      However when the transfer window reopens Toon will reportedly try to take advantage of Leicester’s perilous financial position by landing Maddison, report talkSPORT.
      Leicester reported losses of £92m last year and could be forced to sell prized asset Maddison.
      Newcastle have reportedly made the playmaker their No1 transfer target with sporting director Dan Ashworth still very keen to sign him.

      Tottenham have also been linked with a move for Maddison, who has scored nine Premier League goals this season.
      Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers has admitted Maddison could leave and he revealed he will not stand in his way.
      Rodgers said: “It’s a conversation we’ve been having with James’ representatives for a while so there’s no change in that.
      “For me, it’s about making sure that, despite whatever the situation is, that James is playing at the best level he can be.

      But they potentially had a helping hand by a referee, one of Leicester’s Prem-winning defenders has claimed.
      Simpson, 36, played 30 times in the Prem for the Foxes in their historic season.
      The Englishman says then Prem referee, Clattenburg, refused to send a Leicester player off because he wanted them to win the league.
      Speaking on Under The Cosh, Simpson said: “I remember Clattenburg mate. Wow.

      Right-back Simpson continued: “I had to pretend I didn’t hear it. I was laughing my bollocks off inside and I thought, ‘Yeah, we’re doing this.’
      “I think it was Drinky [Danny Drinkwater] actually.
      “It was his second yellow or something and he could’ve easily sent him off but he didn’t.”
      Clattenburg refereed four Foxes games that season.
      On October 2, 2015, Leicester beat Norwich 2-1 away from home.
      Clattenburg also took charge of the December 14 clash with Chelsea, which saw Leicester win 2-1.
      The ref was back in charge of the Foxes in March 2016 when Leicester played out a 2-2 draw with West Brom.
      Clattenburg’s final game refereeing Leicester came in the 4-0 win over Swansea in April. More

      Newcastle boss Eddie Howe reportedly made the midfielder his priority transfer target last month following two failed attempts to sign him on a permanent deal.
      And he is expected to make another bid to sign him before the 2023-24 Premier League season kicks off.
      Despite the growing interest from Newcastle, Leicester chiefs have been eager to keep Maddison in the East Midlands by offering him a new contract.
      However, Rodgers has admitted that he does not want to beg the midfielder to stay.

      When asked about Maddison’s future during his press conference ahead of Sunday’s league clash with Manchester United, the Foxes boss said: “It’s a conversation we’ve been having with James’ representatives for a while so there’s no change in that.
      “For me, it’s about making sure that, despite whatever the situation is, that James is playing at the best level he can be.
      “Thankfully as a player he’s got experience now, he’s very focused on purely doing his best for us and staying available and fit.
      “He’s a top player in the league and he’s shown that in his time here, gradually from when he’s come in to the position he’s in now, you can see that development take place.

      CBS journalist Ben Jacobs has also reported that Tielemans will still be on Arteta’s shortlist once the window re-opens.
      He said: “Come the summer, if Tielemans is available on a free transfer, there’ll be a variety of clubs looking at him.
      “Arsenal will still be there for sure and we know that Tielemans very much wanted that move a year ago and was hopeful that something might come off throughout the summer, but Arsenal moved in a different direction.”
      Tielemans arrived at Leicester on loan from Monaco in January 2019 and signed permanently six months later in a £32m move.

      Leicester chairman wipes £194m club debt in huge statement of intent over ‘long-term stability’

      LEICESTER CITY’S chairman has wiped out a whopping £194million club debt in a major statement of intent.The Foxes had borrowed from their parent company, King Power International, over the last four years.

      That money had been used to help pay for the club’s state-of-the-art new £100m training ground as well as investment into players and the women’s team amid the Covid-19 struggles.
      Plans have also been submitted to expand City’s stadium and build a development featuring a hotel and indoor arena on the complex.
      But the hugely popular owner and chairman Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha – son of the late Khun Vichai – has capitalised the loan and interest owed to the Thai family’s King Power business into equity, effectively relieving the repayments into shares.
      A statement said the conversion into equity will help Leicester’s balance sheet and reduce its interest costs as well as demonstrating King Power International’s commitment to supporting the club’s long-term sustainability.

      In reality, this move formally acknowledges the club would never have been in a position to repay the debt anyway.
      The Foxes do, though, still have outstanding payments owed elsewhere, with their most recent accounts showing a total of £267m of debt.
      Srivaddhanaprabha – known as Khun Top – said: “Maintaining long-term stability is vital for sustainable growth and a fundamental principle that has always guided our investments in the club’s future.
      “We want to make sure we continue on that path from the strongest, most secure financial footing.

      The debt-to-equity conversion was filed to Companies House on New Year’s Eve.
      The Srivaddhanaprabhas conducted a similar move in 2013 to clear £103m of debt three years after taking over Leicester – again helping to ensure all existing shareholder investment in the club would not be carried forward as debt.
      Khun Top took on the role as chairman when his father Khun Vichai tragically died in the helicopter crash at the King Power Stadium in October 2018.
      Leicester brought in Victor Kristiansen, Tete and Harry Souttar during the January transfer window to bolster Brendan Rodgers’ squad.
      Striker Nathan Opoku also signed for the club and was immediately loaned to sister-club OH Leuven in Belgium, also owned by King Power. More

      And according to CBS journalist Ben Jacobs, United could be set to snap him up before Tuesday’s deadline or when his existing contract expires.
      Speaking to The Football Terrace, via The Boot Room, Jacobs said: “I think we shouldn’t only be referring to a late Manchester United movement in terms of strikers.

      “From what I hear it’s more creative-minded players that can either get box to box from attacking midfield, or in central areas, or are a little more versatile across the front areas.
      “Therefore keep an eye on a player like Youri Tielemans who will be available on a free transfer in the summer.
      “The expectation is that Leicester are going to try and hang on to Tielemans, they are not going to accept any financial offers now, because it’s more valuable to the football club to lose him on a free but have Tielemans help keep Leicester up.”
      Explaining that Arsenal and Newcastle are also still interested in the midfielder, he then adds: “We know Arsenal could be in the mix for a midfielder, especially with [Mohamed Elneny] injured and I’m still waiting to see if a Manchester United, less likely a Newcastle, possibly Arsenal choose to speed up the strategy on Tielemans and due to the need to put something down.

      The Foxes will be hoping he can help turn the side’s current slump around.

      However, Maddison stayed put at Leicester and has been in red-hot form this season with seven goals and four assists earning him a place in Gareth Southgate’s England World Cup squad.
      But the 26-year-old has not played since November 12 due to problems with his knee and has seen a specialist to get on the pitch for his struggling Foxes side.
      However, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano says the Toon are preparing to go back in for Maddison this summer when he moves into the final 12 months of his King Power contract.
      Asked about Newcastle’s links with Maddison and Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, Romano told wettfreunde: “I think that Milinkovic-Savic will stay in Lazio until the end of the season.
