    Blake offers his support
Burnley legend Robbie Blake has thrown his support Chris Basham’s way after his horror injury.
The pair were at Bolton Wanderers together in 2010.
    Blake tweeted: ”
Sending my best wishes and speeding recovery to Chris Basham. Thinking of you mate.”

    Huge stoppage
The game was stopped for 13 minutes for Basham to receive treatment on the pitch.
Medics were quick to treat him and make sure he was placed on a stretcher to an ambulance.

    Heckingbottom on Basham
Blades boss Paul Heckinbottom said: “He’s where he needs to be, with the doctors and medics in hospital.
“It’s something that you never want to see. Everyone knows how popular he is, and everyone will be thinking about him.”
    Quick-thinking medics
With the pain undoubtedly unbearable, quick-thinking medics rushed to Chris Basham in his time of need.
A Penthrox Inhaler, or a ‘Green Whistle’ was used for pain relief as he was strapped to a stretcher.
Basham was then helped to a pitchside ambulance and rushed off to hospital.

    Marco Silva’s words of support
Marco Silva has thrown his support Chris Basham’s way.
“It was a sad moment for Chris Basham that he had in that situation,” Silva said after the match.

“Of course he is going to have the support from the most important people for him; his family, friends and Sheffield United Football Club.”
    More Heckingbottom reaction
“He’s where he needs to be, in hospital with the doctors and the medical team. No-one wants to see that, ever, and when you’re involved in it and it’s one of your players it’s far far worse. I’ve been on a pitch with a teammate and involved when it’s someone else but when it’s one of your players its tough and you can see that with the players.
“No [diagnosis] but you guys have seen the pictures, it’s terrible, it’s horrific.
“We’ve lost a good player, had to made changes we didn’t want to change. We can’t blame that. It’s going to affect us and it’s going to affect us for the season. I don’t know what the next step will be, but he’s where he needs to be and that’s the most important thing. Everyone could see he needs to be in hospital.”
    Heckingbottom’s reaction
Manager Paul Heckingbottom admitted he got a good view of happened to Chris Basham.
And when his player was receiving treatment, he made sure he went onto the pitch to see how he was.

“He’s where he needs to be, with the doctors and medics in hospital,” Heckingbottom added.
“It’s something that you never want to see. Everyone knows how popular he is, and everyone will be thinking about him.”
    ‘Horrendous’
Sheffield United manager Paul Heckingbottom has described Chris Basham’s injury as “horrendous”.

Bad day at the office for the Blades.

He wrote on X: “There’s only one Chris Basham.” He added a praying hands emoji and a heart emoji.

    Wast-gasp Willian
Fulham have won 3-1 after Willian scored in the 92nd minute of lengthy injury time.
Though the match has been overshadowed by the injury to Blades captain Chris Basham.
    Ream to the rescue
Tim Ream was the first player to console Chris Basham after his horror injury.
The American Fulham star raced over to his opponent to check on him and offer his support.
It was an incident that really shook the players on the pitch.

    Positive thumbs up
As horrible as the initial injury to Chris Basham looks, there’s a glimpse of hope for the Sheffield United captain.
While he was being stretchered off the pitch he raised his hand and gave the fans a thumbs up.
Both sets of supporters united to give him a collective round of applause as he was taken away and put into the ambulance.
    Diop can’t look

Burnley 1 Chelsea 4: Sterling shows Southgate what he’s missing as Blues come from behind to record second straight win

