the 10 pts.”

    Lineker on Everton sanction
Former Everton star Gary Lineker has tweeted after Everton were docked 10 points by the Premier League.
He asked whether any other clubs would see similar punishments.
He wrote: “With Everton being docked 10 points, it will be very interesting to see if other clubs are sanctioned.”

    Where does it leaves Everton?
Everton have dropped from 14th to 19th in the Premier League table, with their goal difference keeping them off the bottom.
The likes of Nottingham Forest, Fulham, Bournemouth, Luton Town and Sheffield United have all jumped up one spot.

    Everton will appeal
Everton have insisted that the club will appeal the decision that it has labelled as “unjust”.
Everton Football Club is both shocked and disappointed by the ruling of the Premier League’s Commission.
The Club believes that the commission has imposed a wholly disproportionate and unjust sporting sanction. The club has already communicated its intention to appeal the decision to the Premier League. The appeal process will now commence and the club’s case will be heard by an Appeal Board appointed pursuant to the Premier League’s rules in due course.
Everton maintains that it has been open and transparent in the information it has provided to the Premier League and that it has always respected the integrity of the process.
The club does not recognise the finding that it failed to act with the utmost good faith and it does not understand this to have been an allegation made by the Premier League during the course of proceedings.
Both the harshness and severity of the sanction imposed by the Commission are neither a fair nor a reasonable reflection of the evidence submitted.
The club will also monitor with great interest the decisions made in any other cases concerning the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules.
Everton cannot comment on this matter any further until the appeal process has concluded.Club statementEverton
    What the sanction means?
Everton’s sanction means they are the first Premier League club to be hit with a points deduction for breaching FFP rules.
The Toffees have been punished for breaching profit and sustainability rules after recording financial losses of £124.5million for the 2021/22 season.
That exceeds the Premier League threshold, which permits a maximum loss of £105m for one year.
    Everton hit with points deduction
Everton have been hit with a 10-point deduction by the Premier League for breaching profit and sustainability rules.
The sanction takes place with immediate effect which means the Toffees drop five places and are now in the relegation zone – and only off the bottom thanks to goal difference. More
