An excellent evening, a fantastic few days, Arsenal will now be targeting the most wonderful of weeks.
After a hard-fought 1-0 success at Everton on Sunday, the Gunners crushed PSV Eindhoven 4-0 tonight on their return to the Champions League after six seasons away.
It’s the perfect platform from which to leap into the weekend’s North London derby against rivals Tottenham, and we’ll be back here on Sunday lunchtime to bring you all the action from the Emirates.
Until then, thanks for joining us and goodnight.
Gunners performance ticks Arteta’s boxes
Arsenal’s attackers have received all the plaudits after a four-midable showing in the Champions League, but manager Mikel Arteta was quick to praise his defence too following tonight’s 4-0 win.
We enjoyed it. From the first minute, we went for it. Today we were really good in both boxes and, in the Champions League, when you are good in both boxes then you have a chance.Mikel ArtetaTNT Sports
Arsenal begin with a bang
It may have been Arsenal’s first appearance in the Champions League for six years, but it’s a whole decade since the Gunners began their group stage campaign with a victory.
Back in 2013-14, the Londoners saw off Marseille 2-1 at the Stade Velodrome on matchday one thanks to goals from Theo Walcott and Aaron Ramsey.
Meanwhile, tonight was Arsenal’s biggest opening match victory in the Champions League since 2010-11 when they walloped Braga 6-0.

What better way to warm up for Sunday’s North London derby.
Arsenal 4-0 PSV

On the bench, Peter Bosz looks thoroughly fed up. He’ll be put out of his misery any second soon.

As commentator Paul Dempsey points out: “It’s not because of the quality of the football, it’s because nobody will want to queue for the tube in this rain.”
Arsenal 4-0 PSV

That is until Jorginho arrives to mop up with a calming authority.

The substitute played responsibility on to Odegaard, who dropped his shoulder to move beyond Joey Veerman before driving left-footed into the bottom corner of Walter Benitez’s net from 25 yards.
Brilliant!
What a strike!