GARETH SOUTHGATE should not delete Raheem Sterling’s phone number from his contacts book just yet.The Chelsea wide man, 28, has again been left out of the England squad for this week’s games with Australia and Italy.
Raheem Sterling celebrates his goal at Turf MoorCredit: AFP
Chelsea dominated in their win at Burnley
Chelsea were on top for most of the game
In fact he has not played for the Three Lions since the World Cup quarter final defeat to France 10 months ago.
Southgate said on Thursday he feels there are forwards who are playing better than the former Manchester City man right now.
If the national team boss is looking for a response from Sterling then he certainly got one here.
He only got his chance because Mykhailo Mudryk was not fit enough to start – but took it with both hands.
When it looked like it could be another worrying day for Mauricio Pochettino’s men, it was Sterling who dragged them back from the brink.
He forced an own goal, won a penalty, scored one himself and even had a hand in the fourth as the visitors eventually won at a canter.
And there can be no doubt if he plays like this then it won’t be long before he adds to his 82 England caps.
He left the field eight minutes from time to a standing ovation from the visiting fans – and fully deserved it.
Those who made the journey from West London recognised the £47 million ace had got them out of a hole here.
He looked in the mood early on as he took a pass from Cole Palmer – who also caught the eye – and cut in before curling a shot inches past the post.
But then a Burnley side – who had lost all four of their games at Turf Moor since returning to the Prem – took control.
Wilson Odobert had already given makeshift right-back Marc Cucurella a bit to think about so it was no surprise when the opener arrived down that side.
Lyle Foster weaved into the box and played in the French teen who steered a low shot past Robert Sanchez.
It was some way to mark his full Prem debut for the 18-year-old.
Credit to Foster too – he stayed on his feet when he could have gone down under a foul from Thiago Silva.
Odobert almost created a second as he once again had Cucurella twisting and turning before lifting a cross to the back post.
Mike Tresor looked to be in but could not direct his effort on goal under pressure from a defender and the chance was gone.
Meanwhile Cucurella was having a ‘mare and was lucky he did not connect with Odobert as he skipped past him – but got a yellow card anyway.
Chelsea were second best at that point but Enzo Fernandez found space at the back post but Cullen got back and timed his tackle perfectly to clear.
Sterling found went past his man and fired a low shot that was smothered at his near post by James Trafford.
The England winger was looking his team’s main threat and the equaliser arrived thanks to more good work from his down the left.
His cross into the box flicked off Ameen Al Dakhil and looped over Trafford – no wonder the home fans groaned.
It was the bit of luck that Pochettino needed as they had been second best since falling behind.
If he said a little prayer while his team was second best then they were certainly answered.
    Ameen to that.
Yet the visitors clearly felt ref Stuart Attwell had done them no favours – both Thiago Silva and Poch confronted him as he made his way off at half-time.
Poor old Al Dakhil was replaced by Dara O’Shea at half-time after his slice of bad luck but Chelsea were now on the front foot.
And their extra bit of quality took the game away from the home side.
Sterling was caught by the knee of Vitinho right on the line of the penalty area and the VAR confirmed it was just inside.
Palmer had to wait an age for the checks but kept his composure to send Trafford the wrong way from the spot.
The England Under 21 ace has impressed since his surprise £40 million move from Manchester City and now he has a goal to his name.
Burnley had lost their way either side of the break but almost hit straight back as
Odobert curled a vicious 25 yard effort that was smartly tipped over by Sanchez.
But their hopes of getting back in it were snuffed out as sub Aaron Ramsey was caught out midway through the second half.
Moises Caicedo and Connor Gallagher combined to send Sterling clear down the left.
He looked full of confidence as he thumped a low shot into the far corner and after a VAR check the goal stood.
And Sterling was involved yet again as number arrived 10 minutes later – sending over a cross from the left again.
Palmer could have gone for goal himself but instead laid it off for sub Nicolas Jackson who spun and finished neatly.
Three wins in a row for Chelsea now – and Poch’s Stamford Bridge reign finally has lift off.

Full time – Man Utd 2-1 Brentford
What a comeback by Manchester United.
Heading into stoppage time, this was the latest home defeat amid a continued run of underwhelming performances.
But enter Scott McTominay and the spirit of the mourning Sir Alex Ferguson.
The substitute only registered four touches during his time on the pitch, but two was all that was needed to turn this game round in dramatic fashion.
“Could this be Erik ten Hag’s Mark Robins moment?!” bellowed commentator Seb Hutchinson.
United fans will certainly hope so.
    Man Utd 2-1 Brentford
90+7. UNBELIEVABLE SCENES AT OLD TRAFFORD!!
In the final seconds, substitute Scott McTominay heads in his second to send the Manchester United faithful into raptures.
A long ball to the edge of the Brentford penalty area is headed back into the danger zone by Harry Maguire, and for the first time this afternoon Ethan Pinnock lost his man.
Reacting first was Scott McTominay – buoyed by his late equaliser – and he duly planted his header beyond Thomas Strakosha and in off the post to spark celebrations that they have not seen the like of here for years.
    What. An. Ending.
    SCOTT McTOMINAY AT THE DOUBLE!!

