WATFORD are in shock talks with little-known Forest Green Rovers boss Rob Edwards to take over as their next manager, according to reports.Roy Hodgson will leave Vicarage Road at the end of the season as he is retiring after a 46-year coaching career.

And that means the relegated Hornets are on the hunt for yet another new manager.
According to The Athletic, Edwards is the surprise candidate being lined up.
Advanced talks are said to be underway already between the Hertfordshire club and the 39-year-old.
Edwards would become Watford’s ninth permanent manager in five years – with Xisco Munoz, Claudio Ranieri and Hodgson all having spells this season alone.

Dons manager Mark Bowen said this after the game: “I’ve been in this game for 40 years now and I realise that you’ve got to choose your words very carefully. I’m angry and I’m disappointed. I’ve just been to see the referee and he has told me that he can’t even remember if he blew the whistle to restart the game after the free-kick was awarded, which I find quite staggering.
“Our goalkeeper knew it was a free kick and like every goalkeeper he put the ball down and tried to nick a few yards whilst the referee was running away. The referee then blew and said that he had kicked it twice after the free-kick had been given. I then asked the referee ‘Why would a keeper kick the ball twice? There’s only one possible scenario – he didn’t hear the whistle being blown’.
“The common-sense approach would have been to ask the keeper if he had heard the whistle, reset it and then play. But instead, he’s given them a free-kick and they’ve scored from it.”

PADDY LANE was carried off on a stretcher and given a RED CARD following a nasty 50-50 challenge in Fleetwood Town’s clash with Gillingham.Lane was given his marching orders in the 71st minute of the 0-0 draw after recklessly going in for a tackle with Charlie Kelman.

Kelman appeared to be the more hurt of the two, rolling around in agony while Lane lay motionless on the pitch.
After much deliberation and waiting for Kelman to get to his feet, referee James Linnington sent off the 20-year-old.
Linnington waited a few moments before dismissing Lane, who was shown his red before being stretched off the pitch.

SUNDERLAND star Jermain Defoe, 39, is on the verge of retiring with immediate effect.Defoe’s current deal with the Black Cats is due to run until the end of the season, but sources have told SunSport that he will announce his retirement imminently.

Defoe will end his amazing career at Sunderland, whom he rejoined last month and has made seven League One appearances for so far this season.

But the centre-forward spent most of his time at Spurs across three stints, one of which was on loan from Toronto.
