Tavares, 22, swapped Arsenal for Marseille in a season-long loan deal last summer.
And the left-back has been enjoying his spell in France with five goals in 22 games.
But Tavares will now spend some time in the stands after receiving a late red card in last night’s win over Montpellier.
Tavares, who scored his side’s opener in the 47th minute, made a wild challenge on an opponent with just three minutes of the game remaining.

It sparked a mass brawl on the field, with Tavares reacting angrily to Montpellier players getting in his face.
The referee was forced to step in and cool things down between the players before showing Tavares a yellow card.
But VAR had been doing checks in the background and quickly informed the ref that Tavares’ challenge, which was more of a KICK, was worthy of a red card.
The official quickly rescinded the original booking before sending Tavares for an early shower.

And the Portuguese defender was jeered off the pitch by Montpellier fans as he exited.
But Tavares had one last trick up his sleeve as he trolled home supporters by flashing the scoreline with his hands.
Tavares could now be banned for up to three games if his foul was deemed violent.
That would see him miss games against Troyes, Lorient and Monaco.
And with Marseille third in Ligue 1 and looking to secure Champions League football, Tavares’ absence will come as a huge blow to boss Igor Tudor. More

And the 30-year-old certainly made his presence felt during the clash with Strasbourg.
Neymar firstly had supporters in bits as he produced a brilliant elastico nutmeg that left Adrien Thomasson completely bamboozled.
One fan commented: “Every match Neymar plays adds a new enemy to the group!”
Another tweeted: “The king of samba back with another classic for us. Elastico nutmeg against Strasbourg. Neymar is a joke.”

While a fellow fan wrote: “The elastico nutmeg will end up in the history book of Neymar comps.”
And another tweeted: “Neymar doing what he does the best. What a Nutmeg. Cheeky.”
Neymar’s night suffered a miserable ending though when he was giving his marching orders on 63 minutes.
He was first booked just past the hour-mark before he saw red for diving moments later.

With the scores level at 1-1 after Marquinhos had scored at both ends, Neymar tried to con referee Clement Turpin.
But his attempt at trying to win a penalty went horribly wrong as he was penalised.
Neymar got to the ball before the defender on the right side of the box before falling to the ground without major contact – leading to him being awarded a second yellow card for simulation.
He had been looking to make a positive return to club football following his disappointing World Cup that was overshadowed by an ankle injury.
But instead the forward was sent off for the FIFTH time in his PSG career.
Fortunately for Neymar, his blushes were spared by Kylian Mbappe, who secured PSG’s sixth Ligue 1 victory on the bounce with a last-gasp penalty.
The Brazilian will now miss the New Year’s Day trip to Lens, who PSG lead by eight points at the top. More

KYLIAN MBAPPE is back in training with Paris Saint-Germain – just THREE DAYS after his World Cup final heartbreak. The French mega star became only the second player ever to hit a hat-trick in the final of football’s biggest tournament on Sunday, following in the footsteps of England’s Sir Geoff Hurst.

But unlike Sir Geoff in 1966, poor Mbappe ended up on the losing side as Les Bleus were defeated on penalties to Lionel Messi’s Argentina, after the scores were tied at 3-3 following extra-time.
Mbappe’s treble saw him beat club team-mate Messi to the tournament’s Golden Boot – not that that was much consolation after losing the greatest final of all time.
It had been expected that Mbappe would take ten days of holiday following his World Cup exertions.
But the forward, who turned 24 on Tuesday, seems to have decided the best way to get over his agony is to get straight back to work.

He turned up at PSG’s Camp des Loges training ground on Wednesday morning ready to return to practice.
Asked how he was feeling as he entered the complex, the former Monaco man replied: “Better, better, better.”

PSG’s social media channels announced that Mbappe is expected to train with his team-mates on Tuesday.
The Ligue 1 leaders, who are unbeaten this season and have won all but four of their games in all competitions, host Strasbourg in the league on December 28.

But PSG’s Qatari owners are eyeing an upgrade.
They are keen on a £430million renovation of the Parc des Princes, according to CBS, but the stadium is owned by the City Council of Paris.
PSG want to make it a 60,000 seater arena, but will not do so unless they own the stadium.
The Council are claimed to be quoting PSG four times above market value to become owners of the stadium.

PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi declared to Bloomberg: “Paris deserves a better stadium.”
Al-Khelaifi claimed the Council of Paris are pushing the club to move, with the Stade de France thought to be a potential option.
That stadium is owned by the French government, who are believed to be looking at selling the arena.
There are also claimed to be two sites where a new stadium could be built.

Al-Khelaifi added: “My first option is we don’t move. But the city of Paris is pushing us to move.”
He admitted: “We’ve spent 70 million euros (£60m) upgrading the Parc des Princes but it’s not our stadium.”
The Stade de France is currently used by the French national football and rugby teams.
Part of the reason for a stadium expansion or move is to protect PSG from Uefa’s financial fair play rules.
Les Parisiens were fined earlier this year for overspending.
A stadium with a capacity higher than 48,000 would allow the club to bring in more revenue. More

The Brazilian then headed to the dressing room… followed by Lionel Messi
They initially sat in the dugout with their team-mates, before deciding they’d rather head in for an early shower.
Rather than just get up and go, however, Neymar first sought the approval of Galtier.
The Brazilian gestured towards his manager, only leaving after getting the thumbs up.
He was joined by close pal Messi – with the duo both headed to the World Cup this week with Brazil and Argentina respectively.

Mauricio Pochettino takes swipe at old club PSG and claims they signed ‘too many players that needed to be No1’

MAURICIO POCHETTINO has taken a swipe at his old club Paris Saint-Germain, claiming they signed too many big names who needed to be No1.The ex-Tottenham boss, 50, was tasked with managing Lionel Messi, Neymar and Kylian Mbappe, as well as other top stars.

Pochettino managed to reclaim Ligue 1 but PSG underperformed in Europe, costing him his job in the summer.
And the Argentine believes that one of the reasons for his early dismissal was because the club had too many players who needed to be “number one”.
Speaking to Relevo, Pochettino opened up on how having too many big names can cause “confusion”.
He said: “You need to constantly adapt because there was too much greatness.

“For Barca to have Messi or for Madrid to have Cristiano is a blessing.
“But when you bring in too many players who all need their spot and be number one, there can be confusion.”
Poch continued: “In the end, when you play, there are 11 players with one ball.
“There was a penalty, and who takes it? It is not even a decision of the coach.”

There had been rumours of a rift between PSG’s top three players in Messi, Mbappe and Neymar.
Squabbles have taken place over who should be taking penalties.
Neymar has been publicly asked on his relationship with Mbappe and refused to comment.
Pochettino says that the same challenges he faced still exist at the club.
He said: “There is no manual and no one can explain it, although now the experience of when we were there is here.”
A good example as to what Poch is talking about, but away from PSG’s big three stars, is the goalkeeper situation.
Keylor Navas, a world class keeper in his own right, was relegated to the substitutes bench following the free transfer arrival of Gianluigi Donnarumma.
Poch added: “[PSG have Keylor] Navas and [Gianluigi] Donnarumma, two number ones in the same position.”
PSG could have a good chance to reset should Mbappe choose to leave in the next transfer window or two.
The relationship between the player and the club has reportedly soured despite the 2018 World Cup-winning Frenchman signing one of the biggest contracts in football history to snub Real Madrid.

Messi’s contract at the Parc des Princes expires in the summer, and the Argentine could return to Barca, or join Inter Miami in the MLS.
That would leave just Neymar in the French capital and the club will be on the search for some new attacking partners. More