    Man Utd 1-1 Brentford
90+5. Manchester United believe they can this now.
Hojlund and Pinnock wrestle for possession in the box, and the ball eventually falls kindly into the path of Martial.
The forward gets his head down and shoots…
    …straight at Strakosha.
    Man Utd 1-1 Brentford
    90+3. IT’S IN!!
And the much-maligned Scott McTominay is the hero!
    They’ve done it!

    Man Utd 0-1 Brentford
    90. There will be SIX minutes for Manchester United to save this game – and possibly Erik ten Hag’s reputation if not job.

    Man Utd 0-1 Brentford

    89. The ball is in the net!
But the linesman’s flag is up!
It eventually goes in off a Brentford defender, but Anthony Martial is declared offside in the build-up.
VAR do check the play, but quickly agree with the onfield decision. Let’s just hope the video officials heard it correctly.
    Man Utd 0-1 Brentford
    88. Manchester United win a free-kick just outside of the penalty on the left side.
    This could be dangerous.
    Man Utd 0-1 Brentford
    86. An Antony shot is blocked, and that will be the cue for United to make their fifth and final change.
It’s Scott McTominay, who is needed to recreate some of his Scotland heroics.
    Off goes Sofyan Amrabat.
    Man Utd 0-1 Brentford
    84. Another fine save from Onana!
From the corner, Norgaard’s glancing header looks destined for the net until the Cameroonian keeper tips over.
Man Utd 0-1 Brentford – Brentford substitution
    83. The Bees throw on another substitute in Saman Ghoddos for the final minutes in place of goalscorer Mathias Jensen.
    Man Utd 0-1 Brentford
    82. Maupay nearly seals victory for the visitors!
The Everton loanee wins the ball back upfield, and hits an instinctive effort from 30 yards out.
It’s dipping and dipping and dipping, and is close to finding the net until Onana acrobatically tips over.

    Man Utd 0-1 Brentford

    80. Inside the final ten minutes.
As it stands, United are heading for a fourth home defeat in three weeks.
    Surely not.
    Man Utd 0-1 Brentford
    78. The last ten minutes have been played almost solely in Brentford’s defensive third, and they’re seeing all of the ball too.
The question is can they find a way through their opponent’s impressive defensive rearguard?
    Man Utd 0-1 Brentford
    76. United are peppering the Brentford goal now, but just cannot find the target.
First, Garnacho whistled one over from the left side of the box before a Fernandes curler was a yard wide of finding the top corner.
    Man Utd 0-1 Brentford
    74. For the first time today, Brentford find themselves caught out at the back.
Having thrown too many men forward, the visitors are outnumbered as Garnacho spearheads a counter.
The Argentine sends a pass through to Hojlund with the outside of his boot, but covering the danger again is that man Pinnock.
Stepping in front of the United striker, the centre-back then wins a soft free-kick, drawing huge cheers from the away fans.
Man Utd 0-1 Brentford – Man Utd substitution
    72. It’s a last throw of the dice for United with the introduction of another forward in Anthony Martial.
The Frenchman replaces defender Victor Lindelof, who has had a difficult afternoon.
    Man Utd 0-1 Brentford
    70. Lovely play from Bruno Fernandes!
The Manchester United captain flicks the ball beyond his marker in the blink of an eye, and unleashes a thumping 25-yarder.
Strakosha is equal to it, however, pushing the fierce drive away to his right.
Man Utd 0-1 Brentford – Brentford double substitution
    69. Thomas Frank obviously agreed that Yanelt’s tackle was a tired one because the Bees boss is going to replace the midfielder.
The change is one of two substitutions that see Neal Maupay and Frank Omyeka come on for Yanelt and Yoane Wissa.
Man Utd 0-1 Brentford – Yanelt yellow card
    67. A fourth Brentford player goes into Andy Madley’s book.
Vitaly Yanelt is the latest booked for a tired-looking challenge on Sofyan Amrabat.
Man Utd 0-1 Brentford – Collins yellow card
    65. United are committing more and more men forward…
…but all that means at the moment is Brentford are looking more of a threat on the break.
Meanwhile, Collins is cautioned for flattening Antony off the ball,
    Man Utd 0-1 Brentford
    63. Decent effort from Hojlund!
The striker receives play with his back to goal, holds up well, turns and slams a shot into the side netting.
Man Utd 0-1 Brentford – Man Utd double substitution
    62. And sure enough, Marcus Rashford is replaced.
The United forward is one of two players to be replaced along with Mason Mount.
On come Antony and Alejandro Garnarcho.
    Man Utd 0-1 Brentford
    60. Manchester United’s best chance of getting something from this game appears to lie with Marcus Rashford, who is beginning to see more of the ball. More

