But the former QPR and Northampton boss has endured a nightmare start to the new campaign with just one point from Burton’s seven games.
That came in a 4-4 draw with Accrington Stanley in August.
They lost 2-1 away at Oxford on Saturday, taking their tally to a whopping 20 goals conceded already.
Therefore the Brewers sit bottom of League One with a goal difference of -12.

And the East Midlands side are already six points from safety.
Burton lost in the first round of the Carabao Cup to Rochdale but did get their only win of the campaign in a 4-2 victory over Leicester’s Under-21s in the EFL Trophy.
Now the 23-cap Dutch international Hasselbaink has walked away before he is sacked.
He said: “I have taken the club as far as I can with the limited resources available and it is time for someone else to come in and inject some new energy.

“I would like to thank the fans, and everyone associated with the club, including the Chairman, and to wish them all the best in the future.”
Chairman Ben Robinson said: “I have enjoyed working with Jimmy who is an inspirational coach and I understand and respect his decision to move on.

The news comes just hours after ex-Leeds and Middlesbrough star Hasselbaink was a pundit on Super Sunday for the Premier League action at Brighton and Manchester United.
During his analysis, he warned Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta that he is not convinced by Gabriel Jesus as an out-and-out striker – despite the £45million Brazilian’s superb start for the Gunners.
Hasselbaink, who scored 87 goals in 177 Chelsea appearances, said: “He’s come in [and scored] three goals, made chances, made others around him play better.
“I’m still not convinced he will be 20 goals a season because if he was that then why did he not do that at Man City in a better team?
“I think he had enough opportunities [at Man City]. He is not somebody that scores goals out and out and out.

“He’s somebody that loves scoring goals and likes to link up, he’s been brilliant at it, very strong, holding the ball up.
“He’s got three goals in five matches – which is brilliant – but you expect him to score more goals. He’s a great signing.” More

Moore’s plans were scuppered in the first-half, however, when defender Reece James was sent off after just 34 minutes.
The former West Brom boss opted to reshuffle his pack before half-time, hauling Byers off on 40 minutes in order to bring an extra defender on in the shape of Dominic Iorfa.
Byers, 26, was incandescent with rage as he trudged off the pitch, refusing to even acknowledge his replacement Iorfa.
As Smith put his hand out to the midfielder, Byers slapped it away in frustration and carried on marching towards the bench.

Smith, 47, was unimpressed with the gesture and followed the substituted player to confront him.
Byers shoved him away once, before doing so again as he approached his seat.
The duo were then involved in a heated exchange of words before substitute keeper Cameron Dawson dragged Byers away to his seat.
With his pride wounded, the former Swansea ace yanked his boots off in frustration and threw them to the ground.

Moore didn’t flinch during the unsavoury incident, keeping his eyes focused on the pitch.
Asked about what happened after his side’s 2-0 defeat, the Wednesday boss said: “I’ll find out now. and when I see you on Friday we’ll have a little chat.”
He then added: “After the sending off I was just thinking in my head about getting in at half time.
“Firstly you don’t think anything like that is going to happen – but I’ll ask the questions to both men, and see what was said.
“I would almost 100 per cent put it down to frustration, heat of the moment and the pulsating atmosphere. If it’s anymore than that I’d be really surprised.
“I’m not really alarmed by it or anything, but I will look into it, and when we have the press conference on Friday I’ll happily speak about what went on.”

The result saw Wednesday’s unbeaten start to the season come to a crashing halt.

Brighton interested in £2m Fleetwood wonderkid Paddy Lane before transfer window ends after winning player of year award

BRIGHTON are keen on Fleetwood wonderkid Paddy Lane. The Cods are braced for bids for winger Lane, 21, who won the EFL League One Young Player of the Season award last term.

That gong ended a magical first season in professional football, having signed from non-league side Hyde United in 2021.
Lane’s eye-catching performances, which included scoring five goals and grabbing eight assists in the league, also led to his first three caps for Northern Ireland.
He made his international debut in March against Hungary, and then started both Nations League fixtures against Greece and Cyprus in June.
Several clubs, including Premier League side Albion, are believed to be very interested in the Halifax-born starlet.

Fleetwood tied Lane down to a new contract in December until 2024 and value the player at around £2million.
Should a move to the top flight arise, it would be a fairytale story for Lane, who won the club’s player of the year award last season, given his situation just 18 months ago.
Back then he was stacking shelves in his local supermarket on a part-time basis to boost his income while playing in the seventh tier with Hyde.
Discussing his turnaround, Lane said in an interview this summer: “I don’t think I’ll ever really process what happened last year.

‘I don’t trust him’ – Joey Barton lays into own Bristol Rovers player Trevor Clarke and regrets giving him new deal

JOEY BARTON has launched an astonishing attack against his own player Trevor Clarke and says he does not trust him. The outspoken Bristol Rovers boss has not held back in criticising the full-back’s abilities having only re-signed him this summer.

Trevor Clarke’s season with the club last year was blighted by injuriesCredit: Rex
Clarke had an injury hit first season at the Memorial Stadium after signing on a one-year deal.
He has since been given a new deal after Rovers’ dramatic promotion to League One – but boss Barton says he now regrets it.
Following their opening day loss against Forest Green Rovers – where Clarke started due to an injury crisis – Barton told reporters: “For me, he just doesn’t fill me with trust going forward.
“If I’m honest, I don’t trust him. I don’t think he’s the right component for us. We want to pass out, we want to play, and he’s not that type of full-back.
    READ MORE ON FOOTBALL
“Unfortunately, we extended his deal and sometimes you’ve got to be very quick to recognise and I hold my hands up. I’ve made a mistake on that one, I shouldn’t have brought him back in.
“If I had my time again, I wouldn’t have done that, but we have and we’ve got to find a solution, firstly for Trev and, obviously, for the club. I don’t think he’ll have a problem. I think there will be many suitors for him.
“He’s obviously done well in the League of Ireland and he could pop back out there, but that will be somebody else’s problem and he won’t go forward with us.”
Clarke only started the defeat against Forest Green due to injuries to Josh Grant and Nick Anderton’s diagnosis with a rare form of bone cancer.

Barton has also singled out Zain Westbrooke and Alex Rodman, with the pair and Clarke reportedly training away from the first team.
The Gas boss added to BBC Sport Bristol: “I just don’t think it’s fair to carry them on down the track with us when they are not going to be part of our future.
“And that allows us to bring six young boys across today from the academy who are raw, who are young, but are full of potential.
“I’d much prefer to give those guys the reps then keep turning to people who, for no fault of their own – they’re all good lads – but they just don’t have the skilset that I require for us to move forward with them.”
The Bristol Rovers boss saw a reaction after the opening day defeat, as his side ran out 4-0 winners at Jimmy-Floyd Hasselbaink’s Burton. More
