Arsenal urged to seal James Maddison transfer as Gunners legend Michael Thomas hails ‘quality’ Leicester star

But Arsenal should look to land Maddison as soon as possible in order to deal with other issues in their squad.
Maddison, 24, has been at Leicester fro three seasons after a £20million move from Norwich in 2018.
He has scored 27 goals in 118 games for Brendan Rodgers’ side.
And it’s believed Maddison is attracting interest from the Gunners as they hunt a replacement for Martin Odegaard, with the Norwegian returning to Real Madrid following a six-month loan spell.
Highbury icon Thomas feels Maddison would be a step up for his old club.
And he has told Arteta to wrap up a transfer quickly in order to give Maddison a full pre-season while also securing other targets.
Thomas told CaughtOffside: “I like Maddison and I am definitely for Arsenal pushing this move through.
“We need to act fast, and also deal with the other issues in the squad at the same time.

“Hopefully we can then get the players in for a full pre-season where possible, ready for the first game.
“Maddison has the quality to play as a 10 or 8, which would be beneficial as I think Arteta’s preferred formation is with two 8’s.
“Injuries have hampered his England career thus far, so hopefully he can have a season injury-free and prove how much quality he’s got.”
Arsenal are certainly set for a busy summer in the market, with French misfits Matteo Guendouzi and William Saliba both set to join Marseille.
Striker Alexandre Lacazette could also be heading out of the Emirates.
But there are sure to be plenty of incomings too, with Benfica defender Nuno Tavares jetting in to complete a £7million move this week.

Brendan Rodgers has been chasing Bertrand for some time and finally looks set to land his man after the defender said yes in principle.
He will undergo a medical with the Foxes today before penning a two-year contract at the King Power with the option of an extra 12 months.
The deal is likely to be confirmed and announced in the coming days.
Arsenal were also interested in Bertrand but have now look set to sign Benfica left-back Nuno Tavares.
Bertrand can fill the void left by veteran Christian Fuchs, who left the club this summer, being able to fill in at left-back, the left side of a back three and wing-back.
Leicester academy-graduate Luke Thomas, 20, is the rising star and seen as the long-term successor for Ben Chilwell.
Belgium international Timothy Castagne played at left-back at times during the 2020-21 season but prefers to play on the right.
And versatile James Justin, who excelled across the defence including at left-back last term, remains out for the rest of the year following his ACL injury.

Bertrand joined Chelsea’s academy from Gillingham in 2005 – where he worked with Foxes chief Rodgers – before progressing into the first-team but saw his opportunities limited by Ashley Cole.
He went out on nine separate loan spells but was part of Roberto Di Matteo’s side that were crowned European champions in 2012.
Incredibly, Bertrand became the first player in the Champions League era to make his competition debut in the final as he started on the left wing against Bayern Munich.
The defender will be unveiled as Leicester’s second signing of the summer.
Striker Patson Daka arrived from Red Bull Salzburg in a £23million move on Wednesday.
The Zambian star, 22, smashed in 61 goals in his last 87 appearances for the Austrian champs and penned a five-year-deal in the East Midlands.

The young Zambian international fits Rodgers’ criteria for new signings as a proven winner, after helping RB Salzburg win four successive league titles and a total of seven trophies in four seasons.
The striker has scored 68 times in 125 appearances for RB Salzburg in all competitions.

LEICESTER centre-back Wesley Fofana has emerged as a target for Real Madrid to replace Raphael Varane should Manchester United sign the Frenchman. The 20-year-old starred in his debut season in England after joining the Foxes in a £36.5million deal from Saint-Etienne last year.

Fofana featured 38 times under Brendan Rodgers as he helped Leicester finish fifth in the Premier League while also proving instrumental in their FA Cup-winning run.
And according to Fichajes, he could be on his way out of the King Power Stadium with Carlo Ancelotti said to be eyeing a swoop for the youngster.
However they state the potential move depends on whether Los Blancos sell Varane, with the World Cup winner heavily linked with a switch to Old Trafford.
It has been claimed that the four-time Champions League winner, 28, is keen on linking up with the Red Devils.
Varane has just one year left on his contract in Spain and it remains to be seen whether he will follow Sergio Ramos out the door this summer.
The Spanish legend, 35, decided to quit Real after 16 years of service after refusing to sign a one-year deal.
Should Real press ahead with a move for Fofana, Leicester will likely command a huge fee considering the player is contracted until 2025.
But Leicester would be open to selling the defender should Fofana express an interest to leave.

Smith, 16, made his debut late last season, having appeared aged 15 in a friendly in August 2020.
He has a clause that means the club must accept a figure of about £500,000 and now it is down to him to decide if he wants to go.
Dundee United had agreed to sell Smith’s team-mate Lewis Neilson to the Foxes — but the 18-year-old said no.
It follows the Foxes snapping up 16-year-old Liverpool midfielder Jack Lewis.
The youngster impressed on trial at Leicester’s academy towards the end of last season.
It is thought Lewis has agreed a free transfer and a two-year scholarship contract from the new season.
And he will have the option to convert the deal into a professional one when he turns 17.
Leicester are also keen to sign Manchester United’s Wales youth international Chris Popov after the left-winger turned down an offer from the Red Devils.

Watch Leicester fans celebrate in pub as VAR comes to rescue and disallows Ben Chilwell’s dramatic late equaliser

LEICESTER fans partied into the night after Chelsea’s equaliser, through their former hero Ben Chilwell, was disallowed for offside by VAR in the FA Cup Final. The Foxes beat the Blues 1-0 at Wembley on Saturday, marking their first ever FA Cup trophy, thanks to Youri Tielemans’ second-half screamer.

The west Londoners thought they had equalised after 89 minutes when old King Power favourite Chilwell reached in a delicious long ball by Thiago Silva and saw the ball deflecting between Caglar Soyuncu as well as Wes Morgan.
Chilwell passionately celebrated the goal against his former team and didn’t hold back before the returning crowd at Wembley.
However, VAR had a look and noticed that the left-back was marginally offside and overruled the initial call.
A number of Leicester fans were filmed celebrating the decision with all their heart at a pub as some of them even climbed up the tables.
These scenes made for an unusual situation as not many fans have celebrated a non-goal like this before.

But that is the impact VAR has had in English football ever since its introduction two years ago.
Many Leicester fans also took to Twitter after the whistle to celebrate their historic achievement.
Some decided to poke fun at Chilwell, who got booed by his former supporters at Wembley.
One fan wrote: “Match ticket £57, train ticket £35, Ben Chilwell knee sliding and punching his badge for it to be ruled out for offside, priceless.”
Another tweeted: “Ben Chilwell has to stand there watching the players he thought he was better than get a FA Cup winners medal hahaha.”
While a Chelsea fan wrote: “For me the high of seeing Ben Chilwell get the equaliser and then seeing it chalked off a minute later because his big toe is slightly ahead is shattering.
“Always hated VAR and this is beyond a joke.”

Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel didn’t seem to be questioning VAR’s decision to overrule Chilwell’s goal.
But Tuchel believed the help of technology should have been used after Tielemans’ stunner as it appeared like the ball hit Ayoze Perez’s hand in the build-up.
The Chelsea manager said: “I’m not an expert in handball any more, I don’t know when it’s handball or not.
“I don’t know any more when they need to punish it or it’s OK to play with the hand.
“In the second half we controlled the match even higher, and we conceded a goal out of nothing, a fantastic goal, but a lucky goal of course.
“And then we have a big chance with Mason [Mount], a fantastic save from [Kasper] Schmeichel, and offside goal, that was very, very close.”