Luton 0 Tottenham 1: Spurs overcome Bissouma’s idiotic red as Van de Ven’s goal puts them top of the Premier League

MICKY VAN DE VEN’S first Premier League goal put 10-man Tottenham top of the league.A week after a last-gasp winner enabled Spurs to see off the nine players of Liverpool, Ange Postecoglou’s team survived the dismissal of Yves Bissouma and a host of Luton chances..

The Mali midfielder was sent off in first-half stoppage time for diving, his second yellow card in barely 10 minutes.
Tottenham were a man down, but not out, and took the lead early in the second half after a quick corner allowed James Maddison to tee up Van De Ven.
Luton did everything but score. Elijah Adebayo should have done even before Tottenham’s opener and the home side had a number of opportunities to equalise.
But Tottenham held firm and extended their unbeaten start to the season to eight games, moving into first place ahead of Sunday’s matches involving their top-of-the-table rivals.
The visitors ended the first half a man down, but should have been at least a goal up.
Richarlison missed two good chances in the opening four minutes, and Pedro Porro also fired wide in the seventh.
Luton gradually gained a foothold in the game but had Thomas Kaminski to thank for keeping it at 0-0 with a fine save from Dejan Kulusevski.
The home fans had grown frustrated with referee John Brooks for giving free kicks to Spurs for almost any physical challenge.

But in the fourth minute of first-half stoppage time, they were delighted.
Bissouma, booked a few minutes earlier for a cynical foul on Chiedozie Ogbene, took a dive but was not touched by Marvelous Nakamba.
Brooks had no choice but to show a second yellow card, and then a red.
Within two minutes of the restart, Luton should have taken the lead. But Adebayo somehow failed to convert Ogbene’s cross.
Punishment soon arrived. Kulusevski quickly took the third in a series of Spurs corners and found Maddison, who beat his man and jabbed the ball back for Van De Ven to force it home.
Luton dominated the rest of the game but could not score, with Alfie Doughty and substitute Cauley Woodrow missing the best of the chances.
Spurs goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario made a couple of saves but nothing spectacular, as his team ground out a win that maintains their momentum.

The points are shared at the end of a thrilling Friday night WSL clash.
Man Utd remain at the top of the table for now, but Marc Skinner will be disappointed that his side let three points slip.
Meanwhile, it was an encouraging performance from Arsenal following last week’s defeat, but two mistakes cost them a potential win in the end.
    Thanks for reading, and goodnight!
    Marc Skinner reacts
Speaking to Sky Sports, the Man Utd manager said: “The late equaliser does feel like a kick in the teeth because you have the three points won and then it becomes just one.
“But I cannot be prouder of the players, they have only had eight days to work together as a collective.
“Even Mal [Melvine Malard] when she comes on doesn’t really know how we move, how we approach certain situations, but she was fantastic. I thought the players gave everything, and I think that shows.
“You’re not always going to win those sorts of games, they got the late goal today, we got one last week.
“It was a top level game, something fans want to keep watching, and we always want to win. But I am proud of what the players have done in such a short space of time.”

    Jonas Eidevall reacts
Speaking to Sky Sports at full time, the Arsenal boss said: “I think it’s really important to talk about two things. One is that we start with one XI, but we finish with another XI.
“That is one of the things that I am most pleased with today. We finished the game much stronger than Manchester United did.
“One change we have did this year is instead of presenting the starting XI first, we present the bench first. Because they are so important.
“This is the tools we have to change things during the game and you guys are going to be really important for it. All players coming on today really showed that.”

Speaking to Sky Sports, the Arsenal captain said: “It was so important for us to get the point especially after our result last weekend.
“It was a great performance, we showed a lot of character today and Cloe’s [Lacasse] goal rounded it off at the end. We are so happy for her, but also happy we got the point today.
“It is always tough to come here and get a result, in the past we have always found it difficult to get points here. So it is a positive result for us.
“We were disappointed in our performance last week, as a team and individuals, and we knew we needed to turn that around. As a club and a team we expect much better from ourselves. We did that all week in training and I think we showed that in our performance today.”
